Relaxed bathroom faucet and sink stopper and tested. After leaving it does leak a little every so often. Asked him to check Main shutoff valve in basement to fix at another time. Called number of times to get appointment but no call backs.

An employee of Richard Black Plumbing attempted to install a new drain in pedestal sink. He had trouble getting the old drain out. After he got the old pipe out he had a great deal of trouble getting the new chrome plated copper aligned with the trap behind the sink. He claimed that the pipe was off by 1/4 inch, an explanation that I found peculiar. Mr Black came and said that he would try to order another pipe but couldn't guarantee that it would fit. Instead he strongly suggested installation of a plastic flexible pipe. Mr Black called the next day to say that he had ordered a new metal connector pipe but that it wouldn’t be in until the following day and only then would he know if it really would fit. He again recommended the flexible plastic pipe. After his call, I looked up the flexible plastic pipe on the web and found that it is not approved by the building code because it does not have a smooth interior surface. Therefore it collects debris and clogs frequently. I called Richard Black back and told him that it was not approved by the code. He said:" Why don’t you get someone else to finish the job. I don’t want to do business with you."

My family and I have been using their services for over forty years. He is very good with emergency work and is extremely reliable when you need someone immediately. However, it can be a bit harder scheduling a bathroom remodel job through him. I definitely trust his judgment on things. He doesn’t look for work that doesn’t need to be done. He is very personable, trustworthy, and friendly. Richard is great to deal with.

I like this company because they have fast response time and they are local. They get right to me. I once had a guy that took forever getting here when my pipes were frozen, so I appreciate their services. They totally take care of me. They work quickly. They do not overcharge and I think they are great to be perfectly honest with you. I would highly recommend them to just about anyone.

ON ANOTHER OCCASION I CALLED RICHARD BLACK WHEN I FOUND THE HEAT WAS OFF IN A RARELY-OCCUPIED HOUSE. THE SITUATION REQUIRED HIM TO CALL IN AN ELECTRICAL SUBCONTRACTOR. RICHARD BLACK WAS PROMPT, COURTEOUS, AND PROFESSIONAL AS ALWAYS. WHEN THE INITIAL SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM FAILED OVERNIGHT, HE WORKED WITH ME (MY SCHEDULE AND THE WEATHER) TO FIND TIMES TO RETURN. HE RETURNED TWICE: ONCE TO TROUBLESHOOT AND TRY OTHER REMEDIES, AND ONCE WITH AN ELECTRICIAN TO GET THE BOILER BACK INTO SERVICE. THE ELECTRICIAN, BERNIE, RECTIFIED THE PROBLEM, THEN EXPLAINED SOME FAULTS IN THE PRESENT SYSTEM THAT MAY CAUSE IT TO FAIL AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. THEIR VISIT LEFT ME FEELING IN CONTROL: WITH HEAT, KNOWLEDGE, AND PLANS FOR FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS. WHILE I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE THE BILL, I KNOW IT WILL BE COSTLY BECAUSE IT INVOLVED SEVERAL HOURS OF TIME FOR THE PROFESSIONALS. WHILE NOT ''CHEAP'' RICHARD BLACK'S WORK HAS ALWAYS BEEN REASONABLY PRICED FOR SERVICES RENDERED, AND A GOOD VALUE FOR MY DOLLAR.
