Stewart Landscape did an awesome job installing my sprinkler system and new sod. They were fast and even worked in the rain during the install of the sod. This company is very good and competent at what they do.
Patio installation was fine, the rest of the project a complete waste of my time and money!. It started with Ron who came out and gave me the estimate for the project. There were no issues dealing with him, but once the project started it went quickly down hill. The first day they arrived unannounced to begin the project. After the first day of work, there were cigarette butts, fast food bags, tossed around my yard, Tools were left scattered around and my dogs actually started playing in the yard with the tools they left. I immediately called with my concerns and the next day was much better. The patio work was completed but I was left without a complete set of stairs for two weeks. The office actually called for final payment, and never even realized the job wasn't complete! After numerous unanswered phone calls, emails, and pictures that they had requested, that spanned across those two weeks I finally reached out to Ron directly. He informed me that was not how he runs his business and would get to the bottom of it. After another few days I was told that they previous "guy" who was supposed to complete the job never went to his jobs, ( that they company didn't realize )and that he was let go, and a new person would be out to complete the stairs. SO, after the stairs were completed, and the crew stopped showing up at my residence I assumed they were done? I had asked for instructions regarding the plants and sod, but nothing was ever given to me. No final walk through, nothing.... just the office calling for final payment. Within 2 months 80% of the sod is dead, and when I tried to speak to the office about this issue, they basically blamed me and said we didn't care for the sod properly. They sent Austin to our home to look at the yard, and of course never told us he was coming, so he went while we were not home. The result was Stewart blamed us for not properly watering and caring for the sod. They blamed us for removing a tree, and the slope of our yard. Funny thing, the tree was removed just 2 weeks ago after the sod had been dead for over 2 months! The slope of our yard?? You planted the sod on the slope, you should have known then we would have problems. But to add insult to injury the actually included a quote for aeration and seeding because they would be glad to do it for us!!! After that response I had requested to speak with Ron Stewart and was basically ignored once again. We were told he would call us by the end of the day, and of course there was no response. At this point I don't ever expect to hear from them again and highly doubt I would ever receive any satisfaction from my legitimate complaints. Do yourself a favor, and use any other company but Stewart! It's not worth the time, aggravation, poor customer service and lack of true customer service!!
Description of Work: Needed a new patio installed, new stairs to the existing slider, re-grading of the back yard to help with water run-off, and new sod.

Awful! Three guys showed up on 7/11 at 8:25 am. They proceeded to use one of my large drinking cups to empty the fountain of water. They then tried plugging in the electric to discover of course that it did not work. Just before 9:00 one knocks at my door and tells me its fixed. I go out back and I see an extension cord running to the front of my house. I asked about that and he told me to call an electrician. I said "You guys did the electrical work originally!!" He said , " Call an electrician". Than I ask about the hose. It wasn't fixed so I asked how did you get water back in fountain? He said we used your hose you use to water your grass! I told him I need you to fix it and he told me to go to Home Depot!! I again said I hired you to fix it. He again said go to Home depot but took a picture for his boss. I than asked about the floater to control when the water is turned on. He did not know anything about it and took a picture again for his boss. They left before the hour!! On Saturday 7/16 I received a bill for $241.00. I called on Monday 7/18 and spoke with Kelly. I agreed to $50/hour per man. I told her they weren't even there for an hour so where did the extra $90 come from? I than said you basically billed me for $241 for three amigos to run electric to the front of my house to tell me something I already knew! Also, for about 15 plus minutes I was telling THEM WHAT TO FIX!! She told my that the person who has access to see what they wrote on the work order was on vacation. I told her I was absolutely disgusted! It has been two weeks today and I have yet to hear from Kelly, the person on vacation and the project manager! What kind of company is this?? Kelly knew I was upset! She did not have the project manager contact me and apparently she did not inform the person on vacation either! Or call me to say she is still on vacation. Either way it has been two weeks and my fountain is not fixed! Totally ridiculous! Update, 7/29/2016: I am adding to my previous post. I called Stewart's on Wednesday 7/27 and spoke with Chris. I told him what had happened and I told him I'm not paying for three amigos to hook electric to front of my house. He said he would call me within the hour by 2:30 pm. Needless to say he did not. i than saw that Stewart's had emailed me that morning at 11:15 with a break down of labor from a Teresa. I called back on Thursday and Teresa answered. I told her what happened and again said " the ball was totally dropped no one has followed up with me about repairs. I am not paying!" Than a Ricki called me later that day and he is the project manager and he said, " his guys were just there to see if electric worked and they did not send him any pictures!" I said you should of followed up and this is not acceptable and somewhere between the office people, and your crew there was a break down in communication!" I said, " I'm not paying for a breakdown in communication. The guy I now hired came here with a device to test the electric. Your guys did absolutely nothing for $241." So just now I get a call from Kay 11:30 am 7/29/16! She says they agree that $241 is too much so you need to pay $150. I said " I am not". She said, "Well unfortunately we do not do electric!" Well than why the hell did you guys take this job on than. You couldn't even do the main thing that was wrong with my fountain!" I told her to take me to small claims court! This company should realize they totally dropped the ball in every aspect! From the office people, to the project manager! They should be apologizing to me and writing this job off but they still want $150! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH STEWART'S LANDSCAPING!
Description of Work: I spoke with Kelly in the office and informed her that I knew my water fountain's electric was not working and that the hose connection had rusted off. I needed them to get my fountain working.

