We developed a leak from our kitchen light. We called the Company and they gave us a window when a plumber would be there that day. A plumber called within an hour and was at the house. He saw the problem, put down drop cloths and began removing the kitchen ceiling light. He then took down the ceiling and located a pin hole lead in a pipe from our master bathroom overhead. The pipe was replaced and the mess cleaned up in a relatively short period of time. Very efficient.
Description of Work: Individual located our leak with the help of my husband. Was very neat and kept the mess contained. Replaced a copper pipe with pin hole leak.

I hired Len the Plumber and never again! And i am kicking myself in the neck because i read on Angie's List their bad ratings. Why did i do this!!! Prior to calling them, i had called four other plumbers over the weekend and no one was available. So, i called Len because my husband had heard they were ok. They told me the service call would be $49. Since i was desperate for a solution, i agreed. When the technician came, he realized the complexity of finding the problem and told me he would need to charge me $165. So i assumed the $49 service call would be waived. To this day, i do not know if it was or not taken out as "obviously" they do not show you their rate sheet. While the guy was here, (by the way he was very pleasant and courteous and professional in his way of handling himself), he looked at another issue we had....water leak in the foundation by a hose bib. He told me that the leak was probably due to the water inside the hose that was getting frozen and it traces back into the pipes causing leaks, etc. At no time he told me he would "winterize the hose bib". So at the end of the 3 or 4 hours, he said, here is what i suggest to repair the problem and gives me a written estimate. And a bill for $412 dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what????????? He then tried to make me see how much time he had invested (trying to find the water meter to turn the water main off as we do not have shutoff off water valves and he had to find it in our large property, in the woods. then his time to unclog the tub which took him about 10 minutes. $40 bucks! then his time to winterize the hose and bib which my husband could have done and done it for free and in 5 minutes. All that takes is 1-shut off the valves. 2-letting the water out of the hose. 3-disconnect the hose from the bib. You'll be the judge to my case. The technician agreed to reduce the fee to $356. I still think this is a rip off as he had told me that to diagnose the problem, he'd had to charge me $165, and he had me sign on it. Why didn't he do the same thing of writing down in his sheet the extra time with a dollar figure next to it and had me sign? What he should have explained was the number of hours the $165 would cover me, and not surprise me at the end. Live and Learn. Ana from Towson.
Description of Work: Diagnose a water leak in the water lines of two sinks. Problem was not solved due to other issues. Initial charge was $165. Unclogg my tub...took him about 15 minutes...charged about $40. Total surprise bill $412, which i fought and they reduced it to $356. I still believe it was unfair and not explained correctly.

We have used Len The Plumber a couple of times and they are pretty well known in the area. I don’t know if it’s fair but I know one of their employees who is at the top of the food chain there so obviously prompt service was easy because she took care of that. They have been very knowledgeable both the times we have had them out here. They have been easy to work with. They explain the problems well. I’m a very curious guy so I’m always interested in what’s going on. They were willing to explain the problem and were okay with my little interference in what they were doing. Also, when they found bigger problems, they were willing to explain what those problems were and how it affected us and what our options were. They were very helpful. We went with their suggestions, ultimately. It might have cost us more money at the same time they were good enough to check everything and make sure it was okay. They are a little pricey and they know that. They have a set price for everything. They take out their book and show it so they know the price and we know the price. There is no changing in that price. Their price may be the only reason why I would probably look at other places to do it. However, if it is a major plumbing problem I would use them.
Description of Work: We used Len The Plumber a couple of months ago. We had a leaky drain, which they fixed.

After having two other plumbers come in to give a quote and not getting a good vibe from them, I was really looking for someone I could trust. I was immediately impressed with the initial communication I had with the ladies on the phone at Len the Plumber. They sent Jim out the next day to give me a quote. He gave me a very detailed explanation of what was going on and what it would take to fix everything, which I very much appreciated. He mentioned too that he had seen jobs like this before, which gave me more confidence in his work. It was a big job, but he gave it to me straight and I knew that he wasn't trying to do more than he had to, like some other plumbers had. I was able to call later that day and schedule him for the following week. He was here promptly in the morning, gave me a briefing about what to expect, and got right to work. He worked diligently all day to finish the job, stopping only to explain and show me what he was doing. When he finished he pointed out the things he had done (which included a few small extra things he hadn't anticipated, but rolled it all in the quote he had given me) and even gave a few suggestions for other non-plumbing water problems we are having. I asked him about a couple other small problems in the basement and he gave us a quote for those. (We then had him come back the next week to fix those, which he did in the same prompt and diligent manner as before). After all the work he had done, he cleaned up and left the place in exactly the same shape as when he had come. Overall I am highly satisfied and will definitely recommend Len the Plumber- and use them again if needed.
Description of Work: Our plumbing was a DIY job when we moved in, and needed serious help. We have a bathroom and washing machine in the basement with a sewage pump to bring it up to the sewer main, however the pit was not sealed and there was no vent so we had a terrible odor. Len the Plumber came in and properly sealed the pit and "re-plumbed" the pipes, including adding a proper vent to the outside, as well as re-plumbing under the kitchen sink upstairs (Which had previously been connected to the whole mess in the basement). We also had him come back the next week to fix two minor things in the basement, a leaky sink and poorly connected pipes on the water heater. He replaced the improper pvc fittings with copper on the water heater and corrected fittings under the sink.

