Great. Whole process was pretty simple from start to finish. Sunbug gave me a competitive quote. They are also a local business and support public radio so that was a plus in my book :). I was influenced by the many positive reviews and the team at Sunbug met my expectations. They explained all the options clearly and there was no attempt to upsell me. The install went smoothly over about 2.5 days. Then I just had to wait for the inspections and utility interconnect and we were generating electricity.

Sunbug Solar installed a 12 kW solar system on our home roof. My experience with Sunbug Solar was superb. From the initial informational meeting to the final post-instillation debrief, the organization was professional and responsive. My one concern about solar panels was that installation would take a lot of time and input from us, but Sunbug Solar took care of everything - from permitting to dealing with the utility company to setting up our SREC account. They stand behind their product and have been helpful in answering any questions that we had. I highly recommend Sunbug Solar. Mary Rose Scozzafava

I will have to say this company is on-point! They were great to deal with from the initial sale through to the finished product. Everyone was communicative, organized & knowledgeable. They made the whole process extremely easy at a competitive price. I was also impressed with how quickly everything came together. Would highly recommend SunBug to anyone considering solar panels as an investment.

From the beginning, they were the most pleasant to deal with. I got 4 quotes and theirs was among the two lowest. The crew was very nice and courteous. They did their best to not disrupt us during the install and their work was excellent. When the building inspector and electrical inspector from the town inspected their work both had compliments on the quality of the work. I'm already seeing savings in my electric. If you are looking to get solar I would certainly recommend them.

I was very happy with SunBug when they installed my solar panel array back in 2011. Since then, however, there have been three different, significant problems with my array, all caused by SunBug, all costing me money, and SunBug has refused to take responsibility for any of them or compensate me in any way. 1) One of my microinverters failed because SunBug terminated the wiring for it with electrical tape rather than the termination cap required by the inverter's manufacturer, thus voiding the warranty on the inverter. Not only has SunBug refused to accept responsibility for the error, they blamed it on the installer that discovered and fixed the problem. 2) The microinverter for one of my panels has failed twice, apparently because the panel it's connected to isn't producing enough electricity because it's too shaded by a roof gable, and as a result the electricity provided to the microinverter is too unstable and causing it to fail prematurely. Furthermore, the amount of electricity being produced by this panel turns out to be so low -- because of the shade from the gable -- that it should never have been installed in the first place. SunBug has refused to acknowledge that they shouldn't have installed a panel with that much shade. 3) SunBug installed my array without animal guards and indeed didn't even mention animal guards as a possibility when we were negotiating the installation of the array. Fine, OK, whatever, apparently it wasn't common knowledge back then that animals would damage arrays or that animal guards were a good idea. But it became common knowledge a few years later when arrays started experiencing animal damage, to the point where (by their own admission) SunBug now recommends and installs animal guards on most of the arrays they install, and yet at no point did they contact me to let me know about this and suggest that I consider installing animal guards. As a result, my array suffered from animal damage which was expensive to repair and which could have been avoided if I'd had guards installed earlier -- guards which I ended up paying to install anyway, to prevent further damage. All of these problems could have been forgiven if SunBug acknowledge and took at least partial (financial) responsibility for them. Instead, they have consistently denied any responsibility whatsoever and have not compensated me a single penny for any of the damage caused by these issues.

Response from Sunbug Solar: A ReVision Energy Company
SunBug strives for the highest customer satisfaction in our industry, as demonstrated by six consecutive Super Service Awards stemming from nearly 100 A Grade reviews on Angies List. However we also know that reasonable disagreements about root causes of problems can lead to disputes. Disputes can sometimes be unpleasant to work out, but we are pleased to now have this one resolved amicably and to the satisfaction of both sides.

I was very happy with my choice of SunBug for my solar installation. I solicited bids from several companies, and SunBug was far and away the most straightforward and transparent. They explained exactly what I was getting, and didn't try to sell me what I didn't need. They also came it best on price, though that wasn't my primary reason for selecting them. The installation process was very smooth. There are several steps in the solar process - you need inspections and approvals from local authorities, and that all takes time, but SunBug kept me up to date. I especially liked that all the paperwork was handled electronically. Once everything was lined up the actual installation only took a day and a half - very neat and professional. I highly recommend contacting SunBug even if you're not sure about adding solar power. They'll give you the information you need, and you can't go wrong using them for your installation.

