It was not managed well. They gave me the estimate, but they gave me a huge window of time as to when they would come (8 hours), and they didn't even come until a half-hour after the window had passed. Then we rescheduled and they didn't come. We scheduled again and finally got them there (they came late again). The carpet started coming off the floor a month after it was installed. Poor customer service.
Description of Work: They installed wall-to-wall carpeting up a staircase and in a hallway.

Salesperson came, right on time, on a Saturday morning. Went to the 2 rooms and chose the style and color we wanted based on samples he had. Told us our stairway/hall carpet was in good condition and didn't need to be replaced yet. Gave us his personal card/# in-case we had any problems with installation, which we didn't. Received a call to confirm day before installation. Installers came on time, removed old carpet and installed new without any troubles. They vacuumed using their own vacuums. Inspector came by same day to give stamp of approval. Carpet looks great. Cost approximately $4/sq. ft. for everything since we did 2 rooms at the same time. They followed up with a service call to ensure our satisfaction.
Description of Work: Removed old carpeting and installed new padding and carpet in 2 bedrooms.

I did not use Empire, because their cost was so high compared to others, and their wood selection was very limited. They did offer comprehensive installation and quick turnaround.

The sales rep showed up on time, measured the area I am interested in carpeting and then proceeded to tell me that the subgrade carpet was priced at 42.50 a yard, further, he quoted me 90 yards. Subsequent measurements have come in at the correct amount of 64 yards. Obviously, the sales rep was after a large commission and therefore lost the sale.

Completely unprofessional and with a high pressure sales tactic, an Empire salesman came in and tried to force Oak floors down my throat. Two days later and for 9,000 dollars LESS than what Empire quoted, I bought my floors from LUX floors in Fairfax. They have been highly professional so far and will be installing floors for me starting tomorrow. I will write another statement letting you know how they are once their work is completed.

The whole process was a nightmare after they got a deposit. Job was put off a few days. Then Empire canceled our carpet install, for some reason still unknown. Long story short. If we weren't going away on vacation that weekend we would have canceled the whole job with them. They wanted to give us $50 for our troubles. Still to this day the salesman still has YET to return a phone call. Management has not called. I really believe that they do not care about the customer. Only about getting your money.
Description of Work: They carpeted the stairs and two bedrooms upstairs.

I was highly disappointed by the extreme lack of courtesy shown by this company. No one came to do the estimate, and no one even bothered to contact me and tell me they would be late or to cancel the visit. I will not deal with them again.
Description of Work: I called for one of their free estimates. It was scheduled to be between 9 and 11 AM Tuesday morning. At 11:00, I called the 800 number to see what was going on since no one had contacted and no one showed up.

We had a problem at the beginning because the original salesperson would not return our calls when we attempted to schedule the work. We called the parent company who sent out another one which meant we had to go through measuring and waiting for the estimate again. The rest of the experience was pretty good. We were given a realistic estimate on the amount of time it would take to get the windows in the warehouse. The installation went smoothly and the windows are great, especially the bay. The workers didn't leave the work areas as clean as I would have liked but it wouldn't stop me from using them again.
Description of Work: Replaced seven standard sized windows and one small bathroom window. Replaced picture window with a bay window.

The salesman was helpful but used typical "in home sales strategies. When we told him that we werent ready to make a decision on the spot, he lowered his price by 20%. At that new price, I feel like we got a quality product at a reasonable price. The installation came in a few days and we have been very happy so far. I would recommend them but be sure to negotiate to get the best price.

Sales representative was professional, on time, gave us prices on several grades of carpet, gave us time to decide on style and color. Installation team was on time for scheduled appointment. Called to let us know they were on their way, professional, efficient, cleaned up well. This was our third time using Empire. We previously ordered carpet and laminate. Customer service rep called to check on satisfaction the next day. Were very happy with their service. We went with a high grade of carpet.
Description of Work: Carpet on the stairs, the hall, three bedrooms and the closets. Installers moved all furniture themselves during installation and replaced back in position when done. Hauled away old carpet and trash upon completion.

First representative missed two appointments and never called. Second representative showed up and we did place order (to be installed in a month). However, she was incredibly rude and refused to put herself out by showing us more than a couple of samples. We asked to see more, and she refused to go out to her car to get more samples. If it wasn't for the price we got I would have thrown her out of the house.

