It did not start out well. I took a day off (monday) to have the work done. They were to show up around 9:30. When they weren't there at 10:10, I called and was told that I was not on the schedule for that day. The woman I spoke to remembered our conversation, but had failed to put us on the schedule. There really wasn't anything they could do since everyone was already on other jobs, and I was out a day at work. My husband had to take off on Friday for them to come and do the work. If I had not paid for an Angie's List coupon, I would have been done with them, but I was not going to be out the money as well as the day off work. All and all, I was pleased with the work, but it did not leave a positive impression.
Description of Work: Sheet rock was replaced in a section of my laundry room ceiling. My husband was pleased with the work. They also painted the trim in one of my bedrooms and did a nice job.

It went extremely well. We took advantage of a coupon they offered through Angie's List--three hours of work for $99. One of the owners came out within a few days to take a look at the problem. We scheduled the work to be done a few weeks after that. On the day the work was done, another of the owners came to start the worker off, making sure both he and I knew what was going on. It ended up taking another hour, but that was competely understandable--it takes a while for everything to be dry and ready for the next part of the job. The worker was very thorough and careful--he did an excellent job! Also, he was very careful to clean up after himself, which I appreciated. It was an excellent experience!
Description of Work: The company fixed a moldy spot on the ceiling (from a leaking roof). The worker cut out the moldy drywall, put in new drywall, and then painted over where he'd worked.

He was on-time, pleasant, amenable to any reasonable request. His supervisor was here at the beginning to oversee and assist. I plan to use them again to hang more shades I have ordered.
Description of Work: This was an Angie's List Big Deal coupon for three hours of drywall work or handyman services. I added on one more hour at $38.00. The servicer installed five sets of cellular shades on windows, took down a cracked mirror in a bathroom and hung a large replacement mirror. He also moved around a few heavy boxes and pulled my gas grill up to the upper-level deck.

They were good, punctual, professional and respectful, and cleaned up everything. The price of $200 for 6 hours of work was very good. The workmanship was very good, and they met my expectations. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.
Description of Work: I used Hands on Painters to take down the old closet system and install a new closet system. They did drywall repair by patching some holes that I had and they fixed my curtains.
I am thrilled with HOP. The men were courteous, clean, and professional. They arrived on time everyday and left at 4pm after cleaning up leaving my home as best they could. They asked if I wanted them to work on Saturday to keep the job going faster and I said "yes", and they did. They came prepared with everything they needed, I never saw them sit down or take a break. They were amongst the hardest workers I have ever seen and their painting was flawless. There is not one place they need to come back and touch up. For the amount of work it took to get my living room and dining room in shape I absolutely got my moneys worth and then some. I can recommend this company without any reservation whatsoever. I plan on having them re-paint my entire home over the next year, room by room. What an Angie's list find.
Description of Work: I initially purchased the $99 special to have a small 1/2 wall built in cabinet removed between my living room and dining room. This job then required drywall installation, plastering, sanding, painting and re-installation of chair rail, floor moulding and quarter round. A wonderful and talented painter, Felize, was sent to my home at the appointed time. He covered ALL of the funiture, put plastic in the doorways to stop plaster dust from spreading to the rest of my home and proceeded to remove the 1/2 wall in the 3 hours. He did such a great job you would never know that anything had ever been there but a beautiful, straight wall. I thought this was the end. After my husband saw the high quality, reasonably priced work HANDS ON PAINTERS provided we decided to continue and have the entire 1/2 wall taken out (a huge amount of work as it was built in three layers, including built-in electricity which was removed by an HOP electrician). The mouldings had to be reworked from what was taken down as they were no longer available and a crackerjack woodworker, Jose, was sent over to deal with all of the little details to make everything look seamless. Alex, the boss, made sure to get me exactly the color paint I wanted, which was an exact match to a color in my draperies and he had to go to more than one shop to do this. The painting then commenced after every little detail was just so. And, these men are artists. My home is 140+ years old and my living and dining rooms are absolutely beautiful. The work is better than I ever could have dreamed, no tape, just hand brushing.

