The two young men who did the job were excellent -- courteous, professional, thorough in performing this 20-minute job. Unfortunately, the job was performed 2.5 hours later than promised; the dispatcher told me they had a flat tire on the truck, other vehicles were not available, etc. And even though the company is located only a mile or two from my home, they charged me an hour's fee ($79.99) as a "travel fee", doubling the price -- when they could have taken a taxi, since no special equipment was needed.

I I was assured that I would be meeting two movers who were experienced and built like linebackers. What I got were two very young men who were built like tennis players. They urged me to add on a third mover to assure safety. I agreed and a middle aged man showed up.The third man was the only one who seemed to have done this before. He, however, stayed mostly in the truck. The other two acted like they were improvising everything they did. Several pieces of furniture were damaged as they fumbled their way through the process of loading the furniture into the truck. Anytime this would happen they tried saying the furniture was overly fragile (not so) or already damaged (also not true). They refused to accept directions to the new house and insisted instead on following me. Even though I drove very slowly they seemed to have trouble tracking me but they did eventually catch up and arrive at the house. As they unloaded the furniture I noticed damage to some pieces that must have happened in transit. When I had them set furniture in place in the new house they managed to gash the walls in several rooms.Once everything was finally unloaded they tried joking with me and acting like all the damages were minor and hardly noticeable and just what you would expect. They then presented a bill which was $300 higher than what I had been quoted. They claimed this was due to the third man.Overall I think I could have done better just renting a truck and hiring three strangers from off the street.
Description of Work: This should have been a simple and effortless move. I had moved around the country several times and had worked with a number of different moving companies but Starving Students was by far the worst experience I have had.It was a small move from a one bedroom apartment in Baltimore City to a home I had purchased in Baltimore County. I described in detail what furniture I had and that some pieces were rather large and others were antiques that required some care. I was assured I was in good hands and they could manage the whole thing effortlessly.

The movers were over 4 hours late. When the two movers arrived, one immediately began complaining about having to climb three flights of stairs (I informed the scheduler of the location of both 3rd floor apartments and that there were no elevators available). When I addressed this with the mover, he became argumentative and the second mover told him not to talk to me for the rest of the day. The mover who was complaining moved very slowly all day but the second mover was pretty efficient. We tried to pay the movers in cash and they told us we had to use a credit card. They did not write the billing address of the card correctly and when the transaction was processed I received a harassing call from the Accounting Department saying our payment was declined. They tried to process the card more than 3 times with the incorrect address so the credit card company put a stop on the card. I was told that they were sending us to collections if we did not pay with another card immediately. I paid immediately with my debit card, but I still don't understand why the movers would not just take the cash, as they took the initial deposit (when they first arrived) in cash. This all could have been avoided if the movers took the payment in cash or if they would have taken the time to correctly write the billing address of the card (they wrote the billing address as the address to which we were moving....we didn't live there yet, so how could that be the billing address of the card?).

At 9:30am on Sunday, I was informed that nobody showed up for work and therefore, they could NOT move me on Sunday. When I told them that I had already bought back days on my house and needed to move that day, their ONLY solution was to call another mover. The manager's attitude was this is my problem not theirs!
Description of Work: I confirmed a reservation for a move 19 days before the actual move date. The time-frame for the move was on a Sunday from 8:00am- 12:00pm. I was assured that this company moves 24/7 and that Sunday would not be a problem. Since I could not secure a reservation for an early date, I had to rent back days on my house.

DON'T BOTHER HIRING THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. THE MOVING TEAM FOUGHT AMONG THEMSELVES AND USED FOUL LANGUAGE IN FRONT OF MY CHILDREN AND ME. THEY BROKE SOME OF MY FURNITURE AND I HAD TO COMPLAIN LOUDLY TO GET THE PROBLEM RESOLVED.
