Mike Kelbie (owner) contacted me after my previous negative report. I must say, it was like night and day compared to my previous experience. It's a real shame Mike doesn't do all the work himself. He is dedicated, personable, and responded to my complaints without being defensive. After our meeting I absolutely would not hesitate to use Kelbie Home Improvement again. That's the sign of a top notch contractor - acknowledging mistakes and making things right. One thing I like about Mike is that he'll do email, phone, or text. Many small contractors out there don't like doing business over the internet but Mike is just fine with it. He's responsive to both email and phone. He strives for that. He hires an answering company to ensure he doesn't miss a call. Seeing things from his perspective was an eye-opener for me. Mike contacted me to review the work performed on 8/17/11. He came to my house on 9/3. I asked him to explain the work done, which he did. It turned out my gutters were 182 lineal feet, which - at $12/ft in excess of 100 feet in the fine print of the Angie's Big Deal - turned out to be an additional $984. So, given that I had paid $1000 for the extra guttering plus some roof work, in fact I had received a "Super" Big Deal! I was quite humbled. Mike said he would not charge the amount I really should have paid. My suspicion of having been overcharged was completely unfounded. Mike did a good job of explaining what work had been carried out, and he answered all my questions to complete satisfaction. Regarding the perceived slow follow-up, Mike explained he had been inundated with work from back-to-back Big Deals, followed by some regular customer bookings, and then hurricane Irene moved in. I completely understood. A larger company with greater funding may have been able to plan more effectively, but Kelbie is a small company. I simply had not given Mike enough time. Mike was very gracious about the whole affair. He apologized for the incident involving the crew supervisor, said it was completely out of character; and although he didn't understand why the guy reacted that way, he would talk to him about his unprofessional behavior. He also promised never to sent that crew to my house when doing future work, if I was willing to do business with them again in future. Mike also explained some other work he could do around my house. He pointed out some potential repair items I had not noticed before. As a special courtesy to amend for the misunderstanding/bad experience, Mike offered to do some power washing on my house and fix a sagging soffit at the front of the house. I purchased the house 18 months ago and have discovered the joys of old home ownership - the house was built in the early 60's so there is plenty of work to do. Although I can't afford to do everything, I am trying to deal with the important things that won't (unfortunately) increase value. Mike stayed quite a while chatting to me about all kinds of things, including much about his family which I absolutely loved. He's a very interesting and likeable person, not at all disingenuous. He made me so comfortable and remorseful about the entire experience I said I would submit a POH. Furthermore, I have EVERY intention of hiring Kelbie again to do any future gutter/roof work, or anything else they do. It was interesting to note they can also get hold of asbestos siding to repair some broken shingles on my house. I hadn't even noticed the cracked ones, so it was very helpful to find out. I would recommend Kelbie Home Improvement Inc to anyone now, and will be sure I tell my neighbors about them.

They came back and did the back of the house. It was satisfactory. They did the work for me about two weeks ago. I will recommend them. They do a good job and they came back as well. I would say to watch over what they are doing and to check it afterwards to make sure it's done correctly. The price was good.

Mike Kelbie himself is very friendly and you can tell he genuinely cares for his customers and that he wants to get the job done right. It's obvious that he takes pride in his business and reputation by providing good quality workmanship at a fair price. He even followed up by phone & e-mail to make sure his workers showed up to get the gutter cleaning completed and he wanted to make sure I was satisfied - great customer service! I'll be using Kelbie for all my gutter cleaning maintenance in the future. I hope I won't need any serious repair work on my roof anytime soon, but if/when I do, I'm contacing Kelbie.

When I spoke with him about a refund, he said that I needed to look at things more closely. He told me to stop contacting him, and was very rude with me, even calling me a dead beat. Based off my experience with him, I fully expect a negative response. ************* UPDATE: Did I call it right?! Funny how he says, "she was drinking a lot or drunk and she was sluring her words." For the record, I NEVER spoke to him except by email, and I NEVER asked for a reduced price. I politely canceled, and then inquired about the refund. Just so Angie's customers can get a taste of this guy's customer service skills, here is his reply to me when I inquired about a refund: "No they don't pay us for 60 days after the deal runs we wait on our money on 60 days. I canceled you off the schedule please stop herassing me. You have to go to Angies list to get your money back or call up your credit card com. and dispute the charge. Please stop emailing me and lose my information do not contact me anymore. I suggest next time you purchase something to make sure you know what your doing before you do it. Try not to waste someone's time and I hope you get a gutter system cheaper $599. I see some dead beats in my time but you take the cake."

