From the in-house estimate to finishing up the work, the team from Hands on Painters was great! No detail was overlooked. When quoting, Jonathan Zawacki provided helpful guidance on selecting colors and mentioned that his team could install a new ceiling light in our two-story entry way, something we had considered doing, but didn't know who to call. The team was very professional and did an excellent job with both the painting and the clean up. They were a pleasure to have in my home. Now that they are done, it feels like we're living in a brand-new home!

We would use Hands On Painters again. Work has high quality. Dealing with staff from the owner, office manager, foreman to painters was a pleasure. We received a DETAILED estimate quickly and they were able to start the following week. Work was completed a day later than originally estimated, but we thought a three day turnaround was a bit ambitious so we expected it to take another day. Because of weather the second coat on part of the outside wall needed to be done later. They came promptly the following week, when the rain finally stopped, to complete the work. Prep work was excellent. All wallcoverings were removed and replaced. Floors and furniture covered and protected. We found only minor, very minor, speckles of paint after work was completed. We needed to change the color of the kitchen after seeing the first coat. There were no complaints and the additional charge was very reasonable. They also constructed an amazing chase to cover up a brunch of wires. Clean up was great.
Description of Work: Painted all interior rooms but the bathrooms for a two bedroom rowhouse in Baltimore. Removed wallpaper from kitchen. Painted one exterior wall and a short side wall. Did a bit of drywall work.

We called 3 companies and received estimates for each. Hand On Painters? estimate was the most detailed/itemized that was received and the most reasonable price. They started within about a week after we agreed to have them complete the job. They did a great job from prep to clean up. We even changed our mind on one of the colors after they had started (paided additional amount for material and labor--as we expected). We would use them again.
Description of Work: We needed painting done on the exterior trim of the house (shutters, front and back porch, house gables, garage windows and door).

The owner came out shortly after I called to give me an estimate. He was very knowledgeable and made several suggestions on paint colors and door stain finishes. The workers arrived on time, cleaned-up after each day, and completed the job as scheduled. Owner and staff were very professional. I will use this company again.
Description of Work: Painted kitchen ceiling. Painted upstairs hallway, which was stained from water damage. Made and placed 2 panels on a plain interior door. Resurfaced and stained exterior wooden front door. Painted and stablized outside porch railing.

Called for free estimate, the young man seemed very knowledgeable, and was very polite. Gave me an estamate over computer within 3 or 5 days which gave me time to get more estamates. His estimate was the best, so I hired him. His workers were the best. The work was excellent. I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend them to anyone.

The story is above, and I have little to add. The original contract was $9,800 for painting the siding and $2,400 for replacing the rotten wood. The extra cost was entirely accounted for by three items requested by me. We used a high grade pine which was more expensive. They power washed the white trim and incidentally got rid of several hornets nests which I had been unable to reach with a hand spray from Home Depot. And finally they caulked and painted the front and back porches, and replaced a piece of rotten wood. The final total was $14,190, and it was worth every penny.
Description of Work: We have a big house (8,000 sq ft) which has cedar siding on the first floor and cedar shakes on the second floor. Because it was architect designed, there are a large number of gables, roof overhangs and steep roof angles. It is not an easy house to paint. The main contract was to put two coats of siding paint onto all the cedar woodwork. The painters arrived on time each day, they painted steadily, they did not create splashes on the stonework, they did not damage the gutters with their ladders, and they cleaned up the mess of old paint cans and rags. A thoroughly professional job, and worth every penny that we spent. In addition to the gray cedar siding, the house has a large amount of white trim which had been painted by another contractor two years ago. Apart from two years accumulation of dirt and debris, most of this was still in good condition. I aked the painters to power wash the white trim, and most of it then looked good. This was one of the extras which I asked for, and accounts for an increase from the original estimate. There were some areas around the windows where the wood was frankly rotten. When it was pulled out, it turned out that the carpenters who built the house had not always primed the endgrain of window sills and window edges, water had got in, and had led to rot. The painting crew of two years ago had simply painted over the rotten areas and did not address the problem. When the pure painters had finished with the siding, two men with carpentry skills removed the rotten wood and replaced it with straight grain pine pieces which had been primed on all six sides. They then matched the old white paint so well that there is no visible difference between the new work and the old. When all this had been done, a walk-around inspection was done. The front and back porches (which are large and where all the woodwork is white) looked dilapidated in some places. Both porches contained wooden columns made from numerous pieces of wood jointed together. The wood had shrunk in many places, and there were gaps through which rain could penetrate and cause future trouble. After discussion with the head painter, I asked them to fill all the gaps with caulk, and provide a coat of new white paint to the treated areas. This was done, and the house now truly looks magnificent.

