We hired New England Closets to upgrade a walk-in closet, a pantry and some kitchen cabinets in our new home. We had downsized and needed to make our storage as efficient as possible. This review is focusing on the pantry and kitchen cabinets which used the NE Closets line of Shelf Genie products. Please see my review of New England Closets for the walk-in closet review. Jeff came to our home to evaluate our kitchen and pantry and make suggestions on how we can improve our storage and function. The pantry is a 'reach-in' closet that had five wire shelves. Jeff suggested removing those and replacing them with Shelf Genie roll-out shelves. The end result is amazing! We now have solid wood shelves, at various heights, that roll all the way out. There is a lip around each shelf so nothing will fall off. The roller mechanism is strong and noiseless. We can now store three times as much as we could with the wire shelves and there is no longer any concern about trying to reach things that work their way to the back of the shelf. In the kitchen, Jeff recommended installing roll-out shelves in four cabinets. One cabinet now holds two waste baskets; one has a roll-out with special slots for baking sheets and cutting boards as well as a spice shelf; one is a double cabinet with two roll-out shelves for pots and pans (these shelves hold a lot of weight with no problem at all); and we now have two pull-out units under the sink that fit perfectly around the disposal and plumbing fixtures. In each case we are able to store much more than we could before and it is so easy to get to everything. Our original cabinet doors were used and, until you open the doors, you would never know any work was done. Gerard, the installer, was able to complete the entire project in one day. He was polite, professional, informative and he cleaned up so well that you would never know any work had been done. We highly recommend New England Closets and Shelf Genie. The two projects they did for us have made our storage spaces much more usable and I believe it has enhanced our property value.

The company sent out a person to measure for creating new sliding drawers to fit inside a tall storage (or pantry) cabinet in my kitchen. It was a pain because I could never get to the stuff that got pushed to the back of the cabinet. About 6 weeks later, they came back and installed new drawers on sliding tracks. They are beautiful, well-built and heavy-duty drawers. They're hand made of solid wood, and each drawer can hold up to 100 pounds of food or storage items. I'm so glad I did this, it was worth every penny. Even though it was expensive, in the long run it will save money. I can't tell you how much food I had to throw away from having "expired", because it was buried at the back of the shelf. I found things that had expired 5 years ago, simply b/c I didn't know it was there! I highly recommend this company. They're a pleasure to work with, and their craftsmanship is excellent. Have had these drawers for over a year now, and they slide as easily as the day they were installed, and I've got a LOT of heavy stuff on them.

I was very comfortable having him in the house. He was able to discuss with me the style and storage that we were looking for. They were professional, on time or even early. He was conscientious and nice and made sure to keep things clean.

My cabinets (Omega Dynasty from 1993) were basically in good shape except for the inexplicably poor quality of the original drawer hardware. The corner lazy susan unit was not usable (shelves had cracked and broken and it was out of adjustment) and the drawers wouldn't hold the required weight. Lori, ShelfGenie's designer, suggested several useful improvements and was completely responsive to my concerns. After her visit Steve, the installer, came to the house for measurement. He too was prompt and responsive. Later he called to schedule the installation (each installation is specifically designed for the customer). Steve and Kyle arrived promptly for the installation. This went smoothly and without fuss and in my case took about six hours. ShelfGenie uses top-notch materials and components (Rev-A-Shelf and Fulterer, for example) and appears able to retrofit kitchen cabinets in most ways one might wish. In my case everything works fine and I'm a happy camper. The downside is the cost. This stuff is not cheap. But given the quality of the products and services and considering that I couldn't get the time of day from kitchen companies unless I wanted a total kitchen renovation I'm not complaining. And the company is completely clear about what you're buying and what you'll pay, so no issues there. If your existing cabinet boxes and doors were of good quality to start with, and you don't want or need a complete down-to-the-studs re-model, ShelfGenie offers improvements well worth considering.

The service went well. They are currently working on the project. I have met two of their technicians. They have been nice and helpful. They seem to be honest and straight forward. They have a great product and we are just waiting for the shelving to be installed. I had no problem scheduling the service.

The product is excellent. It is a quality product. They return phone calls, they show up on time, and will do a courtesy call if they are running late. they did a tremendous job. I will be using them again at our new place, they deserve a pat on the back

Surprised at how basic the new shelving is for the cost. When I open the pantry door & pull out the shelves, the shelves bang into (and gouge the door) unless the door is all the way open.

The Shelf Genie consultants made suggestions which considerably increased my existing storage space. The new drawers are much better quality than the old - more solid and smoother rolling. The installation process was relatively quick and painless. Iam very pleased.

Very respectful presentation, but the cost of seven shelves was over $3,000, and for two small shelves the cost would have been $689.

The company was prompt at responding after I purchased the deal, although it did take a few weeks to schedule as the rep was on vacation. The rep came on time as arranged, but we decided not to use their service after learning the price. For three standard base cabinets from Home Depot (2 24" and 1 33"), the bid came out to $2200. Even with the $300 credit from the deal, we just felt that was an unreasonable price to pay. The same bid from Home Depot custom cabinetry (less installation) came out to about $850. I think for those who can afford it, shelf genie may be a great solution. Just not in my first time home buyer budget. I was warned on their website that the average kitchen costs $2500, but I would have expected more work if that were the case.

I was informed there was a 4 shelf minimum which would be around 1000$. It was not clear in the fine print of the deal on angies list. The help desk contacted Shelf Genie and they said they would take away the minimum but when they came out to price ONE corner shelf it came out to 900$ and with the 199$ i already spent i thought that was a ridiculous amount of money for a cabinet shelf. I think they are baiting their customers to buy the deal and then giving them very high prices so they dont waste the 199$ they spent on the Angie's List deal.

Shelf Genie measured and the total was too much.

I thought that the price was a little extravagant. They showed up when they were supposed to. There were three different appointments where the sales representative came in to measure, then someone else came in a week later to double check the measurements for accuracy, and then the installation. They were professional, knowledgeable and courteous. I love the product. I would recommend them to a friend. There was one small problem that they came back to take care of immediately and to me that was a big deal.

No longer do I knock everything over to reach something in the back of the cabinet shelf. The Shelf Genie pull outs make everything accessible. My heavy electric mixer has a place just for itself with easy access. Large cooking pots and mixing bowls have a place in the pull out drawers with easy access. The cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink have their own pull out. Elizabeth knows how to design a perfect pull out for every kind of cabinet to maximize space and for ease of use. Now, I get to rave about Cabinet Cures. What you’ve done is a magical transformation of my tired and dated cabinets to elegant, up-to-date and user friendly. With so many cabinet door styles and colors it was challenging to make my final choices. The end result: my cabinet doors are gorgeous, solid oak or cherry wood (my choice)—not crappy particle board. I know there’s pride in workmanship and finite attention to detail in each and every nook and cranny of the cabinets. No one would ever know the cabinets are refaced. I have a kitchen that looks like it jumped off an interior designers drawing pad. It’s that WOW factor again! I know you have the before and after photos of our kitchen. I hope these photos can be useful as a testimonial to the quality products and flawless workmanship of Cabinet Cures and Shelf Genie. I couldn't end this note without saying great things about your craftsmen. They were never intrusive; they worked diligently and cleaned up the work area every day. It is evident that they are dedicated and skilled craftsmen who are proud representatives of Cabinet Cures and Shelf Genie. The result: A gorgeous, new and user friendly 21st century kitchen. Installers arrived on time. Put down drop cloths to protect floors. Worked steadily until job was done. Cleaned up after themselves. Price was high, but fair for the quality.
