The work was completed within the timeframe. The crew began promptly at 8:00 or so each morning, breaking for lunch, and continued work through the afternoon. A project manager stopped by most days to check progress and touch base with us. I appreciated the promptness shown by the gentleman who did our initial visit. He was quick in presenting us with a proposal, offered ideas and alternatives. It was one of the nicer experiences with companies who provide homeowner services.

The price we pay them is for per visit. They’re really big and so if we want personalized service, we cannot get it from them. We have had 2 situations where they didn’t come, and we called the office and asked to have our account credited, and it was not. So I think they have a lot of office managers and they did not follow up when we asked them to credit our account. Their professionalism and the work they do are fine. They cut the lawn fine but there’s really nothing special. We haven’t really compared their prices. One time they used their wide mower in my back yard and they cut off part of my shrubbery. We weren’t real happy about that. We think they’re responsive coming out to the house. I would not say there were necessarily responsive in correcting my bill because they never called me back. They are punctual. The office folks and the folks who do the work are different. We’re looking around for a more personalized service and there so many landscapers out there. So we don’t need to go with someone who doesn’t do well with our billing. They have local TV commercials down which are great because they’re growing into a big business. We wonder if we’re paying for television commercials because what we really want is for someone to call us back.
Description of Work: We use Stewart. They come every Thursday to do our weekly lawn mowing, seeding and feeding every year.

Both Austin and Matt were responsive, attentive, and listened carefully to our requests. The crew, let by Merlin, arrived on time and went right to work. Sales person that came over did a good job selling the company. Said all the right things and was very likable. The project manager assigned to our job, Austin, was barely ever around so my husband would call our sales guy to ask about this or that, and to bring additional stuff to his attention that came up that wasn't in the initial design. He was diligent about sending us additional quotes for each additional thing. Our biggest mistake was not checking any reviews on the company or price checking them. Going back, I wish we did more design and price checking but this was our first experience ever with landscaping company so lesson learned for sure. We should have been smarter and had at least three contractors to compare with each other. When all said and done, I wish we had a better front yard to look at after spending so much money. Initially we held $10K in last portion of the payment back to get them to come back and fix our issues. They said it has to be all paid in full before they can do warranty work. The owner of the company came to go over the issues with us and said he'd get us some designs. There is no way we will spend any more money on the front yard. We paid down all but last $5K. Now we will just pay that last $5K and not deal with the company again. We were so thrilled with the company initially and the sales person who was very, very responsive that we asked them to design back yard for us around the pool. But now looking at my poorly done front yard - it is another issue we have to resolve with this company. I guess really it isn't sales guy resposibility to have a well done job. Maybe we just got a bad project manager who didn't care about our small residential job but I would recommend before you use this company to do complete due dilligence and comparison and micromanage them every step of the way. Below were our biggest issues: - Some plants died within few days and were never replaced even when pointed out to the project manager. - My husband clearly indicated we want to keep all our old plants and replant them in other spots in our yard. We didn't want to waist any of our existing plants. Most plants/ bushes that were out at the time work started were thrown away - they did replant few. This is a minor issues though. - The entire gardens (we have total of 5 including the ones at the entrance) were redone and old plants removed (supposedly) but few months later most of our our old plants from years before came back so now garden looks like a disorganized mess - There was supposed to be at least 2" of mulch. There was maybe 1" of mulch installed. Dirt in our gardens shows through and there was no cloth liner (not sure what the technical term for it is) installed but our old cloth we installed ourselves 2 years back is coming through in certain spots. So basically, the workers didn't install a new liner to prevent weeds from coming up but they didn't completely remove it either. - Lighting fixtures installed are all over the place - some are 5 inches from the edge of the sod, others are almost on the edge of the sod. Very uneven. There was one lighting fixture that we noticed, few days after being installed, being broken. My husband pointed it out to Austin (Project Manager that was barely ever present). He said he would take care of it. Few days after he "fixed" it, my husband noticed it was being held up by using a rock for a support. He never replaced the light. - I wish they presented me with lighting fixture options instead of just deciding for me and installing them without running it by us to ensure we are ok with them. But they are not terrible. - French drain was installed - our yard still remains wet. We were told it is due to the irrigation system. We turned off the sprinklers and we still have wet spots in our yard. - We provided the stone for our patio. They laid it out - did good job installing it but left hard piece of concrete stuck on the side of the patio. It should have been cut off while it was till wet. Now it is an eyesore and barely any mulch in our garden is not hiding it. - They did our deck work (small upper deck and small lower deck). Upper deck had some leaking issues once installed but they kept coming back and fixing it so we are happy with that work. The only part we didn't like on upper deck portion, there were two cut up pieces of wood that cover our gutters. Esthetically, it doesn't look that good and we are worried that if access is needed to our gutters for cleaning, it might be in the way and would have to be removed. We are still trying to figure out how to fix this with Gutter Helmet since they are coming out to do their maintenance cleaning in few weeks.
Description of Work: Installed irrigation system, French drain to prevent water sitting in the yard, lighting fixtures along our driveway, sod, garden work (soil, plants, mulch), installed patio (with provided stone).

