The Short version: The whole process was probably the smoothest part of buying a new house and moving. Longer Version: Charm City Movers was an amazing company to work with. Every person we spoke with at the company was professional and very helpful. We dealt mainly with Felix, but also spoke with Tammy and I believe Chris. Felix worked with me to get a quote that wouldn't end up changing on moving day. Many of the other companies I looked into came in at a lower cost, but they were not a flat rate. So, who knows what their final costs would be. The way Felix explained their pricing made me feel comfortable in my decision to use them. She worked through the quote with me as well made adjustments as went through the packing process. Throughout the whole process Charm City movers kept the communication lines open. They were late both for move and out move in. I state this NOT to point out something bad, but to point out something POSITIVE. Their truck broke down the morning of our move out, but Felix was on the phone letting me know of the problem and their solution right away. The same went for the moving in. The movers were late due another job causing delays and taking longer than expected. Again, Felix kept the lines of communication open. In fact, I was even texted as well as receiving a voice message as to not interrupt our closing. Again, I stress pointing out the lateness isn't to be taken as a bad thing. Things will happen, but Charm City Movers kept us in the loop instead of hiding behind excuses!!! (This is why they still received an "A" above under punctuality) Finally, I must comment on the movers themselves. Our team was amazing! They were efficient, courteous, and very patient. Both move in and move out were done in about 2 hours!!! Don't let the short time fool you, our things were handled with care. Overall, we would recommend Charm City Movers without hesitation. Not working by the hour allows for them to be more efficient as well as not nickel and dime the customers.

I can't thank you enough for taking the time to write such an amazing review so soon after your move. You have no idea how much it means to all of us here that you took that time. We truly try to be unlike any other moving company, and your review lets us know that we are doing the right thing. You know [removed member name], moving people is one thing, but making them feel good about their move is completely different. Thank you so much. We wish you and your family nothing but the best in your new home. Best Regards, Felix

Chris and the other movers were excellent! They arrived early, were fast in loading and unloading, and were careful with items. I like that Charm City gives you the exact cost rather than an estimate so there are no surprises with the bill. I highly recommend them and would use them again!

From the first phone call, I was impressed with their professionalism and responsiveness. We had a short timeline for the move and they were able to fit us in. The gentlemen who showed up were very respectful of our furniture and very polite. I liked that the price was based on the number and type of items being moved. That being said, however, the truck they brought was too small, so a number of items on the list were not taken - leaving us to move them ourselves or arrange another move date. I would , probably use them again but would emphasize that everything needs to be taken. We are still working on getting the last of the items from our old house.

I did not use their service. I was impressed with the professionalism on the phone.
Description of Work: Received a quote to move furniture. The price was reasonable and my contact with them was very pleasant. However, I found an Angie;s list Deal for $270 with an also A rated company. The only reason I did not choose Charm City movers was that I got a "deal" from Angie's list

We recently got married and needed to move some of the furniture located at my former residence in Southern Baltimore County to our daughter's home in York, Pennsylvania. The pieces involved were a queen sized bed frame, headboard with brand new Beauty rest mattress set; an antique pine armoire; 9 drawer maple dresser with mirror and a 108 inch 3 cushion sofa. They arrived promptly at 8:45 am and the three man crew of Quentin, Jermaine & Steve made moving these heavy pieces look like child's play! They were extremely courteous, professional and nice! Quentin went above and beyond the call of duty to kindly explain everything that would happen during the move, fixing bent wheels on bed frame, where to get replacement wheel parts for the armoire, etc. He pointed out scratches on the armoire and dresser, which we appreciated since the pieces were older. They handled the furniture like it was theirs, with tons of TLC! Then they left for the long 60 mile trek to our daughter's in York .... With my husband driving beside them most of the way around the beltway and I 83! they arrived at our daughter's house in less than 10 minutes after my hubby did, they backed up to the garage and the furniture was placed in the garage with the same care and efficiency as when it was loaded. All in all it took them about 35 minutes to load at the apartment, 25 minutes to unload and fix the bent wheel in York. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for help in moving and will definitely use them again if the need arises! THEY ROCK! Thanks again! Karen and Keith Brackin

They were right on time. Rico and his team were great! The move was fairly complex (at least to me). A few pieces were only being taken out of my condo and loaded into my friend's truck. The rest of the furniture was to be taken to two places, with some pieces going to another condo, and the rest to a residence. All the moves went smoothly. My biggest worry was with moving my mother's 100+ year old antique vanity. Rico was wonderful. He carefully padded it and was very gentle moving it. I am happy to say the vanity made it in perfect condition. Tammy and Felix in the office were helpful and kind. I would definitely use Charm City Movers again and I highly recommend.

