The actual visit from the HVAC, the plumber and the owner were thorough and informative. No doubt they know what they are talking about.
Description of Work: We choose to go with another company for our HVAC and plumbing needs because the price was thousands over the other two quotes we received and it took well over a week and several phone calls just to get the plumbing quote from the owner of the company. After hearing far too many excuses on why he was incapable of getting the written quote to us as he promised, it was an easy decision made easier and we went elsewhere.

It went well. They came on time and finished the work thoroughly with two workmen present.
Description of Work: We have a maintenance contract with Pann for our heating system. They always remind us when an inspection is due. This year they found a problem requiring a replacement part and fixed it. They also advised us on getting a CO monitoring in the house. On past occasions they have come out to fix emergency problems such as faulty hot water heater.

They were very very nice people. I thought that the people that I first had called were very helpful and very knowledgeable. I was very surprised about that. It wasn't just the lady receptionists, they asked a lot of questions, ones that made me think. They then set up for one of their heating specialists come out. I was very impressed because the owner himself came out. He was very knowledgeable and down to earth. I was given a couple of options on basic installation. He showed me a very efficient and high tech system and gave me references of five different people who had gotten that system in that past two months. I called two of those references who both said it was the owner's knowledge that they bought because he's so good. So I ended up going with the thirteen thousand dollar system. The guys even helped my wife put away the groceries. I probably paid more money for them but we have never seen anybody ever that was so polite. Every time they had to walk through the house they would wear little booties. They have been around since 1950 and so we read some of the postings on Angie's List and I am always very skeptical when I read these things because I'm in business myself. But they are a very good company.
Description of Work: They came out to my home and put in a new heating system and they replaced two toilets.

The company sent over, basically, a child who spent hours without being able to install the fixture correctly. This was one of the simplest fixtures imaginable, basically a light bulb on a cord with some fancy trim. He was never able to turn the power on. We called another electrician who fixed the problem in five minutes. The company kept refusing to refund our payment. This was my second horrendous experience with the company. They are useful in an emergency because they answer the phone, as long as your comfortable with a high price and work that may either be OK or need immediate replacement by another contractor.
Description of Work: Install a simple, overhead pendant light in a kitchen to replace an existing fixture.

We have a very good and close relationship with them since we have used them many, many times. The only bad thing is that once the contract is signed, they manage to find additional things that need to be done, raising the price we pay. This has been mentioned before by other people. I wish they were more thorough when they did their estimates. They do offer 3-5 year warranties and they honor those very well.
Description of Work: They have done heating, electrical and painting as well as general contracting for us. They can do anything you want, even build an addition on your house.

Two months later I came home and the furnace was completely shot. They told me the furnace was fine and I had to have the air circulation system rebuilt. I don't know if they should have caught this but the repair came as a shock. The motor and wheel of the furnace were blown. I just don't know how it could checked and OK and then something so major go wrong within such a short time. One advantage is that they did come on short notice and were professional and polite. They have a dispatch fee of $196. I am looking for another company to use for service.
Description of Work: They did a seasonal check on my furnace and did some general maintenance on the burner which included valve tagging. They did a heating inspection and they did a humidifier cleaning. They really tried to push me getting a service contract with them, which I made clear I did not want.

COMPANY POLICY IS NOT TO REPLACE ITEMS AT TIME OF INSPECTION THAT ARE OPERATING PROPERLY. WHEN OUR INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED THE SYSTEM WAS PERFORMING PROPERLY IN ALL IT'S OPERATING FUNCTIONS. UNFORTUNATELY TWO MONTHS LATER INTERNAL WORKING PARTS WHICH ARE NOT VISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE STOPPED PERFORMING. HAD WE BEEN ABLE TO SEE THIS AT THE TIME OF INSPECTION WE WOULD HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO THE CUSTOMERS ATTENTION. I called Pann to come out for an assessment of my central air unit which was not pumping any cold air. I was explicitly told that it would run $59.95 for someone to come out and assess the situation. To my surprise, however, as soon as the tech showed up at my door he informed me that it would be an additional $219 to do a diagnostic! Of course, I felt pressured to agree since he was already here and I take full responsibility for allowing the tech to come in my door. I called Pann to express my concern about their dishonest business practice approach and that they should specifically tell customers that the $60 rate is for the dispatch ONLY, and that any diagnostic work would be extra. I am seriously disappointed, appalled and disgusted with this company.

Everything that this companies workers put there hands on had to be corrected by another company. This company is sales driven with pushy salesmen type workers whose work was substandard and they are SO expensive. They installed a pedestal sink, the hot water didn't work right and it was not secured to the wall correctly. They installed a toilet, it was not done so correctly and the o ring leaked water onto the ceiling below me. They installed a gas dryer and vent. I had a gas leak. The only thing I can say good about this company is that they come when they say they will. Everything they did had to be corrected by another company. Shop around before you hire this company. I hired them through the yellow pages because I was in a blind and they responded quickly. I learned my lesson.
Description of Work: This company replaced 2 fixtures (sink/toilet) hooked up a shower fixture to a clawfoot tub and installed a dryer vent for a gas clothes dryer.

