I was in the market to replace roof and used Angie's to determine companies to choose. Kelbie's immediately drew my attention with their stellar rating and package deals. Of course, I knew my roof exceeded the 2000 sq ft limit, but their prices still seemed comparable to others. When i contacted Mr Kelbie, he made every effort to meet me with my busy schedule. Mr Kelbie was very professional and most of all was flexible to my desire to have my roof replaced fast. All other vendors could not give me an exact date, but a 3-4 week window (dependent on weather). My new roof was done within a week. My yard looks like no one was ever there and the roof looks great. Even after the horrendous storm with 85 mph winds last week, not a shingle was out of place. I read other reviews and a trend i heard people complain about was the unavailability of the contractor when you needed to reach them. Even after the job was completed, every email or phone call to Kelbie was met with a prompt response. Mr Kelbie also informed me of a $300 military rebate offered by GAF for a roof replacement. None of the other vendors mentioned that to me. In the end, I received a new roof fast, without hassle, and even saved money. They the were cheapest quote and the fastest installer...Very impressed

I e-mailed Mr. Kelbie on June 15, 2012 to request an estimate for painting the exterior of my home. He replied promptly (the same day) that he just needed my address & phone number. He stated that he would be available anytime after June 26, 2012. I replied to his e-mail later that day and included the requested contact information, but I never heard from Mr. Kelbie again. UPDATE: I received an e-mail from Mr. Kelbie today, July 11, 2012, with an apology for not contacting me about the estimate for the painting. He informed me that he had been very busy and was also dealing with additional family issues due to the birth of a new baby. He offered to arrange another time for the estimate.

Mike was very responsive. He was a bit overwhelmed by the response to the Angie's Big Deal, so it took a while to schedule the first appointment and then a few weeks until the roof materials came in. But Mike was very good with emails letting us know the status. The workers worked long days to use all the time when it was not raining and we had day lite. They cleaned up and appear to have done a good job on the roof -- it looks great from the ground -- and didn't leak in the last very crazy storm:)

Mike Kelbie was quite busy when I contacted him about the job and there was some mis-communication between us. Once I got in touch with him, he was quite prompt about coming out and giving us an estimate. After we had signed the contract, his work schedule was quite full and we could not get on his schedule for at least a month. When we could get on his schedule, we were going to be out of town. We were finally able to agree on a tentative time (over seven weeks after we signed the contract). Again, there was a communication problem about the exact time the job would be done--it slipped a couple of days from the date we had agreed upon. The materials were delivered and placed on the roof at least a week before the work was actually performed. When the crew actually arrived, they were fantastic. The day was the hottest thus far during the year; however, the crew worked quickly and did efficiently. They completed the entire job during the afternoon of their arrival. Their work and trash trailers were removed the next morning. The communication problems led to frustration on our part, but completed work appears to be worth the wait.

Overall, I am very pleased with the work and repairs made by Kelbie Home Improvement. I did have some issues but they were corrected. They order the wrong color siding by accident but they did get the correct color siding before installing. Also they ordered the wrong soffits and I didn't notice it until they started installing it on the front porch. But they did remove the wrong soffits and installed the correct ones in place. Also at one time during the installation on the roof, Kelbie's crew were removing the old plywood on the roof and all of a sudden it started to rain. They quickly covered up the exposed roof to protect it but some water did manage to get in the house and ruin a section of my ceiling in the master bedroom. Mike Kelbie hired a contractor to fix the ceiling at his expense. The contractor came out and did an excellent job fixing the ceiling. You cannot tell that the ceiling was repaired. This was a difficult job because the ceiling is textured and it's hard to make the texture ceiling look like the original. So overall, I am very pleased with their work. The house looks like a brand new home now. Sure there were some issues but they correct it and worked very hard to get the job done and to make me happy. I would recommend Kelbie Home Improvement to anyone who are looking for a home improvement contractor. (UPDATE) Recently one of my shutters blew off the house from a severe t-storm on June 29th, 2012. I told Mike Kelbie about it and he agreed to fix it for FREE!

