Dennis did the estimate and he suggested the sanding or repainting of the kitchen cabinets. As I had been going to ask him about this, he anticipated my needs and gave me a fair estimate for the job. Ronnie came on time on Monday and with his help (Will) did a fantastic job! The had the whole apartment finished with one coat and the ceiling in the living dining room completed on the first day. The color of the paint that was used was a custom blend as it was a match to another product. The match was superb! Over the next days the second coats were put on the walls and they took care of spackling that I had missed and did a great job with it. They were also contracted to sand and varnish my kitchen cupboards and the work was really good. The sanding did not take away all of the scratches as they were quite badly damaged, but the finished look was miles ahead of what had been there. I was very pleased During the painting a globe from a new light fixture was broken. The cost for replacing was taken out of the total cost of the job. There was also some hardware that needed to be removed and hadn't been. After I removed it, the trim on the window where it was located was repaired and primed and painted. The work was excellent and the apartment looks brand new!!! I am so please. I will definitely ask for Ronnie again!
Description of Work: I had a 100 suare foot apartment that needed complete paint job from ceilings to closets to trim.

The service was fine. There were a couple of very small spots on the furniture, but they were very professional and they do a really good job trying to clean up and everything. They could have a way to avoid the splattering because it got on to one of my couches. The price was good. They did a nice job, but the couple of splatters were disappointing. I am not sure if I am going to use them again.
Description of Work: I have used Hands On Painters. They painted the interior of our house and they also power washed and stained outside on the deck.

The painters (David and Rodman) arrived on time, draped everything in the rooms to be painted, shielded floors and rooms that were not to be painted, and worked quietly and steadily to paint the ceilings. One room has a cathedral ceiling with two ceiling fans and several recessed lights, plus an overhead alcove that had to be difficult to get to. The other room ceiling encompassed the kitchen with range hood, several recessed lights, pendant lights, ceiling fan and light track. All obstacles were carefully masked. The painters took pains to be sure we could access necessary portions of the house if needed. They retextured areas of the ceiling where lights had been moved, and where wall board had been repaired. Both areas look great. They also color-matched an area in the hallway where an attic-access used to be. At the end of each work day, they thoroughly cleaned and put everything back in its place. Great job, guys!
Description of Work: Painted two large ceiling areas (one of them being a cathedral ceiling). They also color matched and painted a section of hallway ceiling, and retextured a portion of the cathedral ceiling before painting.

The repair went well and the repairman was very prompt. A supervisor arrived at the end of the scheduled time to, I assume, check progress and the work done. The supervisor asked if there were any other projects that I may interested in having estimates for. I proceeded to show the man an outdoor painting project. He listened, took notes, and told me he would contact me with an estimate - not a word since, so I guess repeat business is not a priority.

I was very happy with the job these guys did. Rudy was very professional, arrived on time, and even went out of his way to make sure certain spots got extra coverage, such as grease on my kitchen ceiling. They also did a great job repairing the many small holes, etc. in my walls from screws and nails. I would definitely use Hands On again.

Overall we are quite happy with the work. There was a spot of primer or other paint on one of the walls that was missed and my wife was concerned that it didn't appear that the baseboards were taped, so the lines were not quite straight. Other than that, I would have liked a smoother finish rather than the orange peel texture left by the rollers, but sanding and using brushes would likely have been well outside of our budget. The work to patch the walls was great. They used mesh tape and drywall compound to repair the cracks in the plaster and blended in the repairs (extensive in the living room) very well. I wish I had taken before and after photos. In any event, I can highly recommend Hands on Painters. Everyone was professional, courteous and quite trustworthy.
Description of Work: Derrick came to the house and provided a detailed estimate to repair the plaster and paint each room in our house. Given our budget, we decided to have the living and dining rooms patched and painted. The team was able to come out within our time frame and complete the required work well within the estimate. The new colors we chose were lighter than what was previously on the walls, so two coats of paint were required in the living room and I believe three in the dining room. Note that the $700 cost included a special offer which I purchased before receiving the estimate, so the cost would be a couple of hundred dollars more for the same work today.