Fine. On time and professional. He removed the current toilet and was able to get the block out by snaking it from the waste-end. I'll be able to return the replacement unit. They charged about 3-4 times what my regular plumber would have charged... but I knew that coming in and hired them only because our regular plumber was out of the country.
Description of Work: Called in to fix or replace a clogged toilet. Our 2 year old flushed a wooden block down the drain and it was stuck in place... worse yet, I jammed it in with the toilet snake. Based on my regular plumber's recommendation I purchased a new toilet base to replace the toilet.

They had to disconnect my old unit and connect the new. The price seem to be very high. They also charged me quite a bit while the inspector was here to check the work- for six minutes I was charged $221.
Description of Work: I had them hook up my new gas dryer.

Scheduled annual inspection was delayed one week. Was carried out to find two parts needed replacing along with cleaning of tubes. Work was completed in one-half day, but parts had to be ordered and delivered the following week.
Description of Work: Annual inspection as part of maintenance contract. Boiler cleaning and tuneup. Replace ignition control module, replace spark ignition with sensor and re-wire.

Pann was able to get someone here next day. They gave us a 4 hour window and said we would be called about 30 minutes before the tech arrived. Call came a but earlier than the window and tech arrived shortly thereafter. He gave me a price, but also offered a reasonably priced service contract and would apply appropriate discount on this job, effectively cutting cost of contract in half. He did the job in about an hour and working fine now. Also set up the inspection that is part of the new contract. Technician was low key, no pressure on the service contract, just presented the facts.
Description of Work: Pilot light on gas furnace would not stay lit and therefore furnace did not work. Determined the thermocouple needed to be replaced.

We called Pann because the 20 year old furnace in our newly purchased condo wouldn't start. The repairmen was an hour and 20 minutes late (appointment was for 8 am and he showed up at 9:20). Before beginning work, he explained that he would have to charge $240 for a "diagnostic" on top of another $60 fee for showing up. The diagnostic involved taking off the cover and poking around a little bit. When he was finished, he explained that there was a problem with the "board" and a new one would cost $800, which he wanted me to purchase from him on the spot, along with the labor to install the board. I was not confident that Jason (the serviceman) actually knew what he was doing. He explained that the board may or may not be the problem. We will probably end up buying a new furnace, but definitely won't ask Pann to bid on the job.

First two men (sales reps?) were sent not to discuss/assess work to be done, but to look around a bit and collect $60 non-refundable fee and leave a flurry of brochures. Project manager came days later pushing high-end, custom-made products and elaborate projects. No rough estimates for plumbing, electrical work, etc. Written proposal was sketchy, contradictory, far from complete, had few dollar amounts, and had vague time-frame. This poorly-written document was referred to within its text as proposal, estimate, and contract, which I was to sign(!). I called and then faxed detailed requests. Week later received essentially same earlier document, misspellings and all. Poor reply to phone messages. Appointments re-scheduled. I received distinct impression that my "middle class" bathroom repair/remodeling was nowhere near the high-end McMansion profit range they were after.
Description of Work: Initial visit by 2 sales reps to look at bathroom to be repaired and remodeled, and to collect $60 non-refundable fee. Project manager made brief visit and sent bare outline of a proposal, which was called a contract and which I was asked to sign. I did not. This company advertises quite a bit locally and has lately promoted itself with charity sports events and such.

Two men spent hours cleaning out the dryer unit. They took apart the machine and really didn't seem to know what they were doing. They couldn't even put it back together properly. I was then told that I needed a new duct system. I have since found out that the duct system was not installed correctly. They used the wrong type of joint which was not fitted properly. As a result, the dryer did not vent properly and became totally clogged which blew a switch. The sole purpose of the work they did was to prevent this from happening. I was told their work was abyssmal by my repairman. I had to have the switch repaired and the ducts cleaned costing me another $400. They also bent the underlying pan on the stackable unit and the door will not close properly. Yet another thing that will have to be replaced due to their incompetance. I will never use them again.
Description of Work: They were hired initially to repair my dryer. I was told it could not be repaired. I was then told that the duct work needed to be replaced.

I found this company great to deal with. I was able to get an appointment with 24 hours, the technicians showed up on time, they were courteous and professional, they diagnosed the problem, gave me a written estimate, and then fixed the problem. I even received a follow up phone call to be sure the A/C was working properly later in the day. I do not know if this was expensive compared to other companies because we have never had a problem with central A/C before, but I did not feel cheated at all.
Description of Work: Our central air stopped working suddenly - they came diagnosed the problem and fixed it.