Sunbug was recommended to me by a friend who previously used them. I selected multiple vendors to provide bids. Sunbug was the first company I worked with and they were very informative, responsive, and professional. They ultimately won the bid and performed the work. The entire team continued with prompt, professional service. We were fortunate to have a spot open up and installation occurred faster than expected. The install team made sure that my concerns and wishes were met and they did a fantastic job with no exposed conduit or wiring. They were able to use internal existing pathways to run wires from the attic to the basement. Overall, a super clean installation inside and out. The addition of critter guards made the installation even more aesthetically appealing. I highly recommend using Sunbug for you solar installation.

Awesome! Mike at SunBug was awesome with the estimate. 4 months after activation it seems I am producing the electricity SunBug estimated. Maybe better since we had some tree work done. Installers were awesome and fast. There were some paperwork delays but I would definitely recommend SunBug.

SunBug did an excellent job upfront of explaining to me the various options I had and when none of those options passed muster with the historical commission they actually reached out to many different sources to find a way to install on the slate. I had been looking for someone to do this job for many years and Sunbug was the first to be able to make it happen. They were extremely professional and always prompt and communicative. The install happened over several days spread out over a week or so and only took that long due to the coordination that had to happen for installing on slate. They have also helped me when I've called up about how to report my energy generation for SRECs and with other small issues. They were very responsive. The solar panels have been on my roof now for two months, have been generating power without a problem despite a major windstorm and some torrential downpours during that time. I would recommend Sunbug Solar to anyone who wants to have the job done right.
Description of Work: I needed to install solar panels on a slate roof of a single family house that was designated historical significant by the town. There are very few installers that will tackle slate roofs, the historical commission needed to approve the planned work, and to complicate the job even more there was very little room between the house next door and the side of our house where the install needed to happen.

Couldn't have gone better. The crews sent were all top notch, polite, neat and incredibly professional. Phil, the supervisor, expained the process, calmed our concerns and was always on task. When one day was wiped out because of weather, the next day they brought a double crew to keep to their schedule. Every step of the way there were people available to explain the process, guide us through potential pitfalls and ease the process. They were simply the best.

I have no complaints. They were very nice and courteous. They were very clean. They were awesome. We did most of it online then the guy came out. I have no complaints. They were prompt. They were on time. It only took them a day and a half to do it. They did what my husband asked. They were very good. I was very pleased. They were all polite. They were nice and clean. They cleaned up after themselves. We got the expensive one, so I would say they were competitive.

I chose SunBug Solar because they had the highest rating on Angie's List. The choice paid off. I investigated 6 companies. The cost was roughly similar for all; SunBug was not the most expensive. Early they struck me as a very professional group. Here is were it gets good. I had a neighbor, who is friends with the building inspector in town. Together they concocted a scheme to deny the building permit, quoting 2 Mass laws that apply to commercial systems, greater than 250 KW; as I said above we are 11 KW. It was an attempt to scare us off. SunBug stuck with me. They prepared documents for an appeal where they did all the talking. They were able to convince the appeals board to approve the appeal and later the building inspector granted the permit. The appeals etc. put us 6-months behind schedule. SunBug worked on the weekends to insure the system would be installed before the end of the year so that I would benefit from the tax credits. They did an exceptional job. The system is up and running. Throughout the entire process they were extremely helpful and always very professional. One of their employees, bless her, spent a huge amount of time dealing with my cranky neighbor. They were always on time and when they left the job site it was so clean you could not tell anyone was there. They used one of my shovels to dig and broke it. I did not know it and they could have left never letting me know but they bought a new shovel and gave it to me before they finished the job. I would recommend them to anyone who wants to install a solar system.
Description of Work: I had 36 solar panel ground array installed toward the front of my property about 500 feet from my home. Too many trees for a roof-top system. The system generates ~ 11 KiloWatts of energy. The work involved ground work where the panels are, installing the panels and electric control boxes, a trench to my house, all the wiring in to the existing electricity panels, etc.