Again, very responsive, easy to work with. They explained everything they were doing. Final price matched initial estimate. I would absolutely use them again.

Found this company through an Angie's Deal. No difficulty in calling to set up the appointment. On the appointment day, Rey Morataya and his 2 man crew arrived within the time specified. Rey was very professional and courteous and his crew did a great job, and left the premises spotless. I paid only the amount of the Deal - no pressure for additional services. I did agree to receive an estimate for some roof repairs which we are considering for a later date.

This was just for the main roof. The porch roof rebuild was fantastic - the Kelbie team was careful to maintain the original look even though they actually improved the drainage system. All of the work on the porch roof was impressive, but the showstopper was that (even though it was not in the contract) they replaced a section of the soffit (that had rotted out and had birds living in it) and managed to match the original paint color. Their attention to detail was impeccable and is (in our experience) hard to come by in contractors these days. Having the roof replaced was a major commitment on our part, but we are confident that we made the right decision and are positive that Kelbie was the best possible roofing company for our needs. We were so pleased with the work Kelbie did, that after the completion of the roof, we hired Kelbie to patch sections of plaster in a couple of rooms and replace a ceiling in another. It is incredible what a seamless and meticulous job they did. We would have no hesitation about hiring Mike Kelbie and his team at Kelbie Home Improvement in the future and would give him and his company our highest recommendation. He is truly an exemplary home contractor.

Very pleased with the service. I bought into the Big Deal they offered for roof cleaning, and I believe the work done was more than worth that cost. My gutters were very badly clogged inside and very dirty outside and I'm surrounded by large trees so there was plenty to clean off the roof as well. I'm sure it took longer than expected for my small house. It appears to be a family operation and Mr. Kelbie is very pleasant to deal with and I look forward to working with him again.

Crew arrived promptly and set about to do the work, unloading the washer, which I noticed had a flat tire. As it was wheeled across my driveway, one of the tires left a silver stain on the driveway surface, which I had to ask them to clean off. The job was a result of a $198 Angie's List Big Deal, but I was surprised that the balance due for cleaning the entire house was an additional $200. Either their prices are high or my house is much, much larger than I think it is! I asked them for a quote to powerwash my deck, and it came in at $400, again, a price that I consider excessive but I admittedly have not gotten any competing quotes. I pointed out some areas of mildew on the vinyl siding and asked if his formula would remove it. I was told that all they use is water, and it would remove the mildew. I'm skeptical, particularly since an earlier Angie's List report indicated that they used bleach on the mildew at that house. Guess they were out of bleach the day that they came to my house. The house looks nice, so I am pleased with the quality of the work. He asked me to give him a good report on Angie's List, and I told him that I would make an honest report.

Mike Kelbie is extremely concerned about quality control and kept in frequent contact with me to ensure that I was pleased with the work. He is scrupulously honest and the most conscientious person that I have ever worked with in my 30 years as a home owner. Everything went smoothly and on schedule. Mike made sure that I was 100% satisfied with the work which I was. When the job was completed, he arrived with a trailer to remove the waste material. He did not object to my request that he also dispose of some old wood pallets that had been sitting in the garage and even asked me if there was anything else I needed to get rid of (at no extra charge)! While in the house, he also offered advice about how to fix various problems myself, easily and inexpensively (e.g., wiping down an outside white wall with bleach to brighten it, using rocks and a tarp to angle rain away from the house where it had pooled and seeped into the crawl space). This is typical Kelbie as he deeply values his customers and makes it clear that he does whatever he can to please us. I have encountered no other home improvement providers who offers such high quality service with fair prices.

