My husband and I couldn?t be happier with the work done by JD Masonry. Our front steps desperately needed repair/reconstruction and we were interested in options other than our original brick. John was very helpful, professional, and extremely easy to work with. He spent time with us and gave us 3 or 4 options and price ranges, all of which were very reasonable. We finally chose granite steps and they look terrific! John and his crew were prompt, dependable, hard working, polite, and when they left you would never know that they had been there. Any kind of debris was removed and taken along with them. What struck us was the pride John and each one of his crew members showed in their work. Everything had to be ?just right.? I would highly recommend JD Masonry. I know that when we need any kind of masonry work done we will most definitely call JD Masonry!

In 39 years of home ownership, I have never had a better experience with a contractor. I'm very pleased with the results. John came when he said he would, did what he said he would, and continually asked for input and feedback. He was able to capture my vision of the job and make it happpen. He is easy to work with. And he did a thorough clean-up!

Our crumbling front stairs needed attention. John looked at the stairs and presented several options from simply re-pointing the stairs to replacing them altogether. We opted to have the brick treads replaced with blue stone and the stucco risers faced with brick. They look great! John and his masons are great to work with. I didn't like a couple of the bricks that were used for the risers,so the mason sawed them out and replaced them at no extra charge. Also, one of the blue stone treads had a chip I didn't like so he redid that too. Overall they are great to work with and I would hire them again!

I contacted John Darling by e-mail. He came out to give estimate about 5 days later. From start to finish, I knew that I picked the right mason. I had 3 total estimates. One was a lot more, and one was a little less, but was not nearly as much work as John's. More bang for your buck, for sure. John is very nice guy, and very easy to deal with. The same can be said for his workers. It is very obvious that he cares greatly about his work and reputation. I could not be happier with the price and results. I wouldn't hire anybody else but him in the future!!! He even spread the extra crushed stone out in front of my house where it was all muddy.
Description of Work: removed brick walkway, applied van air stone to sides and rises of existing concrete stairs. installed 2 solid granite steps. put down new pavers where brick was. about 12'x4' walkway. stairs also now have granite treads and landing.

My husband and I are very pleased with the work John and his crew performed at our house. They arrived early every morning and were very courteous. The steps and wall turned out beautifully and are just what we were looking for. John was great to work with and provided us with several options in terms of materials and structure to better fit into our budget. Will definitely reach out to him again if/when we need additional work done.

The original wall had been improperly installed without weep holes and was leaning precariously toward the house. John and his crew dug out the area, removed the old wall and install a new wall using proper technique. The job was done flawlessly. The wall looks amazing, the site was left in perfect condition and the cost came in 10% below estimate. John had performed an earlier job repairing my foundation wall and did an exceptional job on that as well, filling in a void in the foundation. Although he encountered some surprises, that job also came in on budget and he left site in pristine condition even though the work was done on a rain filled day. I could not be on site for either of these projects, which only proves that he is reliable, trust worthy and has exceptional work ethic. I have other masonry related work to get done and will absolutely use his services again.

I have worked with John on a couple of other projects at my last house. He was always on time, reasonable, and nice to work with. We asked him to give us a bid for a new retaining wall in our new house. We were able to schedule a meeting within a week or so of the call. He came out took the measurements and provided some suggestions. We had a proposal back within a week. We did obtain proposals from 3 other masons. John was the most reasonable and timely. His crew was there when they said they would be. They cleaned up and completed the job within a couple of days. We are very happy with their work and would recommend him.

I received several estimates on the work and JD Masonry gave me the fairest price as well as some honest suggestions. The crews were all very nice and polite. I had brick steps totally removed and rebuilt with granite treads and stone fronts. I made the landing deeper and wider and they worked with me when I wanted to change the height of each step. Next I changed a section that had old railroad ties and a curved section of 5 steps to solid granite steps and made them more manageable. Finally the walkway was brick and we replaced it with pavers. When I saw the sample pavers on sight prior to install I really wasn't happy with the color that yes I had chosen. They were good about providing a second sample which I was much happier with and we went with...I am VERY PLEASED with the final result. The front of the house looks great now.!!! I decided as an after thought to have them do a small section in brick using some of my removed bricks...I received a proposal and the work was able to be done a few weeks later. I also want to say that this work was done in some pretty extreme heat and they work full days and stuck it out in the horrible heat. I would recommend and use these guys again no question.