DO NOT HIRE Stewart Landscape. Why do I say that? Let me count the ways. But first, let me start with the positive. I hired Stewart Landscaping to completely rework my front landscaping, which included a new paver walkway and plants. The walkway turned out great. The workers who built it did a great job. Now, the negative. Working with the people of Stewart is a nightmare. No returned phone calls. No replies to emails. Problems and concerns almost never addressed. As I write this, I’m still waiting for a return phone call from over a week ago from on-site project manger Austin and office contact Chris. Crickets. A few examples of how I reached the breaking point: A week after e-signing my contract and not hearing as much as a receipt confirmation, I sent them an email asking when I would see my final landscape plans, paver choices, start date, etc.. In response, I received a one sentence email telling me my start date. That’s it. This meant more emails and phone calls to find out the other basic information. Phone calls rarely returned. Twelve days later, after numerous phone calls , paver samples were finally dropped off. Actually, one sample. In a choice of 2 colors. That’s it. Quite the selection. I sent an email asking for more samples. No response. My next email was informing them I was pulling the plug on the project for lack of communication and my now loss of trust. That got a response. I was assured more samples would be delivered the next day, and to their credit, they were. When asked why only one stone was originally delivered, I was told that Ron, the owner and person who drew up the plan, thought that those pavers would work best with my house. Guess they assume the customer has no opinions or style ideas? We didn’t use Ron’s original pavers. There were several mis-communications during the building process. At one point I had to stop all work on the paver project until we could all meet in person at my house and speak in person. The problem was that nothing specific was put in the contract when it came to design, so when I initially walked though the design with Austin, the on-site manager, and discussed specific design elements, those thoughts didn’t trickle down to the workers, and they had to re-do some of the paver work. Then the project was completed. But I didn’t know it. It didn’t look finished to me, but the workers stopped coming. There were several areas where it looked like plants should go that were just empty areas of mulch. Some plants were awkwardly placed. It’s amazing to me that after paying a company over $15k for a front landscape overhaul, that I still have to go out to Home Depot and plant some more plants out front. They also planted some plants almost underneath a tree. Then I got a phone call from the front office asking for final payment and if everything was done satisfactorily. What? It’s finished? No phone call from Austin to tell me they’re done or final walk through? No explanation of what was planted or how to maintain them? The workers just stopped coming. I sent an email with photos outlining several things I wanted to have addressed, including putting back two very large and heavy flower pots back into position by the front door. They were left leaning awkwardly in the mulch bed. After a week of no response, I called Chris to ask if he saw the email, which he acknowledged. He tried getting Austin on the line for a 3-way conversation but was unable to. He promised he would have Austin call me directly. That was over a week ago. Still no call. But I did just receive an email proposal asking me to pay for 2 more plants to fill in one of the bald areas. Funny, I thought I just gave you $15k to plant plants. In conclusion, working with Stewart Landscaping was nothing short of a complete hassle and headache. Did they put in a nice paver walkway and put in some plants? Sure. But there are plenty of other companies out there who can do they same thing, Save yourself the hassle and headache. Call someone else.