We purchased the exterior pressure washing through Angie's List Big Deal. My phone call was returned almost immediately and we set up an appointment for May 26th. No one showed up that morning as scheduled, but my phone call to Kelbie was returned within an hour. It turned out we were scheduled for another day that was not convenient for us, but there was no problem scheduling a different day. There was no phone call prior to the crew coming out, but it did not matter since there was someone here. Rey and his helper began setting up and then walked around the house with me while I pointed out areas of concern. They then set to work and were done in under 2 hours. The job was done very well, and they even washed underneath the eaves and did part of my patio! I was very please with their work and will recommend them to others for this service. Since we will be in the market for a new roof and gutters this summer, Rey was willing to take a look and give me an estimate on the spot.

We'd gotten a Big Deal for a $198 power washing for the house through Angie's List. Rey, from Kelbie's and another gentleman used clorox on our siding first to kill the mold before power washing the house. Rey also noticed that some siding had opened up on the cupola on our garage. It had just happened this week I guess because we hadn't noticed it before and we'd been looking at the roof recently. Rey and his co-worker went up on the roof and fixed it for us w/ finishing nails and caulk at no charge. We also have a separate 1 1/2 car garage on the property that needed to be cleaned. Rey gave us a reasonable price for doing the building (although not nearly as good a deal as the basic Big Deal) and they cleaned that as well. Kelbie's staff was very polite and professional and they did a nice job of cleaning the house. I was impressed that they used the clorox on the house first at no charge and didn't just spray away. A contractor had powerwashed the back of the house a year or so ago when he added to our deck but didn't use clorox and the mold came right back. For the price, I was expecting Kelbie's to say that the house had mold on the siding so there would be an upcharge to use a cleaner w/ the wash first. They didn't - no hidden charges once they got here.

It was a little tricky making an appointment, and we played "phone tag" for a few days. When the crew came out, the foreman was very personable. We walked around the house and he really seemed to be listening when I pointed out problem areas. I made it clear that we only wanted what the coupon would cover. They did not "add on" any extra charges. They were there a long time and did a thorough job. They went over some stubborn areas (under the eaves) twice! You could tell that they weren't in a rush to get the job done, which we appreciated. I would definitely use them again for power-washing. TIP: If you have an older house, with original, non-airtight, windows, have a few towels handy to wipe up a little water on the inside sills

The service was scheduled from 9:00 - 11:00, and I was to get a call prior to arrival at house. No call until 1:00, when they already were at house. Service was excellent. Job was above and beyond what I expected. Crew was great--very thorough and professional.

After 12 years of service from Kelbie's Home Improvement, with an extensive range of jobs, we have been thrilled by the excellent service. In the most recent job, we asked Kelbie to repair our flat roof. We had water coming in in about 20 places, in 4 different rooms. After receiving the call on a Sunday, Mike Kelbie came out immediately, on his day off. He even had 2 of his children with him, who waited in the car with their uncle, to continue their Sunday outing, after he checked out what needed to be done. The next day, a crew came out and worked on the roof. After the next rain, we still had a little bit of leaking. As soon as we informed Mike of this, the crew returned to do more work. A third round was necessary to get rid of every last drop of water. The continued problem was a result of an old ventilation pipe on the roof that the crew took care of during the last round. Yet despite the fact that the 3 trips out had more to do with the original workmanship of our house, Mike made sure that we were completely satisfied with the work, and at no extra charge. He promised that he would fix the problem, whatever it took, and that's exactly what happened. This description may sound too good to be true, but we have known Mike over 12 years, including the first job he did for us which involved waterproofing a crawl space where he had to literally crawl to get access. No one else would take the job. As usual, the job was done well, professionally and at a more-than-fair price. If I detailed all of the jobs he has done for us, this description would be too long, but suffice it to say that this is an amazing business, where Mike Kelbie takes great pride in making sure to do excellent work and does whatever is humanly possible to take care of problems in a timely manner. One time when we had skylights replaced, and I called to say there was a little tar left behind, someone came out in 24-hours to clean it off. It's simply unbelievably wonderful service. I would recommend Mike Kelbie for a wide range of home improvement needs. He has been a life-saver when it has come to our flat roof. You will not be able to find better workmanship or a fairer price.

They came and did the work that I purchased the Big Deal for. They then charged me an additional $320 dollars to finish the job. They may have said before that they would charge the additional fee, but it was not specified in the terms and conditions what the maximum square footage would be. It was implied that it covered a typical house.

