Soon after they began, they told me they would need to do a lot of remedial work on a time and materials basis (this was clearly stated in the contract). Five roof joists would need to be replaced, some masonry repairs to the side wall were necessary to support the joists (bricks on top of the wall could be picked up by hand). One day I had seven crew members (three masonry people, two roofers, and a carpenter). Over the 4.5 days, they tore off six layers of roofing (including what was likely the original tin roof over a portion of the area), rejoisted and repaired the side brick wall in the worst section, insulated the entire area, redecked the roof, applied the foam core material, the EPDM roofing material, and reflashed the entire area and redid the gutter. They answered any questions I had along the way as best they could (I was concerned about the final cost and wanted lots of updates on that). The original estimate was only about half of the eventual cost, though much of the extra work they needed to do could not be known at the time of estimate, since the damage was hidden. I had between two and seven team members there on each day. They thoroughly cleaned the whole area at the end of the job, and did a significant amount of clean up each day. They hauled away a dump truck worth of old material. I was very pleased with the workmanship. They're not cheap, but I believe you get what you pay for in terms of quality and durability of the work. Ironically it began to rain just as they had finished the main part of the work, but I had nothing to worry about.

It was excellent and they are a great company

A high quality job, executed by professionals from start to finish with customer service second to none. The job was done right, on time, at a fair price. A certificate of liability insurance arrived in my mailbox just after the contract was signed, without my asking, and before the salesman's thank you card. The crew arrived early on a Monday morning to ensure the job was complete before the next rain storm rolled in later that afternoon and two hours or more ahead of the port-a- john. The roofing crew was properly attired- no bare chests; there was no foul language or loud music. The work site was properly cleared of all debris and nails. New "cooper" flashing now gleams in the sunlight against beautiful black fiberglass shingles and white gutters leading a neighbor to ask, "When did they start using cooper"?

They did a good job. Its really expensive. They did a beautiful job, its beautifully done. They are very responsive. They are very professional. They did a really good quality job. They did what they said. The roof looks great. I have gotten a lot of compliments on it.

It was fine. I obtained at least 10 bids and their pricing was competitive. I really wanted to use Fick because they have a track record of doing excellent work on commercial and residential structures. I haven't had a single issue with the roof since installation.

On the work that was done, Fick Brothers did a good job repairing the historical mansard for our house. That said, they were very expensive, used under-handed sales tactics, and did not seem knowledgeable about historical masonry. After we first met with the sales person, they tried to pressure us into signing a contract on the spot by offering you a made-up discount so that you don't have time to re-consider. Of course, we didn't sign it, and this seemed shady to us for a reputable company. They also told my wife that she "had to sign" an invoice on the spot before they continued work - even though they did not give it to us to review beforehand. Our contract required them to submit any additional expenses over $500 to us for pre-approval, but they instead incurred $3,000 of added costs without clearing it with us first, so I think that is why they told her to sign it when I wasn't home. They also have terrible, one-sided terms in their form contract that are not very consumer-friendly - make sure you read it carefully! We had to go back and forth on it a few times before we finalized terms. As for the masonry, we have an old house with soft bricks set in a lime-based mortar. Our home inspector and several other masons told us not to use Portland cement-based mortars, as this would damage the structural integrity of the house. Fick Brothers sent us a quote for re-pointing that used Portland cement. When I spoke to their mason about this, they said that's what they always used, and didn't seem to have any knowledge or experience in lime-based mortars. They said it would triple the cost if we wanted to use a lime-based mortar. We didn't feel confident in their ability to do the masonry, so we went with a different contractor. In sum, I think they do quality roofing work, but do not use them for masonry. Also be aware that you are paying a higher price for a quality product. They also use high-end materials (copper instead of aluminum, etc.), which really drives up the price. I do wish they'd re-think their sales tactics and become more customer-focused, but otherwise we would recommend them to others for roofing.

The repair was scheduled promptly and accomplished on schedule. I am a long-term customer with an annual service roof service contract and have used Fick exclusively for the past ten or twelve years. The crew made two visits: first, to assess the damage from ice and snow and second, to do the repair. I was a little disappointed that a rot issue identified during the first visit was not addressed when the new gutter was installed. This may have been miscommunication, but I think I should have been consulted about whether to also repair the rot at the time of the second visit. Instead, the crew again pointed out the existence of the rot after completing the installation. The rot can be repaired without removing the gutter, I believe, and it will involve a significant additional amount of work and expense (removing a line of slate and replacing wood decking/underlayment). Still, I would like to have had the option to do that work at the time of the gutter replacement. Otherwise, I have no complaint about the quality of the work or the timeliness or the cost. I will continue to use Fick because they do good work at a fair price.

Fick Bros was recommended to me as the "Gucci Roofers", in other words, the best in Baltimore, but also the most expensive. The work they did solved leaks that had been persistent and mysterious for decades, and my house is now leak-free for the first time since I moved in in 1992. The work was extremely expensive, but worth it in my opinion because the quality of the workmanship is as high as it could possibly be. I had them do everything according to their specifications that would allow them to guarantee the job. Invariably this cost more, but as I said my house is leak-free and completely dry for the first time in decades. I cannot recommend them highly enough. If you can afford them, and are willing to let them tell you what needs to be done to do the job right and they pay for them to do what they recommend, by all means hire them. The only person I know who has had issues with the outcome of their work had them cut corners to save money.