Absolutely beautiful! I wish I could add before and after pictures! They were quick, neat and did an amazing job. The only complaint I have is the lack of communication. They were not great at returning calls and never actually scheduled the date of service. I came home from work one day and they were almost finished! However, being that they did do the work and did an amazing job, I would absolutely use them again and would / have recommended them to friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: Removed an overgrown garden in the front of my house and replaced it with a patio. Landscaped around the new patio to include using some of my old plants, adding new ones and adding a beautiful stone staircase.

Following are problems with the plantings: some are too large for the area, too many items are in a small space, cover BGE equipment, are too close to the front steps and cover half the steps and the railing, are so similar in foliage that different plants all look the same, are the same size (front and back rows), are not planted according to the plan, in the wrong place; i.e., cannot take the full afternoon sun. The items planted were small, and the following summer, 2014, the items had grown a little but were still small. In the spring of 2015, everything grew quite a bit, some to mature height. Three knock-out roses were planted near the front steps. One is planted so close to the front steps that it covers the railing and half the steps. No one can hold the railing for safety. Nandina and spirea are planted across the front. They are the same height, so there is no tier effect. And their foliage is so similar that they look like all the same plant. The spirea in front of the nandina have grown into each other so they look like a hedge. One nandina is planted directly behind the roses and cannot be seen at all. Two misplaced liriope were planted in front of the spirea, and now are totally covered over and cannot be seen. The butterfly bush was not planted at the corner, but in line with the front shrubs. So there is no soft transition from the front to the side, but a sharp angle. Also, a full size butterfly bush was planted instead of a dwarf. It is now approximately 15 feet wide and 15 feet tall. It covers the BG&E equipment making it impossible to access. And it completely covers other plants in both the front and side yards that Stewart put in. They put 10 heuchera next to the front steps, and they look half-dead or dead all summer because of the full sun. The installers did not leave enough room at the corner for all the liriope, so the workmen planted liriope in other places. When I complained to Stewart they sent a designer out. He said it would cost me $400 to remove the butterfly bush and one rose bush and transplant two other shrubs at the corner. After calling Stewart?s office, he said they would do it for $250. I asked why I had to pay for their mistake. Later that afternoon, someone from Stewart called me to ask if I had met with the designer and worked everything out. I replied that we met but did not work anything out. She asked if I had ever had Stewart come out to prune and tend to the garden. I replied that in the spring of 2014, they came out and trimmed all the plants, spread mulch, and dug the edge. Since they trimmed the azalea, I had no flowers that year. Azaleas are not supposed to be pruned in the spring. One week after our conversation she called back and said the owner agreed to do the work for $150. I once again explained all the problems, and asked why I had to pay for their mistake. She replied that the owner?s last offer was $150. I hired a landscaping company because I thought they were experts in design and would know what would grow in sun or shade or partial sun/shade. I thought they would take into consideration the mature size of plants. I assumed they would know foliage shape and color and what would look good together, they would recognize the corner of the house, and would know the correct season to prune plants. I could have gone to a big-box store, bought plants, and gotten the result I now have: plants that are too big, burn in the sun, show no differentiation in foliage or size, grow over the railing and front steps, and grow into each other to form a hedge. And I could have put too many plants across the front as Stewart did. My yard does not look like it was professionally landscaped. The attached photos show the huge butterfly bush, the three roses grown into each other and covering the railing and half the steps, the plants in between that all look the same, and the unprofessional appearance. Of course, the photos do not show the hidden plants under the butterfly bush and middle plants, and behind the roses.

