It all went well. They were able to immediately found the source of a whistling sound that was coming from the furnace and running through the vents and fixed it. Plus the full furnace check- up and cleaning.

have been using this company for many years and have had excellent service in the past; we even bought our new furnace/heat pump from them a couple of years ago. However, the last regular maintenance service call was problematic - and I'm beginning to think that the Fall maintenance call was also an issue, though I did not connect the dots at that time. According to a call I placed to Clean Air, the service technician used a chemical to clean the unit. Clean Air says it is a product approved by the EPA. However, the next morning, sudsy water appeared in our outdoor pond. The indoor unit drains to the sump pump, and we rigorously do not put any chemicals in the sump pump water. All the fish in the pond were dead. These are fish that survived many winters in that pond. I contacted the product manufacturer via email, and was told this product should not cause a problem unless it was used full strength. I also was told it could not be easily neutralized and to drain and rinse the pond thoroughly. I never received a call back from the service manager. It takes years to get a pond to function as a natural pond, and now I have to start over.

We needed to replace our central air system when it was damaged by a lightning strike in September of 2011. We decided to wait until Spring of 2012 to replace the system. We researched hybrid systems that would interact with our existing oil system. A neighbor recommended Clean Air and we contacted them and several other companies for estimates. Clean Air seemed to be very professional, knew more about hybrid systems, and had the lowest estimate. They started and finished the work on time. When we had a problem with the two systems interacting they sent out a technician promptly who found the problem and fixed it on the spot. I would use Clean Air again and would recommend them to others.

We've been customers of Clean Air for about 10 years now and have been very happy with them. This morning we woke up and the downstairs heat was not working. We have a split level system. I called Clean Air and described the problem. They responded that a Tech would call when he/she was within about an hour of arriving. This is usually the case. In about an hour and half the Technician called and said he would arrive in about 30 minutes. Arrival was prompt and Tommy was polite and courteous. After I told him the problem and symptoms, he explained what he needed to do and I left him to his work. He worked efficiently and after discovering the problem explained what it would take to correct it. He had the part needed with him and the replacement was done quickly. We have an annual contract with Clean Air and all labor and parts were included. This visit would have cost about $200 but was free with our contract. That's about $90 for diagnostic and a little over $100 for the switch. FYI - the contract includes a Spring and Fall check up where our systems and humidifier are checked out. A/C systems are recharged if needed as well as humidifier wicks. All included. Well worth the cost of little under $400/year for the split level system and humidifier we have. Our heating/cooling systems are about 10 years old (we bought our house new at that time) and were installed by Clean Air I believe. In February 2011 a blower motor was replaced by Clean Air. Again, covered by the contract and probably worth about a 300 to 400 dollar visit. Last year I purchased digital thermostats and the Clean Air tech installed and tested them free of charge during a Maintenance Check. Every Clean Air employee from the phone call to the Techs are all friendly, professional and efficient. Note: I rated the Pricing a and quot;Band quot; only because I think they are fair (in a positive way). Clean Air is probably not the cheapest and some may consider Pricing on a and quot;Aand quot; level to be cheaper. I consider their prices reasonable for the service given.
Description of Work: No heat in basement furnace. A diagnostic was performed and a pressure switch in the furnace was found to be faulty. This was replaced and the heating system was tested.

