+ 2 moreFrom my initial contact with Band H to have the chimney swept to the completion of the much more involved work required to make my chimney safe, Tim and his crew were just great to work with. They explained, in detail, both what needed to be done to bring the chimney up to code and why each item was necessary. I particularly liked hard they worked to keep soot and ash out of the house. Scheduling of service was done in a timely manner and when the lack of availability of a needed part delayed the start of work, Melika, in the office, worked with me to be sure that I didn't have to miss more work than absolutely necessary. She addressed scheduling and payment questions immediately. When my new chimney needs to be swept next year, I will call Band H without hesitation!
Description of Work: Initial contact was for chimney sweep for my Woodstove. During that service, extensive problems were identified with my chimney. + -1 moreTim showed up 5 minutes late, after calling to say he'd be late. The chimney sweeping job was thorough and extensive. He explained everything he was doing, cleaned up carefully and offered good suggestions for future maintenance. Photos documented all aspects and were provided in the report that followed via email. Potential problem areas were pointed out, and repair options presented with no pressure to buy. This was a great experience in service by a dedicated professional from a solid company. I'm telling all my friends!

+ 2 moreWe bought a new house and knew we needed to repair our chimney. After looking on Angies list we decided to get one flu swept and get an estimate ont he repairs. Unfortnately we needed alot of work from replacing spalling bricks on the exterior to a new lining and rebuilding the fire box. Band H offered a fair price, performed the serivce in a timely manner, was respectful of our house and property. The fireplace draws great now ant he furnace vents much better. I anticipate after these repairs we will not need to worry about these items for decades to come. Thanks to Tim he was gret to deal with.

Description of Work: B&H came, inspected the chimney from inside and went on roof. Swept it. Gave us a list (with pictures) of outside chimney repairs that should eventually be performed, but said the fire place/chimney were basically safe and sound. Very thorough; very professional. Very impressive.

+ -1 moreMy original appointment was for 12/15. The office called to reschedule for the following week. The inspection was done, photo's taken of the inside fireplace which I have a pellet stove and photo's of the outside chimney area. The technicians couldn't swipe flue without setting up a dust tent which requires another appointment. I was told the inspection fee of $80.00 can be applied to any work totaling over $299.00. I received a detailed report, photos and cost to build a dust tent to clean the pellet and sweep chimney or to install a stainless steel flexible liner from my pellet stove to the top of the chimney. Once I decide which option, I do plan to use this company to perform the work. The technicians in my opinion were professional, friendly and experienced.

+ 0 moreOffice staff and technicians were extremely professional. Work took approximately 2-3 days to complete. For the most part, techs were on time, but if they were running late, they did call promptly to inform me of traffic issues.
Description of Work: This was an extensive job. Water had entered flue thru cracked crown and then flue tile. More than 100 bricks were damaged on exterior chase, there was cracked mortar in several courses of brick. Firebox also had water damage and cracked mortar joints all around. They tore down/replaced bricks, laid a new cement crown, fixed the mortar joints, and where possible, hammered-out and replaced damaged bricks and fixed any cracked cement.

+ 2 moreTim from Band H Chimneys inspected and swept my fireplace/chimney. It hadn't been used in about 10 years-- I was a little concerned about what he might find, but things were in pretty good shape. Tim recommended I keep an eye on some small cracks that will likely need repair down the road but are nothing to worry about immediately. He also advised replacing the rusted chimney cap and chase cover-- also not required immediately. I'll have Band H back in the spring to do that work. Professional and knowledgable, Tim anticipated and answered my questions. Excellent service!

He did a thorough checkup of the boiler and water heater vents and checked the chimney for signs of damage and issues. He also examined and tested my gas fireplace, and was very patient with all my questions. He explained all the issues and listed in the order of importance, along with the cost for each. Very helpful since that way I can tackle each depending on my budget. Tim is very friendly and informative. I am very satisfied with the service. Will most definitely use their service again. :)

+ 0 moreWork was done well. No mess and they do so much more than the other company I had in last year for a much better price. Tim does not hard sell you anything. He simply tells what he has found, if anything, and then asks if you want an estimate. A written report is e-mailed and if needed photos are provided as well. He (Tim) is a good, hard working, honest guy. He will give you advice even if you want to do some DIY work. I have use Band H since they were formed with the exception of 2011. Before Band H was formed I have used Tim as a sweep since 2000. I regret not using Band H in 2011 as the company that I used tried to sell me a chimney liner, chemical creosote cleaning, and new copper chimney flashing. None of which were needed. They also told me I had experienced a chimney fire. This was not true either. I presented all this to Tim this year for validation and he explained why each item was/was not valid. The only valid need was to repair the cracked sealant at the base of the chimney flashing. Trust Band H! A true value.
Description of Work: Sweep and inspect chimney and wood stove. Completely cleaned the interior of the stove and the smoke box too.

+ 0 moreThey came out on a Friday. They said the soonest they could get me a quote to replace the fireplace was Monday. They sent me a quote of $19,776 to replace the fireplace and chimney. I thought it was steep, so I contacted another company that did the work for $2,850. I wasn't too happy with their extravagant quote because they knew I had only 2 days to get the quote for the work for escrow purposes. The $2,850 was even an upgrade to the fireplace.

