Couldn't take phone calls due to work and family situations, so i emailed. Said he'd need to travel to see but use someone else if i already talked to someone running to care less about the work. I hadn't talked to anyone else and I sent photos to see if it could help and prevent him from having to make the travel. He told me he wasn't going to email back and forth and that he answered my question in the first email. Accused me of being a fake. Maybe an "I appreciate you trying to help with the photos but I still need to check it out" response would hve been more professional. Telling me he won't work with me without talking on the phone is presumptuous - people have circumstances and some people are deaf. I dont give my number until I am definitely going to work with someone due to repeated calls and personal reasons. Chris was very very rude. Perhaps he had a bad day. Perhaps his work is good. But I didnt appreciate the accusations and the way he spoke (emailed) to me.

I contacted Middlesex Tree Service (MTS) for an estimate of the work. Within a couple of days, Justin contacted me and came out within a week with a written estimate. We received several estimates from highly rated Tree Services, and MTS was the best price. Justin was very responsive by phone and text to schedule the date for removal and did the work as promised. My wife and I couldn't be more pleased with the ease of working with Justin and MTS to have this work done. Would hire them again - Highly recommend. provided an estimate for the removal of a 60 foot tree

The estimate from Chris was slightly higher than what some other providers quoted but we decided to go with him primarily because of the knowledge Chris had. He planned everything from what tools he will need and how he will approach during the estimation. The only minor suggestion is to do a better scheduling. Chris confirmed me the date and time just about a day before he actually did the work but he did offer flexibility if I want a different day , even agreed to accept the payment a day later if I cannot be home ! I was available and so it worked perfect. Chris, his Son and two other gentlemen worked for over 4 hours to complete the work including pruning some additional branches per my request as well as chip another small tree which I had cut down myself earlier. All in all , a job well done and a happy customer.

It went very well. They came with the trucks and equipment they needed. They were very careful to do only what I wanted. They left the yard cleaner than they found it. I expect I will have to have them back every few years. I want the trees for privacy but I need to keep them under control.
Description of Work: Trimmed my out of River birches and shaped my Japanese maples. Came with the proper equipment (a telescoping bucket and chipper). The bucket went up and over the trees to trim both sides. Because I live in the city, and access is a problem, the job had to be done on a Saturday or holiday. They were very accomodating.

The service we were given from Middlesex Tree Service was awesome!! Their prices beat out everyone else, and their quality was outstanding. I was glad to hear that they were fully insured, and had all of the right equipment to get the job done quickly and professionally. They communicated with us often, and got our service done within a couple weeks of our initial meeting. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking to have trees taken down on their property!

The company was working across the street removing two large oaks and a smaller tree from my neighbor's yard. One of the oaks was almost 100 years old. They had a huge crane, two boom trucks, a huge chipper and two trucks for chipping. After finishing the job, the owner Chris asked if I would be interested in removing my ash tree. The tree was healthy but the roots were creating problems along the surface of the ground so we weren't sorry to see it go. It took about an hour to remove the major branches with the crane and then the trunk was cut off. They cleaned up the area. A logging truck removed the logs the next day. The crew was friendly and competent.

Very good experience, the owner and crew showed up when expected and completed the work efficiently and carefully. A plant was in the way of setting up their equipment so they dug it out and replaced it gently when they were through. I recommend them without reservation and I've given their name to friends. I plan to have them back in the future for other projects.