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! We got off to a bad start because Mike Kelbie missed his papointment to come and had to reschedule. I should have taken that as a sign. I signed a contract for a GAF certified roof. For that appointment, where he took my deposit, Mlke Kelbie was on time. I told him that I wanted the roof job done when I could be there so we scheduled my work FOUR weeks out on Saturday, June 23. His employees came mid-week and loaded my roof with the shingles but Mike never told me they were coming. I happened to be home so I could move my cars but what if I were not home? They loaded my roof by using a huge crane so they needed me to be there to move my cars. But no one ever told me they were coming. That morning, June 23, something told me to email Mike and ask him if he and his crew were coming. He did not apologize but said he forgot!!!! He wrote a completely unprofessional email which essentially said that he forgot and then said oh, you're that townhome in Alexandria. He then wrote back and said he could come on Sunday or Monday. I selected Sunday because I wanted to be there, as I had stated when I originally signed the contract. He said he would be there. Because I am a minister who works on a Sunday, I called my church staff and asked them to cover for me. On Sunday morning, I emailed Mike again. He said that his crew had worked late into the night on another job and that they would not be there on Sunday. He said they would be there early Monday. I told him that I would not be there. He replied that I did not need to be there. Again, I stated that I scheduled the roof work so I could be there. On Monday, his crew came after I had left for work. Four times, Nestor called me at work to ask me for final payment. I told him that I would have paid them if they had been there on Saturday or Sunday. He agreed to come by Tuesday morning for the final payment. I told him I would be paying by credit card. Mike and Nestor also promised me pictures of the new roof but I have never gotten them. On Tuesday, Nestor came promptly to pick up the check. I stated again that I was paying by credit card. He stated that only Mike had the credit card machine. He took a credit card authorization from me and later Mike emailed me with a credit card slip for me to sign and send back. I still don't have any pictures of the completed work. Three neighbors asked me about Mike Kelbie. I told them " I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM."

Although, initially contracted for gutter cleaning, Rey identified some issues with the roof, that he could repair at the same time. This saved me time and effort in contracting someone else to this work and the cost was comporable with other estimates. When he found out he did not have the proper sized pipe collar in his truck he went to get it, and left his assistant to complete the other repairs which permitted ample time to finish the effort dliberatively and professionally.

The installation went fine and very quickly. clean up were good , only there were lots of staples left and one of the worker accidentally broke one of my flower pots that set on my front steps. The company should have been responsible and not charge the person. What about being insurance d ? Overall, I am happy with my roof and with the workers, But, I give the company a (C).

I was able to contact the owner via e-mail then was called by phone. I thought he was quick to respond and generally nice and to the point. The appointment for an estimate was on a Saturday at 8 am. He suggested the time and thought it would be great to get this out of the way so early in the morning. Around 8:30 still no show, I called the company to ask if someone would still be coming by. Soon after I was contacted by the owner and was told he was 7 miles away. About 50 minutes late, no big surprise. It is hard to find anyone who cares to be prompt, but depending on how you view tardiness this may not matter to you. Once he arrived, the owner seemed distracted by my roof. He told me he was doing a special on shingles and quoted me some number that meant nothing to me since I am not a roofer and am unaware of current roofing rates. I was a little taken aback that his focus was on the roof despite me telling him I wasn't interested. My roof is about 7-8 years old and despite damage to one edge, the roof is in great shape. It is hard to trust professionals at times when they seem to be making hasty decisions. If he honestly thought I needed a new roof it would have been nice to see some examples of why I need a new roof, not just because he is running a "special". It is extremely wasteful on many levels and I was offended by this attempt to take advantage of me. I diverted his attention to my actual needs, that being new gutters. On the gutter topic he was great at explaining the options and various debris guards. We came to an agreement and I gave a deposit for work to be started. He told me he could start/finish Monday. The weather was a little iffy so he called off the install for Tuesday. That was fine with me as I'd rather not have workers get injured or die trying to install gutters. I came home Tuesday from work to see the new gutters installed. From a glance of 30 some feet away, they look like 6 inch gutters with some sort of debris guard. I have to wait until a heavy rain storm to see how they perform and perhaps a fall/spring season to see how the debris guards truly work. It looks good though. I can only assume that if they look good they work good. All in all I am happy with the work, just a little annoyed with the salesman pitch. I don't know what to think about the lateness and the sales pitch. I understand the whole "I have a business to run and I am trying to generate new business", but the fact of the matter is, being honest and gaining my trust is what will generate new business. I will probably call up Kelbie when I need a new roof since I think he is an honest guy, just comes off as a salesman, and looks to do good work.

Our roof was around 20 years old and showing visible signs of deterioration. We saw the Kelbie Home Improvement "Big Deal" advertisement on Angie's list, and included them in our short-list of three local contractors. The owner, Mike Kelbie, took the trouble to research our roof's dimensions and profile online in order to submit his initial estimate. He then visited our home personally to review the work site and take note of the skylights installation requirement first-hand. The work crew arrived on the agreed date, and on time. We were impressed that the crew leader made it his practice to be present over the majority of the two and one-half days the work took place, and was available at key times to answer our questions. We were able to view the various stages of the work as it was undertaken, which made us more comfortable with what is a major project for any homeowner. In addition to the work agreed on the estimate and work proposal/contract, Mike collected the four new skylights from the manufacturer and delivered them personally, and had his crew remove some overhanging tree limbs, install extra attic vents and additional drip edge, all at no cost. After each work day, the area around the house was cleared of debris and materials stored so the property resumed its usual appearance. At completion, all debris was hauled away. Within a week of completion, Mike returned to undertake a detailed inspection with us of the work, which included a walk on the roof itself. He has scheduled to also return in late Fall to do a further check up in advance of the winter season. The experience of working with Mike and his firm was without doubt an excellent one. It is unusual these days to find a contractor that takes such a visible pride in the performance and successful outcome of his work, as Mike did with our project.