+ 0 moreThe guys came when they said they would, and over three days, took exquisite care of my property. They did the bulk of the work while I was at work, and my neighbors would praise them to me for the care they took and the diligence with which they worked. We had discussed the esthetics of the reconstruction. Since my house is stucco, they rebuilt the chimney with concrete blocks, and then they stuccoed it. It was a really beautiful job, artistically done. My property was respected, and the clean up each day was immaculate. I can't praise this company highly enough. I expect I will never have a problem with my chimney again, but should I ever need chimney work again, there is no one else I would consider.
Description of Work: My house was built in 1929. The concrete block chimney had cracked and been repaired many times. This time, the deterioration was severe. One company wanted to coat the entire chimney with an elastomeric coating. I was dubious about this, as my research did not produce any information that this was a safe or effective treatment of an entire chimney. Another company wanted to parge the chimney. I decided to get a third opinion. I found B&H Chimneys on Angie's List. The owner spoke to me at length on the phone, taking his time and explaining my options. We arranged an estimate, and the guys came exactly when they'd promised. They did a thorough inspection of the chimney, and took photos of the chimney. I was shocked to see the condition of the back of the chimney, as I had never seen that view of it before. They told me that the best option was to demolish the existing chimney, and build a new one. The chimney had been relined about eight years ago, and that was in perfect condition. I decided that their opinion was the best one, and hired them for the job.

+ 0 moreThe story is thankfully simple: I got a referral from a friend about her experience with the company. I called and talked to a person not voice mail. Mario scheduled an estimate and was out the next week to do it. We scheduled the work date (schedule early--these guys are popular!) and then Tim showed up as scheduled, did the work quickly and expertly, made sure to contain the dirt by using plastic, and then thoroughly cleaned the area. Since the work was done in my kitchen, I was extra concerned about dirt and grime--but Tim and his assistant took care of everything. I was quite pleased with the whole process. These guys are honest, reliable, and professional. Chimney work can be expensive because of the time and materials (and danger) involved, but they're prices came in slightly under my other estimates--and having the job taken care of by true pros would have been worth paying more.
Description of Work: I have used Tim and Mario's company several times now. They cleaned and appraised the building' s chimneys two years ago. Last year, they installed a flue pipe for a wood stove. This winter, when I wanted to modify the stove, they did the modification and the stove works fantastically. All of the work was done as planned, scheduled, explained, and estimated.

+ -1 moreI have used Band H for all of my chimney repair and maintenance since I bought my house in 2009. I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't gone on my roof since before the initial repair. Last week I went up and was surprised when I compared the chimney that they repaired to my older chimney that was repaired by another company before I purchased the house. I didn't realize how lucky I was to have used Band H the other chimney look really shoddy, it's practically cemented shut. Now, the damper on the shoddy chimney is broken - Band H will definitely be doing the work when I'm ready to deal with it. For now, I have them coming out to sweep the working chimney next week. Initially I thought I would have to wait until November, but Taylor called me the day after she put me on the and quot;wait listand quot; and told me that a time had opened up in the schedule and Tim (the same sweep who came to my house previously and I like quite a bit) could come out the following Friday. Chimney's swept and drafting great!
Description of Work: B&H did extensive repair to the brick work, lining, damper and animal guard on one of my three chimneys. They will also be coming out to sweep that same chimney next week.

I thought others needing chimney repair would want to know, so they can save their time and try another service provider, hopefully with a less outrageous wait.

Photos were provided of interior and exterior showing problem with cracked cement around the chimney cap, which explained the reason we experienced water seeping into the brick fireplace surround inside our home. In July, 2011 they repaired the exterior cap problem. No longer have any water inside when it rains. Also very pleased with the optional treatment to seal the exterior chimney, which has an excellent guarantee. Appointments kept as scheduled. On the inital visit to inspect the fireplace, the technician was running late due to a problem at the prior customer's home but called in advance of the appointment time to so advise, and then called again to let us know the approximate time he'd be at our home, and then called again once he was on the road to our home. We really appreciated the respect as homeowners that he showed to us.
Description of Work: First service was Inspection of fireplace in January, 2011 for $75.00 . Additional services to repair cracks along chimney cap and seal coating of exterior chimney for appx. $425.00 in July, 2011.

Our chimney was not used heavily but they went out of their way to sweep it for us at no additional charge. I would have no problem using these guys again.

+ 1 moreWe bought a home that had not been occupied for several years. The fireplace and chimney needed cleaning and repairs, literally from top to bottom. Band H is very busy, so we completed the work in stages, stretched out over a couple of months. Now we see why their schedule stays full. They did an outstanding job, and it was a pleasure to have them here. Part of the job, removing broken bricks from our fireplace and replacing them with matching ones, involved sawing through mortar and digging out bricks by hand. It was a messy, dusty job, but they sealed off the area with a tent. The rest of the house got hardly any dust at all. Everything looks great now, and next winter we will have a fireplace that is safe to use. I recommend Band H highly.

+ 0 moreCalled in Sept. Came by within a week to provide an estimate. Price was the most competitive. They were busy until Oct which was ok w/ us. Just prior to the installation date, they called us to say that that they were delivered the wrong part. They rescheduled for the following week. They arrived on-time, completed the work in a professional manner. They inspected and swept our existing chimney for no-charge due to the fact that they missed the original date. All in all an excellent experience. I would certainly use them again.