The 30+ year old furnace set off the CO alarm Monday December 17, 2012. Called the fire department who came out and detected CO and turned off the gas. Later that day I had another furnace company come out to look at the furnace. I was told the heat exchanger was cracked. It was leaking lethal levels of CO and it was over 30 years old. I got busy on Angie's List and called various companies to come out and give me estimates. As it was getting colder, a new tenant had just moved in December 1, and the Holidays were coming up, I hoped to get this replacement done ASAP. I was able to get about three companies out the next day, another on Wednesday and Clean Air, whom I had used about 5 years earlier to replace the furnace and air conditioner on the second floor unit (my own), said they could not come out till Thursday morning. I had kinda hoped to make a selection by Wednesday to get the work done ASAP. When I called Clean Air back to see if they could not get someone out Wednesday, as I had hope to make a selection before Thursday. They said they could not, but a little later the estimator called me to see if he could get the information over the phone and give me an estimate from that. By this time, it seemed clear I would not be able to make a decision till Thursday anyway, so I gave him the information over the phone and said I would probably not make a decision till Thursday afternoon and he should still come out and look at the situation. He was right on time on Thursday (10am) and had an estimate in my email by noon. Their bid was significantly lower than all the others I had received. I went over it with a fine tooth comb to make sure they were not missing anything (I had them clarify a few minor details). The job featured one particular problem, newer air conditioners use a larger copper line than what was used when this old unit was installed. The furnace is in the basement and the compressor unit is on the roof 3 stories above. Two of the other contractors, rethought their original bids and researched that another manufacturer could be used with the old copper line, and that they could therefore use the old line and submitted a new bid (replacing the old copper lines would have been a difficult proposition). Clean Air's bid was originally for this manufactures unit (though when we spoke over the phone before he came out I had told him about this issue). The Clean Air bid was significantly below all the other bids. Since I had already had experience with this company (which had been satisfactory), I did not see how I could not accept this bid. I signed the proposal later Thursday afternoon at their office. By then we were running up against Christmas so it could not be scheduled until after Christmas. I stressed my tenant needed heat and hoped it could get done (at least the heat) ASAP. The installer called Wednesday the day after Christmas and came out to look over the job first hand. After looking at the job, he scheduled it for Friday. The weather was very cooperative, and the crane operation to put the unit on the roof went off flawlessly. The installers showed up right on schedule (8:15 for a 8-8:30 window) and the job was complete by 2pm that afternoon. Very efficient, I think, and they cleaned up and protected the apartment while they worked. I found a $200 coupon on their website that was honored at the final completion of the job.

My A/C stopped working on 9/12. I called Clean Air on 9/13. They came as promised between 8-12 pm on Friday 9/14. The outdoor unit turned on. The contractor talked about draining the Freon- he did not notice that unit was a Puron unit that did not have Freon (unit was clearly marked puron). Contractor spent only about 10-15 minutes looking at outside a/c unit and determined that it needed a new Condenser Motor because the old one was leaking. He said this is what caused the unit to stop working and that it would likely occur again. There was no evidence of a leak anywhere in the unit. He rubbed his fingers on the motor and said the residue was from aleak. The motor costs close to $500. He did not check the indoor unit. And, he did not check the vents to see if air was flowing into the house. After he left, I waited 2-3 hours and saw that the thermostat had not moved even 1 degree. I checked the indoor unit and there was no noise. I was not sure if there should be noise. I checked the vents and no air was flowing through the vents. I called Clean Air back and reported the situation. They sent a serviceman back later that day. He found that the Blower Motor on the indoor unit was not working causing the unit to freeze up. He explained everything and I could see the area that was frozen. I showed him all my documents that indicated there was special 10 year extended warranty on all parts. RESULT: If I beleived the first repairman, I would have ordered a $500 part that i did not need and i still would not have had a working air conditioner. I spoke with Clean Air on Monday and received no apology for what happened Friday. They said they spoke to Carrier and that there was no warranty on the air conditioning system. I don't know who they spoke to at Carrier or if they did actually contact Carrier, but I contacted Carrier and the system including the Blower Motor was under warranty. If I had beleived Clean Air, I would have paid $2,000 for the part needed. I had another contractor do the installation and my total cost was only $250 for the labor.

I was happy with my experience with this company. Jim came out and gave me a straight forward estimate, he was very professional. I was also impressed with their maintains decision. I can honestly say that I am not very impressed with this company. Let me start with the installation. The job took two weeks longer than expected. They broke my bathroom light, a picture frame, and left holes in my walls, ripped molding off the ceiling access to the attic, and partially tore my bathroom sink from the wall They didn't fix ANYTHING. When it was all done, I just wanted them out of my house. During the installation, the sales rep would not answer the voice mail messages that I left on his phone. The only way he would respond to me was if I called the office. It's the 21st century; learn how to use voice mail. Since the installation, I noticed that they left a giant hole in my soffit and a hole in the brick. My attic is not finished and I was concerned about squirrels or birds making my attic their new home. I called them to come and patch these holes and they did come out within the week to fix them. Last week I noticed that what ever they patched my soffit with had fallen out. I called them last week and again this week. I have even stated my frustration, still no call back from them. When I call the number that I had in my phone, which is the sales number, they couldn't just transfer me over. No, that would be too convenient. Evidently, there's a sales number, an installation number and service number. It’s like trying to get someone to help you at Verizon. I am currently having another issue with the system that they are coming out to fix it. The guy at the service number was friendly. I hope this experience will be more positive. .