For the second time, Charm City Movers was nothing less than exceptional. Both times, my husband and I could not believe how efficient and quick they completed the move-- in and out in 2 hours!!! But don't mistake their speed for carelessness, they are extremely careful and particular. Professional staff, respectful to house (and newly painted walls), affordable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! Ask for Quintin. If we ever move again, we will be using them.

A crew of 4 guys and a truck arrived at the apartment about 45 minutes ahead of the time we were told they would be there. Needless to say, we weren't quite ready for them. My wife went out to speak to them and to get them to move their truck (they had parked in a "Reserved" parking spot that is a paid spot by another tenant). The main guy waved her off and paid no attention to her. I then had to go out and raise my voice to them to get them to actually listen and explain that they were a little early and to give us about 20 minutes. After this little hiccup, I was ticked off and attempted to call Charm City Movers, but no one answered. We got our daughter ready, secured our dog, and my wife, daughter, and aunt went on to the house while I stayed at the apartment, and the guys loaded everything. Once these guys started working, they were very professional, careful, and organized. The entire move took less than 2 hours from loading and unloading (the house is only a mile from the apartment). These guys don't get paid by the hour - they get paid by the move - and the invoice is based on number of items moved, not an hourly rate. Charm City Movers was by far the cheapest moving company that I scoped out - and other than the rough-around-the-edges appearance and nature of the guys doing the moving, the experience wasn't bad. I would use them again, especially knowing what to expect.

This move was scheduled with an arrival between 8-10. When we confirmed the move, we thought we would be closer to 9am as we had multiple crews going out that morning. Our movers normally call to let our customers know if we are running either ahead or behind schedule, but apparently, neglected to do so on this move. Our most sincere apologies for not doing that. We have reminded all of our men that communication is essential on moving day. At the end of the month, all moving companies are at their busiest, especially in the morning when crews are going out. This is why sometimes you may not get an answer. If you leave a message, we will always get back to you as soon as we are in place. If we are not expecting to be at the office, we give our moving customers our cell number so they can stay in touch with us.

We've used them twice and we were satisifed with both moves. First move: Pros: Team was professional and on-time. Cons: The movers forgot to unload a lamp and the shade was damaged, but Felix was able to replace it. Second move: Pros: Team was on-time and despite the crazy weather (rain, hail, then snow!!), the team successfully finished the job. We were moving into a new home so I addressed my concerns of possible carpet stains during the move and Felix found a solution to cover the floors with a special tape ($25). We really appreciated that. Cons: I saw one of the mover throw one of our boxes to another mover. Our office desk was damaged but once again, Felix had it fixed and returned in brand-new condition. Was very impressed! Will def use them again and recommend to others.

