Amazing! I had heard the horror stories of working with builders/contractors and was preparing myself for months of misery, but it turned out to be a great experience. We had gotten several estimates but we felt most comfortable with Matt Kelley of Evergreen Builders from the start as he really listened to our ideas and had great ideas of his own, and was detailed and realistic when discussing costs/budget. Once the proposal was signed, work started within a week. All the crews involved were a pleasure to have in our home. They were professional, polite, clean, and honest. We even had work continue while we were on vacation with the assurance that they could be trusted, and it was great coming home to such progress. Matt had great ideas and vision when it came to making my ideas work with the challenges of our existing basement (low bulkheads, odd locations of plumbing, access to water lines/cleanouts, etc.). He added in sconces in place of a recessed light (beautiful!), undercabinet lights in place of an overhead over the sink (looks great!), and things along those lines I'd never even think of. He was on site to check on the progress of the work most days and was available by phone or email whenever a question or concern arose (and I had A LOT of questions and he was VERY patient and professional.) Most of the project was completed within a couple weeks of the estimated time frame, though some small details at the end of the job dragged out somewhat. The work on the proposal was done within budget and the increase in expenses above the proposed costs were all due to our adding upgrades from our "extras wish list": things such as upgraded flooring, rock wool ceiling insulation for noise reduction, a new door at the entryway to the basement, the wet bar/kitchenette, etc.. There were no hidden costs or surprises at the end of the project.We are very pleased with the work of Evergreen Builders and would hire them back immediately for any other renovations in the future and recommend them highly. We've received many compliments on our new basement and the quality of the work, and it is now our favorite space in the house!

For us, Matt's flexibility and patience have been critical to the success of our projects. At times we have been indecisive and have changed our minds mid-project; Matt never hesitates to offer suggestions and guidance as needed while respecting those ideas that we feel strongly about. As a homeowner, renovation can be a stressful endeavor, but Matt Kelley makes the process smooth and enjoyable from start to finish.