It went very well. Sunbug spent a lot of time in advance discussing with me the pros and cons of different panels, what product to choose, and what I should expect. They installed the panels in two days, with almost no inconvenience to me. So far, their predictions for power generation are exactly right. All in all, an excellent experience. My sole reservation is that it took five months from the time I signed my contract (early February) to the time the panels were operational (early July)--I'd really hoped to catch May and June last year. So book early!

I can monitor it too. You can look at website and see at any moment how much energy is generated. Everything worked fine. They were very good. Everything was as they described and I am very happy with my system. The few times that I needed help getting to the website and when I call them up, they get back to me. When I have been to the office, the people there are enthusiastic about their work. I liked all of the people. The were responsive to my phone calls. It was worth it. I am getting money back and haven't paid an electric bill. I know that I will have my money back. If I sell the house, it will enhance the speed of the sale and the price I get for it. It is certainly an aspect. Economically it was a good move for me. I did get a tax break of a lot from the government subsidy. I would recommend them to other people. Although I didn't do it for economic reasons, I did it to be green and help out the environment. So far it all works fine.

I couldn't ave gone any better. From the moment I met Sales Rep Mike Ozog I felt very comfortable and reassured that Sunbug was an excellent reputable company. The entire company walked me through every step of the way, including helping me with tax rebates etc. The installation was well done and very professional. The installer made sure everything was in the best place possible and didn't interfere with any other utilities. I would not generally purchase the solar panels due to the fact that my wife and I are on a tight budget, however Sunbug recommended financial institutions that were able to walk through every step of the process at an incredibly low rate. We were installed June 15th 2016 and making energy most every day and very much looking forward to casing in our SREC's Solar Renewable Energy Credits. For us, at least so far, this was a win win. I did look at 4 other companies and none came close to offering the service and quality I received from the crew at Sunbug.

Website As a web developer, I have to say that the SunBug Solar website is very clean, well thought out and informative. There was only one area I thought they should change and that was on their companion site SunWatchMeter. As of this writing, they have ceased providing this service to new clients, and therefore should not be promoting this on their website. Rather, they should be using samples from their partner SolarEdge, which is the company they now use for web-based monitoring. Too bad, though. SunBug's product was much nicer looking and showed generation vs. consumption. The SolarEdge does what it needs to, though, but it wouldn't hurt making its design similar to their in-house version. Also I would really like to change the installation photo they used, it was taken on a gloomy day and doesn't really show off the panels or the installation well. Lastly, the SunWatch Meter allows guest users to view the production meter, but apparently you can't with SolarEdge. Sales/Evaluation I filled out a form online and they contacted me promptly about setting up an evaluation. Mike Ozog was the sales person, and I could tell from listening to him that he was enthusiastic in regards solar energy as well as SunBug the company. He explained the whole process, was patient with my questions and never once did I feel I was being pushed or led to commit to anything. He checked my downstairs, attic and roof to make sure there were no potential problems and did a shade projection based on our roof's orientation and surrounding structures/trees. Installation Bakhu and his team were scheduled later in November, but we were lucky and someone cancelled their install and they showed up the very next week. The work was completed professionally in two days. Bakhu made sure that I was kept informed of the process. Also I want to give special nod to the electrician who came up with the perfect location for the inverter which kept it out of site and produced the least noise, we never would have considered it. There was one miscommunication regarding the documents which were to have been left in my mailbox after the install. They weren't and there was a little confusion on my part as to whether I needed to get them prior to the electrical inspection by National Grid. But no worries, Matthew brought the papers with him and the inspector was very impressed with the work they had done and signed off without complaint. Nice job! Commissioning Mike came back to close the deal, bringing us a packet of brochures and warranties that covered the components of the entire system. We went over few more questions and also discussed SRECs and the business of selling them. We signed up with SRECTrade and now just need an energy audit from MassSave which we scheduled in early January to finish off the application. Unfortunately, I wasn't made aware of that earlier in the process, which would have allowed me to schedule it sooner.

