MIKE KELBIE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING. DO NOT HIRE HIS COMPANY.

Kelbie was painting another home in our neighborhood. William Smith of Kelbie stopped by to offer an on-the-spot estimate. I knew it was a great price based on research I'd already done on Angie's list. Accepted their bid in the a.m., by the afternoon they were prepping and power-washing our house, and they finished painting it the next day. They did a great job and from start to finish were a pleasure to deal with. They trimmed hedges to get to the siding, cleaned up beautifully. It all looks great!

They gave me terrible customer service. The worse they had done was awful and they did not actually do the work done right. I was very unhappy.

Kelbie submitted a very competitive bid. Work was performed in a timely and professional manner in May, 2009. The roof looks good, they cleaned up after the job, and did great work. In addition, they stand behind their work. After the big snow storms in February, 2010, one of our gutters came loose. Kelbie came out and repaired it free of charge. Highly recommended.

I knew that I needed a reflash on a small section of my roof and was advised by another roofer that it would cost about $300. The Kelbie worker said we needed our roof re-flashed, chimney insulated and waterproofed and a partial siding on the house needed insulation. He seemed to know what he was talking about, was easy to talk to and we trusted him. Rather than get another quote I asked that he do the job. He advised me that the cost would be $2750.00 - which was way out of my budget. When I asked for a discount he said his boss Mike could only reduce it to $2500.00. I was told to pay 1/3 before - 1/3 midway and 1/3 upon completion. Was I presumptuous in assuming that the work would take some time and be quite detailed? I paid $1000 on a Saturday before the work started and was told they would start on the first day when there was no rain. There was no rain on Sunday, Monday Tuesday and when I called to find out when they were coming I was advised it would be on Friday. Now I'm upset because no one called me to tell me this. I learned on Wednesday evening that rain was predicted for Friday and called back on Thursday. I was advised that they would be finishing a job on Thursday and would get to me right after because they also knew about the rain coming... and again, they didn't call me, I called them. I had given up hope when on Thursday the worker & 3 guys arrived about 5:00pm and were finished by 5:35pm. I was shocked that they finished an expensive and major job in a little more than 30 min. The Workers explanation was "We work fast". I Paid the balance of $1500 because I had already signed a contract, but I felt ripped off. I'm still not sure if they did everything they were supposed to do. The worker promised to come back two days later to assess additional insulation that he said needed to be done and took my cell number, my husband's cell number and our home number and never called or came back. I didn't feel they were worth chasing down and so I never called them back either. Never, never, never again!

I was referred to Mike Kelbie by a friend, and have found his service to be consistent and first-rate. I am a contractor in Baltimore City, and in my business getting the job right the first time can easily be the difference between making money and losing money. I have worked with several roofers over the course of almost ten years, but I keep calling Mike Kelbie because I have yet to call him back to fix one of his jobs in the 5+ years that I've worked with him. There are plenty of people that will do the job at cut-rate prices, but Mike's price is actually below-market for the outstanding job that he does... he knows his business, and doesn't waste time telling you what's wrong and why (and when I've second-guessed him, I've found out he's right the hard way!). His crews are professional and clean up after themselves, and they finish the job QUICKLY (another plus for a contractor). Can't say enough about how pleased I am with these guys. Kelbie came out and did a quick inspection of the roof, patched the holes and gave us a good price on a new rubber roof. Kelbie came back a few days later to put on new rubber roof, they did it within a day. No leaks after new roof(2 months out now) and very happy with the work done.

It didn't work, and I have fought the charges for negligent work and not honoring the contract of repair, but he claims that he is not bound since he recommended a new roof. Rather then let him near my house again, I chose another contractor to finish the work. I had the job done (properly) by another contractor. When I told the other contractor of the claim that I needed a new roof they just said "We hear that allot". This business (Kelbie): the initial employee came out and was rude from the start with my wife and said I needed a new roof. I called the boss (Mr Kelbie). He appropriately came out and assessed the roof himself, and left a note agreeing with his employee. I sent him a letter explaining the other recommendations I had, and he left a voice mail for me using derogatory statements about these other contractors. Even if his sloppy job of caulk would have worked - $850 for that? In his defense - he provided same day "service" and we agreed to his $$ prior.

Kelbie was bad on the roof repair, & terrible on the skylight repair.There isn't enough space here to document all the problems.On the roof repair the workers were careless & destructive.They damaged other property during the course of the job & then tried to hide it &/or deny it & blame it on me & my wife.The skylight repair was so botched that other contractors hired to evaluate (& re-do) the work heard me say that Kelbie's work looked as if it were done by 'children' & they agreed.The skylight job was so ridiculous we canceled the final payment/check we had written. (Never did that before) Once the owner, Mike Kelbie, found out about the canceled check he called my home & left a 10min vmail threatening to ARREST MY WIFE FOR FRAUD, of all things.Kelbie refused to have someone even come look at the botched work until we paid the outstanding balance on the work; we refused.After initial threats, we NEVER HEARD FROM KELBIE AGAIN.We had to pay a new contractor to redo the whole project.

Even still considering roofers are generally on the lower rungs of the home-improvement ladder. Their unpreparedness required me to personally use my own tools and materials to replace the under-decking and to build up a sloped area on my roof so the water wouldn't pool. They should have done this. Later I had leaks in new places and had to patch myself. They said up-front that their work was guaranteed and certified. When I tried to get a certification paper they wanted to charge me more money and said that the paper wouldn't actually guarantee their work.

The day of installation the site supervisor did not remain on the scene till completion. The company contacted me for payment before the job was complete. The supervisor did not have a copy of my contract to know what my contract stated. I had to show the supervisor what my contract stated to ensure that the installation was complete. Kelbie did not completely replace my old metal roof. Kelbie laid some of the new roof over that old metal along the roof side walls. I complained to BBB. They told BBB that my roof wall was weak and could fall if they did anything to it, but mention nothing to me. On 4/4/05, two months after installation my roof leaked and has not be repaired since. Kelbie states it's a wall leak, the leak is over a foot away from the exterior wall. The wall never leaked before. Kelbie showed up to get another contract to repair it. Kelbie has not honored my 20 yr warranty. Kelbie fails to take responsibility for his employees work.

BASICALLY THE ROOF LEAKED AFTER THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE DONE, AND THEY TRIED TO SAY IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. THEIR WARRANTY IS NOT WORTH ANYTHING. THEY CUSSED ME OUT WHEN I CALLED TO TELL THEM THEIR WAS A PROBLEM. I ENDED UP HAVING TO DO IT MYSELF.