It went very well. I came home after the work was done and everything looked beautiful.
Description of Work: They cleared out my whole back section which had become overgrown. They put down river rocks and cleared out some additional spots in the front and trimmed some trees.
I recently had a new garage built, and needed a walkway designed and installed from the driveway to the front entrance. The existing walkway was a crooked path of 2x2 concrete squares cutting across the lawn. They were discolored, sunken and impossible to keep grass from growing between them. Angie's List had a big deal promotion going with Stewart and I signed up. The timing was perfect. Stewart contacted me very promptly and set up an appointment to discuss the project. He showed up promptly, was professional and friendly. He looked at the site and came up with a real nice design. I selected the brick color and type right there. They called to schedule the installation and came on the day they promised. They worked for 3 days completing the job. I added some extra square footage as well as having them remove the old walkway, fill in low spots in the lawn and seed all the disturbed areas. They even carried and stacked all the concrete blocks removed from the old walk to the rear of my house so I could re-use them there. I am very happy with all the work that was done. I was also very happy with the price considering the work I had them do above and beyond the big deal pricing. No regrets at all, and I recommend them.
Description of Work: Removed existing ugly walkway. Designed and installed new brick walkway. Filled lawn low spots. Seeded disturbed areas.
(1,2) Re-grading did not initially occur and the sod was laid. When this issue was brought to the attention of the project manager, he was certain that the yard had been tilled and re-graded as he'd seen the equipment on site, however he had not observed the work being done. The team came back about a week later and ripped the sod which shocked it and took their shovels and tried to "spot" re-grade the land. This technique was highly ineffective. Another week later, the same team came back with the tiller and tilled, re-graded, back-filled with dirt and re-applied the sod that has now been ripped up twice. Now that we've had rainy weather for the last 3 weeks or so, it is clear that still something is not right with the yard. Drainage in part of the yard is horrible. In fact, an area of my yard resembles a swamp. A butterfly bush that was growing in that area had to be removed because the roots began to rot. The mulch that was laid back there now smells due to the standing water that never completely drains. I am now getting another consult with another company to fix that issue. (6) There were no problems demolishing the old patio, however the new patio was sloped. Upon asking the project manager to bring out his level, he then was able to determine that it was not even. In fact, one region of the patio was level, but other part wasn't. The patio was re-installed and it is level. I really like the design and the material. I anticipate problems with it because the area surrounding it does no longer drains. I'm not certain how long the patio will be able to tolerate these conditions. (3) The retaining wall was also installed sloped and crooked. On several occasions they have come out to add material or straighten out the stones. Although, I requested that some type of straight edge be used to be a guide to the installation. That has yet to happen. The flower beds were supposed to be backfilled with dirt to offer opposing pressure so that the wall doesn't fail. I went to purchase my own back soil and filled it in myself. (4, 5) Rebuilt and newly installed flower beds design are nice, however they too were not filled with dirt and only partially filled with mulch. One of the beds in the back clearly was not part of the re-grade process as it sloped very sharply downward. (7) Only enough material was purchased to adequately irrigate the front yard, not the front and back as requested. Overall, the work has been extremely sloppy. The crew left cigarette buds in my yard. They also left their equipment in the yard (e.g. rakes, shovels, tamper, etc). I actually tripped and fell on the irrigation hoses that were supposed to be placed in the front flower bed. Prior to applying mulch to the front bed, the decorative stones were not removed. I would have been happy to remove them, but later I had to go digging for them. Although, I have asked that another manager and the project designer come to my home site to assess the issues, that request has been essentially ignored. I have had to take off from work repeatedly to discuss this project gone wrong. There have been innumerous calls made. This project that was supposed to take 5 days at max had now gone on for 5 weeks and it is still not complete. I really have a problem when I am called and asked what material their team needs to bring to finish the project. When they were advised that they needed to come out to determine for themselves what was needed, the person that they sent looked at the front yard and left. I have lost all confidence and patience in this company. While they seemed to recognize that things are not quite right and they work to rectify, it has taken too many attempts to correct and still 5 weeks later it is wrong. I would never recommend this company. Prior to the work being started, I had to present this to the HOA for approval. Due to my enthusiasm and verbalizing how impressed I was with the designer, I gave out the contact information for this company and encouraged them to call. I sincerely hope that none of them did...
Description of Work: The original project was for a patio installation, however I had some other things that I wanted to be completed in my front, side and back yards. My property is small as I live in a townhome. The project extension included (1) re-grading of the yards which might include backfilling with dirt, (2) replace old grass with sod, (3) build a retaining wall that started in the from of my home and would extend partially into the side of the yard to add definition and curb appeal to my front yard, (4) remove old material from a previously built flower bed with stone edging (5) add a new flower bed also using stone edging (6) demolish small old patio, then build a patio in the back yard (7) install a Home Depot irrigation system with multiple zones for the front and back yards .

