I called and left a message and received a call back within 15 minutes. Jim was able to come out that same day and called me when he was 30 minutes away. I left my office and he was already in front of my house. He put on shoe covers to make sure he did not track any dirt in the house which was a nice touch not many people do. When he got to the washing machine Jim took his time and made sure to go through all the necessary tests to see what the problem was. He started top to bottom and explained everything he was doing along the way. Jim was very professional, polite, knowledgeable and trustworthy. It ended up being the worst possible problem, a bad motor on a washer that just turned 2 years old. Jim said he would have to call around for the part price and would give me the estimate of cost to repair within 30 minutes. Well, he was a man of his word as he called me back- unfortunately the quote to fix this problem was the same price as the actual washer so my wife and I decided we need to go Washing Machine shopping- how fun :( I would recommend giving this company a call without hesitation.
Description of Work: Diagnosed washing machine issue. Spin cycle would not work. Jim went through all the diagnostic tests, ran cycles, and diagnosed the problem (which ended up being a bad motor).

I called for service on 12/24/14, for my refrigerator cooling unit which turning off more frequently than normal and had to be manual restarted by myself when it did work. Because of the holidays, I didn't expect service the next day. The owner said he would be able to send someone out the following week, however. We setup a date of 12/31/14, for the issue to be worked on. Promptly, at 8:45am, the tech (James) arrived and began investigating the problem. After a few minutes, he determined that the issue was a faulty thermostat that would need to be replaced. He said he would see if they had one in stock, otherwise he would probably have to come back the next day. Luckily, a thermostat was found and installed that same day. James suggested that I leave the settings at the recommended levels, instead of trying to set things "colder". Refrigerator has been working like a beauty ever since. Will definitely use this service again, for future projects.

The service was great. In this case the dishwasher was leaking. We had not used it for several months and the seal cracked because it got dried out. Through working over the phone we diagnosed the problem and got the parts ordered. The day of the repair Jim was right on time, fixed the dishwasher quickly and it is good as new. We have known Jim for several years and he has serviced multiple appliances at our house. He is always upfront about the cost and helps us to decide whether to repair or replace the appliance. Anytime I have any issue with an appliance, I will always call Jim. Great, reliable service!

Responded to my call early the next day, set a repair date for 2 days later. Called when he was on the way to advise of his estimated arrival time. Diagnosed the problem, and suggested a solution. Came on the next day as scheduled. He was running late, and gave me a courtesy to call to advise of that. Excellent experience!!

Being a low-end dishwasher that was making a loud noise, James did a much more thorough job than expected diagnosing the problem. The fix unsurprisingly was going to cost very nearly as much as the repair. I appreciated the honesty. Our clothes washer, however, was inspected, disassembled and diagnosed as a bad clutch. James had the part on the truck and made repairs within 30 minutes. His work was precise, thorough, clean and efficient. Overall, a great experience with a high level of professionalism.

He came when he said he would-called 10 minutes before arrival. He thought it was the circuit board that controls the infrared beam that tells the ice maker to turn off when the bins gets full. He left and 24 hours later still no ice. I called and he came back the next day. Turns out it was the ice maker itself that was bad. He replaced and now we have ice. The ice maker was replaced at not additional charge. Oh by the way he loves dogs and the dogs love him. It turned out to be a great experience. How many businesses fix their mistakes at no additional charge and no aggravation. Baltimore needs more people like him.

I called Home Systems on Monday, and they gave me an appointment for Tuesday. They called to let me know before they were coming and asked if it was okay if they came a little early. I appreciate the consideration. The technician was very polite. He covered his shoes and was very very neat as he worked. He was efficient and super professional. He resolved the issue easily and efficiently. He was also helpful and referred me to someone who cleans dryer vents (which I need to have done).

I called on Saturday to schedule an appt to get an estimate on repairing my washing machine. It was making a very loud noise. I was offered an appt on Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning, both with a 4 hour window. I was advised that the tech would call when he was within a half hour from arriving. I chose Monday between 1-5pm. The tech called me at 2:00 and advised he would be there within 30 minutes. He arrived right at 2:30. He promptly evaluated the washing machine and advised me what was wrong. Stated he would check with his suppliers and get back to me within 30 minutes with a firm price on repairing the machine. In less than 30 minutes, he called me back and stated he had located the part and could come back to the house immediately to complete the repairs. He was back within 20 minutes and completed the repairs within an hour. There was a $75 diagnosis fee, which would be applied to the repair fees if the customer opted to make the repairs. The total fee was $280.00, less 10% Angies list coupon, bringing the total repair fee to $252.00 - after applying the $75 diagnosis fee, the remaining fees were $177.00.

HOme Systems Appliance repair replied quickly to my request. They were able to schedule our repair for the upcoming weekend and and the gentleman arrived on time and was very effective in his diagnosis and repair. I appreciated that he provided us with a heads up about a part that was starting to wear out. He suggested that we contact the seller and see if we might be able to get it covered under warranty. We are very satisfied with Home Systems Appliance Repair and will use them again in the future.