This was one of the best experiences that we have ever had with a contractor. From start to finish John was courteous, responsive, and totally committed. We gave him a photograph of the walkway that we would like to have him build and he delivered. He initially made some suggestions about the width and the contours and we agreed. His quote for the work was very good and we accepted it without question. He also did a few extra things after the quote, like putting a conduit pipe under the walkway, at no extra charge. Once the work was started he came every day until it was completed. The finished walkway was beautiful. The quality and craftsmanship was more than we hoped for. It was great to have someone like John doing the work. He took care of everything including a good cleanup. It was worry free and we would definitely seek him out for our next job.

John and his crew were terrific! They did the job efficiently and did outstanding work and cleaned up all debris. I especially appreciate that John was communicative during the entire process of hiring/doing the work/asking questions as needed. John also is taking care of having a contractor come out to put in a railing for us which I also appreciate. When through no fault of our tenants, some solicitor on a Saturday had walked on the steps before they had set (the person had literally stepped over the caution tape!!), John did not charge any extra for having to redo the steps. I would definitely recommend John to my neighbors and friends and would hire him again should the need arise. Outstanding work and a good, honest person to boot!

The cottage is built on ledge. Where the concrete block meets the rock, some of the loam was letting go. Exposing gaps in the support for the foundation. John was able to shore up the foundation and fill the gaps. Upon his arrival he noted the the existing conditions required additional materials than originally determined, after setting up his equipment, he left the site and went to obtain the necessary stones, returned and completed the job. Although he ended up having to excavate more loam than he had anticipated and bring in foundations stones to fill gaps and create the necessary support, there was no uptick in the charges. When the job was complete, he left the place in pristine condition and the new portion of the foundation wall looks awesome. The original contract involved two separate jobs. This was the first and could have potentially been the worst. I could not be more pleased with the quality of work and the professional approach. I look forward to the next portion of the contract.

Excellent! I contacted John in March to quote my project (one of three masons I had quote my project). He was headed off for family vacation the morning after he came over and was able to deliver the quote to me that night before leaving for vaca (amazing!). John was very knowledgeable and patient with my questions. I had a hodge-podge of walkway photos and he seemed to easily get what I was trying to do with our 150 year old house. I wanted solid granite and brick! And, I was a bit picky about color! The work began a two weeks after we gave John the green light. JD Masonry is a family business ... John's dad and uncle and a bunch of cousins are masons and do the work, which I really liked. I picked John because he was the most on point in answering my questions, which gave me confidence. This was a big project for us! The work began as agreed and the crew was on-time throughout the project. John was very responsive during the project to my emails and questions. We have a small yard, so it was necessary for them to pile up their materials on our grass, and my husband got a bit nervous about what was going on. They did use tarps and boards so that there were no dents in the grass ... and when my husband called John about it, he was very reassuring that the lawn would have minimal damage. Considering how much "stuff" was on our lawn, we were doubtful, but John was right...no major damage at all (considering the cement mixer, the bob cat, giant slabs of granite, all the brick and cinder blocks, piles of sand/rock ... oye!! ... it's a miracle, but they knew what they were doing :)). One thing that is especially noteworthy: I have these giant (!!) puffy evergreen shrubs right in front of the main landing. While I have no love for the shrubs (they are getting ripped out next year, I hope), I didn't want them to be damaged as they're all I've got for greenery in front of the door right now. Well, we discussed having to trim them back a bit as there was just no other way and no place for the masons to work to get the landing in (and I understood), but what ended up happening was magic! I knew they were working on the landing as I was home that day. I didn't want to peek for fear I would be upset with how the shrubs looked ... when I came out, the landing was in and the shrubs were perfectly enact. John's cousin had CRAWLED through the bottom of the shrubs and constructed the wall without cutting anything. Truly amazing ... and above and beyond!! So, overall, these guys are A++. My walkway and steps are just so stunning! The quality of their work is clear. I wish I could upload photos! Oh, and the stone wall they fixed ... amazing! They put it back together perfectly (it has a rustic sort of look) and didn't damage my ancient peonies that live along the wall.
Description of Work: Removed old concrete steps and walkway. Installed solid granite steps (2 sets, 7 steps in total), 125' brick walkway, and 4'x6' 3-step (on each side) brick landing capped with 2" granite. Fixed a 40' section of a stone wall.