I decided not to use Stewart Landscaping due to the customer service I was (or wasn't provided). I figured, if I am treated like this before I even pay for service, most likely I would be treated even worse after they have my money. No quote, no follow-up, curtness after I initiated the follow-up. I can do bad all by myself. I would not use or recommend Stewart Landscaping to anyone in my neighborhood. Hoping this was an anomaly, but it was enough for me to shop elsewhere.

In the past, I had several bids on my project, but never felt like any of the contractors were the right choice. I put this project off for several years because I was not sure who to hire for the job. This winter, I joined Angie's List specifically to help me make decisions for my patio project. This spring, I noticed the Stewart's listings on Angie's List and started reading reviews and looking at their service offerings online. Finally, I purchased one of their deals. Stewart's entire staff were fantastic. All aspects of the project was on time and well communicated. When I had a question, they had an answer. Everyone was professional and the workmanship is top quality. One minor glitch happened and as soon as I pointed it out, they were quick to respond and make the correction. The crew arrived on time each day and put in a full day of work. When finished, they cleaned up and all I have to do is enjoy my new patio. The design is beautiful and I could not be happier with the overall experience. The area that I wanted finished was larger than the basic deal, but the additional square footage was also at the discounted price. In addition to getting a quality job, I also saved a lot of money. I will definitely use Stewart's again in the future if I have a landscaping need and recommend them to my friends and fellow Angie's List subscribers.
Description of Work: The back yard of my townhouse had always been unusable because it was not level. Stewart's created level usable areas and installed a paver patio surface, which now lets me use my entire back yard.

My reasons for the ratings I gave: 1. Failure to address and lack of responsiveness to my requests to have my lawn mowed a certain agreed upon way. Three contacts with you as well as three promises from you failed to fix this situation. I don?t intend to call after every lawn mowing to complain. 2. Failure to provide service in a timely, agreed upon time frame. When I contracted your service I was adamant about getting my lawn fertilized and weed control applied as soon as possible. Almost a month after contracting your service, and after receiving assurances that it would be done, it has yet to be started. I don?t expect to be out digging up dandelions when I have hired a lawn service. 3. Finally, your companies failure at good communication with me, your paying customer. I was informed on 05/04/15 that my landscaping project was to begin because all the utilities had finally been marked (which they have not ? the water line has yet to be marked). Why was I not informed of this new start date without my initiating the contact myself? I feel every time I call, I?m told ?happy? things to get me off the phone and that hardly ever come to pass. 4. After all of the above I receive a bill which included the cost of the lawn fertilization and weed control, which I did not receive. Did not get a call back as promised to take care of this problem.
Description of Work: The service mentioned above was only part of 2 other services contracted with this company.