We are very sorry the client has taken this dishonorable route. We at Stewart Landscape take pride in keeping our promises. We always seek to understand and correct any mistakes of our workmanship that may occur. Only after bounced checks, bank accounts that were shut down and months of false promises of payments that were coming did the issues begin. For 5 months this particular client was always happy and complimented the crew and account manager on the quality of our work. If they were holding money from issues they had, they simply didn’t explain those to us. At this point our contract with the client had been breached due to no payments or lack of any complaint for over 5 months, 7 months later we still wanted to take care of any of those perceived issues real or imagined. It’s hard to trust a client who has yet to deliver on their promises and agreed upon payment schedule The owner of Stewart Landscape as well as several Account Managers met with the customer to solve the situation by putting a plan in place that would go over and above any client expectations, even now after this horribly dishonest review we would still go over and above with this customer. To date they have promised to pay but we still haven’t received the 7 month past due balance. We hope the complaint will be resolved due to the fact that these complaints were never documented until after checks bounced and bank accounts were closed and there is still an outstanding balance. I can only say this as we had made many attempts to meet with the client to take care of any concerns; these appointments were made with promise of payments which were never kept.

Initial contacts with the company to get a "designer" out to draw up a plan and give estimate were okay. The very young man who came to do a child's sketch was nice enough and was happy to help. As I was gathering estimates for the exact same job from other companies, I got a coupon in the mail from Stewart for $150 off a landscaping job. I thought it was a good deal and decided to ask if they would honor it with the estimate. Got the phone call run around. Several times got disconnected from the office and don't understand why. The young "designer" called me about scheduling the job whereas I told him my experience with lack of communication about the coupon. He was apologetic and said they would honor it so I decided to go with them. The job was only a few hundred dollars off other estimates. We were going on vacation the week before it was to start when low and behold did I get several calls from them about the deposit which I had mailed prior to leaving. No problems with the phone lines then. When the time came down to do the job, they called and said they couldn't come on day 1 as someone for my job got sick and no one could come in that day (like they don't have other guys working). So they came the next day. First of all, the "designer" guy was not there. There was another man who had no clue to the design or the work I wanted done. He had a spray paint can to mark off things while I walked him around my property. This is pretty lame. a design sketch should have been in his hand instead, I asked about where the other guy was, and he said "He may be here later on". Basically, there were 3 laborers and no supervisor for the entire day of moving large bushes, installing sod, and smoking. The smoking I addressed right away on the first day while the supervisor denied it. The smell of cigarettes plus the butts I found lying around the yard later in the day confirmed. Very unprofessional. As the day went on (all the while I am taking care of my children), I was outside basically supervising the laborers, telling them where to put things, etc. They finished around 4pm. The next "work day" the office called me to say the crew couldn't come in that day as someone got bit by a bee and had to go to the hospital so they were short staffed. I guess he is in the wrong business to be dealing with bees, landscaping and all. They came on the "third" work day to finish the job. that consisted of installing the remaining sod, installing bed in front with a crepe myrtle, and mulching all the beds. I was not able to be on the property for this day as I am a busy mom and had several errands to run. I didn't think it would be a huge deal. Came home to mulch covering everything, I mean everything, hostas, rhododendrons, small ferns. Many of these perennials were completely trampled to death with mulch. I have never in my life seen such incompetence. Seriously, it is not rocket science to put down mulch and NOT cover the plants to death. I had to go around my yard and save them. Many are still in a state of shock but are