JD was very prompt, and quickly got to work. He and his assistant cordoned off the area to minimize the brick dust, and after a couple of hours precisely cutting our measurements, the area was vacuumed up as well as it could be. After that it was a simple matter of wiping down the floor and surfaces to remove the remaining dust. Job cost came in under his original estimate.
Description of Work: We needed the cutting of a brick cutout to fit a new 30" oven. The existing cutout was too small, and needed to be widened by a few inches on each side.

The crew arrived right on time-worked all day-and just had a little left to finish. They came back the next day-finished their work-cleaned everything up-and left. I was very happy with the whole experience.
Description of Work: I had a new sidewalk put in with Uni-lock pavers. And I had my front steps repaired-with a new stucco coating and granite steps and landing.

John came out for an estimate, and was able to discuss a couple of alternatives as well as warn us of potential costs. Price was right in line with other estimates, but he seemed to have the best knowledge of codes, what would work well, etc.. Crew did work within two days, were friendly to our young and curious children, left the work area clean after they were done, and the final results were fantastic. Numerous compliments from neighbors, and I've taken a level afterwards to confirm that everything was nice and plumb. Shade of granite a little lighter than we would have liked, would have liked to see a sample before having it installed. Would recommend to others looking for masonry work. He also referred us to someone to construct and install railings and they came out very well also.
Description of Work: Installed new front steps with granite caps and brick sides. Demoed existing stairs, and repaired footing.

Several discussions were held on materials to be used, style of the sidewalk and edging on flower beds. All plans were agreed to by all. Estimate given in writing included several options that might be needed, depending on the condition of the foundation and woodwork behind the steps. Project completed with the material selected and as agreed. Masonry team was easy to work with, arriving on time each day and finishing the project within the agreed upon time line. At the end of the project the estimate was adjusted in discussion with us, demonstrating a fair reflection of work actually done versus somethings not needed. John Darling, the owner, was willing to bring samples of materials and explaining various styles of steps and sidewalk. He was easy to work with throughout.
Description of Work: The front, brick steps and brick sidewalk were replaced as well as providing edging to flower beds.

I thoroughly trust this company after calling 4 others on your list.
Description of Work: I want to say that I spoke directly to the owner and was told how I could solve this problem myself. I decided my gardener would be able to seal my brick wall where the water was coming in. If this doesn't work I will definitely call this company back. I was really impressed!

John arrived to look at the job the same day I called him, made money-saving suggestions, and then provided me a quote the next day, that was by far the lowest of three bids I obtained. Usually when there is a significant price difference I'm hesitant to accept the lowest bid, but since other Angie's members had given him good reviews, I did. He told me when he thought he could start, then contacted me a few days before that to confirm it, and showed up exactly when he said he would. Several members of his crew are his relatives, and they all are gentlemen who care about their craftsmanship and customer satisfaction in all things. I have a central air conditioner condenser where one corner of the patio would otherwise be, and he offered me the choice of finishing the patio up to the unit, or leaving it until I had it moved out of the way so he could finish the patio beneath it, at no extra charge, which he thought would look better. It turned out to be prohibitively expensive to move the air conditioner, so a few days later I called John to ask him to finish the patio up to it, and he came back that afternoon to do it. All in all, I could not have asked for a more pleasant experience, and would recommend JD Masonry to anyone.
Description of Work: He removed turf, prepared and leveled the area, and installed a slightly raised stone patio faced with a low stone wall. The materials used were smooth topped cobblestone-style paving stones and stone-faced retaining blocks.

John was very prompt in getting back to me about a quote and coming to look at the jobsite. He even jetted right over to my house as soon as he landed at the airport on the way home from his vacation! John started and completed the job when he said he would and was upfront about every detail about the job. Him and his fantastic crew were always punctual, very courteous and pleasant, professional and neat. I was impressed at how early they showed up to complete the work and also did a very good job of cleaning up after the work was done-even making sure to spare my garden from getting stepped on or squashed. John kept good communication throughout the whole process so there were no surprises. The patio came out better than I had envisioned...I am so happy with his work. It looks amazing and I could not have hoped for anything better. His quote was also very competitive and reasonable.I would recommend him to anyone looking to get any kind of stonework done.
Description of Work: I had approx. 175 sq ft patio installed in the corner of the back yard wrapping wround an existing firepit. It was a combination of multi-sized natural stone slabs outlined with pavers. Had a stonedust foundation.