I called Len the Plumber on Tuesday, and scheduled a Wednesday appointment (4p-8p) for a drain cleaning. Wednesday around 2:30 p.m. I received a call stating that they could come right away. I was still at work, and stated that I wish to keep my scheduled appointment. They said no problem. At 7:45p they called and said that they were on their way. Shortly after 8p they called again and said: oops, there was a mixup and the technician is stuck at his job for the next 3 hours. I said fine, rescheduled for tomorrow, Thursday. He scheduled me for the 8a-noon time. Silly me! I expected that, as a courtesy for keeping me waiting for 4 hours, they would come to me first thing in the morning. It is 12:07 and no one is here... They telephoned me around 11:40 stating that the tech was on his way. I asked if he would arrive before noon, and was told that he was in Waverly, and "should" make it by noon. As stated, no one is here. At 12:08 I just had a knock on the door. I told the plumber, "no thank you," as I had waited over 8 hours, and I got attitude from him and a grumbling: "Well thanks for calling." I have no obligation to telephone them and tell them that I would not accept them if they arrived after the time slot. They have lost me as a customer. FYI - I booked with them BEFORE I saw their angie's list rating... lesson learned.

Despite very pleasant, responsive schedulers, a 10-2 appt, which necessitated a missed day at work, turned into a cancellation on our part when 5:30 came and still no plumber. They did call to let us know they were running late and we understand that plumbing problems can be unpredictable but 3hours late is just too late. Very disappointed and we had been so pleased with how quickly they scheduled us and with a past service call. We will have to think hard before calling them again..

I had them come out and they immediately got started. They didn't provide a written estimate but person on phone ballparked dishwasher install at not much more than service call. When done, they hit me with $400 bill. I was livid and they wouldn't budge. They were at my house less than 20 minutes and most of that was spent arguing over the bill.

During the recent torrential rains, the sump pump failed, somewhat flooding the basement. I phoned Len on Wednesday after 6 PM and learned that plumber would most likely arrive between 10-2 the next day (many folks were having the same problem that I was). Thursday morning, I received a call before 8 AM saying that someone was on the way. Although he had the sump pump in his truck, requests for the battery back-up were rare. He called around to find one and left to acquire it. He returned two hours later and installed the system. Everything is working fine. FYI: the battery must be checked monthly for water level and replaced every three years.

We had a flood from tropical depression Lee. The force cracked our back wash lid and we had a water fountains streaming from both the backwash and our toilet. They called to let us know they were on the way , they gave us an estimate. The work was fast, very reasonable price wise and the technician was very professional. We then had them come back on 9/10 to replace our hot water heater. We again got prompt service. A good price and very professional technician. We are very pleased with their service and will be using them again. We just hope its not tooooo soon.

Let's see.. it's been a while but here are the top five reasons not to go with Len the Plumber. I am not saying all of them are terrible, but these are my memories of the work done for me. 1. They cracked my fireplace when installing the gas line. And told me I had to go buy him sockets for his drill or he wouldn't do any work. 2. They couldn't figure out how to put in the logs for the gas fireplace. And installed it wrong which could have caused a fire. 3. He couldn't figure out that installing the hot water heater onto a switch electric socket and turning it off.. cuts the power to the hot water. Leaving us with no hot water because he never tested it. 4. I had to pay another plumber to come out and redo the work he did. 5. He yelled at me in my house in front of my children when I asked him to leave.

Other than having to cut into drywall in basement to gain complete access to shut-off valve - it went well. We do have a 'trench' line in our yard to the road - but that was to be expected. they were very professional throughout the process. He explained everything to me - didn't mind if I watched. they even made the calls to get the permits, and 'Miss Utility" to mark all the electrical, cable and gas lines near where they would dig. The first worker showed up at 6:30 am and got a lot of the inside stuff done prior to the back hoe for the outside digging. It was completed by 1pm
Description of Work: Had a water pipe leak that caused flooding in front yard. They supplied and installed new pressure processing valve and dual check valve inside to code. Also added an expansion tank to water heater (code). Dug and removed old line; installed new line; tested and flushed lines to restore water. They also got appropriate permits and had the Utility folks here to mark the electrical, cable, and gas lines.