Was not impressed with initial phone conversation setting up appointment. The individual complianed that having to travel to where I lived would cost them alot of time and then asked how much of my home I wanted power washed. He explained that the coupon was only for a specific amount (sq. ft.) to be power washed and that the first thing they would do upon arrival was measure the outside of the house. In case it was more than the sq. ft allowed, he wanted me to state what areas of the house would be left unwashed. I almost called and cancelled the appointment after this conversation; however, the employees who arrived to complete the work were very personable and did a great job.

When my wife got home she thought the house had been painted, they did such a good job! They were very professional and friendly and I would absolutely use them again!

They came on time and we were happy with them. We were not there when they did the work and they took photos of the work and sent them to us. They were very through in the work and they offered us a deal to put on a gutter helmet, repaint the rubber roof, and replace the gutters which we are considering for additional work.

I was immediately impressed with this company when I called to schedule my deck cleaning. I spoke with Mike and he was very professional and responded right away to any questions I had by both phone and email. They even allowed me to schedule my work months after the expiration date of the Big Deal package, because it was more convenient for me. The persons who arrived to clean my deck were prompt and very courteous. Ray explained in detail everything that was to be done and even gave me an unexpected discount to cover additional work because my deck is large and I have a gazebo on it as well, and the Big Deal package only covered a specific amount of square footage. I have already made arrangements for additional work to be done at my home. I would definitely recommend Kelbie Home Improvement and I will be sure to add another post after my additional work has been completed.

They're good and I will use them again in the future.

It was a great experience. My house looks restored just like the day it did when I purchased my home. They arrived on time and started the job promptly. They explained how the process works. The workers paid attention to details and made sure they provided quality service. Also, it did not take a long time to complete the job. I am very satisfied with the quality of their work.

RESPONSE to KELBIE HOME IMPROVEMENTFirst, in your disingenuous response you conveniently failed to mention no one from the company had the courtesy to call me sometime before noon to let me know the work would not be done that day. I was told I would be the first stop of the day. So I waited at home on a Saturday morning and early afternoon for nothing. Second, I scheduled and paid for the work six weeks ago, so your explanation that you had too much work that day doesn't make any sense. Third, when I spoke with Mr. Kelbie and explained that I wanted a refund, he told me, "Well then, go f**k yourself." and hung up. Now I may be wrong, but in most businesss transactions that response doesn't convey a high level of customer service or concern for working with the customer to make things right, now does it? In fact, some people may find it rude and vulgar. And finally, to anyone thinking about contracting with this company, take a moment to review all the negative feedback the company receives and their responses. That pretty much sums it up.

I contracted with KELBIE HOME IMPROVEMENT on April 13, 2012, for a power washing of my home scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2012. I spoke with RAY who assured me that my home would be the first stop of the day between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and noon, and to ensure the outside water was turned on. I told RAY the water would be turned on, the screens would be removed from all the windows, the window sills cleaned, and that I would be home when the crew came out to do the work as I wanted an estimate for some additional work. I arranged my Saturday (June 2, 2012) so that I would be home when the crew arrived to perform the service. I waited from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and NO ONE FROM KELBIE HOME IMPROVEMENT EVER SHOWED UP. I went out to do some errands and, when I returned, there was a message on my answering machine that was so garbled and disjointed I could barely figure out what it meant. At 8:30 a.m., on Monday, June 4, I called the company and was told I had reached an off-site secretarial service who didn't know of a "Ray" and had no way to contact him or the company. I called another number listed for the company and left a message with a woman who apparently relayed my message to MR. KELBIE as he returned my call within a few minutes. I explained everything to him and he apologized, citing mechanical difficulty with a vehicle. I told MR. KELBIE that while I could certainly understand how things can happen beyond his control (ie; a vehicle break down), someone from the company should have called me sometime before noon to let me know the work would not be performed that day and to arrange for it to be rescheduled. When I told MR. KELBIE that I wanted to cancel the transaction as I no longer had any confidence in his company, he told me -- now get this -- "Well then, go f**k yourself." Nice, heh? A real customer service professional. I would never, never, never use or recommend KELBIE HOME IMPROVEMENT. On the other hand, the folks at Angie's List were extremely helpful in obtaining my full refund and urged me to provide feedback so that other consumers could avoid such a dismal experience.

