It went very well. It was more of a job than I thought it would be, and he really worked hard. Peter Krug, the owner's son or grandson, was the one doing the work. He was very honest and friendly.
Description of Work: I have a wrought iron railing that broke off into some brick. They dug it out, repaired the rail, and re-set it in cement.

My house was built in 1924 and has fairly steep and slightly uneven field stone steps. The steps are beautiful and have never had a railing of any sort. Though friends and family members complained to me about the lack of a railing I put off getting one for years as I really liked the plain look of the steps. My view changed when an elderly family member slipped and nearly fell down those beautiful stone steps. I thought having a railing installed would be a simple process, but it wasn't at all. One highly recommended company asked me to e-mail photos of the steps, which I did, and never got back to me even though I also left several phone messages. I spoke with several other companies and explained that I wanted a very simple slightly curved railing with just three posts. (From online research I learned that that is called a skeleton railing and because I also have stone knee walls on both sides of my steps it would meet the city code safety requirements.) The only reason I didn't call Peter Krug initially was because I thought that since he runs the oldest continuously operating ironworks in the United States his prices would be out of reach for me. I was wrong. Wrought iron work is fairly expensive due to the nature of the work and material, but Peter Krug's estimate was quite reasonable. The actual installation of the railing turned out to be more complicated than expected due to the complexity of drilling through old and thick field stones placed nearly 100 years ago and a temporary equipment failure, but Peter and his crew found a way to get it done in a timely manner. No stones were cracked or broken and the railing is exactly what I wanted. Functional, simple, minimal, beautiful, and one of a kind. I highly recommend G. Krug & Son.

All went well. Work done in a reasonable time frame (we were not in a hurry). 3 weeks later a delivery truck crashed into the top railing requiring a re-do. We asked Peter Krug to shorten that railing down one step to decrease the possibility of it happening again. He removed the railing (16 steps worth) and shortened it and repaired/installed it again. We are very satisfied with the result. We picked Krug because of his company's reputation. (cost of repair not included in above).
Description of Work: Removed old railings and installed 4 separate new railings along 40 steps outside, drilling into stone and doing the related mortaring. .

The company was recommended to my by neighbors who had a iron railing installed on their Baltimore row home. I called in the afternoon and Mr. Krug swung by the house on the way to work the morning after I called them to do an estimate and perform a rough sketch of the work. After I approved the estimate, which was a littler higher than I anticipated, he estimated a few weeks to complete the work. He emailed a very detailed drawing the next day. After I approved the sketch they actually had it fabricated from scratch and installed a week later. The newly created iron railing is an excellent match to the historic fence and well worth the price. The experience was positive from beginning to end.
Description of Work: Created an iron railing to match a 100 year old wrought iron fence.

I was really happy with the way it went. They seemed very knowledgeable. He would not use wrought iron because it is too expensive. They have a beautiful website so I have no doubt they will do a good job. The person that answered the phone was very knowledgeable. This is a family business in operation since 1810. I just felt very comfortable with everything about it.
Description of Work: They came and did an estimate ($4730). We want an extension of an existing fence and a double gate.