I feel badly that (for various reasons I won't go into) I have taken so long to write this review. I really can't say enough good things about Charm City Movers and all the employees involved in my move. This makes the 8th time I have used movers in my lifetime, 5 moves were from one state to another and 3 were local. This was by far the most pleasant experience of any of them and it was due to the people at Charm City. What a great team! I think these people really enjoy their jobs and it shows in their customer service. It just seemed to be part of the company culture that every single person was nice!! and hard working!! Felix and Sowmya were just pleasant to be with and did a great job packing. I really like the way boxes were labeled. Most movers just write "Kitchen" or "Bedroom", etc. Felix and Sowmya put a description of what was in the box and, in some cases, specifically where in the kitchen it came from. That was very helpful when unpacking. The guys who moved the furniture and boxes (and the snow!!) were outstanding!! Quinton was the guy in charge and he quietly gave the other guys a "hard time" all day. I enjoyed listening to the good-natured banter because It was obvious that they liked and respected each other. Bottom line is that, if you need a local mover, I don't think you could possibly do better than Charm City Movers Oh, and by the way, there was not a scratch, dent, or chip on anything.
Description of Work: I filled out an online request for an estimate during a big snowstorm. The information was, as you might expect, pretty detailed and took some time to fill out. When I submitted it, I got an error message. I was so disappointed because I really liked the description of Charm City movers and the great reviews they got on Angie's list. I decided to call (but thought I would get an answering machine because of the snowstorm). Instead the phone was answered by the nicest lady (Tammy) and she told me that she had received my request and was already working on it. I received the quote on 2/13/2014 and a week later I was moved. During that week I tweaked my list of things to be moved and Felix called to confirm the final plans. The price of $830 for the move was spelled out up front. Packing was $324 and depended on the number of boxes, but it was also estimated beforehand. On 2/19/2014, the day before the move, Felix and Sowmya came to pack dishes and pictures (these are the only things I wanted professionally packed). As Felix and Sowmya were leaving Felix noted that the foot of my driveway was covered with ice and, thinking it might present a problem for the truck, she asked for a shovel. Then Felix and Sowmya proceeded to break up the ice and shovel it aside. Unfortunately, some of the snow that was still covering the yard melted during the afternoon, ran across the foot of the drive, and froze again overnight. When the moving truck arrived next morning there was a dilemma. The location of the townhouse and the "tight quarters" created by cars parked across from it made it impossible to back the truck into the driveway, and it would have been too treacherous to try to carry furniture and boxes down the icey driveway to the road. I would not have been surprised if they had said "sorry, there's just no way to do this today". Not these guys - Quinton, Jamain, Delvin, and William. They got busy shoveling a path from the sidewalk across a corner of the yard to the front door and then put down furniture pads to walk on. The move went off without any further problems.

The team showed up on time and was 4 guys. One was clearly the crew leader but the other three seemed to be guys that were just picked up off the street. One had some moving experience. The other two, definitely not. They did unload the row house into the van pretty quickly and efficiently. Unfortunately they underestimated the size of the truck needed and we had to make two runs which doubled the time it took to do the job. The unloading from the truck to our new house was much less efficient. Granted there are three stories and we have some heavy pieces, but the guys had no interest (especially with the second run) in making sure that our distinctly labeled boxes got into the right spots. There was some minor damage to some of our pieces which probably could have been prevented with a more experienced crew. That being said, the biggest issue that we faced was that there was pretty significant damage done to our floors and our kitchen island and counters. They put large scratches in the floor in the foyer and made a huge scratch on both our butcher block island and another counter top. The crew leader sat down with us after the job was done and assured us that the damage would be repaired and that it was their fault. We contacted Felix after the job and she sent out a "handyman" to assess the damage and figure out how to repair it. After the "handyman" came out, he was never heard from again. We placed several calls to Felix but never got any replies. One year later, we still have to see the scratches on the floor at the bottom of our stairs and on the kitchen island and counter. I would highly recommend NOT using this company as they have little business ethics and didn't follow through with their promise to guarantee to rectify the damage caused by their team of very inexperienced movers.

