Ernie was AMAZING! I called for an estimate on Friday before labor day, and was basically freaking out, because I knew it was going to be an expensive job. Ernie first scheduled to come out and see the place on Monday (labor day) morning, and later called back to see if I was available that afternoon because he could tell I was so stressed - mostly because I had no idea how big of a job it was going to be. From the estimate to the completion of the job Ernie was great, friendly, professional and considerate. He got the job done as quickly as possible, causing the least amount of damage to the walls he had to go through and cleaning up after himself. Any future plumbing issues, I'm calling Cobra without hesitation and will recommend him to anyone who needs help! Thank you so much for making a stressful situation so much easier to handle!
Description of Work: I have an old house, and one of the pipes that can only be accessed by cutting through the wall had to be replaced because it was cracked.

Just home from vacation, hot water in bathroom wouldn't turn off when turned on and valve under sink was frozen. My husband tried minor repair which was unsucessfull. I called Ernie (who ALWAYS answers the phone) and he arranged to come the very next morning first thing. He also advised me on how to turn off the hot water which could not be turned off at either faucet or frozen valve. Ernie came at 9am the next morning, and took care of most of the plumbing work and arranged to return the next morning to replace the faucet. He called the next morning to tell us he was running a little late, which was appreciated. In addition, he adjusted the "flapper" of the toilet in another bathroom. Great job, quickly and efficiently accomplished. Ernie is easy to work with and very personable. I find his prices a tad high, but I competitive, however, he gave me the Angies list discount he offers without even being asked!
Description of Work: Our ancient hot and cold water faucets in the main bathroom were not able to be turned off and both valves under the sink were "frozen". Ernie replaced all the plumbing involved, which required installation of new "nipple", braided supply and new shut off valves. In addition he supplied and installed a new Moen faucet assembly and all related plumbing.

We called to fix a clogged toilet. Ernie came out the next day and snaked it out. When we asked him about an issue with out second toilet, he advised us that both were twenty years old and calcified. It was time to get new ones. He offered to sell us a good mid line product, but was happy to let us do some research and didn't charge us anything for the initial visit. When I concluded that we wanted to buy Toto Drake toilet which were a little more expensive, but had fantastic reputations, he got them for us at a good price, installed them two days later, on time, in and out in one hour. (He would have come a day earlier, but we weren't home. He gave us a $ 50.00 rebate for doing both at one time. Nice guy. Good work. I would definitely use him again.

