It is with pleasure that I write a review of Arm's Home Improvement (AHI). If there were a scale of 1 to 10, AHI would register as an 11. To describe my experience with AHI, I need to emphasize how AHI became a real life-saver for me. Specifically, I had been working with another reputable contractor for approximately 3 months, without reaching an acceptable contract. Previously, I had been advised by a window installation company that there were some issues with the triangular wood at the apex of my 3 dormers. In that regard, I had recently noticed 2 small watermarks on my bedroom ceiling. However, after a torrential downpour these small water marks had extended to approximately 4' by 6'. I realized that I had to find another contractor who could: identify problems, recommend corrective measures, & be available ASAP. AHI was the answer to all of the aforementioned issues. Allen Metcalf, the owner, immediately responded to my request. Allen is replete with both knowledge & experience, as well as having a highly organized & detail-oriented modus operandi. After meeting with Allen, he developed a contract which delineated all costs, as well as times for completion. I was quite impressed by not only the details of the contract, but also by the alacrity in which the contract proposal was developed, & therefore, ready for implementation. Allen coordinated delivery of materials & subs with the fluidity of a choreographer for a Broadway performance. Allen's staff of Jeff & Dustin were diligent in their efforts, particularly when they were working in freezing temperatures & high winds ON MY ROOF! Jeff was the lead & had a propensity for identifying rot, which was plentiful in my project. Both Jeff & Dustin were dedicated & perfectionists in their work ethics. This was indeed, impressive! Recommendations were made to replace ducts & add insulation in my attic since time had taken its toll on the original materials. Allen expeditiously developed a supplemental contract to address these issues, for which I concurred. As a result, I now enjoy new air ducts & flame-retardant insulation. In summation, AHI did not do a good job & they did not do an ,excellent job: they did an outstanding job!

Excellent work, excellent craftsmanship and very thorough, they cleaned up after themselves everyday, they were polite and when they signed a contract, they specified what the homeowner would do or responsible for and what they will be responsible for too. they made perfectly clear what things the homeowner would do.

This project was a homeowner and contractor nightmare. Arm's Home Improvement had to remove everything from this level of my townhouse (including all belongings, furniture, carpeting, walls and ceilings). The first part was to get rid of all infestation in this area and elsewhere in the house. Once completed we had a wait period to be sure all infestation had been destroyed/removed from the home. Once completed met with Mr. Metcalf and reviewed the space and how we wanted to renovate this space. Mr. Metcalf and his team were always considerate of scheduling and noise levels for both ourselves and our neighbors. There work was outstanding and thorough. Mr. Metcalf and his team are perfectionists; throughout the project if he found any issues he would discuss and make recommendations on what would be required and alternatives to the issue. They arrived on time each day and every evening before they left they would clean up and store their tools; and meet with us and explain what they would be doing the next day and stayed on schedule. As a note, I also have two dogs and they looked forward each day to greeting Mr. Metcalf and team. My family and laundry rooms are complete and beautiful and fully functional and we are enjoying them. thank you - Pam

Allen and his crew were (as always) very professional. They arrived when expected, took care to lay out drop cloths and cover furniture before starting to work; and cleaned up materials each evening when they were done for the day. They were efficient and got work done within a week, even with changes to how I wanted the fans/lights wired.

Allen was extremely professional. All estimates were very detailed and comprehensive that meant no surprises. The quality of workmanship was exceptional. Allen worked very closely with me in presenting options for varying budgets with his recommendations. He has thorough understanding of all aspects of home building and remodeling. He takes full ownership of the project and takes pride in his work (with passion). Always prompt and timely in his responses. I would summarize why you should go with Allen with the statement: "If you are looking for a professional with knowledge of all aspects of remodeling whose quality of work is impeccable and hate surprises during or after work is done, he is your man".

i have known them for 40 years. they are a very good knows what they are doing. the owner is a perfectionist. also keeps track of everything. Very personable

It was great. They were careful and helpful. Cleaned up everyday. They were respectful of our space.

They did an stellar work, work done was very detailed, they did the work with precision and done exactly to the specification that I wanted, it was a challenging work on the tile patterns but they made it, they were able work and really did a good job, they made sure the job area was clean, clean up afterwards, did really good. And even though I was not on the work area all the time, in the master bedroom, I still have a clean rest of the house, everyday after a days work.

Allen is terrific to work with - very responsive, knows his stuff, kind, punctual, honest. I would absolutely recommend him and will use him again when the need arises. It has been a few years since we had work done, so I don't exactly recall the cost or the dates, but I recall feeling that he had charged us a very reasonable amount for the work he did. Allen is a consummate professional.

Allen’s team is awesome. He is a perfectionist. He can be trusted to tell you the truth about what needs to be done. The outside of the cabin needed wood replacement, painting, new gutters, screening in a porch and replacing/adding steps. Inside needed new flooring and electrical. And he will be back in the future for more. He previously has done at least three projects on our townhouse: new bathroom, basement re-do, new vanities on other bathrooms, flooring, etc. he is the only cabin contractor we will use. His bids are very detailed. If his price is higher than other bids, look carefully at the others. Ask questions. You honestly cannot get a better contractor.

Arms quickly provided a competitive quote and performed the work. It was a pretty basic job, but they were prompt and did a great job!

The whole episode with remodeling the shower was a nightmare for us in the first place as we hadn't planned on it. There was a leak which was traced to the shower liner and that meant it all had to be ripped out. Allen was gracious to move around his schedule and work quickly with us and made this craziness more bearable. Allen does amazing work! We've hired him before for other projects and have always been completely satisfied. He communicates exceptionally well on how the project is going, what else he needs to do, and additional options to make it look and function perfectly. He helped us find reasonably priced tile, gave us his professional advice on grout, and showed us pictures of various finishings in his home that he uses and recommends. He also worked around the nap schedule of my children or at least front loaded all the noisy work to earlier hours. Since we were in a time crunch too, he worked Saturdays and did the tile nearest the door section first so the glass door could be measured and cut quickly for an earlier install date. Additionally, he moved the temperature control to a reasonable height, installed a diverter, and installed a ceiling rain shower. He hand cut all the tiles for the floor and explained to us what different materials were available to reduce the possibility of mold since it is a basement shower. Fair warning too - he will unlikely be your cheapest quote but I've had a few experiences with the cheapest (or cheaper) quote and prefer Allen's pricing and quality any day of the week.

Allen, the proprietor of ARM's Home Improvement, provide us with accurate estimates of the costs for labor and materials, worked with us to modify the original contract as our requirements changed, and did an excellent job on the project. We are quite pleased with the results, and would use Allen and his company again.

Several years ago, we were planning extensive renovations of the basement of our town house. As was our custom we contacted several companies to request bids. After we met with 5 contractors and considered their bids, we were still not satisfied with our options. At that point we found Allen Metcalf. When we met with him, he seemed to understand right away the work we wanted done. We felt comfortable with Allen?s vision and time table. And his bid was competitive. His work was excellent then. We were beyond satisfied with the results. So for our next big renovation this year, we called Allen right away. We had lower bids, and that?s the only reason for the B rating on price. But we opted for quality work. It took Allen and Dale Duval about a month to complete the work as planned. They were on time and on schedule and very mindful of our working from home. To say that the work was satisfactory would be an understatement. They did an outstanding job! The work was as exceptional as it was several years ago. Allen Metcalf is a perfectionist! He has no shortage of tools, and does everything meticulously. Allen has nearly 30 years of experience. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND ARM?s Home Improvements for all your home renovation needs! We will certainly call him in the future. As a matter of fact we bought second new medicine cabinet so he will be back soon?..