John was very responsive: his quote was e-mailed promptly and once we hired him, he came exactly when he said he would. We are very pleased with the job he did and would highly recommend him.
Description of Work: My front steps needed to be repaired. John gave me two options: a repair or a total rebuild. We decided on the repair which involved power washing, repointing steps and removing and replacing blue stone platform and steps.

John responed to my phone call the same day and came to our home two days later. He was prompt and gave us an estimate with all options. He was pleasant and professional and we felt very comfortable with him. The three estimates I received were all approximately the same and we chose John because of personality and responsiveness. He and his crew arrived on time and completed the job the same day. I don't know much about chimineys but my roofer confirmed yesterday that it was a quality job which did not suprise us.

John came within a day or so of my contacting him, looked over the steps and proposed 2 options. I wanted plain and simple since these weren't often used front steps. I wasn't looking for brick and granite for these steps since the front steps were plain. We talked and he emailed me his proposal within a day and he was available the following week to do the work. It took about a day and a half, he arrived early and he and his crew (2 other men) went right to work. He was quick, conscientious and I would definitely rehire him. Nice to work with someone who knows his business and does good work.

Great - he was prompt, courteous and his bid was very competitive!
Description of Work: We had JD Masonry give us an estimate for our backyard patio. He returned my calls promptly, came on time and gave us some helpful advice on the patio and paver choices. His bid was extremely competitive and we would have gone with his work, but we decided to get more garden and landscaping work done at the same time and used another company instead.

We asked John to install a walkway next to our driveway. They had to remove part of our lawn and our old pavers from our old entry area. He told me that the job would take 3-4 days depending on the weather, he called me on Saturday to confirm that the crew would be there on Monday around 8am. Monday came and they were there at 8am, they started immediately, at the end of Monday they were half way done, on Tuesday they came also at 8am (even after a big Pats game on Monday night). Without missing a bit they started to work laying the pavers, around 3pm they were totally done. Very impressive no time wasted no starting the job and going some place else. I definitely recommend this company very reliable very professional.

John and his crew and did an excellent job. I can?t say enough about how pleased I am with the quality of the work, and the professional way it was done. It was started on time and completed on time. John and his crew were very pleasant and easy to work with and the end result was a beautiful chimney. If you would like to know if I would rehire John, the answer is yes. In fact I have rehired him to install a new brick walkway in the front of my house.
Description of Work: JD Masonry recently rebuilt my chimney from the roof up. It was a major piece of work since I have a very large chimney and was complicated by the fact that there was an inner chimney constructed of brick and an outer chimney that was stucco.

He did the work as promised and in a very timly fashion. It looks very nice. While he was working on the job, the chimney cap on my roof blew off. He offered to come back the next day and reinstall it more securely. Again, he returned as promised and did the job with a minimum of fuss.

John gave me an estimate of $4,000. to replace my front steps, and make minor repairs to two sets of brick steps at the rear of my house. He also provided me with a small concrete ramp from garage to driveway for handicap access. As you can see, he came in under the estimate. He was very meticulous in his work, (measure twice, cut once) and the whole time he took to complete the job, he was very congenial and pleasant to talk to, very often pausing to explain the next step in the process. The final result was a truly remarkable set of steps of which I am very proud. I highly recommend John to others for their masonry needs.

I am being so sincere when I say I have never before had such a positive, professional and enjoyable experience with a company. John is open, honest and so clear when explaining the repairs necessary and his suggestions as to the best solution. He explained his quotes to me clearly and never altered from what we agreed to do. Outstanding service and such a very considerate and nice individual.

We contacted three companies and we heard back from two of them. We were waiting on a third contractor to quote before we make a decision. They were very professional. We asked for a couple of different scenarios. We asked for a cheap scenario on what we could get by with and then one or two different ways because we have crumbling steps. We've seen people do stone with brick combinations and just brick only, so we were trying to find out how the two options compared and whether we could do repointing as a third option. They did provide quotes for all three. Once we get all the quotes in, we will get back in touch to get clarification on parts of the bids to see if it includes hauling away because that can be a real problem in our community. We can't dispose of things easily. They showed up and gave the quote. They were professional and the first impression was good. They showed up on time for the appointment.