doing better. I then called my "designer" about this problem and also about the fact that at least one of my very old rhododendrons was snapped by the mulch and I needed it to be replaced. Also told him that his crew of "laborers" didn't install any of the plants I had placed around my house. These were plants I had bought already. So, he said they would come back and fix the next day. Day "4" of fiasco landscaping job: Finally saw the original "designer: Austin" who came and walked around with me as I showed him crappy mulch job. He had no words of remorse or anything. Said the rhododendron looked old but he would "see about getting me another one". They stayed and tried to fix the mulch catastrophe. The left and I sighed. About 2 weeks after this the crepe myrtle that they installed (and I got from them), is looking a little pekid, even after daily watering. I had asked for a "dark purple" variety, the flowers are pink. I digress. I can't even bring myself to call them and complain about it. I really don't want them on my property again. They were only concerned with the money and getting the job done fast. I cannot recommend them to anyone. If I had another chance I would have gone with the slightly higher bid with a company that cared about my project and my plants.
Description of Work: Project was to remove landscaping in rear yard and install sod where bushes were removed or moved. Also mulch entire yard and install small flower bed and one crepe myrtle in front yard. they

The mulch was lighter than expected and applied thinner than expected. The estimate said approximately 2 inches of mulch but It was more like 1 inch and some areas thinned out to bare ground after a week or two. We ended up applying another layer of store bought mulch on top of theirs on 2 sides of the house. The plants were looking pretty sad after the first week or two but they started recovering after a few weeks later. We just felt cheated when it was all over. Will never use them again.
Description of Work: Removed two river birch tree stumps (I cut the trees down myself) and haul off debris. Scraped and mulched beds on three sides of house. Reduced one large mulch bed to about 50% of original size and replace area with sod. Clear and replant beds. Move some shrubs.

Poor quality plant stock for many of the plants installed. Had to make multiple calls to customer service to get dead plants replaced. Customer service employee came out to look at quality of plants and discuss concerns. She discussed our concerns to the owner who recommended rearrangement of existing plants and installing a different variety of shrub in parts of the bed area. This took over two months. Found debris in the soil that was installed. Truck left deep ruts in yard that were only marginally repaired after complaints. Did not mulch around existing plants until we complained. There was no follow-up on the job or care recommendation for plants.

I advised the original designer (Chris) that I wanted to try to stay close to the Angie's Big Deal of $899. The contract indicated the Project Total was $1,120; not bad--only $221 higher. Wrong; the total cost was $899 plus $1,120 ($2,019 total). Took me a while to realize that. Between an illness I had and the delays from Stewart, the deal passed the 30 day mark. I finally reached the point where I just wanted the work done. On installation day, I realized that the area was over-designed--too many plants for the the spaces. Was supposed to get 7 "Knock Out" Roses; they brought 3. The Heuchera "Palace Purple" plants were designed to to go in front of the Azaleas. The "installation" foreman advised they would be too large and block the Azaleas. They returned to use a different plant. 7 of the 9 Heucheras planted elsewhere looked like they were from a yard sale (no pun intended.) One has died and others are sickly. 2 weeks ago, they advised that Greg would contact me regarding that; nothing to date. I had to follow-up a couple times to get credit for the 4 "Knock Out" Roses before I paid the balance. When they removed a group of Tiger Lilies, they just ripped them up rather that removing the bulbs in the soil. So they started to pop up again, and I am now properly removing them. Overall, not a very good experience. I do NOT recommend Stewart. They seem to have too many employees that do not communicate well with each other in my opinion.
Description of Work: Not nearly as well as expected. The in-house communication among the Stewart Lawn & Landscape employees is not good. Commitments would be made and then broken. The work to be done was to remove all existing plants and one medium bush. Then landscape with plants recommended by Stewart.