John came recommended by a contractor I trust. It was clear the first time I met with John that he was a great guy and a guy who cared about doing things the right way. His quote was very reasonable ( I got multiple quotes) and he did everything he said he would. Always showed up on time, and was always very professional. He also helped me out by doing a little extra work for no cost. I would use John again in an instant and will be referring him to anyone who needs a good mason. He seems like he has a wide range of skills and can help out on a variety of projects.

From start to finish this company was "AAA". Where do I start! I have had the experience of dealing with many contractors over 40 years.John Darling the owner of this company is at the "TOP" of the list. He returned every single phone call quickly of which there were many. John explained every aspect of the job in detail. If there were any problems when the job was in progress I was called right away. This family owned business is run by honest hard working people who care about their work. The attention to detail in their craftsmanship is an art. John and his family have over 60 years of combined experience at their craft and it shows in the final product. My project which was a large job, not only was finished way ahead of the finished date but best of all was under my estimate. When John could save me money anywhere in the project he did. I cannot thank John and his family enough for making such a large project go so smoothly. My wife and I can't be happier. We will be calling this company for future work.
Description of Work: This company was hired to replaced an existing retaining wall made of railroad ties. This job was large and a little complicated. It required removal of existing wall which was 120 feet in length and 4 feet in height. The old wall was hazardous and had to be dispose of properly. The old wall was in a confined area at some points. Machines and equipment had to work around some sensitive areas. Also my cedar fence sat on top of the existing wall. Accommodations had to be made while the stonewall was being built so the old fence could be reinstalled properly. Also some drainage modifications were made to divert water. All the existing property was loamed and regrated.

I called John all most 9 months ago for a quote. He came to home on a Saturday morning to see what he needed to do and answered all my questions. The wall was tilting to a point that if would fall within 2-3 years. I needed to hold off on the project. I called John back this year around March to move forward on this project in April. John offered me the original quote. He finished the job on time as promised and he did not leave a mess. The wall came out AWESOME!! I have all ready called to have him come back for more work that I need him to do. I highly recommend JD Masonry LLC

They did a great job. They were neat and clean and the job came out better than we had hoped. Just from showing John some pictures of what we were trying to do he was able to craft exactly what we were looking for. Pricing was in line with other masons. John runs the business side of things and his uncle does most of the work. His uncle is extremely experienced and did great work.
Description of Work: JD Masonry completed a field stone veneer to cover up the old circa-1990's brick fireplace I had. The removed the first layer of brick from the hearth, built a wood support frame to extend up to the 10 foot ceiling we have and then covered all the existing brick and the wood frame with new new england fieldstone. The pattern he applied looks great and he added a bluestone hearth and mantle, perfectly fit to match the existing firebrick height.

21When coming out to survey the situation, we discovered that I had a stone that could be cut and used on this project, saving us a good deal of money and time. they were very much interested in helping us solve our problem, not in running up a bill. That's why we've agreed to have them come back for another job outside in the Spring.

They show up on time for the appointment for the estimate on the job. Also explained in detail what they were going to do. The day of the job the crew showed up on time. The job went as planned. They had to come back the next day to install the cap and shingles. The whole crew was very professional. I would highly recommend them. The chimney looks great. And the invoice for the job was what i was quoted at the beginning.

John came to look over the job and got back to me quickly with an estimate. He talked about the chance that the foundation might need repair or a total replacement and he priced that also. John came out to look at the job a second time at my request to measure out a larger platform. The work was done promptly and the area was left clean when they left.
Description of Work: We are very happy with the new brick and granite steps installed by John. The foundation had to be replaced and the sill was repaired because it was about sixty years old and not done correctly to begin with. The platform was enlarged and looks much better and allows easier entry to the house. The railings were installed by another contractor and he commented on the great job John had done. It was all done on time and the extra work had been priced for me in advance so that if they needed to be done it would not be a total surprise.