Men that work for Charm City Movers are only hired with moving experience. We NEVER pull anyone off the street to provide moves for our customers. I would never risk our customers safety with that kind of move. If you pick up a mover from the street, there is no accountability, as we have no idea who this person is or where they came from. Sometimes, when we are on a house move,we have 2 options for a full load. Either do it in 2 trips or 2 trucks. Sending out 2 trucks will significantly increase a move price and if we are not looking at a long distance, we will send 1 truck to give our customers a better move price. A second truck on a move can cost up to an additional $400. Most of what was on this move was put into the 1st load. I have a furniture restoration professional who does repair for us when we cause damage to a customers furniture. I have never referred to him as a handyman, nor would I, as he has dedicated his entire life creating and repairing furniture. He is truly amazing and I have never heard of anyone being unhappy with his work. He did go to this customers house, something not mentioned in this review, and repaired a scratch on a crib and dresser. Our men stated they were responsible for those scratches. Our furniture Restoration Specialist looked at her floors but I asked him not to repair them as we were not responsible for them. When we arrived at the new house, there was contractors paper laid out n the floor in the foyer area. As our movers were moving pieces into the home, one of our movers noticed a couple of stones coming through the paper from the floor. With this customer present, he showed them that the paper was laid over stones that were on the floor and those stones caused the floor to scratch. This mover took a small handful of stones out from under the paper to show them. I spoke with her at length about these scratches and stone, both on the day of her move and then again later, and suggested she speak with her contractor as I felt they bore the responsibility of putting paper down without checking to see if there was a clean floor underneath. Granted, there have been times that we may have caused scratches on flooring and we have repaired them, but we were not willing to repair something we did not cause. There was a deep scratch on a kitchen island. I know of no counter scratches, nor was never made aware of them. This concerned me as well because how would a mover scratch an island ? No furniture went into the kitchen, only boxes. Boxes can cause a scratch on some soft wood, if it is slid across a table, but it will not with a counter top. It truly made no sense to me. When I spoke with her movers, they told me they were not aware of anything that would have caused the island to scratch, they had only put boxes into the kitchen. My belief is that the scratch may have been overlooked at a walk through. If I felt we were responsible, I would have had our man repair the island. Charm City Movers is a company who stands by their work and pays attention to detail.

My treadmill never got where it was supposed to be. The 2 movers gave up on the process.
Description of Work: Movers show on time. I hired Charm City to move my treadmill and the 1 bedroom apartment. I mainly needed the to move the treadmill. When we quoted this move, we asked the customer if the treadmill was brought into the house as a whole unit. He said it was. When we confirmed the move, we asked again if it was brought in the house in 1 piece, and we were told it was. Our movers determined it didn't. The men on this move had 22 years of combined moving experience so I am confident they did all they could to get that treadmill out without disassembling. If we had known that treadmill was assembled in the house, we would have told our customer that it needed to come apart. Most treadmills can come apart easily, but the newer ones have electronics associated with them, and although our men are great at disassembling most items, the newer electronic treadmills with wide arms are not one of them. Our men are movers, not electricians and some of these treadmills are very complicated. We always ask our customers if any of their exercise equipment came in as 1 unit in order to let them know that if it was assembled in the house, they need to disassemble it on their own. Always let your moving company know if your electronics need disassembly. This way both you and your moving company can be prepared for a stress free move.

They arrived promptly and had his belongings loaded in a little more than an hour, in spite of a weather event much like a micro-burst. On the other end of the move, they worked very patiently with the client to get everything in place and even carried up belongings he had packed into his van. It could not have gone better! I highly recommend this company and will definitely call on them again!

It went fine. They were prompt and we were moved out of our old house and into the new one within about 3 hours. All of our things arrived and nothing was broken, although there were several nicks and dents, and dirt marks. I was a little disappointed because we were expecting similar care for our belongings as we had on previous moves. In other moves, the movers have wrapped our furniture in plastic wrap or moving blankets before moving them from the house (thus protecting the walls and furniture), but in this case, the blankets were only applied in the truck. I specifically asked whether we should pack the couch cushions and was told the movers would take care of them, which they did, but they didn't pack them at all and two of them fell on the lawn as they were unloading them into the new house. Not a big deal, but not what I was expecting after the professionalism from the phone calls. It was very easy to set up the move and arrange everything, which set very high expectations for the day of the move.

