Description of Work: Both my washing machine and my dryer didn't work properly and since they were 10 years old I feared they couldn't be fixed. The company was wonderful and responded right away. The tech , Merki, was terrific. He explained what was wrong and made all the necessary repairs, ensuring that I'd get many more years out of my machines. Description of Work: Our Kitchen Aid dishwasher had stopped working. A flashing light gave an indication of the problem. We took the chance to try to repair it (instead of spending close to $1000 in a new one). Greg, technician was punctual and indicated that the message on the panel meant, bad heating element. I disagreed (especially since I had personally replaced the heating element a couple of years ago), and described the noises the machine was making before failure. He proceeded to check the motor and found out that it indeed was broken. (Doesn't speak highly of Kitchen Aid quality since this dishwasher is only 6 years old, although in their defense, I have a Kitchen Aid dishwasher in our Florida home and is been working dutifully for almost 14 years). He priced me the replacement at $390 and told me that if after replacing it the machine did not work properly, he would have to replace the heating element and the control board for another $150. Greg's work was very professional and efficient. After the motor assembly was replaced, the control board was reset and the machine was put to work. Greg checked everything and found out that all systems were fine. After applying the 10% discount offered by Angie's List, the repair price came down to $350. Greg informed us that basically we were almost getting a new dishwasher, since the motor assembly he replaced makes about 80% of it. The dishwasher has been working perfectly. We are very happy with Same Day Service Inc. They really try to come in the same day you call them and in our case, since we called in the afternoon hours they scheduled us for the morning of the next business day. We are glad we did not spend the extra $650 that buying a new dishwasher represented, not only because of extra amount of money, but because the delivery and installation time would have left us with at least an extra couple of weeks without a dishwasher. Doing this by hand is not fun at all. On a final note, we had called Kitchen Aid before looking into Angie's List, and the company's repair man was only available two weeks later. Kudos to Same Day Service Inc and Greg, the technician that helped us.

They did everything right.
Description of Work: We had problems with a Jenn Aire oven/range. Call was promptly answered. Mirki arrived that afternoon. He diagnosed the problem in a reasonable amount of time. A part needed to be ordered but we set a date and time for him to return. He showed up as promised, on time, and installed the part. The part was a tad expensive but what do you expect from Jenn Aire? This ranks amongst the fastest and most trouble free repair experience. They are great!

Description of Work: My clothes dryer had a plastic vent pipe. Inadequate at best, dangerous at worst. I phoned Same Day Service between 8 and 9 a.m., the repairman phoned at 12:15 and arrived at one Had all the equipment he needed on the truck, replaced the vent, cleaned up gave me the price before he started work. Bruce was the fellows name, he was efficient, competent, and pleasant. I would recommend this company to all my friends who are homeowners. I cannot say enough good things about this company. I had them in to repair my dishwasher a week earlier, and I would say absolutely the same thing about that job.

Description of Work: I'm hoping this report changes what is ultimately going to happen with me and Same day service. I have paid them with my credit card and they have me over the barrel because they disabled my tenants dryer. Yes, the dryer has a plastic vent tube and is filled with lint. Yes, that does represent a fire hazard. Has it been that way for a while, sure, and if anyone who reads this thinks it's a good idea to fix these things, it is. But now I'm stuck, and here's hoping things improve. So far I think it has been a mistake and a series of ugliness - but here's hoping, stay tuned - Short story, I called, they came same day, the guy quoted me a price $637 or something minus a 10% discount to replace the shocks and a tripod, clean out the dryer. But nothing could be done or fixed until I had the dryer vent tube replaced. "It's federal LAW" says Richard the service manager guy! Oh, NO, not the FBDI! Federal Bureau of Dryer Investigation.

