THIS COMPANY IS RUN BY TWO BROTHERS. ONE BROTHER IS THE CONTRACTOR AND THE OTHER DOES THE ACCOUNTING AND PAPERWORK AND WE DEALT WITH NON-CONTRACTOR BROTHER. THE ESTIMATE WAS REASONABLE BUT WHEN WE WENT TO SIGN THE CONTRACT IT WAS $13,000.00 MORE. WE WERE PRESSURED INTO SIGNING IT BECAUSE WE WERE TOLD THAT OUR JOB WOULD BE BUMPED BACK IF WE WANTED TO AMEND AND WE DIDN'T FEEL LIKE WE COULD WAIT. WE WERE TOLD THAT WE COULD AMEND THINGS VERBALLY AND WE DID SO. FOR EXAMPLE, WE TOOK OUT TWO CLOSETS @ $1,000.00 APIECE AND DID NOT GET THE INSIDE OF THE UTILITY AND LAUNDRY ROOMS FINISHED. WE ADDED A FEW THINGS, LIKE EXTRA OUTLETS, WHICH THEY TOLD US THE COST FOR. WE ADDED AND OMITTED A NUMBER OF OTHER THINGS ALONG THE WAY. EVEN THOUGH WE PERSISTENTLY ASKED, WE WERE NEVER TOLD WHAT THOSE ADDED OR SUBTRACTED COSTS WERE. IN THE END, THE AMOUNT CAME OUT TO SIGNIFICANTLY MORE THAN WE HAD EXPECTED AND MORE THAN WHAT WE HAD ORIGINALLY AGREED TO.
Description of Work: THE COMPANY BUILT A SMALL APARTMENT IN MY BASEMENT. THEY BUILT WALLS, CEILINGS, INSTALLED A KITCHEN AND BATHROOM, AND PUT IN FLOORING. THEY ALSO INSTALLED LIGHTING AND PAINTED THE WALLS. THEY HIRED SOMEONE TO REPLACE PLUMBING AND ALTER THE CONCRETE STAIRS LEADING TO THE BASEMENT.

We pride ourselves on our top quality work and outstanding customer service. From all of our customers, this is the only complaint that we have ever received. This can be verified by checking with the Home Improvement Commission and Better Business Bureau. Through authorized Change Orders, customer drove the cost of the contract up. We agreed to finance up to $7,500. During the course of work, customer ran out of money and ceased making payments. We carried the excess debt and cut prices in an effort to complete the project, which would be to the benefit of all parties. After months of deferred payments and being unresponsive to our calls, customer paid a portion. As per the terms of our contract, we proceeded to attempt to resolve this matter through legal mediation. All parties agreed to a settlement of $6000. Our company took a loss of $2,250 plus expenses incurred throughout the project. In deference to mediation, we didn't pursue legal action. We acted in accordance with MHIC regulations and in full compliance with the law, and feel the members have acted unjustly and maliciously. It is unreasonable to give a rating based on a single opinion.