FANTASTIC!!! ERNIE TAYLOR ARRIVED AT MY HOME TO ASSESS THE PROBLEM AND ADVISE ME OF WHAT ACTION WAS NEEDED WITHIN 2 HOURS OF MY PHONE CALL. HE DROVE UP IN A MODERN, CLEAN, PROFESSIONAL COMPANY VEHICLE, WITH ALL THE TOOLS AND GAUGES HE WOULD NEED TO GIVE ME A COMPLETE RECOMMENDATION ON THE SPOT. HE THOUGHERLY CHECKED IN AND OUTSIDE MY HOME, EVEN HELPING ME (I'M DISABLED) CLEAN OUT THE CLOSET TO GET TO THE WATER VALVE UNDER MY STAIRS. HE EXPLAINED WHAT HE FELT NEEDED TO BE DONE IN AN EASY AND CONCISE MANOR, USING NO "SCARE TACTICS". I APPRECIATED HIS KNOWLEDGE AND HONESTY. CONTRACTORS SCARE THE BEJESUS OUT OF ME. THAT'S WHY I JOINED THE LIST. WE AGREED TO DO THE WORK. HE AND HIS CREW ARRIVED RIGHT ON TME, AS SCHEDULED ,"WOULDN'T YOU KNOW, ON A RAINY DAY", AND GOT RIGHT TO WORK, KEEPING ME INFORMED EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. THEY PUULED THE OLD PIPE AND BURIED THE NEW COPPER WITH MINIMUM DIGGING AND MESS. THEY ARE VERY UP TO DATE ON THE LATEST PROCDURES IN THEIR INDUSTRY. ERNIE THEN REMOVED AND REPLACED MY SUMP PUMP AND NECESSARY PIPEING ALONG WITH A CHECK VALVE "WITHOUT ME HAVING TO ASK HIM" WHICH I LEARNED LATER IS NOT ALWAYS DONE, BUT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND MEETS CURRENT CODES. I FELT VERY SECURE THAT HE AND HIS CREW WOULD DO THE RIGHT THING EVERY STEP OF THE WAY AND THEY DID! WHEN FINISHED, ERNIE SHOWED ME EVERY THING THEY DID AND EXPLAINED WHY, INCLUDING EXTRA FOAM INSULATION HE USED TO SEAL THE ENTRY POINT OF THE COPPER INTO MY HOME. I WILL SAY COBRA WAS NOT THE LOWEST BID BUT WAS WELL WITHIN THE MEDIAN PRICE. I LEARNED LONG AGO, "THE CHEAP TURNS OUT EXPENSIVE" ESPECIALLY IN THESE DESPERATE ECONOMIC TIMES. YOU MUST BE CAREFUL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS OF CONTRACTORS THESE DAYS. THEY ARE LIKELY TO TAKE ON WORK BEYOND THEIR FIELD OF EXPERTISE. COBRA IS NOW THE ONLY FULL SERVICE PLUMBING COMPANY THAT I, OR MY FAMILY, WILL USE. IF YOUR NERVOUS ABOUT A PLUMBING CONTRACTOR, THIS IS THE CONTRACTOR YOU'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR. HIRE THEM. PS. WHILE I WAS TYPING THIS, MR.TAYLOR CALLED (WE'VE HAD DOWNPOURING RAIN FOR 2 DAY'S) TO BE SURE THE PUMP WAS OPERATING AND THAT THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH ANY OF THE WORK. WHEN IS THE LAST TIME A CONTRACTOR FOLLOWED UP WITH YOU WHEN A FAILURE IN HIS WORK OR EQUIPMENT WAS MOST LIKELY TO OCCUR ? NEED I SAY MORE ?
Description of Work: COBRA INSTALLED NEEW COPPER WATER LINES FROM THE CITY MAIN TO MY HOME, REPLACING POLYBUTYL PIPES USED BY CONTRACTORS IN THE 80's. THIS PIPE IS NOTORIOUS FOR LEAKING WITH AGE. THEY ALSO REMOVED MY OLD SUMP PUMP, CLEANED THE WELL, AND INSTALLED A NEW PUMP, PIPES AND CHECK VALVE.

Ernie was very responsive and provided an estimate the same day we called. Arrived on time, was neat and professional throughout the job. The whole job was completed within a few hours. He was able to run the copper through the ground using the existing water main, minimizing the excavation (only a four by four hole at the water main was required). He even came back to replace a defective water heater release valve and did not charge extra.
Description of Work: Replaced the water main to our home, including excavation of a small hole at the water utility, running the new copper water main, new hookup inside, and addition of an expansion tank to the water heater.

Called for an appointment and was told that the earliest appointment they had was two days away. He asked what exactly the probleme was. When I told him that one of the toilets was making "gurgling" noises and the appointment was well within what I was expecting. Expecially since I was calling on a Sunday night. When they heard what the problem was I was told that it could turn into something not too pleasant very soon. He would try to work me in the next day. Glad he did because later that night two of the toilets and the bathtub started backing up. They called the first thing next moring, told me they could work me in later that day of early that afternoorn. He came when I expected him took care of the problem very neatly. Took time to explain to me how I could avoid having that problem in the future.
Description of Work: Had a sewer line backing up into the house. The toilet was removed. Snaked out. The clog was located and removed. Replaced with new wax ring, baided water line and cleaned everything as it was when he arrived.

Ernie arrived early and called me from outside in his truck to ask if it was ok for him to start earlier than scheduled - yes! He was very pleasant, polite and professional. He looked at the two tasks and told me what needed to be done and what the cost would be. I thought the cost was quite reasonable. He provided useful information as he was working and alerted me to issues that might be coming up in the future.