THIS CUSTOMER CALLED OUR COMPANY TO REQUEST SERVICE ON HIS TENANT’S WASHER. PER THE CUSTOMER’S REQUEST, WE CONTACTED THE TENANT AND SCHEDULED SERVICE. OUR TECHNICIAN FOUND THE TRIPOD STRUCTURE ON THE WASHER WAS BENT AND THEREFORE REQUIRED AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR. SINCE THIS IS A STACKABLE UNIT (WASHER AND DRYER ARE ONE), WE CAN NOT SIMPLY REPAIR ONE SECTION OF THE MACHINE AND LEAVE THE OTHER SECTION UNCHECKED. TO DO SO WOULD BE IRRESPONSIBLE AND A DISSERVICE TO THE CUSTOMER. WHEN THE TECHNICIAN CHECKED THE DRYER, HE FOUND IT WAS OPERATING AT 195+ DEGREES WITH PLASTIC VENTING. HE DETERMINED THIS WAS A SEVERE FIRE HAZARD AND NOT SAFE TO OPERATE IN THIS CONDITION, SO HE DISABLED THE DRYER. IF AN APPLIANCE IS LEAKING GAS WOULD YOU EXPECT US TO TURN OFF THE GAS? IF A WASHER IS LEAKING WATER WOULD YOU HAVE US SHUT OFF THE WATER SUPPLY? IF AN ELECTRIC APPLIANCE IS SHOCKING THE USER, WOULD YOU EXPECT US TO CUT OFF THE ELECTRICAL SUPPLY TO THAT APPLIANCE? I BELIEVE THAT YOU WOULD ANSWER YES TO ALL OF THESE. JUST RECENTLY, A WOMAN IN LEXINGTON LOST HER LIFE IN A FIRE THAT WAS CAUSED BY A DRYER LINT FIRE. SADLY, THIS HAPPENS TOO OFTEN ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. WE TOOK THE STEPS WE FELT WERE NECESSARY TO PREVENT THIS TENANT FROM BECOMING ANOTHER STATISTIC. WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IRRESPONSIBLE IF WE DID NOT TAKE THE ACTION WE DID. I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS CUSTOMER DOES NOT THINK WE ACTED IN HIS AND HIS TENANT’S BEST INTERESTS. THE CUSTOMER CALLED IN AT 4:47 PM SAME DAY TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT WITH A SUPERVISOR. ONCE AGAIN, THE CUSTOMER DEMANDED THAT WE RE-ENABLE THE DRYER, EVEN THOUGH IT COULD LITERALLY CATCH FIRE. RICH, OUR SUPERVISOR, EXPLAINED THAT WE WILL NOT ENABLE AN APPLIANCE THAT WE HAVE KNOWINGLY DOCUMENTED IS UNSAFE IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION. THE CUSTOMER TOLD RICH IF WE DID NOT RE-ENABLE HIS DRYER, HE WOULD “BAD MOUTH” US TO ANGIE’S LIST. ONCE AGAIN, RICHARD TOLD HIM NO. RICHARD ADVISED HIM THAT HE COULD ALWAYS BUY A NEW UNIT (NOT FROM US, WE DO NOT SELL) AND WE WOULD NOT EVEN CHARGE HIM THE SERVICE CHARGE FOR COMING OUT. AFTER A LITTLE MORE GRUMBLING, THE CUSTOMER INSISTED THAT HE WANTED TO GO AHEAD WITH THIS REPAIR SINCE THE QUALITY OF THE NEWER APPLIANCES IS LACKING. RICHARD MADE IT VERY CLEAR THAT IF THE CUSTOMER WANTED TO DO THIS REPAIR, HE WOULD BE CHARGING THE CREDIT CARD, ORDERING THE PARTS, AND THE VENTING WOULD NEED TO BE CHANGED (WE REFERRED HIM TO DRYER VENT WIZARD FOR THE VENTING) BEFORE WE WOULD COMPLETE THIS REPAIR. THE CUSTOMER INSISTED THAT HE WANTED TO GO FORWARD WITH THIS REPAIR. IT IS ALWAYS OUR GOAL TO DO ALL WE CAN TO MAKE OUR CUSTOMERS HAPPY. HOWEVER, WHEN A CUSTOMER DEMANDS THAT WE COMPROMISE THE SAFETY OF OTHERS (EITHER THROUGH IGNORANCE OR INDIFFERENCE); WE CAN NOT AND WILL NOT LOWER OUR STANDARDS. I MUST ADMIT THAT I AM PERPLEXED BY THIS CUSTOMER. WHY WOULD YOU AUTHORIZE A REPAIR AND BE STUCK TO A COMPANY THAT YOU OBVIOUSLY DON’T AGREE WITH? MOST OF THE PARTS WE ARE INSTALLING COME WITH A 5 YEAR GUARANTEE THROUGH OUR COMPANY, SO WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO REPAIR SOMETHING KNOWING THAT YOU NEED TO CALL OUR COMPANY FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS (SHOULD IT BREAK AGAIN)? THE ONLY THING WE HAD CHARGED HIM FOR WAS THE SERVICE CALL. WE EVEN OFFERED TO REFUND THE SERVICE CHARGE. THIS CUSTOMER MADE HIS OWN DECISION AND INSISTED THAT HE DID WANT TO GO AHEAD WITH THE REPAIR. IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE A COPY OF THE CPSC, MA BUILDING CODE, ETC. PLEASE SEND US AN EMAIL FOR LINKS TO THIS SUBSTANTIAL INFORMATION. ALSO, CONSULT YOUR DRYER INSTALLATION MANUAL AS THERE ARE NOT ANY MANUFACTURERS THAT WILL ALLOW PLASTIC VENTING CONNECTED TO A DRYER. OUR COMPANY HAS BEEN LISTED ON ANGIE’ LIST FOR YEARS. I AM ALSO A PAYING MEMBER AND PERSONALLY UTILIZE IT TO FIND COMPETENT PROFESSIONALS. I THINK IT IS A GREAT DISSERVICE TO OTHER PAYING MEMBERS WHEN THESE TYPES OR REPORTS ARE USED TO TRY TO THREATEN A COMPANY INTO TAKING ACTIONS THAT ARE IRRESPONSIBLE OR UNETHICAL. IT IS MY HOPE THAT THIS CUSTOMER UNDERSTANDS THAT THE SAFETY OF OTHERS IS OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY AND THAT WE WILL ALWAYS DO THE RIGHT THING REGARDLESS OF ANY INCONVENIENCE THAT MIGHT BE INCURRED.