To their credit, knowing my weekday schedule, Hands On offered to send someone out on a Saturday for an estimate. He showed up within 10 minutes of the scheduled time and was friendly but only spent less than 5 minutes on my porch. I showed him the areas that needed to be stained and painted. He then gave me his card - a magnet, whoo - and left, saying he'd email an estimate by COB Tuesday. It's such a small job that I was surprised it would take that long, but no biggie. When I received the estimate, it was significantly higher (5x) than the others I'd received for the same job - same power washing, same brand and type of stain and paint, same number of coats. I noticed that the estimate included things like sanding handrails (mine are PVC), staining the front step railings (again, mine are PVC with metal balusters), and painting the door trim (it's aluminum and in great shape). They also quoted $125 more if I chose solid stain over semi-transparent (Sherwin Williams' retail prices on these differ by about $2), so even if solid stain requires more work (which I doubt), that's ridiculous. I should mention that my front porch is covered, so it's in pretty good shape. It had no previous stain but needed a light power wash. The front steps were installed last June and had to "breathe" prior to applying stain, so - again - in good shape. The front doors are old with quite a bit of glass, so not a whole lot to paint. They needed a good scraping prior to painting. I was so taken aback that I responded to Thersa, who had emailed the estimate and let her know that I would not be hiring Hands On to do the work. It wasn't that I was looking to "cheap out" on the job, and I often take the middle estimate on jobs, but this was just so out of range that I had to laugh. Maybe because it was a smaller job they quoted me their standard minimum, and it certainly appeared as though it wasn't a customized estimate (because of the missteps mentioned above). Alex obviously didn't take the time to notice that there was nothing to be done to the door trim or the front railings and balusters. Overall, I'm very disappointed, as this company tells a very compelling story on its website and has some good reviews here. **UPDATE: Following the company owner's response, I want to make it clear that the total I provided was the total cost indicated on the estimate - YOU KNOW, THE NUMBER NEXT TO WHERE I WAS SUPPOSED TO SIGN. So, yes, to Jonathan's point, the cost of doing the work requested on the porch alone is quoted as $675; however, the cost to do the entire job requested is quoted as $2425. The only mistake may have been that they added the cost of both semi-transparent and solid stains. I assume that I'd choose one over the other, and if that's the case, the total quoted should've been either $1625 or $1750, depending which I chose. Their mistake - sloppy estimate that's STILL significantly higher than other quotes. In fact, I'm going with a local (Parkville) company that quoted $550 for the entire project, Sherwin Williams paints & stains, etc. The itemized list is as follows (copied directly from that estimate): Exterior Painting: Power wash and stain front steps, front porch decking semi transparent finish $675*** Solid finish $800*** Prep and paint front door and trim storm door both sides, 2 coats $325*** Paint front porch gate, white $100*** Front stairwell railings $150*** 3 sections of lattice $375***
Description of Work: Provided estimate to stain my front porch, steps, and 3 sections of lattice as well as to paint my storm door and front door and a small gate at the porch entry.

I have a feeling the total you stated was the combination of " ALL" the options we could provide and not the actual cost of completing your porch project which was $675 *** Sorry for any confusion on our part and please call or email with any further questions. 410 242-1737 info@handsonpainters.com Jonathan Zawacki

The exterior of my home has been long neglected. Jonathan, one of the company owners, provided estimate of repairs and we decided to take a staged approach. The crew arrived on time, and did an excellent job on the rusting trim around the windows and recessed lighting of house. But the work on refurbishing the front door was excellent and I was very pleased. One glitch was the workmen said they were unable to find a rubber sweep for the storm door and after contacted the company, the foreman returned the next week and installed one.

We live in a fairly old house with plaster walls. Old wall paper must have been cemented on - taking it off was a mess for us before calling Hands On Painters and even tough for them. Room needed a lot of work and the HoP guys were great. They did an excellent job of setting and cleaning up. Very professional crew. Only issue is it was hard to tell if their price would have been competitive without the Angie's List deal. Most likely would have been a bit more expensive but the quality cannot be questioned. Would use them again assuming price is OK.

This was an Angie's List special for 14 hours of painting et al, for $499. It took a couple of times to reach the office to schedule the special but the communication was professional. Hands on Painters sent two painters for the day and they did a very good job in prep and the detail work on the windows, grids, and other hard to reach places. They repaired holes, and blemishes on walls. The painters were very respectful of our property and protected the floor and cabinet trim. A supervisor stopped by a couple of hours into the project to see how everything was going.

Painters and management were prompt, courteous and thorough. Any quality issues were quickly addressed. Entire job was completed in 5 days. A few miscommunications between management, painter and customer, but they were also promptly resolved. They were hard working and always sufficiently staffed. I believe the pricing was more than fair, especially for the winter months (a great time to book painters). I will be using them again in the future. This is the first time I have wanted to establish a long term relationship with a painting company.