I bought the angies list big deal for $200 (6 hrs) and 2 additional hours were reasonably charged when the work took more time than I had originally purchased. The company is easy to schedule with. They called the day before to be certain that they would bring the right equipment. Jose was prompt, hardworking, and did an excellent job with the drywall repair and the painting. thank you!

HOP consulted with us on the work to be done (very helpful), and provided a thorough estimate. The team painted the full interior of the house (110 years old), full basement floor, and nearly all basement walls. Midway through work being done by a separate contractor to install central A/C, HOP offered an estimate for closing in newly-added ductwork in a foyer and upstairs bedroom, and finishing the areas with matching trim. The work and services were timely, very professional, and responsive. The team cleaned up after itself daily. Communication with the group was clear and reliable.
Description of Work: painted the full interior of the house (110-year old Baltimore row house; to include kitchen, foyer (above and below wainscotting), front parlor, hallway, 3 bedrooms, one den, two bathrooms painted full basement floor painted nearly all basement walls closed in ductwork with drywall (ductwork had been newly-added for central A/C in foyer and den) and finished the areas with matching wood trim painted interior walls of antique built-in wall units (original to house)
They did a fine job with everything. I was very pleased with the labor of the people who came out, and the planning by the owner. I did have an initial problem with the product they used, Sicken, that they were using on my deck but they did come back and make it right. I would not use that product as a 2nd coat over a sealer or a stain on the deck unless it was removed first. He resolved all issues to satisfaction, and did an adjustment for me to account for what I had as an issue. At the end of the day, I was happy with what they did.
Description of Work: They did some small repair and interior painting. They redid 2 ceilings where I had some electrical work done. They repainted a staircase railing. They also did some work on bathroom caulking and repaired some towel racks. They powerwashed and restained my deck.

Jonathan came out to evaluate the project and write an estimate. He arrived early, which I thought was impressive and didn't take much of my time. Thersa, the office manager, kept in constant contact with me and is very professional and easy to work with. On the day work was scheduled the employee showed up on time, worked efficiently and cleaned up very well. I wasn't sure what to expect as far as the repairs were concerned. It definitely turned out better than expected and it wasn't an easy job since I have a textured ceiling and the previous owners did not leave any of the supplies. He also had to repaint the ceiling and you can barely tell the difference in colors between the repainted one and the others in my house. This company is very efficient and doesn't waste your time. They get the estimate right out to you and schedule the work very quickly. The prices are also very competitive. I would definitely recommend them and use them again in the future.

Based on their excellent reviews, I used Hands On Painter's website to request a quote. They responded promptly the next day with a phone call letting me know they'd provide a quote when they had an estimator in the area. Two weeks later, I had not heard or received anything from them. I tried their website again asking if they had an ETA for the estimate. Five weeks later, I still have not heard from them. Hands On was very disappointing.

We had a tight budget and Hands On provided a very detailed estimate from which we were able to pick and choose what we wanted done. There was always an "in-charge" to whom we could go if we had questions or requests (such as rehooking the shutters against the house when they were done). They did a beautiful job and cleaned up marvelously when they were done.

Alex was prompt and courteous. Unfortunately I felt the jpb was not professional. I asked that the shutters be painted, but wanted those that were working to continue to work after painting. They were painted in such a way that no care was taken to assure they would continue to work. They were painted in place and stuck shut. They did not cover the hardware on the cabinets and painted right over the brass hinges. The door to the cabinet had been shut while the paint was still wet, and so it was stuck when I tried to open it, and ripped off some of the new paint. I asked for them to return to correct these things, but this was not done to my satisfaction. The job generally did not look professional. Even though I had said not to do a meticulous job, I still expected a better job for the price charged.. Because they id have good recommendations, I would just be sure you are clear at the outset what you want them to do with doorknobs, hinges, leaving doors open to dry, etc.
Description of Work: I needed extensive painting done in an old house to prepare for sale. Although I explained that I did not need every detail cared for, I wanted it to look good for prospective buyers. I was given a price that I thought was high, but the firm had excellent ratings and I was in a hurry. The job entailed paintng two very large rooms, stairs, shutters, old wooden built in cupboards, floorboards, etc.