I was very impressed with my Kelbie Home Improvement experience. When I called the office with a question about the Angie's list special, I quickly received both a call and an email from the owner offering the answer. Since the team was in my area that day, they were able to offer same day service. They called to let me know they were on their way, arrived on time and were polite and efficient. I will definitely contact Kelbie for future projects.

For the gutter cleaning, the crew showed up a little early and did a good job. I had also requested an estimate for power washing and sealing my deck (with the understanding that if I accepted the estimate the power washing could be completed the same day). I reviewed and signed off on the estimate, and provided a check for the full amount of the work. Then their power washer would not start. They apologized and promised to be back the following weekend (even though we would be out of town to complete the work). The weather was perfect that weekend - sunshine and no rain. However, I returned on Sunday to find that no work had been done. I called the office and left a message with an answering service. The owner called me back, and tried to tell me he didn't know what arrangement I had with his guys because they do not work on Sunday. So I had to reiterate that they were supposed to complete the work at some time over the weekend and did not. Instead of contacting his crew, he gave me phone numbers to contact the guys myself - very unprofessional in my opinion. I got in touch with the head of the crew, who apologized, stating he had an emergency and did not have time to complete my job. He "forgot" to contact me. I made him give me a date when the work would be completed, and he told me that Tuesday. I asked when the sealing would be done (as I understand the deck needs to dry first) and he said they would wait a few hours after washing it and seal it then. Of course it rained heavily Sunday night and Monday. Imagine my surprise when I returned home from work on Tuesday to find that the deck had been powerwashed (and because the wood was so wet from all the rain, it is torn up in spots) but not sealed. I gave the company a full additional day to contact me, but I heard nothing. My husband then left messages yesterday and today for the head of the crew, and did not receive a call back. He called a third time today and the workman answered. He explained that it has been too wet to do the sealing and will get to it next week. Again, he never called to communicate this to me and I have no definite date when this work will be completed. This has been an extremely frustrating process and I can't believe someone so highly-rated runs his business in this manner. I will not hire this company again and would suggest anyone think twice before hiring them for your job. Update: To be clear, Rey did make sure to contact us to finish the job, and finally my deck was sealed yesterday. I know there is no sense trying to re-explain the whole situation to the owner, because it has been laid out in a straightforward manner here and he still doesn't get it. I believe if you own your own business, you can't complain because you received a call from your answering service on a Sunday, but that is neither here nor there. If you only have to deal with one of the crews for this company, you may be okay. But if you have even the simplest of expectations about communication when workers are unable to show up as promised, as I do, you may be disappointed.

Called in the early afternoon on 5/23 and explained my situation. Four service technicians arrived late that same afternoon. They completed the work quickly and professionally. Mike Kelbie followed-up during the entire process. He provided digital pics of the work that was performed (a great idea), offered suggestions to maintain the roof integrity, and, upon my request, provided 3 options if I wanted to pursue a roof replacement.

They were punctual in setting up the appointment. They arrived within the established time frame. They thoroughly inspected the roof, resealed flashings that had started to go frail, they took pictures of a few shingles that needed repair. They also cleaned up behing them leaving no trace of their presence with the exception of the maintenance they did (re-caulking etc.)Given the professional job they did with the roof I am considering the gutter cleaning package since that appears to be one of the services they provide.

I called Kelbie Home Improvement to take advantage of the roofing special. The roof on my townhouse needed to be looked at and definitely was overdue for some maintenance work so I did not want to miss this opportunity with such a great price. I was able to get an appointment right away; in fact they were willing to work with me to have this service scheduled the same day that I was scheduled to have them power wash the house. They did a great job! I was extremely pleased with the power wash and the roof work was completed as promised in the promotion. They, resealed pipe collars, caulk exposed nail heads, and reseal caulking around the chimney flashing and exhaust fans. They cleaned and reattached my gutters that was down, and even installed gutter guards. After talking with them and reviewing the pictures I could clearly see that there was some additional repairs needed to be done. I plan to use Kelbie Home Improvement Company again and highly recommend their services. I was impressed with their work, professionalism, timeliness, and the cost was reasonable and fair. The power wash has restored the natural beauty of the wood on the town house and makes it looks like it was newly installed, also, I wanted to see just what it took to do this, it was well worth the cost, and I plan to keep this as a part of the regular maintenance routine to maintain the great appearance. I just want to say thanks to Mike Kelbie and his team for doing an outstanding job!

I had an appointment for today for 1-4. They did not show up or call. I called and ended up being called back at 4:30 by the owner. I asked why they did not call me and he said the workers did not speak English. I do not know why he did not call himself. I asked what he could do, and he just he could come out or I could cancel. So I canceled. I would not recommend them to anyone.