Ernie from Cobra Plumbing runs a fantastic business. He is prompt when called and helpful in his advice. Ernie is always quick, yet meticulous and very considerate of keeping the work area clean (which is especially important with small children in the house.) Cobra Plumbing is a reputable company for plumbing, HVAC, etc. We would highly recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: After assessing our lack of hot water issue, Cobra Plumbing replaced the heating elements in our existing water heater. Also, Ernie purchased and installed a subsequent 60-gal heater for our home as well as correcting some plumbing leaks related to the existing water heater.

He arrived exactly when promised. He is a very friendly person. We quickly were on a first name basis. I expected additional work to be needed due to the leak. Ernie installed our new faucet and adjusted our hot water shut off valve which was previously stuck. I am an educated consumer and expected our hot water valve to need to be replaced since our home is 21 years old and the valve was original. Ernie quickly adjusted the valve so now it works. He could have charged me to replace the valve but he fixed it without additional cost. It is a pleasure working with an honest person. He did a nice job cleaning under the cabinet where we had the leak. After he installed our faucet I asked how I could replace the chrome trim pieces around the pipe going into the wall coming from the tiolet. They were rusted and looked bad. I thought the pipe would have to be cut to replace the trim. He knew a better way and changed the trim pieces in 3 bathrooms for free. My wife loves the new faucet. It works so much better and gives the kitchen an upgraded appearance. I was happy to get the leak fixed at a fair price.
Description of Work: Our kitchen faucet had been loose for years. I had been putting off the repair due to remodeling several other rooms in our home. The pipe going into the faucet started leaking due to years of movement. We purchased a new Moen faucet to match our stainless steel kitchen appliances prior to the repair.

I located Ernie here on Angie's List. I called him immediately after the pipe burst. His first question was did I know how to shut the water off, I said yes, and it had been done! Then he informed me that he couldn't come to see the problem until the next morning and began to offer a referral. I quickly let him know that I found his name on Angie s List and would wait. Well, the next morning I called very early, I could hear that I woke Ernie, yet he was very pleasant and assured me he would arrive at my home within the hour. Forty-five minutes later Ernie arrived and went straight to work. He used a drop cloth on the floor and cut an extremely neat section from the ceiling in my bedroom to locate the broken pipe. After locating the pipe, he removed and replaced the affected region. Given that this was an emergency, I don t have a cost reference. I can only say that I was comfortable with the cost. Thank you Ernie for being calm and collected, you helped me through this crisis.
Description of Work: Ernie cut out a portion of the bedroom ceiling to locate the leak. He found that the water line had frozen then burst sending water from the second floor bathroom to the downstairs bedroom and other areas of the house. He removed and replaced the affected pipe. We then turned the water on to test the new connection; worked well.

I contacted this firm on a Sunday not expecting to get a live person. However, the owner picked up and discussed my plumbing issue with me. Although I am a layperson when it comes to plumbing, using such terms as "thingy" and "silver piece" this owner was not only able to discern what my plumbing problem was, but to give me an estimate as well. We agreed upon a time and date for him to come by, just 2 days beyond when we spoke originally. He showed up on time, did the work, and billed as quoted.

We found Cobra Plumbing(Ernie Taylor)on Angie's List. This is the second or third time we have used Ernie Taylor's services. Ernie works alone, sets up his own appts and answers his phone immediately or calls back promptly if I have to leave a message. He was readily available to come to our home to discuss and estimate the jobs we wanted done, and again was able to schedule the work within a week after I called with the go-ahead. He courteously answered my follow-up questions and recommended suppliers for the parts we wanted to choose ourselves. He did the work on the scheduled date, and although his arrival was delayed, he called twice to let me know why and to reassure me that he was on his way. Upon arrival, he went straight to work and completed everything in about four hours. He explained that the air gap for the dishwasher could be reconnected under the sink, which gave us an option for installing the kitchen faucet that we had not realized when we selected the faucet. This required a call to my husband at work to consult on a decision. Ernie was able to install the new outside hose bib without having to chip away a lot of stucco material-no need to repaint, which is nice. All of the work was neat and well-done and he did a good job cleaning up, taking all packing materials with him. Ernie also tolerated our very nosy dog.
Description of Work: Furnished and installed two new water saver toilets; furnished and installed new laundry tub faucet; furnished and installed new frost-free outside hose bib; installed new owner-purchased kitchen faucet. All were replacements for existing units.

