Peter was great--showed up same-day on very short notice, inspected the whole of the house and some sags/cracks I was worried about. Was able to set my mind at ease that there's no underlying safety/structural concern, and provided detailed explanations on everything in layman's terms. Great guy.

I hired Peter to provide an overall structural assessment of my house and to offer his professional advice on a few issues that came up during the initial home inspection. Peter was very responsive and was able to come out much sooner than he had originally anticipated. During the assessment I found Peter to be both congenial and professional. He clearly had the in-depth knowledge of older Baltimore homes that I had been seeking and was able to succinctly explain various aspects of the house in a relatively short period of time. Great! Peter came in, made sure I knew who he was, showed me his drivers license and his engineering license so I could confirm who was entering my house. I have a crack in my wall and fireplace. I was relieved to hear that it was not an urgent issue but Peter explained the situation, what signs to look out for to indicate it was worsening, and what measures to take to correct the issue. We had an extremely positive experience with Structural Solutions, Inc. The owner, Peter, called me the morning after I left a message through Angie's list. He then arranged to come to our house the next day and assess our situation (cracked joists, concrete floor, and walls in our basement). Peter was highly professional, providing identification upon arrival (we did not solicit his ID, he offered it) and doing a thorough inspection of our basement areas of concern. He then discussed options for addressing the problems with us. He was very clear on those actions he believed we should do and those that he thought would be beneficial. My husband and I were very comfortable with him and are in the process of hiring a general contractor to complete the work he recommended. We believe the costs we incurred for Peter's independent assessment was well worth the information obtained. We highly recommend him.

I am a Real Estate investor in Southern Maryland. I needed the foundation on a property evaluated. I called Mr. Malmquist to inquire about using his services since his reviews were so positive. My property is a bit out of his coverage area. However, he was kind enough to offer to give me his thoughts on any pictures of the foundation I had. I forwarded him my pictures, and as promised, he called and provided me with his thoughts. He was professional, and most importantly he was sincere. He did not shy away from providing his professional opinion even though it probably was not what I wanted to hear (from the perspective of making this deal happen). I great appreciated his candor though. And when I do have a job requiring a structural engineer, in his area, he will be the first person I call.

Mr. Malmquist responded to my inquiry by email in less than an hour (on a Saturday). Once we made contact by phone, an appointment for the evaluation was set for the following day. He arrived on time and did a thorough review of the structure, even the dirty crawl space. Mr. Malmquist took the time to explain his recommendations to us and our realtor and, once the evaluation was over, a formal letter detailing these recommendations was complete on the same day so that we could send it along with our requested repairs to the sellers of the property. His timeliness and professionalism was exceptionally welcome, particularly given the tight time constraints of our inspection window. Furthermore, as we are first-time homebuyers who are unfamiliar with the maintenance of historic structures, we very much appreciated the time that he took to go over the details.

Came on time. Got right to work. Told me that the board could not be removed and explained why. Surveyed the rest of the house to see if there were any other signs of structural problems. Reviewed my options with me for the stairway, which are limited due to the Code.

He came on time and was very professional. He confirmed what I needed to do and not do.

A+ in every area. The owner called me within about 30 minutes. We talked for 10 minutes or so and I answered his questions about the size, location, frequency, etc of the cracks. He told me there was no need to come out that this was standard and there were no structural issues, but that I should do whatever I could to get the heavy rain water away from the foundation. We discussed some remedial actions that I was considering and he supported them. He would not charge me for his service, saying that it was minimal impact on him. If only everyone was this honest and co-operative.
