Awful -- see above.
Description of Work: We formerly were members of PANN. They repaired our toilet -- it wasn't fixed and they had to come back. They replaced all our smoke alarms -- we were charged through the nose for the work and then one of them didn't work; they came back to replace it, but we're still having problems. They came to investigate our leaking dishwasher -- charged us $75 for 5 minutes to tell us it wasn't a plumbing problem, but a dishwasher problem. When our heat stopped working they replaced the control panel only to not solve the problem and have a different repair person from PANN tell us nothing was wrong with the control panel. Next they told us the air vent was dirty and that was the problem; nope, heat continued cutting out (this is December mind you!). Next it was that the duct exchange was too small and we'd need to rip out the duct work and install a bigger system (quote of about $1000 for this). Turns out that none of that was right about our heating. After that experience we cancelled our membership -- took them a few months and a couple of phone calls before they actually got it cancelled. The one positive I can say for them is that they can get someone to your house pretty quickly to look at a problem and give you an exorbitant quote.

Description of Work: I wanted central air conditioning for my top (3rd) floor condo in an old building with hot water baseboard heat and a 26" attic crawl space. A very nice salesman named Ken Young and an electrician who works for the company checked out my space, did the calculations and produced a proposal for a Space Pak high velocity system for $16,389.00. I thought they would probably do a good job but I balked at the price and went with a lower cost contractor.

DON'T ASSUME THAT BECAUSE THEY ARE A BIGGER COMPANY WITH MORE TECHNICIANS THAT THEY WILL BE MORE AVAILABLE OR ON TIME. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS ON THE PHONE WERE GREAT, BUT MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE ACTUAL SCHEDULING AND TECHNICIANS WAS A NIGHTMARE. IT TOOK THREE SEPARATE PERIODS OF ME SETTING ASIDE 3-HR BLOCKS OF TIME FOR ME TO WAIT AT HOME UNTIL THE SERVICE PROVIDER ACTUALLY SHOWED UP TO MAKE AN ESTIMATE. (THE FIRST TIME THEY HAD ENTERED MY INFO INTO THE COMPUTER WRONG, THE SECOND TIME THEY HAD NO TECHNICIANS AVAILABLE. ) THEN SOMEONE SHOWED UP ON THE THIRD DAY OF WAITING AND MADE AN ESTIMATE OF ABOUT $750 TO INSTALL AN EXTRA PHONE JACK AND REPLACE A LIGHT FIXTURE IN THE BASEMENT. HE ASKED FOR A DEPOSIT AND I GAVE HIM $350, AFTER EXPLAINING THAT THE ONLY TIME I HAD AVAILABLE FOR THEM TO DO THE WORK WAS THE FOLLOWING AFTERNOON (SINCE THEY HAD ALREADY WASTED 6 HOURS OF MY TIME.) SO HE TOOK THE MONEY, PROMISED TO SHOW UP ON TIME. THE NEXT DAY, NOBODY CAME. I CALLED AND THEY TOLD ME HE WA

A JUNIOR TECHNICIAN HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE WORKING ON AN OLDER FURNACE. TOOK SEVERAL SERVICE CALLS TO GET MY FURNACE WORKING AGAIN. AT FIRST THEIR CHARGES WERE EXCESSIVE, THOUGH SOME WERE REFUNDED AFTER I COMPLAINED.

THEY ARE GOOD TO HAVE 'ON CALL' FOR REAL EMERGENCIES WHEN NO ONE ELSE IS AVAILABLE. HOWEVER, WHEN I FIRST OWNED A HOUSE, I USED THEM REGULARLY AND THEN DISCOVERED THEIR PRICES WERE VERY HIGH - MORE SO THAN MOST OTHER PLUMBERS.
Description of Work: THEY INSTALLED AN OUTDOOR FAUCET FOR ME ABOUT A YEAR AGO AT THE PRICE OF $600. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD RECENTLY CHANGED THEIR PRICING STRUCTURE. THAT WAS THE LAST TIME I USED THEM AND DECLINED TO HAVE A NO-SCALD SHOWER CONTROL INSTALLED THAT I HAD HOPED TO PUT IN THAT DAY (FOR WHAT I WAS TOLD WOULD BE ANOTHER $1,000!). ONE OTHER TIME THEY INSTALLED A WATER TANK FOR A TENANT -- WHEN WE COMPLAINED THAT IT WAS DENTED, THEY SAID THE INSIDE WASN'T DAMAGED - NO REDUCTION IN PRICE.

WE USE THE PANN COMPANY FOR OTHER WORK AND HAVE BEEN SATISFIED WITH THEM. SO, WE WEREN'T CONSIDERING GETTING OTHER BIDS UNTIL THEY FAILED TO PRODUCE AN ESTIMATE THE FIRST TIME WE ASKED. SOMEONE CAME TO THE HOUSE AND GOT ALL THE INFORMATION, BUT NEVER GOT BACK TO US WITH THE ESTIMATE. AFTER NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS, THEY SENT A SECOND PERSON TO COME AND DO THE ESTIMATE. HE DIDN'T TAKE ANY NOTES AND SAID HE WOULD RELY ON THE PREVIOUS PERSON'S NOTES! WELL, IF HE WAS GOING TO DO THAT, WE COULD HAVE SAVED THE THEATER FOLKS THEIR TIME (AND OURS) AND NOT HAVE THEM COME OUT AGAIN TO EXPLAIN THE WIRING! WHEN THE ESTIMATE FINALLY ARRIVED, IT WAS MORE THAN 3 TIMES WHAT ANOTHER COMPANY HAD SUBMITTED ($8900 VS. $2400). WHEN WE CALLED TO EXPRESS OUR SHOCK, WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY CONSIDERED THEIR PRICES 'COMPETITIVE.'

THEY FLAT OUT LIED ABOUT REMOVING MY HOUSE TRAP, WHICH I FOUND OUT LATER WHEN I HIRED ANOTHER CONTRACTOR TO FIX THE REAL PROBLEM. THEY DUG A HOLE, STOOD AROUND IT FOR A WHILE, FILLED IT BACK IN, AND THEN CHARGED ME $2000. SINCE I WORK FULL TIME AND HAD NO ONE TO WATCH OVER THEM, I GUESS THEY THOUGHT THEY COULD GET AWAY WITH IT. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, THEY THEN TRIED TO CONVINCE ME THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE THE ENTIRE SEWER LINE DUG UP AND REPLACED FROM MY HOUSE OUT TO THE MAIN SEWER LINE ($8000 ESTIMATE). AFTER GETTING OTHER OPINIONS, FOUND OUT THAT THE DAMAGED SECTION WAS NOT EVEN THE PART THEY WANTED TO REPLACE. CALLED RL PANN TO COMPLAIN, TO NO AVAIL.

Description of Work: I HAVE A SERVICE CONTRACT WITH ROBERT PANN. ONE FRIDAY EVENING I HAD A DRAIN STOPPED AND MY TENANT CALLED THEM THE COME AND CLEAR THE DRAIN.