I just spent 20 minutes writing a detailed report and when I went to delete a sentence the entire report was deleted - I'm still sitting here saying "you're kidding me, you've got to be kidding me" over and over again. Don't try to delete sentences when you're writing a report here! My first version of this was better ... Bottom line: Hands On Painters needs to work on communication with its customers during a project; had they just communicated with me, I could have avoided losing rental income and much heartburn. Their quote was much lower than anyone else's (all the rest were highway robbery, unbelievable - I have years of painting experience and just can't physically do it anymore) and it included the paint and supplies (no one else's did). They were at all times courteous and provided a quote very promptly. The paint job was streaky in places - but I think it was because they stuck to one coat where possible to keep the price lower. It was not unacceptably streaky for a rental unit. Job was not finished when promised so I had to rearrange other services and push back the move-in date. There was a lot of paint splattered on the carpet which was not cleaned up - the painter showed up *unannounced* in the AM to clean it after I called to complain about it the night before - but I was getting ready for work and did not have time to deal with it and was late to work. The tenant moved in later that morning. It took me two weeks of emailing to finally get someone from Hands On to drop off a cleaning solution that I can use myself to try to get the paint splatters off the carpet (which was new, by the way) after this tenant moves out. So overall, they were very nice, made a very ill-advised attempt to clean up the mess they made (white paint on tan carpet - how could he miss it? He didn't miss all of it - some was smeared in swirl patterns into the carpet from him wiping at it) which just made me late to work, and overall the project just suffered from lack of communication on their part. I would hire them again, however, but just plan for it to take longer than they say it will and I would inspect the carpet and floors carefully and allow time for them to correct these things before a move-in is scheduled. And everyone there is really very very nice and competent. I think had I had time to point out the streaky areas, he would have come back and corrected them. I think they honestly will fix any problems - again, it was bad communication and time issues that mostly got in the way. And not starting early in the morning as promised I believe led to the job not being finished on time.
Description of Work: Painting the interior of a 432 sq. ft. apartment to prep it for rental. Very minor spackling and drywall. All one color (stock white) with semi-gloss in kitchen and bath, satin other rooms. Trim, ceiling, doors - all one color.