Overall the job went well. From the time we first met for an estimate until it was done was only a week and a half. The crew came out and did the job in a day and a half, and they worked extremely hard - very few breaks, constantly working. I've never had contractors that worked as hard as these guys. There were no hang-ups during the work. Once they started, they didn't stop until it was done. During the job, there was some minor damage to the ceiling inside the house, and some minor damage to a shingle when the gutter was installed. Kelbie sent his crew back out within the week to fix the ceiling and shingle, and the end result is a job well done. He wasn't the most organized person I met with, but the bottom line is that he did what he said he would do and the crew was quick and efficient. No sales pitch, no B.S. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to someone else, or hire him for future work.

They were very professional. They called and let me know that they were coming. They arrived on time. As a matter of fact, they did a little more than what they were supposed to do. I was pleased with them. They were very thorough. I would recommend them to other members also. I would use their service in the future too.

After a few days of heavy rain, we noticed that water was seeping through our roof and onto a section of our wooden roof deck and some wooden beams in the attic. We called Mike Kelbie, who we had worked with before to patch a small leak in our roof about a year and a half before (He came over within hours of that call, and fixed the problem very quickly). Mike came over to take a look at the damage and give us an estimate. He suggested that we needed to have the roof completely redone, and we agreed. He let us know that he would get us scheduled for the first open date possible. weather permitting, and in the interim covered the leaking areas of our roof with tarp to protect from any further water leakage. One week later, the crew arrived at 6:30am, and completed the job by 3pm that day. Mike and the entire crew were very courteous and professional, and we are very happy with our new roof.

Kelbie was very responsive to emails and was able to move the clean date to one where I would be home. He and his crew member arrived on time and put in well more work than the price. They used ladders to get up to the tops of the house siding to use the washer, and did a very thorough job. We were very pleased (gave a tip), then Mike also provided an estimate to clean, stain and seal our deck.

The crew was very professional and the Team leader was responsive in answering my questions. Upon conclusion of the work, the team Leader did a final inspection with me. I would highly recommend them for future work and would certainly use them again. They did a really great job!!

They had to change the schedule for the initial appointment but called a few days ahead to make those arrangements. They apologized, explained why they needed to change, and were very accommodating in setting up the new time and day. On the day of the new appointment the team showed up a little early. The team leader (who's name escapes me now) introduced himself, and explained what they were going to do. We walked around the house to discuss any trouble spots or issues (for example, to see if they anything needed to be moved out of the way). He reminded me to close all the windows which I particularly appreciated. Then they set to work. They finished in about 45 minutes and asked me to inspect the work before they put their equipment away. Everything looked great. The house was clean. Everything that need to be moved was back in it's place, and I noticed the extra cleaning they'd done (the porch, etc). The team was profession, efficient, obviously took pride in their work, and gave me more value than I'd expected on top of an already great price. I will probably call them when I need some roofing work done.

Kelbie Roofing came to our house to address a leak in our flat roof that was continue to worsen with the April increase in rain. He quickly determined the issue with our roof which was that real repairs had not been made in the past and patch coats had simply been reapplied and reapplied. Kelbie proposed covering the entire roof with a new Firestone roofing membrane. Additionally, he proposed replacing gutters on the front and back of our house, repairing our box gutter, and re-line our porch roof with a new overlay. At no additional cost, he also replaced the roof access hatch. Our roof has probably not had the proper attention and maintenance it requires for close to 50 years and Kelbie proposed a remedy for our roof's neglect. The work was done professionally and efficiently. His workers arrived right on time, completed the work quickly, and cleaned up after themselves. Kelbie came back to walk us through the work he did and showed us the improvements that he made. The leak has not been an issue for the last week despite additional rain fall and our house is benefiting from the extra insulation provided by the three-inch thick roofing membrane.

Mr Kelbie and his technician called me before they left to inform me they were on their way. They arrived on time and started work. On Mr Kelbie's advice I had them clean my backyard fence which had gotten very grimey. They did a very professional job and I am quite happy with the work. I would defiitely hire them again.

I was not impressed with the head contractor who I dealt with. He was very unsure of how to approach getting up onto the roof. He also told me that my roof was in worse shape than I could possibly have believed. He gave me dire warnings about what could happen if not repaired. Nothing bad happened, but I wouldn't recommend them.