Overall, I was pleased with the experience. I felt the estimate was good and there were no surprizes in the final bill. I felt the communication with the POC was good from start to finish --- they were responsive when I had a question or concern. I was not completely impressed by the quality, although ultimately, they addressed all of my concerns adequately, so that I have no serious complaint. However, they may need to tighten up their management of sub-contractor usage, as my concerns were more a function of lack of attention to detail from staff that did not necessarily speak English and were not adequately supervised. I say this because of the following occurrences: I returned home from work (after the 1rst day of the interior work) to find that the first-floor bathroom faucet had been left on, running at full force. Since I arrived at ~ 7 pm, I could only assume that this faucet had been running for ~ 2 hours (assuming they left my house at 5 pm) --- I live alone, so no one else had access to the house during this time. I informed the job surpervisor of this occurrence and was given nothing more than a verbal apology. I was less than impressed with this response, but what put me off more was that the next day, the supervisor admonished the subcontractor in front of me, when I reminded the supervisor to please be sure this would not happen again --- slightly unprofessional, in my opinion. Also, I noticed a few, small (out of the way) areas that had not been painted, that when I pointed them out were quickly addressed. At the end of the interior job (2nd day), I arrived home to find a nickle-sized hole at the bottom of a wall in my living room, that had not been there before. The hole was not punched all the way through, as there was broken dry-wall that remained within the punched out area. This was clearly created by the painter(s), as the punched out drywall was the color of the new paint. So, it looked as if the guy knocked a hole in the wall with the end of a handle as he turned away from the wall (after painting it). Obviously, an accident, however just another example of not paying sufficient attention to what you are doing. This too, was quickly addressed to my satisfaction. I have no major complaints about the exterior work except that some areas of the wood do not look evenly painted to me --- they used a sprayer to apply the paint. When I called to ask about this, the supervisor came out to check and then informed me that it was just my perception because the wood was flawed and did not lay flat in all areas, giving the appearance of unevenly applied paint. So, I consider that my overall experience was good, because I thought the overall quality was good enough (without being inferior) for the cost --- which, in my opinion was excellent. By the way, they did a great job of sanding and painting my interior firelpace wall, which was designed a little creatively. Also, my contact with the office personnel was always very responsive, helpful and friendly.
Description of Work: In 5/2009, they painted the interior of 90% of my first floor (i.e. dining, living, foyer, hallway and kitchen). In 8/2009, they painted 1 side (the long side) of the exterior of my townhouse and the pergola roof of my deck (I have an end-unit townhouse) - excluding trim. I have a cedar-siding house.

After an initial miscommunication about the starting time, the crew were exceptionally professional, speedy, polite and cleaned up like pros. They went above and beyond in the prepping of the walls. They were exceptional. They did not, in my opinion - and for the amount charged, scrape and sand the trim adequately enough. but this is a very minor complaint, if i use them in the future, i will be more clear about the job i need, beforehand.
Description of Work: Hired them to paint my interior kitchen and dining room, including windows. They scraped, sanded, skimmed the walls, re-build corners and prepped as well as providing the paint.

It went very well: I got a timely estimate, good price, excellent service and the house looks great. This was a small job to a painting company but it is always a big job to the homeowner--and I was treated as though my job was just as important as one that is ten times as big. I appreciated this. The painters knew their stuff and were both fast and competent. They explained about things they were doing, which I also appreciated.

We have never had painters in our house before. They did a great job. Special thanks to Angel, He was on the job all 3 days and was very professional. I would with out question hire them again. Probably within the next year or so.
Description of Work: Hands on painters did some interior painting for us. We have lived in our home for 10 yrs. The kids are grown and we decided it was time to paint and fix some walls. They did the main entrance to our home including the 2nd floor and kitchen. Along with some minor dry wall repair. The job took 3 days and came out great. Also they did all trim and doors in those areas.

I got three estimates and theirs was the most expensive, but I trusted Jonathan to do the best job based on how he presented himself, and how he explained the process. I let him know how the estimates came in and we compared them together and he came down some to win my business. He was very prompt with return calls and very responsive. The woman who answers the phone, Julia, is very pleasant and customer service oriented. They were able to schedule us pretty quickly and then Alex took over the communication. I had some questions as the job was in progress, and it seemed that the return calls took longer once the job was in process as compared to before. Jonathan did not return calls after the job was in progress, but I assume that is because he was out of the loop once Alex was assigned our job. Once I had to email some instructions because I couldn't reach anyone, and I didn't get any confirmation that they got the message until I got home that evening and found that the work had in fact been done according to instructions. That was the only issue I had, and in my opinion it was very minor. The work was exceptional. Seeing the process made me very impressed and confident that they cut no corners in prep. Sanding and scraping and power washing as appropriate. They kept the area neat and clean, and kept things tidy and tucked away in the evenings while the job was in process. Our beautiful home is even more beautiful now! We are extremely pleased with the result and would use them again. I plan some interior painting over the winter and will be sure that I use them to do the job.
Description of Work: They, powerwashed, scraped and sanded and then painted our cedar shingle house, trim, porch deck, steps, railing and door. They also painted garage trim, and did a minor repair on sagging porch railing. They removed all old utility wire clips and unused hardware before painting.

it went well, but there was a misunderstanding on the original estimate. The owner asked if we wanted the inside of the windows painted, and we said no because we thought he meant the inside surrounding the windows. He then gave us an estimate of $2400. But what he apparently meant was the litte pieces of wood between the panes ( our windows have 6 panes per window.) As the crew was about to start, An additional cost was quoted of $1800 for 15 windows

They were very good. They were really punctual and detail oriented, and I found them to be very honest. Their prices are quite fair, and they are smart about offering discounts for subsequent work. I really enjoyed working with them, and thought they were very nice and good businessmen.