I went with Hands on Painter because they received good reviews on Angieslist, were voted best in Baltimore, and Jonathan, the owner, sounded very knowledgeable and easy to work with. I had received lower bids, but I thought that this company would do the best job. Boy was I wrong. The first problem that I noticed is that there was no communication--they didn't call me when they left each day to let me know the progress on their work. I didn't know that they had considered the job done until I called one of the owners with my concerns about the job thus far and was told that they were mostly finished except for a cover they needed to bring over. At that point, when they considered themselves done, there were seams showing, nails that hadn't been covered, the crookedest window you have ever seen, and plaster everywhere. Plus, they hadn't cut out the holes for the electrical outlets or the recessed lights properly--so those were a mess. I've had a lot of contractors work on my house and usually they leave the job neat, this is the first company I have hired that seemed to have no concern for being clean. There was plaster on many of the light bulbs, in the electrical outlets, on the wood trim. I spent the week picking up drywall screws from the floor. Even after I told the owner that I was planning on keeping the carpet, the workers got primer and plaster on several areas of the flooring. The job itself wasn't done well. The windows were probably the worst part of the job. One of the windows was done so that the bottom of the window was an inch wider than the top. Also, it wasn't level--one side of the bottom is nearly an inch lower than the other. The second window wasn't nearly as bad, but even still looked unprofessional. The electrical outlets were not cut out properly so as a result, the outlets did not come out enough from the wall to meet with the plate covers. I had to cut the outlets from underneath the drywall and pull them out so that the plates would fit over them, and chip away lumps of plaster. The holes for the recessed lights were cut out of the drywall in the same unprofessional way. Several of the holes were cut so large the hole showed when the covers were put on. I complained to the owner and the next week he sent back a crew who fixed some of the problems, but not all of them. The crews' method of fixing the problems with the recessed lights was to glop on even more plaster which just left the ceiling looking lumpy. Instead of cutting the drywall around the window out and fixing it properly, they slapped on another piece of drywall which made the window look even worse. Again, I complained to the owners. A week later, both owners came out to look at the problems. I was told excuses like, "Drywall is a messy job" and "It is common to come back two or three times to fix mistakes from drywalling." After all of this, the owners agreed to send someone over to fix things again. This time, they took me seriously. An experienced drywaller and one of the owners worked most of a day fixing all of the mistakes. They even wiped the plaster off of the light bulbs. But, still some of the original mistakes could not be fixed. The electrical outlets were cut out wrong. The window is still somewhat crooked. But all around, the job is more livable than it was originally. The final time the two came to fix everything, they seemed very friendly and willing to do a good job. I don't know if the first two times, they just sent me an inexperienced crew or if they were just at that point trying to make sure I would pay them. All in all, it was a very frustrating experience. This company might be great painters, but I would not recommend to anyone to hire this company for drywall.
Description of Work: I hired Hands on Painters to drywall two walls in my basement and drywall the basement ceiling. They were to mud, sand, and prime so that the walls and ceiling were paint ready.

Response from Hands On Painters Inc
This is one of those jobs you wish one could start from the beginning all over again. Our communication was not on its "A" game, daily dialogue and follow up was not consistent. We won the job after a price reduction to remain competitive and in hind site that was our first mistake. Tight pricing puts pressure on my painters that make them rush. Our clients were running there basement renovation with out a professional general contractor so responsibility between subs where not very clear (i.e. framing around windows and keeping everything square). We are not sure who did the electric on the project but outlets were not set correctly for standard 1/2 inch drywall installation. The client showed me a small pile of about7 to 10 screws she found on the floor after we pulled out over 100 of old screws from the old framing and installed about 150 new screws. The clients wanted money back so another sub could fix some of the defects. We agreed on splitting the difference after I suggested pulling down the drywall to see if it was their subs framing or our drywall that was crooked. I felt we made every effort to right this situation and sincerely apologize for our involvement for any of the frustration we caused.

All I can say is - I'm going to have to hold back to keep from gushing. This was a stress free experience beyond expectations from start to finish. Owner Jonathan did estimate- He was prompt, personable, knowledgeable, and provided tips on ways I could save by doing simple tasks myself. RIch came right on time to do the work and impressed my husband and myself with his warm, courteous manner combined with high quality craftsmanship, attention to detail and responsible cleanup afterward. He even took the trash with him. The work was completed without delay and when asked about including another job - having a hole cut for a cat door, Rich included this at a reasonable price. This is the kind of guy who helps carry in your groceries, If only he could be cloned. I knew I would gush...but it is true. I am bringing him back to put shelves in my kitchen.
Description of Work: paint bathroom, repair nail holes, prep wall to cover stenciling in dark color, paint trim, ceiling and door, cut hole in credenza for sink, cut cat entrance/exit in door, there may be more I am not remembering.
They are excellent and we call them quite often on many different job. They charge $45 an hour. They are always good and we always call them back. They give discounted rates to repeat customers.
Description of Work: We use them for not just painting but other work around the home as well. We had them put in some interior roofing in our basement on their last visit. They also did a little bathroom work at the same time frame. They have also done some wall repairs after a frozen pipe burst. We've had variety of work done by them over the last few years. They have also power washed and re-stained our deck, done interior painting and light carpentry work.