I recently bought a house with a front load washer and front load dryer. After about a month the washer stopped draining water so I called Home Systems. James is a one man show but he was punctual, very nice and very clean. The first visit was about $100 at which time he told me that the motor likely needed to be changes and it would total about %$400 if he had to change the motor. He said this is a common problem with front load washers. He also said there was a possibility that he could remove whatever object was locking up the motor but that wasn't likely. He said he would call back once he ordered the motor and got it in which he did promptly. He credited the $100 from the first visit toward the cost of replacement and also gave a discount for using Angie's List. Very nice and I would definitely recommend to a friend.

THE 10% DISCOUNT DOES NOT APPLY TO THE $95.00 SERVICE FEE FOR COMING TO THE HOUSE. this fee goes toward the bill IF you get the repair. If you do not get the repair, you pay $95.00 without the discount. There are two temperature dials inside my refrigerator - one marked 'refrigerator' and the other marked' freezer'. The first thing I noticed was soft ice cream in the freezer. So I turned the freezer dial to '0' waited 10 second and turned it up again. Compressor did not come on. I called on Friday morning, told him my freezer was not working and he gave me an appointment on Monday morning. Monday he arrived on time - turned the REFRIGERATOR dial to '0', waited 10 seconds and turned the dial to up to normal temperature. The compressor came on. He explained that the REFRIGERATOR dial is the thermostat and the freezer dial controls a vent to the freezer. I asked him, WHY didn't he mention this to me on Friday? He said, he could not tell what the problem was until he saw the refrigerator. YET, it was the first thing he did, after he arrived. The previous 3 day storm had knocked out one of the circuit breakers and had effected the refrigerator - even though the refrigerator was not on that circuit. I asked Jim - could this have been the problem? He said possibly, but because the refrigerator was working now, there was no way to tell. I was tired of not having a refrigerator and decided to go with the repair. No one will ever know if the repair was actually needed, = since the suggestion of turning the REFRIGERATOR dial to '0', wait 10 seconds, and turn the refrigerator on to see of the compressor comes on, was NOT made on Friday. Had the refrigerator ran properly on Friday, I would have made an appointment for Tuesday and cancelled it on Monday if the refrigerator was still working. This is my idea of helpful service. the problem is that he would not make money doing this. I am positive this is the reason for the withholding of information until I was on the hook for $95.00. I checked off "yes" I would use him again, because there is no 'Maybe" box. IF there was a 'maybe' box, I would have checked it. My experience with appliance repair people in the past is like the one described above. He is more personable, but no different than any other appliance repair person I've met. UPDATE: This is a supplement to my original review. James read the original review and called me up to talk about it. My issue was - did turning the thermostat dial fix the problem with the refrigerator? or another way to phrase the question is - Does adjusting the thermostat dial, reset the thermostat and fix the problem? I had problems during last week's rain storm with a popped circuit breaker that seemed to effect the refrigerator. And the electricity to the whole house was turned off for a repair, sometime after that storm. I was wondering if either of these events could have triggered the refrigerator compressor somehow and made it stop working temporarily. James explained to me that when electricity is restored, the refrigerator should automatically come on. It does not need a "jump start". When I thought about it, in the past when I have lost power to the house, the refrigerator did start without me having to do anything. I was relieved to discover that I really did need the thermostat - I have no problems paying for a repair that is actually needed. James apologized for the miscommunication between us. Our whole conversation was informative and polite on both sides. We kept talking back and fourth until we understood what each of us was saying. I would definitely use him again because he corrects any misinformation or misunderstandings that may arise.
Description of Work: Installed a thermostat for my Whirlpool refrigerator. Retail - this thermostat costs about $75.00. 15 minutes for initial diagnosis of the problem and 45 minutes to fix. Wholesale Price is unknown. So 1 hour of on-site time costs at least $177.00 (not including travel for 2 visits).

Jim was extremely helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Home Systems Repairs to anyone searching for a washing machine repair. He was up front and honest about pricing. Our washing machine is older and he spent time ensuring that it was completely repaired and when we unfortunately encountered an unrelated issue with our washing machine and determined we would have to purchase a new one, Jim apologized and refunded us. He did not have to do this but did because he has a passion for his field. Thanks Jim.

My fridge freezer started leaking water all over my hardwood floor. After turning the freezer and water line off; the fridge side warmed up, the leaking water continued, and I thought I had a major problem. I contacted 3 service providers from Angie's List and had to leave phone messages. Home Systems was the first to call me back. He was able to come the very same day, and at a time that convenient for me getting off work. He gave me a time window for showing up, but he showed up at the beginning of that window! He immediately knew that my problem was only a clogged drain line, blew it out, and cleaned 10 yrs worth of dust and pet hair from things. He also explained that turning off the freezer also turned off the fridge side. It only took him 15 minutes start to finish. After thinking I had a big repair or new fridge cost to look forward to, and only paying for a service call, I was very happy! I joined Angie's list because after a long marriage I am now having to deal with many homeowner issues by myself. This was a great first experience using the list!

They came out, they did fine. They charged me the price of the service call. I asked him a whole bunch of questions, not only about my washing machine, but also my dishwasher, and he was really happy to go ahead and talk with me about it, and answers questions about my appliances in general that I had. He made the service call worth it, and so I got some free consultation. I felt like I got my money's worth, and it was good, because I was able to use different settings that made my appliances run better.

Very professional! He came out, assessed that the repair to my dryer would cost more than a new dryer and didn't charge me a penny for his time. What can be more professional than that?! At least you know you're going to get an absolutely honest assessment.