Mixed. Outstanding job on sewer overflow problem. Created big leak in kitchen while working on bathroom plumbing. Have never compensated us for the damage or repaired it. Always prompt and professional. Generally very responsive but did not respond for hours to fix leak they caused. Always punctual.
Description of Work: Our earliest experience with Pann involved solving a problem of sewer backup on very rainy days. Later we had them improve the plumbing in our bathrooms and install a dishwasher and in-sink garbage disposal.

Very professional and prompt. I needed the work done for insurance reasons so time was a factor for me. You definitely pay extra for fast and proper service, but you do get what you pay for. I have since had them look at other projects, but I have not gotten estimates, because I know they will be out of my price range.
Description of Work: Upgraded service from 60 to 200 amps. This included: running new conduit and wires down the outside of house, replacing/remounting panel and meter, and installing new grounding rods in the basement floor.

Although they gave an appointment right away (next day). the technician was 1.5 hours late (I had to call the dispatcher and let them know that no one had shown up after 45 minutes. Apparently this was the first they heard that the original technician had not come to work at all that day). Without inspecting water heater they told me that I needed a new one and gave an estimate of $2,000. It turned out that the water heater was not broken after all, but an Nstar gas employee had turned down the dial to do work on our gas meter. Thankfully I found this out from NStar before going ahead! I felt extremely cheated by the company and would highly recommend that you not use them.

Pann charges a $60 service call just to come for an estimate. It was easy to make an appointment and they arrived promptly and seemed to be knowledgeable and professional. After discussing what we wanted and looking at the basement, they said they'd e-mail us the estimate. Five days later we still hadn't heard back. I e-mailed the company and they called back promptly to set up another $60 appointment. (I declined.) Two days after that the estimate arrived. It is for well more than we expected the job to be for. At the time of the service call the salesman had though we'd need a 2.4 gpm unit which agreed with our research. The quote was for a 4.2 gpm unit. It had almost no cost breakdown to allow us to tell what we would be getting and why the cost was so high. We're still considering our options.
Description of Work: We are considering switching from a standard tank water heater to a tankless and called Pann for an estimate.

Pann Co. does provide extremely good service. I made two separate phone calls to schedule for an electrician and handyman to come over, and they sent over one person who could do both. The estimate was pleasant, the guy was very nice, personable, and wore soft booties over his boots to protect my floors. What wasn't so great was the $59.95 charge just to have them come over at all. What I wanted was some lighting installed, a few closet shelves installed, and a pantry closet built out. I had previously gotten estimates and have since gotten more estimates, and Pann Co.'s estimates were WAY higher. I'm talking about 4 times at least, more expensive. They wanted $1800 just to install two pendant lights, and $2200 for two recessed lights. $1200 to put in 4 simple wire shelves in the bathroom (which we ended up doing ourselves), and over $5k to build a simple pantry closet with two walls already there. Good service, good company, but way out of my price range.

What a mistake! It being my first home owning experience it took me some time to catch on to their M.O. What they do well is show up on time, on demand, whenever you like. But unless you already know exactly how your whole plumbing and heating system works, expect them to gouge you, upping the estimate wherever possible. The clincher was last year when they told me I needed an expansion tank for my heating to work, and that it would cost $5,500. Turns out I already have an expansion tank! I suppose my being a female means I can't read. I didn't realize until I got a plumber I can trust that these guys are total crooks. Another problem was a leak in the bathroom that required a $5 part replacement. I know because the empty box for the part was in the garbage. Once he got the wall open he upped his estimate from $150 to $750. What was I to do? My bathroom wall was open!
Description of Work: Over a period of several years they did various jobs. Fixed a leak in the bathroom, put in a new hot water heater, fixed the heat (for a couple days), got the disposal working, gave estimate on fixing heating system (which turned out to be false). I called them because their name was on the plumbing equipment when I bought the house and because they show up quickly.

THE WORK THEY DID WAS FINE BUT THEY HAVE YET TO PROVIDE ME WITH A BREAK DOWN OF THE COST WHICH I HAVE ASKED FOR. THEY HAVE BEEN COURTEOUS, AND HAVE ANSWERED MY CALLS. THE WORK WAS EXPENSIVE, AFTER THE WORK WAS COMPLETED, THE HOSE TO THE WASHING MACHINE WAS NOT RE ATTACHED CAUSING A PROBLEM WITH THE WATER, BUT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DISCOUNT 10% FOR MY INCONVENIENCE. THE PRICE INCLUDES A DISCOUNT FOR MY SIGNING UP FOR A GUARANTEE PROGRAM OF THEIRS.

WE HAVE USED PANN FOR HEATING AND A/C REPAIR FOR MANY YEARS. THEY ARE CONSISTENTLY RESPONSIVE, FRIENDLY, AND PROFESSIONAL. VERY GOOD RESPONSE TIME, CLEAR ESTIMATES, NICE PEOPLE. IN THIS CASE, THE MOTOR WAS FIXED WITHIN 24 HOURS AND THEY PERFORMED SOME PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE AT THE SAME TIME FOR NO EXTRA CHARGE.