Many hourly moving companies pad wrap furniture inside the home. This is a very time consuming process, and one we don't do for a couple of reasons other than the time it takes. When movers pad wrap in the home, they will add additional charges for the tape they use in order to contain the wrap. If they use shrink wrap with the pad, that is another charge on top of the tape. Both tape and shrink wrap are costly, as they contain petroleum. Once we have furniture on the truck , we then pad wrap without the tape or shrink wrap as we find in our experience, that is very effective and damages are very rare. If there is any kind of damage, it is important you let us know, and we will send someone out to repair any dents or scratches. Another reason we prefer to pad wrap on the truck, is the loader can see any weak point on a piece of furniture. An example, if you have a dresser that has a cracked or weak leg, and it has been previously wrapped, the loader has no idea that the leg is weak and may stand it up. The pressure from movement of the truck can cause the leg to snap, even though it is in pads. When the piece is not wrapped beforehand, the loader is able to inspect the piece , and he will know that he needs to load the dresser on the side rather than standing up. Pad wrapped furniture can also be damaged. If we wrap all pieces of upholstery, you can count on significant charges for those supplies. The only time I suggest people shrink wrap upholstery, is when the piece is white, cream or leather, however we will always do so if that is what our customers want for themselves. [removed member name], please reach out to use and I will make sure any dents or scratches you have on any of your pieces are repaired. I truly thank you for your review and hope to hear from you regarding the scratches. Felix

Good experience. Received a call ahead to double check time and actual inventory. Was asked if it was okay if the movers arrived earlier than my 8am appointment. I happily said that they could come early. The three guys arrived at 7:30 (just as agreed) although I was told that I would have four movers only three showed up. Although there was only three men, they did not appear to be overtaxed, didn't complain, worked straight through and did not take any breaks, was respectful and courteous. The driver #56, mover #50 and mover #52 (this is how they are identified on their paperwork) performed a great job (sorry I forgot your names). This is my first experience with a professional moving company. I moved all of my smaller stuff to keep the cost down which left my boxes (about 50), bedroom and dining room furniture. The price was comparable to what they did and what they had to move. The entire move was completed by 11:30am. I hope never to move again but if I do, I will not hesitate to call this company again.

Michael, Danny and Chris arrived on time at 8:30 AM and went immediately to work. The storage unit was about 250 feet down a long hall from the entrance to the storage warehouse. Although I was in no pressing hurry to make the move, the fellows frequently ran the length of the hall when returning to take another load. The men were personable and efficient. The unit was emptied and the truck packed in about 75 minutes. The move was only 12 miles away. They hand-carried most of the boxes and all of the furniture about 50 feet across a lawn to an outside entrance with 13 steps leading down to the basement, and a few items to the 2nd floor bedroom. The basement was unfurnished and I asked them to stack the boxes, etc. as tightly as was safely possible in the center, as I will be finishing the basement. They deposited everything neatly as requested, taking perhaps an hour at the most. The price was extremely fair, not the least expensive but around $1000 less than the highest quote I received. In the coming months, I will be moving from my current home to the new house and will certainly use Charm City Movers and ask for Michael, Danny and Chris by name.

The whole thing went perfectly. When I called Charm City, I was able to schedule the move when I needed it. The contract and work order appeared in my email a few minutes later. They charge by the number and type of pieces to be moved, not by time, which is nice because you know up front what it will cost - something that can only be estimated when the charge is by time. Their price was comparable to other moving company's estimates. I called the office twice before the move to tell them about things I had forgotten to put on the initial inventory, and Tammy (and another woman whose name I can't remember) were very nice and helpful. The movers arrived on time, got straight to work, and worked without a break until the whole thing was done a few hours later. Quinton and Jamal(? not sure about this name) were very professional and careful of the furniture. They moved it and stored it in the right order so that it all fit neatly. They were also very pleasant - I enjoyed their company. I really can't think of a thing that could have gone better.
Description of Work: I am remodeling my basement, and had to remove all the furniture. I planned to store it in the garage. Charm City moved family room and bedroom furniture from the basement to the garage for me. They had to break down several pieces, including a unique, older piece that was so cleverly fastened together that it was really hard to figure out how to do. I had seen it in pieces, so I knew it could be done, but I didn't know how. The Charm City movers would not give up, which was important, since I am not sure the piece could have been removed or carried in one piece.

Things went very well. Felix and the team very very friendly, professional, helpful, understanding when our settlement date was delayed twice. The moveing crew was very polite, professional, and efficeient. They called when they were able to come early. It took them about 40 minutes to load, and less time to unload. They asked the right questions, and made sure the job was done right. They charged by the pieces and items, not by the hour or by mileage. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Moved heavy furniture from old house to new house across the county.
