+ 0 moreExcellent from beginning to end. Both the sales and installation went without a hitch. While I could have gotten less expensive windows from another larger company, I was confident that I would not just get a good product, but that General Home Improvement would stand by their product if there were any problems. The installation team (headed by Roger) were great and everything was done in one day. They then very graciously helped me move my furniture, air conditioners, etc. back into place. I had some minor questions after the installation and I was able to reach Chris just as quickly as during the sales process. I would definitely use them again for any other projects where they provide services. I am enjoying my new windows tremendously.
Description of Work: General Home Improvement removed 19 windows (old from 1932 wood windows) and replaced them with new windows.

Although there was a problem with the first door received from the factory, Chris offered to replace with a door of higher quality and value in the interest of finishing the job in a reasonable time frame. In the end he managed to get the original door that we ordered more quickly then anticipated. The door is installed, no problems at all. I am very pleased with the service and the quality of the product. Would use this company again.

+ -1 moreWent well. Workers showed up on time, prepared, pleasant, mannerly and most of skilled in their trade. It was an all day job, they stopped ONCE for a 15-20 min break. They took down the old doors, replaced with new and cleaned up. Owner Chris came by after to make sure everything went as scheduled and that I was satisfied with the work done. Indeed, I am. I am a happy customer who would recommend/refer business to Chris. Several neighbors have commented on how beautiful the front door is. It truly is, and most importantly, the COLD drafts of air are gone. Anxious to see my next BGE bill.

+ -1 moreWe ordered the Big Deal in October and they came out to measure for the door soon after we placed the order. They said it would be about three week for the door to be made. However, when the door was ready the weather was not and we agreed to postpone the installation until after Thanksgiving. The weather was still cold and rainy, but Chris, the owner, said they would do the job on a Sunday if we agreed. They came exactly as they said on Sunday though it was still cold.but sunny. It was a very efficient and quick job so our house did not get too cold with the big opening. It took about two hours and the two installers were great.. We were very surprised that they would schedule on a Sunday but it suited us fine and we were very grateful to have it done. It looks great and works so much better than our old door. Chris was very easy to get in touch with and always answered his cell phone when I called. It was a pleasure to work with this company.

+ 0 moreGeneral removed the Gutter Helmut system I had installed on my house and in its place installed a fine mesh leaf block. I am very happy with the product. Water actually goes into my gutter now!!! The work was performed quickly and nicely done. My only complaint is minor, that being small pieces of trash and screws left behind. I would definitely call them again.

+ -1 more.We accepted a deal which was offered on Angie's List to have our old patio door replaced. In a short time we were contacted by Chris to make an appointment to visit the premises and measure for the new door.. A few days later Chris came by and measured and explained differences in our old door and the new door which would be installed. Our old door had settled somewhat due to weakness beneath the door and was very difficult for us to open and lock. At the time measurements were made we were given a 2 to 3 week window for the actual installation. We were very concerned about our tropical birds with colder weather approaching and having the opening bare for hours during installation. In less than two weeks after we signed the contract our new door was being installed. The workers did a great job in a very timely manner. Before they left our patio was just as clean as it was before the installation. They took time to explain operational features and we are very satisfied with the quality of material and labor. Needless to say, our birds never suffered from the cold weather because of the advanced installation date A short time after completion of the installation we were contacted by Chris to check on our satisfaction with the door and installation.

They gave an assessment and I did not get charged more than I needed to for them to fix something. They came in and took a look at the problem he said it was pretty much a supply line issue and he locked out the supply line and I haven’t seen a leak into my son’s room since.

+ -1 moreI am not tickled that I agreed have him shave and sand parts of the door down because the security gate knob scrapped the wooden door. The security door and transom provide a better seal from the elements though the aesthetics are not optimum. Paul did a great job with clean up and could explain the concerns I had effectively.
Description of Work: Today Paul installed the front door transom glass to complete the project which consisted of security door purchase and installation and transom glass. The glass was $60 but installation was $250. Door was approximately 400 but installation was $395 ( ouch). Angie's deal was not quite the big deal. Paul placed note with temp address on new transom. He had to revisit installation of security door. There were jamming issues to resolve with the contraction and expansion of wood as the climate changed.