Stewart Landscape cuts my lawn every Thursday around 10:00 am. They push mow my lawn like I ask and trim all my walk ways. The crew is great they say hi to me all the time. ( Maybe because i give them sodas all the time lol). I saw some weeds and called the office and they came out the very next day and sprayed it right away and took care of it. I'm looking forward to doing more business with Stewart. I highly recommend them for all your lawn and landscape needs.

I purchased the Big Deal on paver stone patio through Angie's list. The contractor responded fairly quickly to set up an appointment to come out and go over the design and other details. I added additional 100 square feet, so the size of my patio is 12 ft. by 18 ft.. The contractor gave us a tentative date of the July 7, with a possible slippage due to weather. I accepted the date, and I took vacation since I wanted to be at home when the work is to be performed. The contractor indicated they would call and confirm the appointment the day prior to the scheduled appointment date. However, the contractor did not call me the day prior to the scheduled work date, which was on the 3rd of July. On Monday, the 7th of July, I contacted the company and was told the person who does the scheduling was not currently available, and they would call me back that day with a new scheduled appointment. After some going back and forth with Angie's list (customer support) and the contractor, a date was finally agreed upon. I was notified the day prior to the scheduled appointment by the contractor. The contractor showed up on the scheduled date and was on time, and the job was completed within the time the contractor indicated. Overall, the contractor did everything they had promised, and the job was professionally done; the patio looks good. I'm happy with the overall price ($ 2,599) and the job that was performed. The only suggestion I have for the company is to improve their scheduling process with the customer in mind.

I purchased the deal - contacted the company - company came out to give me an estimate - I wanted a larger patio than the deal. This entailed extra cost. We were ok with that. Wanted to schedule a date- told me someone else would get in contact with me. Received a contract and wanted the pymt without a date of service - sent in $$. Waited a week no call, I called then I was informed that my name was on the scheduling meeting itinerary. Waited another week - called again - got same message. Gave Trisha my email because the company closes before I get home from work - she told me a date that they would start. I emailed back to say that date did not work with us - and gave other dates - never heard back - I called back again - apparently Trisha was not aware of my email. That day, when I got home there was a message on my machine stating they would be here the following day - again did not work - we were having a graduation party. At this time, I decided to cancel - it was too much of a wishy washy situation. The company offered to give me $250 off but I still decided against it.

It was amazing from the first contact with the girls in the office. I spoke with Trisha to set my appointment, and she was very professional and quick in setting the appointment-I had given her a strict timeline. I then (about 2 days later) met with Austin to go over the work I wanted, and a day later I received an estimate from Sara. I had a few questions, and revisions and Sara and Trisha both worked diligently to ensure it was handled efficiently-as I wanted this done before guests on Memorial Day arrived. The crew Austin brought out to install were quick and professional as well. They were very nice and made sure that they communicated with me every step of the way. I chose Stewart Landscape because of their great Angie's List reviews, and they service several houses in my neighborhood- the neighbors all speak highly of them. Upon turning on my sprinkler, I had some trouble- so they directed me towards Nicole, who I was told handles the complaints- She had Chris out the next day to help turn them on just in time for the weekend. So far my lawn looks amazing, and the sprinkler system they installed is wonderful. Thank you Stewart Landscaping for making my lawn superb!

They came promptly to look at what we wanted and the estimate followed in a few days. Once we payed the deposit, the work was scheduled and performed in a very short time. The work is a little expensive, but the workers were careful and knowledgeable, and the jb they did was excellent.
Description of Work: Basically a cleanup and mulching of several garden areas, plus planting of a redbud in our shade garden.