The representative was nice and polite, but the estimate he gave was $4,000 more expensive than the next lowest estimate I got. He also told me that he personally was a house flipper. He said that what he'd do to improve my house is knock out the one wall to expand my kitchen, which I thought was an odd comment given that I had him come to give me an estimate on windows.
Description of Work: I got an estimate for the replacement of 18 windows.

Skip was on time for the estimate. He was very courteous and provided information that was helpful in making a decision on which carpet to purchase. The installers arrived on time, I was actually able to schedule an exact time of 2 PM versus the normal 12-6 PM time frame. The work done was very professional and they were quick, efficient and cleaned up after themselves. There was a minor language barrier but we were able to work through it without problems.

Very good experience. Special order carpet came in 5 business days, installed 6th day. They took away the old carpet which was still waterlogged, and left everything vacuumed and tidy. They moved furniture from one room to the next as they worked, so we didn't have to clear absolutely everything out. They were also happy to wait for me as they came to the house precisely at the time I had to be out to pick up my kids. I am also very happy with the financing (nothing to pay until January 2008), as I will try to recover money from the water company re the drain problem which caused the flooding, so it gives me some time to try and get money to pay for it - and I can pay it off anytime and in any number of installments, like a credit card.
Description of Work: Installed new carpet in basement after flooding ruined the old one.

The first representative was most unprofessional, but measured and provided a quote of $800.00. I requested a new representative. The new representative was pleasant and most professional; however, his quote was double the first. To the company's credit they honored the first quote and I scheduled the work. The workman did a great job.
Description of Work: I had my basement re-carpeted after flooding caused me to remove the old carpeting.

I called Empire Today and was given an appointment for the next morning. Ashley, the sales rep, was punctual and professional. The installers came on time the following morning. They had the wrong color for the stair carpet, and I was instructed to called the salesperson. She returned my call within a half hour, and said that the correct carpet would be installed as the first job of the next morning. I was impressed that she accepted responsibility for the color mix-up. The installers and salesperson were apologetic about the delay, although it was not the installers fault--I saw their work order, and the carpet they brought was what was listed on their work order. The reason I called Empire Today is because of the advertise next-day installation. Although it did take 2 days, the installers came early the next morning. I did have to remind the workers to put down a metal strip at the door, however the overall quality of their work is fine.
Description of Work: Installation of new carpet in 3 bedrooms, hall, stairs, and living room, took up old carpet and hauled away.

Prices are reasonable compared to other flooring service providers. It is extremely difficult to get a specific answer from their customer service dept. They have so many different people in this dept. that it's hard to hold them accountable-- they give customers the runaround. No one wants to accept responsibility. One day they told me I was on the work order for the day, and no one ever came at all.
Description of Work: Purchased laminate flooring and had it installed. I called a couple weeks later to have them install hardwood flooring. The hardwood flooring was eventually installed after I contacted Empire 3 or 4 times. Empire did not do the job in a timely manner as agreed upon (next day installation). Phone calls were made to their corporate office in Illinois, who did not return them, and to the installation supervisor, who did not return them either.

I feel lucky that I did not go with the quote provided by Empire Carpet as the individual was truly trying to scam me. I got my carpet from another company, and the sales individual was fantastic and honest.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from Empire carpet, and the man was absolutely trying to take advantage of my first carpet buying experience! He first quoted me $8500, then made a few calls (pretended to perhaps) and cut me a deal for $4500, luckily I got additional quotes and got the whole job done for $2300 at another company. He was absolutely trying to rip me off! Thus the install next day idea!

The saleswoman was excellent and had plenty of samples to choose from. There were two installers, one of which spoke English. They were both polite, punctual and professional. I would highly recommend this company.

THE PRICE AND QUALITY OF THE CARPET WAS GOOD. THEY WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL. I DID HAVE TO CALL THEM A FEW TIMES, BUT THEIR FOLLOW UP SERVICE WAS GREAT. THEY ALSO PROVED TO HAVE A GOOD WARRANTY. I HAVE ALREADY RECOMMENDED THEM TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

FROM THE FIRST PHONE CALL TO THE MOVING BACK OF MY FURNITURE, IT WAS A GOOD EXPERIENCE. THEY CAME OUT WITH SAMPLES TO SHOW ME, THEY MOVED THE FURNITURE, RIPPED UP THE CARPET AND PAD, INSTALLED THE NEW CARPET, THEN MOVED THE FURNITURE BACK.