+ -1 moreOverall, I did not receive the merchandise ordered, evnthough Door and Window Warehouse were in receipt of my merchandise from ProVia. After more than 30 days since my initial deposit was made, Door and Window Warehouse cancelled my order in retaliation for my BBB and Attorney General office compliants.
Description of Work: I bought a storm door from Door and Window Warehouse in August 2005. Recently, November 21, 2012 I contact them as my stained glass panel was broken and I wanted to reorder it. Allen told me the company (Sugarcreek Industries) was no longer in business and the model I bought was discontinued the same year in 2005. He contacted ProVia and they agreed to make a similar design, stained glass only on one side, not both as the original. At the same time I asked to return my lock which the brass handle had some chips in the finish and was covered by the original warranty, which ProVia agreed to honor. I paid the deposit for the custom made glass panel and replacement lock, a total of $274.24 on December 1, 2012. I received a telephone call on December 10, by Allen informing me that the replacement brass lock had arrived and I could come in and bring the old lock. My custom order glass panel was due to arrive January 7, 2013. On December 17, I called the store to confirm their closing time, and I was told 4:30pm eventhough the posted hours stated 5pm. I arrived at 4:24pm and there was a vehicle with a trailer parked in front and a man leaving the store and entering his vehicle. I parked in their established Door and Window exclusive parking area and noticed that 2 men, both parked next to me walked around the corner of the store and entered their vehicles. They passed me as I walked around to the front door, to only find the store was CLOSED. I beckoned to the one of the gentleman who turned the corner and was obviously looking in the opposite direction to avoid me. I called and left a message regarding the incident infront of the store and of course no one returned my call. I went to the nearby post office and sent the lock certified mail to Door and Window Warehouse, which was received the next day. Still no return call. I filed a BBB (Metro Washington DC & Eastern PA) complaint, #9341204 which appeared to be a waste of time, and as you know, merchants "pay to play." My request of Door and Window was to please send my replacement lock to me. They claimed this was not possible, eventhough it was shipped from ProVia to them. During my recourse with BBB, Door and Window Warehouse cancelled my custom glass door panel and refunded me my deposit approximately 5 days prior to the much anticipated January 7, 2013 delivery date when they became aware of my Attorney General complaint. By the time I recieved the letter and notification, I contacted ProVia and they assured me that the glass panel order was NOT cnacelled and was scheduled for delivery as committed. I informed them regarding Door and Window Warehouse actions and they informed me I could purchase the custom order glass panel at another retail store in my area, as I drove quite a distance to encounter the unprofessionalism at Door and Window Warehouse. Since then the Attorney General office pursued my compliant and Mr Michael O'Leary informed the Attorney General office that they "threw" the glass panel out and no longer had the custom ordered glass panel which they claimed that the order was cancelled to the BBB. Also, Mr O'leary informed the Attorney General office that "if I had paid cash, they would've been willing to provide the glass panel." This Attorney General complaint MU-222140 will be public record for 3 years. Please remember, they cancelled my order per BBB recourse and sent me my refunded credit card receipt, which I did not request 5 days prior to the delivery date of January 7, 2013. The unprofessionalism of this company speaks volumes as a family owned business. I would not recommend that my worst enemy do business with them. The good news to all is that you can go to the ProVia website enter your zipcode and you will find many reputable merchants that offer the same products and better customer service.

Brian sent a technician to take measurements and then ordered the door. 4 week later, the door arrived and was installed by Paul and his team. Paul installed the new door and took away the old door for us. The door works well. Paul was very professional and gave us some advice on maintenance of the door and frame.

I first called Wheaton Doors, and after a long salesy approach I learned that the price they were going to charge me was WAY more than I had intended to pay. Also, we got 45 minutes into picking a door only to have the salesman realize (after much prompting on my part to check my unusual door size) that the door we had been discussing was not available to me. So Door and Window warehouse was a breath of fresh air. I went to their warehouse, had a good chat about my interests, and paid for the door openings to be measured. Paul, their installer, is a door master. He determined that in fact my doors could take standard sizes (it seemed like they couldn't), so the number of door options was suddenly much greater. Also, he provided very useful advice to me - particularly that an all-wood door (which I was attracted to for looks and price) offers a very low R-value compared to other doors, and that I might be unhappy with that decision when the cold winds blow or the July sun beats down. He was very low-key but very smart and thoughtful, and his 30 years (or 40 or whatever) of experience were super helpful. Then back to the store - and this part I will confess got a bit tedious. I thought it would just be like 45 minutes to make the final door selection and be out, but it was almost 2 hours. There was nowhere to sit, and I got really tired (I have physical limitations). My sales guy was really nice and not pushy, but he wasn't familiar with some of the brands he introduced as options, and so we got completely bogged down for a while. Finally I just decided to eliminate the brands he wasn't familiar with, because I couldn't see how we could make a good selection based on his knowledge of them. Luckily, we chose excellent doors (Provia), and got through all the decisions at last. It took a month for the doors to be ready, and then I had the pleasure of having Paul back to put them in. My house is old and quirky, but to him it was nothing. I had the utmost confidence in his work, and the result was excellent. My doors look great, they are better quality than i thought I could afford, and they are perfectly installed. All for about 40% cheaper than Wheaton Doors was quoting. What a great experience!

+ -1 moreI told them I was a member. They apparently didn’t honor the 10% Angie’s List discount that they advertised. The service was alright, they did a nice job. What bothered me was no one checked to see that I was actually satisfied. I did call to have the head man come back because it was too hard for me to lock one of the windows. Now when I do it it’s much easier, I think it was a matter of me getting used to it.