Sunbug did a great job and I am very happy with the result. I have a tricky roof for solar because the panels needed to be split into 4 spots and we have a large maple tree causing afternoon shadows. These two items alone had SunBug solar standing out above the other solar companies. Instead of just eye-balling it, they took measurements before jumping to conclusions with an estimate - they really wanted to make sure they could get it to work and get it to 100% coverage. I signed the contract in September 2015 and the last day of construction/installation was March, to the day, so it took 6 months to complete. Now because I had a tricky roof, this delayed the already long process (typically its a 3-4 month process), so they could get everything 100%. All communication and experiences were great. From my initial calls, to house visits to the variety of installation folks, everyone was friendly and informative. Two big factors that made me appreciate SunBug more than others was the lowest interest rate on a loan (everyone else was 2% higher) and the country of manufacturer for the panels. We got 315w LG panels made in South Korea. Most other places had 285w at best and they were all made in China. My complaint, which is minor, is that there were two times I had to reach out and ask "what is the status here?" I then got an immediate reply back saying "we were JUST emailing you about this." I know it's a long process but I was waiting weeks on end for an engineer to produce a report to move the project forward, I shouldn't have to send an email asking what the status is. In either case, a minor issue as I mentioned. They also by default added the critter guard for $900 on to my system (fence around the panels to keep animals out). While this is good in theory, I have yet to see this in place on any solar system, it should really not be a default item and I had to ask for them to remove it (no big deal). In the end, I have an amazing product and was thrilled with the results. The system has been running for a few months now and it's producing more than we use, which is perfect. Before I found Sunbug I almost lost hope that solar could work on my roof (multiple angled roof + large tree) but they made it happen and did it with ease. I would highly recommend.

We have a south facing roof but had a large bank of pine trees to the south that cast significant shadow, no one would come to evaluate the location (as they do it all by satellite) until I said the magic words " we will take down the trees". We started looking for providers in August 2015 and chose 5 companies (Solar City, New England Clean Energy, Direct Energy Solar, SunBug Solar, Next Step Living), all companies have different aspects, some favor us buying panels vs leasing and vice versa, some just seem to get confused when the solar energy specialist left, some had hard selling tactics, they all had different quality panels and different warranties, we researched all aspects of the companies from recent installations (calling past customers/looking at Angie's list, Yelp etc), to the technical aspects of the panels( https://www.energysage.com/solar/buyers-guide/selecting-solar-panels), to the warranties and to how they would look. SunBug Solar and Direct Energy Solar with New England Clean Energy close behind were the top in terms of quality of product and service. New England Clean Energy fell out of the running based on price, SunBug Solar just seemed to have that edge on quality, price, and past customer reviews. SunBug Solar provided a high level of quality, whether they were on site or updating us with the process, even after installation if we had questions they quickly responded to any questions we had. SunBug Solar provided all services on time to the specifications that we agreed, they were on site for all town inspections, they arranged those inspections, they kept us informed throughout the process, when SREC changed their paperwork SunBug Solar resubmitted all documents in the correct format. We have received compliments from neighbors on how the panels look. SunBug Solar provides additional warranty information; they were able to provide two sets of specifications - one without the trees removed and another set with the trees removed. They installed the panels on time, to the specifications we agreed to, the price and timing of payments to SunBug Solar was also as was previously agreed. As we are busy we chose to do communication via email and they used an electronic signature system so everything was done via email. I can monitor the solar production on my cell phone or computer and even in February with the low sun angle we should significant savings on our electric bill. The warranties are transferable to the next homeowner and even though researching solar and the 5 companies was a lot of work, we are so glad we put in the effort to do that and are reaping the rewards from a money savings standpoint as well as helping the environment. We did look up the benefits of solar vs removing mature pine trees near the end of their life and the environmental savings are on the side of solar. We highly recommend using SunBug Solar for your solar panel installation project.

SunBug Solar came to the house and reviewed all aspects of going solar (including the electricity savings, to the SREC process/savings, roof and attic inspection, the local town inspection process, the technology of solar panels, the installation, timeline, cost, tax savings and any geographical issues). SunBug Solar returned for the roof and attic inspection with roofing specialists. During the process they were onsite for the local town inspection, they processed all paperwork for us. Roof installation occurred over 3 days in late December, and utility connection in January 2016.
