Terrible; the salesman was flip and dismissive; there is a serious communication breakdown within the company. **** UPDATE 9/19/11**** I previously wrote a critical review of a very distressing service experience with A. Hoffman Awning. Two years have passed. A member of Angie's List was trying to decide between two providers for an awning job. Those folks chose A. Hoffman;s competitor. Mrs. Hoffman called them to find out why her husband's company did not get this business and the customer cited my critical review as being a pursuasive factor in reaching their decision. Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman called my home last Sunday, I believe it was. They had followed through and found and read the review. They asked me for further details, and asked if there was anything they might do, NOW, this long after the incident. I explained that the awning on my home came apart at one critical seam, and we were continuing to use the awning in that condition. Neighbors and passing dog walkers had asked about the damage. Still we kept it up as it was. One of the supervisors from A. Hoffman Awning arrived at my home this past Wednesday, introduced himself, examined the awning and announced it would be repaired or replaced by Friday. He apologized, told me of many changes within the company, tried to assure me of a return to an attitude and work product of quality and integrity. I choose to believe Gideon "Jun" Oberio , this particular supervisor. Please attach this addendum to the beginning of my prior critical review of this company. Thank you.
Description of Work: I purchased an awning cover and awning frame from a member of the Hoffman family 7 years ago. It was time for a replacement cover. I called, was told my previous specs would be reviewed, was given the name of one of the salesman. Was told he would be contacting me. When he called, he quoted a price at the end of our conversation. About 3 weeks went by, I called the company, said I was ready to order my awning. Receptionist said I had to wait for that same salesperson to get back to me, I couldn't speak to anyone else about the specs of my order. When Darin finally returned my call, I reviewed my specs for the order, told him I had all details written down, would include a check for approximately a third of the final cost, and would leave this in an envelope for him when he finally came to measure. Darin informed me no one was able to find the specs of my previous order with their company, although I was assured all specs were kept for all jobs. He said the awning could be completed in as little time as a week. A month goes by. I call the company, asking about the status of my order. Receptionist tells me only Darin can speak to me; I must call him on his cell. The return call comes from the receptionist, however, quoting a final price over $100.00 higher, and stating a takedown date for the current cover, and a tentative installation date for the new one for two days later. I ask why installation can't occur same day, since the measurements had been taken a month ago, and also why the price was quite different. Receptionist says she doesn't know, that's all she was told to tell me. I go back to the business' website and find Darin's business email, and lay out my concerns. When he calls me back, he informs me that, while the price for the awning was going to be higher than originally discussed, it wasn't as high as the women in the office had quoted, He said he 'guessed' they just multiplied my check amount by 3 and quoted that final price back to me. He said that since I appeared to be so unhappy with things, he could take the price back down to that originally quoted, but that the awning would still need to be made, since the measurements he had taken on the day, a month prior, were not acceptable to the staff in the factory. They could not begin work until they had the original in hand. I asked why he had then waited for me to initiate the completion of this business transaction, when he had held my money for a month. His tone was condescending, he refused to apologize for any part, and again repeated the statement placing blame on the women in the office. I asked why I hadn't received a receipt and written work up of the job, and he said yes, normally he did do that. I had to instruct this person to drop one in the mail to me immediately. Incredibly enough, when the 'gentleman' came to take the awning down, he was in a argumentative and discourteous state of mind.............what has happened to this company?!!!!!!!!!!