He should get a five star rating. He was timely and his costs were reasonable. He was just a very pleasant young man. I will continue to use him in the future.
Description of Work: He has done several things. I had a shower faucet problem and also a problem with an antique bathtub. They were water leaks and he fixed them both very well. I also had a problem with pipes that burst from freezing in an out-building. He took care of that. He also serviced the water conditioner and water softener equipment that I have. As far as I'm concerned, I have a new plumber and I'm happy.

Called Ernie on a Thursday to have him come and provide me an estimate and to evaluate my 17 year old leaking water heater. Ernie came the next day and based on the age of the water heater I decided it was cheaper in the long run to replace it with a new more energy efficient one. Ernie was very quick and did a terrific job installing the water heater and keeping all the plumbing connections neat and tucked away.
Description of Work: Called Ernie to have him come out and evaluate my leaking water heater, after talking with Ernie I decided to replace my old water heater. I called 5 plumbers to get estimates. Cobra Plumbing's was the second lowest at $2,600. Ernie Taylor is the owner and he came out the day after I called him to provide an estimate. Ernie explained that he would use an underground "missile" to replace the pipe. He would have to cut through some sheetrock in my basement, cut a hole in th basement wall, run the missile underground and excavate a hole in the front yard near the water meter. The pipe would then be pulled through the tunnel and connected to the main plumbing in the house and the water meter. Ernie showed up on time on labor day with a backhoe and two other men to perform the required excavation. From start to finish the job took about four hours and could have been done quicker had the utility company not been late in marking the underground utilities. While waiting for the utility company, Ernie installed new copper piping in my basement and capped off the old pipe. Because my basement is finished, Ernie had to cut through the sheetrock to poke the hole in the basement wall for the missile and also to install the main shutoff valve and run the new pipe through the basement ceiling into the unfinished laundry room to connect it to the house's plumbing. The excavating crew ran the pneumatic missile from my house to the hole they had dug near the meter. At all times they were careful about steering clear of the gas line and electricity line. The work went smoothly as the missile was right on line and came out near the meter. Ernie pulled the new copper line through the tunnel, using the thickest grade copper designated by building codes. Once everything was hooked up Ernie cleaned up the work areas inside the house as the hole was filled in and the ground restored to its original condition as nearly as possible. In all, Ernie exceeded my expectations, performing the work quickly and professionally. It is clear that Ernie, who is a master plumber, is very experienced and knows how to perform even the most complicated of plumbing tasks efficiently and effectively. I was so impressed with Ernie's work that I recommended him to a neighbor with the exact same problem. Ernie did the job for my neighbor. I have since called Ernie to do other plumbing tasks around the house including the replacement of a broken faucet and spigot in the bathroom. At all times Ernie is prompt, on time, calls ahead of time, and is reasonably priced.
Description of Work: Excavate and replace polybutylene piping that provides the main water service to the house. Cobra plumbing used an underground missile as more fully discussed below to do the job. The polybutylene pipe installed by the builder had deteriorated and cracked between the water meter and my house. The pipe runs underground and began leaking outside the house, flooding the front yard. I was able to tap into my neighbor's water while getting estimates on the necessary repair work. I learned that there are basically three ways to do the repair. The first, and my least desirable alternative was to dig a trench from the water meter to the house using a backhoe. Second, is trench less pipe replacement, where a cable is run through the old pipe from inside the house to the water meter. Then the new pipe is pulled through the old pipe from the meter to the house. The success rate for this method is about 70%. Failure can occur because the original pipe may have been cemented into the foundation or a 90% bend in the pipe as it comes up from under the house and through the floor may cause the new pipe to kink. Also, because the basement floor would have been jackhammered around the pipe where it comes through the floor I was not too excited about this alternative either. The third method is to drill a hole in the wall of the basement and use an pneumatic device known as a "missile" to blast an underground tunnel towards the water meter. A hole near the water meter would then need to be excavated to feed pipe through the tunnel, into the house and connect it to the water meter. As this seemed to be the least obtrusive method this was the approach that I wanted to pursue.