I should mention first, that we have used Stewart twice before and received pretty good (though to us, expensive) service. But, this time was so different. We signed a contract on March 23rd and were promised that the work would be done that week. (Our house was on the market and we wanted it to look its best for the weekend.) After several days of trying to get them to schedule, they finally agreed to come out the next Monday-not what we were promised. They showed up late in the day and seemed to be in a rush to get done and out of here. It showed. In general, the work was sloppy and cleanup was very incomplete. After we complained, they returned the next day and did a little more, but still not satisfactory. Three specifics will illustrate the problem. 1. The pampas grasses were located down near our creek that leads to the bay. As we watched from our window, the person cutting them back, instead of picking up the trimmings, threw some into the water, then spread the rest around the lawn. 2. The lawn around the crepe myrtles was covered with the clippings, even after the return trip when they were told explicitly to clean up. 3. Finally, and hardest to believe, some of the pansies were simply stuck in the mulch instead of being planted in soil. My wife caught that just in time the next day and planted them before they dried out and died. When you deal with someone you have had good service from before, you usually want to give them a break if they have a bad day. But, this was well beyond the pale-unacceptable service. We will never go back to them.
Description of Work: General cleanup, esp flower beds. Trim back pampas grass and crepe myrtles. plant several flats of pansy.

Our backyard went from a mud pit to a beautiful work of art. It transformed how we use our house. The work was beautiful all around. On top of the great job, their workers were professional and very pleasant to work with while they were there. I would recommend Stewart's and have plans to use them again.

I am a 9-5 white-collar worked so I had to take a half of a day off for a 2 pm discussion about the project. 2 hours before the scheduled appointment I received a call letting me know that they would need to reschedue because the person that was coming had to tend to a sick spouse. I guess they only have one person that can come out and discuss your needs. My guess is that they have enough business to keep them busy because they did not show much interest in obtaining mine. Otherwise they seemed nice. Just not accommodating.
Description of Work: We have some water issues in our back yard and we were looking to get a couple of quotes. We contacted 2 companies that seemed to have experience in this particular work. Stewart's would not take appointments for discussing the project after 2pm and then called the day of to reschedule the appointment.

.Stewart Landscaping is great, Austin the account manager was amazing to deal with. He walked us through each step of the process and explained everything to us in great detail. The office called the day before coming our to do our work. They even called Miss Utility for me. I highly recommend Stewart Landscaping, I will continue to use them for future projects.

Stewart Lawn and Landscaping is horrible! Will never use them again On first try the job was completed and the results were horrible with glue everywhere and looking nothing like the examples we showed the estimator. Trying to reach anyone was difficult. After they responded and the crew supervisor came out the job was done again and the results were even worse. After another call a supervisor came out and admitted the job was sub standard. He promised to go back to the office and contact us the following day with a plan. Almost a week later we heard nothing from the company as promised but a crew and repaired most of the repair job, while we were at work. Still no contact from the office. A few days later the remaining work was completed. The final job was not what we had hoped or promised but was satisfactory. Still, we heard nothing from the company. Finally they started hounding us for the remaining balance on the bill. No contact from the manager who visited or even anything remotely resembling an apology or a discount based on the poor service we received. The following morning we just paid the final invoice to end the nightmare. The clerk promised to record the payment and email us a receipt for the credit card. This never happened. The following day my wife received a threating phone call again from the company about payment. I followed up with a phone call and they verified their mistake but still no apology. Nor was a credit card receipt received as promised. Stewart will promise to do anything you want on the sales call but the final product will be nothing like what was promised. The management at Stewart will never return your phone call or email unless you repeatedly call back. Stewart obviously takes no pride in the product they produce. Never, ever trust Stewart with any of your lawn or landscaping work.

There absolutely wonderful, came on time, cleaned up beautifully, the workers were fantastic, and they were very helpful when I needed information. They were wonderful. I was so happy with their services, they will be doing my back yard soon.
Description of Work: They completely got rid of ivy and built walls and sidewalks and put surfacing on our steps. They did a total landscape. They have a designer who works with you to get exactly what you want.
