Description of Work: They carpeted the entire upstairs and staircase of our rowhouse (~500 sq ft). The carpet seems the same as was selected during the buying process and it was installed fairly well. The installation took much longer than we were told (told 3-4 hrs, took 7 hrs). | |Somewhat happy with the purchase and would recommend, with one big caveat: their sales approach is quite sketchy. As many others have stated, the salesmen will just recommend the highest priced samples and will give you a hugely inflated quote. We knew this going in, so when the salesman gave us a ridiculous first quote (~2000 is my best recollection), we let him know that we had already obtained quotes from other companies for much lower. Automatically, he called an "associate" and magically got the price decreased by over $500. In the end, we ended up getting a fair price for decent quality, but be sure to go into the sales appt. prepared.

Description of Work: Floors look great and installers were very nice but price was not the actual price I had to say no to get a lower price. Installers were late but they did call. Installers put the wrong transition piece and knew it was wrong but did not say anything nor did they offer to come back. I had to call and complain.

However, the ceramic tiles which were installed had noticable chips in the edges, which I noted AFTER the installation was completed!!! |No offer was made to adjust the final price. Nothing! |I would only recommend this company for hardwood flooring. NOT for ceramic tile installation. Sloppy work!"

Description of Work: Estimate was the highest of the three I called. Salesman was prompt but very pushy. Second time my family has called these folks, same experience both times. I didn't use them nor did my brother.

Description of Work: We contacted Empire today to get a quote for carpet installation for upstairs. They are responsive in returning the call to schedule an appointment. The guy who measured the space was professional enough. What I don't like is that they wanted us to deposit $50 at the time they measure the place and schedule an installation right away. Their reason was that they can't take orders on line or over the phone and therefore, if we want to schedule something with them, we need to do it right then right now. They said that we can cancel the appointment anytime and they will refund us the money. Truth to be told, we decided to go with another local company because the price they offered was way better. Something like 30% cheaper. I called Empire today to cancel the appointment. I waited on the phone for a while, not too bad. I was able to talk to someone and cancel the appointment. Couple of days later, I called to make sure that the appointment was indeed cancelled. It turned out that it wasn't cancelled at all. I told them that I was given a cancellation number which they said they didn't know why it wasn't in their system and offered to cancel the appointment again. This time they offered a price match. I told them no since I like to give business to people who gave me the best price the first time, not the one who is trying to match the price. So they canceled the order and gave me a different cancellation number. They told me I should receive my refund within 15 days. We shall see. My conclusion - use a local firm. They are more responsive and a lot cheaper than Empire Today. Plus, you are supporting your own local economy, rather than a big nationwide firm.

Description of Work: Empire came for an estimate on carpeting our basement. They gave us a price and, when we hesitated, pulled the car salesman trick of calling the manager to see if he had an in stock special. Awful. We went elsewhere.

Description of Work: The price and the quality of the workmanship was excellent. When we ran into some issues of how the flooring was going to go under the doors. The head installer came up with a solution that worked great.

Description of Work: Sales rep was prompt, very curteous, and called manager twice for lower price. We had an estimate from Nat Floors Direct that beat Empire's first price so Empire matched Nat's price. We choose Empire based on reviews we read. On day of installation the crew leader called 30 minutes before arrival. All the guys were very friendly and respectful of our house and furniture. They shuffled bebroom furniture several time to gain a bare room. They padded and carpeted four rooms and all large closets and a common landing. I observed their results as they progressed. The finished work was excellent without flaws. If you're in Annapolis area ask for installer M. Lopez - he is a jewel.

Description of Work: Empire doesn't know how to measure correctly, and they have done a sloppy job of installing our carpet runner on the stairwell. Warning: they have to measure the stairwell and do the binding at the factory (no onsite binding machines). I am very very unhappy and have had them replace the stairwell runner twice now and it still looks unprofessional.

Description of Work: The person coming out to do the estimate was late because she got lost. She was really disorganized and only brought me one sample to look at. After all that, she didn't call with a quote - I had to call her. The price was ok, but I was unimpressed with the service so I decided to go with a different company.