It was okay. We weren't terribly impressed. I think I would use someone else the next time. They inadvertently covered up one of our sprinkler systems in putting in a walkway. Then when the sprinkler system came on the next morning, it washed out what they had done. Then they were coming back several days to fix it. I wasn't happy with what they did and I wasn't here because I didn't know when they were coming. They didn't tell us. I waited and waited and finally gave up. They came when I wasn't here. I wasn't really happy with it. We haven't called them back. I guess, I should. I'm just over taxed right now for time. I need to have my husband call. He is better at that than I am. I was happy with it when they first finished it. But then I didn't realize the sprinkler head was buried. They should have seen it. It was very clear that it was there. I feel they just wanted to hurry and get it done. There was no way they could have missed it, because there was grout there before. Sometimes it's hard to find all the sprinkler heads, but they dug up that area to put in a stone. I kept telling them that I didn't like some of the pieces of stones. They did change some, but when they came back and fixed that one part that was on that step, it didn't look like the finished product it had 10 days or two weeks before. I was happy with the finished product in the beginning and I wasn't after. I don't think they did a real good job in replacing the sand. There is a few pieces of stone I wish they would replace. Everything else was okay. He is a very nice person. The first day that they worked, he came and checked on them and then we never saw him after that. I think a person that owns the company should come and see the finished product. I really was sort of waiting for him to come by and he didn't. I just wished he had returned to check on the job. Maybe he came when we weren't home. He might have, but he didn't leave any indication that he had been here. I know it's a busy time of the year, but that's his job. As a contractor he needs to do that. The guys that did the job were all very good. They were very gracious. They were here on time and they worked hard. They didn't bother us at all. These landscapers they do projects and people aren't happy with certain products. So I guess they have a place they take them back to and try to find something else that might make you happy. They put big stones down to make a path. They made two huge long paths. I'm handicapped and I couldn't stand on the stones. I don't have an ankle in one leg and the other leg has compensated for it over the years. So I've got severe arthritis in it. So it wasn't what I expected. They did take back about 5 or 6 of the stones and brought something else which weren't much better. They were better and I finally gave up because these are big, big stones. I was expecting them to be pretty much flat that people could easily walk on them. We didn't realize exactly what we were getting. Every stone is different size. They go to a stone yard where they sell all these things and they pick up stuff and then they hope that we can pass it on to you. It's hard. I'm sure they take them back to a place where they put left overs. That's what I understood from the guys. But the guys we very nice and he was nice when he came. After the other part of the job was done and they said, "We're going to fix it up." My husband sent the final check and should not have. He just figured they were going to fix it fine.

The company declined the work because they are "booked". As I understand they have more work than they can handle, the company could hire more people to facilitate the steady work a multi-year contract would provide. Obviously, the company is just too small for my needs.
Description of Work: I asked for a quote to provide lawn and landscaping services for my communities HOA. It would have resulted in a possible 2 year contract with an optional 3rd.

I'm very sorry to see that this Angie's List Member gave us a 'D' when we did no work for them. I'm not sure why he thought we were 'Booked'? Stewart Landscape has been in Business for almost 30 years-has steadily grown and added employees and crew's to accommodate that Growth. This member did not list their full address, but we did have a potential client with that Name in that General area that we worked with on a Small Enhancement Estimate last Summer-Our notes in the system indicated that they went with another company. Perhaps this Member needed the work done 'Tomorrow'. Of course we are booked out this time of the year! It's Spring Time and I would be concerned if any Landscape Company said they could take care of a customers project the next day. A typical Landscape Company, during the Busy Spring Season is booked out approx. 2-3 weeks or More. I only hope that other Angie's List Members will take into Consideration that this Member did not have any work done with us-only contact us about work they Probably wanted done 'Yesterday' and we couldn't accommodate that.