Could not have gone better. The roofers were very professional, communicative, and thorough. The work area was always clean at the end of the day, they stuck to the schedule, were there every day and completed the work on time. The work was first rate, you get what you pay for. We had looked at 5 other roofers (some of whom were much cheaper) and settled on Fick, best decision we made, highly recommend.

Quality of job was great. Their workpeople are professional and courteous. It was very hard to get them to set a date for the project; we ended up with much delay. And they are very, very expensive.

The work was done very well and in a timely fashion - we were pleased with that aspect of the job. Our only issue was that the salesman promised a small payment for each week that we allowed their sign to be placed in our yard; collecting the money after the fact was a bit difficult but was sorted out in the end. We would definitely recommend them.

Provider was on time and very professional. They cleaned up the area and removed all debris. I would call Fick Bros. again for any window or door work.

The new roof looks good and enhances the overall appearance of our house. We would get them to quote on the replacement of the aluminum siding when we decide to do this project.

There were leaks in both chimneys resulting in interior leaks and, typically, leaks are hard to track down. It took several visits over the course of several months with a number of different solutions tried, but eventually the problems were solved. Another company had unsuccessfully attempted to do the repair previously. It has not been inexpensive, but at least there don't seem to be any more leaks.

There was a 2 person team and both men went up on the roof. They removed and replaced several tiles and complete the work in under 1 hour. They noted that the roof is in poor shape and should be replaced and suggested that I get multiple estimates for the service.

They were very helpful. As far I know there is no leaks. There was an issue with a gutter but they came right out and fixed it.

the estimate was astounding. Felt it was because I was in an what is considered an upscale neighborhood and an elderly lady, I would just accept this incredible estimate. Presented me with a very elaborate proposal - many pages and photos - which was a very expensive and high powered presentation for the person that they thought I was - a not too smart but wealthy old lady.

Initially I had a hard time getting in touch with someone to give me a quote. Once I was able to speak to someone, he gave me every option I had and the cost/benefit to each which was very helpful. Most other companies would not give me a quote over the phone and charged a fee just to come look. I knew I would use Fick regardless of price because of this. To me, that is great customer service. I had an appointment time between 9-11am and I had to leave my house at 11 but left them a note. They arrived at 11:15, did the work quickly (I know this because I was charged for hourly labor + materials) and neatly. We have had no water leaking issues since. We were very happy with this company and will definitely use again in the future.

They took before and after pictures, which was very helpful. They also provided me with photos of areas that will eventually need to be worked on, including substandard work by other providers.

They did what they agreed to do. I told them I thought they should have replaced 1 more tile, and they came back promptly and did it, which was probably not very convenient for them! I was very satisfied and would use them again.

They were punctual, very organized, cleaned up great each evening and at the end of the job. The repairs are unnoticeable and wonderfully done - when they were done, it was like nothing had been there. When they unexpectedly found more hidden damage than initially predicted, they carefully showed us and explained options and costs, and got our approval to proceed. These folks are clearly not the cheapest roofers out there, but they do quality work in a very professional manner, and it is worth dealing with them.

We are very pleased with Fick's work to replace the vent pipe collars, bathroom vent cover, reseal the roof peak, and replace a few broken slates. We weren't expecting the work to be done until after the new year, but they were able to get our work done well before Christmas. The estimator work worked with, Walt, was very friendly, responsive, and accomodating. Although the work is pricier than other options, the quality of workmanship is excellent and there is a two-year workmanship guarantee.

Fick Brothers were hired to replaced 1 worn out vent stack flange on our townhouse roof (since sold). Their price was pretty typical, but came in a bit cheaper than some of the others whom I had contacted. In talking with the customer rep, I explained what I needed done and that the flange had to be replaced. They did mention they would normally do estimates, but for the size and scope of this job it wouldn't be necessary to come out and inspect. An appointment was setup and they arrived on time with two guys to perform the work. They had to use a couple of ladders to get up on the third story townhouse roof, but I told them to put one ladder on our deck to make it easier. They were very careful in moving their ladders up and down as to not damage the house or deck railing. The job was done after 1hr and in the process they replaced the worn out vent stack flange, took pictures of the old damaged one, and managed to save the shingles on the roof during the replacement.

The Fick Bros. representative said that according to company policy both people named on the deed (which he had looked up before he arrived) had to sign the contract, no exceptions. My husband, who is also on the deed, doesn't live in the state, and does not contribute to the home. I have a six-figure income and excellent credit, but that didn't matter. He said this was generally a requirement for anyone doing work on a home; however, I have never run into this in my life, and I'm 64 years old. What a terrible waste of my time, and what a shoddy way to run a business.

TERRIBLE!! They gave me an estimate to repair our slate roof in March 2010. It seemed reasonable since we had the slates repaired the previous spring. The repairs were done in December 2010 after the insurance company approved all of the changes. They kept raising the price because more of the slates needed to be repaired. Since the repair price was rising so quickly the insurance company sent out an engineer. The engineer stated that they were marking slates to be repaired that were in good shape. The insurance company cut them off. Fick Brothers stated that when the gave the estimate in March it was just approximate because there was still snow on the roof! That was not the case, because I walked around with the estimator and I knew there was no snow on the roof. We ended up throwing all of the money in the trash can when we got another roofing company to come in and replace our entire roof.