There was a service charge for the estimate that was applied to the repair. They gave me the estimate. I was very pleased because the service man was very professional and thorough. He went over the different quality levels of the replacement equipment. He came prepared to do the job and he did a good job. I was pleased because I was concerned about the potential of water damage. Although the project was costly, I was happy to have the job done properly. He replaced 1 toilet and replaced the kitchen sink faucet and so far it was been great. He was pleasant, personable, and informative. He worked very efficiently and was able to get all the work done in about 4 hours. I also appreciate that when you contact them, they will do their best to have the same plumber come out that may have done work for you in the past.

After weeks of calling plumbers who would only work M-F, I made an appointment with Len the Plumber for a Saturday 8-12 appointment. Received a call at 0800 and they asked if 10 minutes later would be alright since the plumber lived near me. Professional "Len" arrived on time and I told him that the toilet was running and needed new guts. He quoted me a price, but, we also saw that the shutoff valve was rusted and would not work enough to turn off water for the upper part of "this old house." I approved the additional work and bother items were repaired by 0900. Truly a good experience in my years of dealing with house repair folks.

They are very quick to respond when you need them and they know their stuff. They have done several different types of plumbing jobs for us over the years and they are very good. The price is reasonable and they come right on time. The technician this last time had to literally bend over backwards to get this thing installed. I couldn't get an installation price from them over the phone which seemed odd because all he had to do was hook up a new dishwasher. I was on a time constraint with my flooring installation dates so I hired them. Len the Plumber is not a favorite of mine. He charged me aproximatly $400.00 to hook up a dishwasher!! He was only there about an hour and most of that time was spent leveling it. I was appalled at what he charged me and really bothered that they were not willing to provide an estimate up front. I argued the pricing point with the plumber doing the installation and he presented a laminated pricing manual with fixed rates for projects. Ridiculous! They don't even price by the hour. I requested a portion of that fee back but I never saw any of it.
Description of Work: My old dishwasher broke and leaked. I had to have all of the big fans in to dry it for a few days. Before the new flooring could be installed I needed to install a new dishwasher. I called on Len the Plumber.

Beware that they charge $49 just to come out whether you have work done or not. My 82 year old father scheduled them to give us the estimate and was under the understanding estimates were no charge. When we asked the plumber about it he said the estimate was "free" but they charged a "travel fee." They never let my father know there would be a charge to come out and had we known we would not have had them come. They were on time and knowledgeable. They answered all of our questions and we discussed two types of back up systems. They had a sump pump on the truck and could have done that right away and the $49 fee would have been deducted; however, they deduct $100 for each additional job and we would not have gotten that discount because they did not have a battery backup on the truck and it was too late in the day for them to get it and they would have had to come back to put in the back up. If we had the sump pump and backup scheduled together we would have gotten the $100 discount but had to pay the $49 fee. This company gets added fees one way or the other. Their price for the work was $700 higher than other estimates. Because we were unhappy for having paid $49 just to have them come out and the high cost for the job, we did not use them and will never call this company again.

I don't know how much we spent. That's a question for my husband. It was probably several hundred dollars. I would tell others to use them. We have used them for years. They always arrive promptly. I think their prices are very reasonable. They have always done just what we needed. Our house is 60 years old. We have the original fixtures in our main bath. One of the plumbers that they had sent had a new faucet in his truck. I didn't like it, so he actually rebuilt our original faucet. He went to a plumbing specialty store and he rebuilt it and told us that it would last us for another 60 years. That took 2 days so he did have to come back and do that. That was really what I wanted so that was something that was definitely worth if you had the time and the money to spend on that. I didn't want a plastic single knob when we have the original ones in the bathroom. I was really happy with that. I have always been really happy with everything they have done. I would absolutely recommend them to a neighbor.

The work turned out excellent. They were helpful in choosing the model. They were prompt about getting here. It was a very difficult job because of the location and they were very responsible about that. They gave me good information all the way through the process and I am very pleased with the performance of the new unit. They don't have a salesman, they just send out the guy who does it so he's not going to tell me something that someone else can't do it. He was excellent and was very clear about what they offered and the advantages and the different models.

He showed up ontime. I have used them before. The price was sort-of in the neighborhood of what I expected to pay. The nice thing about them, is they come out the day you call them and they come prepared to complete the job. I was very pleased with the service. They didn't try to sell me a lot of stuff, which I appreicated. They gave me several price options on the part so I could choose. They explained the advantages and disadvantages of each option, so I could make my choice. They were in and out in an hour. In this instance there was a coupon that I forgot to give them. I called them, and they said they would still honor the coupon and mail me a refund. I was very surprised and pleased by that.