Chris did a good job eventually, but he took forever and was rude to boot. Seems unreliable. The owner, Chris, did an estimate on 12/22/12 and told me he'd have the job done in a few weeks. After the first few weeks without hearing back from him, I called and he told me they were waiting on another job nearby and he would be out soon. A few more weeks went by - they were still waiting on a nearby job. Then the snow came, and we had to hunker down and wait it out. One of the reasons we had called him was because the top part of the tree was hanging off from storm damage. When the first of our winter storms was predicted, I was extremely worried that it was going to fall on my house. I called him, and when I pointed out that I was worried about the safety myself and my neighbors, he reluctantly agreed to come out that day and remove that part of the tree. To give him credit, he came out at 8:00 at night to get it trimmed before the storm hit. (I believe this was in January) He then told me he'd "call me soon." I never heard back. I assumed it was because it was too cold for them to work, and we'd hear back from them when the weather got warmer. When we still didn't hear back, I called in April and he told me he had lost my paperwork. He told me he'd be out within two weeks, and he'd call me to let me know when. He called my house on 4/28/13 at 9:30 PM to let me know he'd be out the next day. At that point, there was no way I could get a day off, so I told him I'd be at work, but my father-in-law would be in the house and he could talk to him if there were any problems or questions. He didn't indicate that this would be a problem. I got home while the trucks were still there. Apparently, Chris had just expected me to leave money for the job with my father-in-law. I don't know why he expected I would pay for a job before I inspected it, but if his expectation was cash on delivery, he should have made that clear when I told him I wouldn't be home. At any rate, he was rude to both my father-in-law, and then my wife as she was writing him a check! Since they were still present when I got home, I confronted him about his behavior, at which point he lost it. He denied any rude behavior, told me all of his employees and his son would vouch for his good behavior, and that my wife was rude because she walked by him without talking to him when she went to meet my daughter from the bus. He then sent his son to look over the work with me, and the work was done well. His son told me that they had an expensive machine break down that day, they had to pull people off other jobs, etc...but the bottom line is, whatever your problems are, you don't take them out on the customer. His ranting and raving at me did nothing to convince me of his claim that he had been perfectly polite - a point which he didn't seem to grasp. Then he did one of the most childish things I have ever witnessed - he refused to take the check from my hand. He insisted I give it to his son, leave it on the truck, mail it to him, etc... I should have just ripped it up, but he eventually took it from me. It may have been a bad day, but it was 4 months of waiting, where he repeatedly rescheduled us, apparently forgot about the job he had contracted to do, and then yelled at my family. We will not be repeat customers.
Description of Work: Cut down and remove one storm damaged tree that had broken in half, trim branches away from nearby houses on another tree. The price was comparable to other estimates, and he initially struck me as an upright guy, so we went with him.

The biggest challenge we had was scheduling the work -and even that was really too bad. MTS was shall we say a bit casual in getting us on the schedule . That aside, the job they did was AMAZING. Three guys, five trees in less than 3 hours. They were a very efficient team, professional and pleasant to deal with. The price was very reasonable, especially given the challenges of the terrain. Would hire them again in a heartbeat!

The owner was great in getting us the best price for the job. He told us what we should do in the yard and then adjusted it for our budget. These guys were quick and did an awesome job. Would recommend to anyone.
Description of Work: We had some fallen trees from the big winter storms and needed to clean up. We had one tree and debris that was on the ground and another that was stuck in another tree. They took down the hanging tree by cutting piece by piece so it didn't damage my daughter's playset. They chipped all the extra debris. And cut some logs and threw into our stock pile.

I was impressed with how prompt they were given that the hurricane had them very busy. I submitted their estimate to my insurance company who had a few questions but this was quickly resolved and I had their approval. Once I was ready to hire them, they prioritized my case to emergency service status and they were ready to go the next business day. They arrived when they said they would with a sufficient crew to get the job done promptly. The owner Chris Martel was an expert crane operator, safely manuvering the trunk and branches in a very tight space over both my house and the power lines. The clean up was immaculate, they cleared all stray chips from the chipper and sawdust. They even suspended a man from the crane with a powerful leaf blower to clear all the pine needles that were on the garage. This gave the adjuster and roofing repairmen a clear view of the damage to the garage roof. Very pleased with the promptness and professionalism in this very busy time for them. They completed the job in less time than another tree service could send a guy over just for an estimate!
Description of Work: The hurricane knocked over a huge pine tree in my backyard. It was probably 50 feet high and maybe 30+ inches in diameter. It fell over my garage and had a huge root ball. One estimate I got only called for removal of the tree but not the root ball. Middlesex Tree service included removal of the root ball which was a huge deal to me. There was another smaller pine tree next to the fallen one that we prearranged he would cut down as well as a large dogwood in my front lawn for a very small additional fee which brought the total to $2900. They also removed some firewood I was never going to use and removed a branch from another tree that had broken and was precariously perched supported by another tree. I didn't even have to ask him to do that.

We selected Chris and his team because of price and ability to come and remove a tree sooner than another company. They set up quickly and got to work while I watched nervously as a large tree was removed within feet of our house. No need to worry because they made short work of the tree. Would definitely consider them for removing additional trees. Only thing that struck me as a little strange was that I was informed when I arrived that they had not arranged a police detail and that if one showed up that it would be an additional $200 or so. Nobody every showed up but it made me a little nervous since we did take up most of the street. Fortunately my neighbors and I redirected traffic ourselves and Middlesex Tree service was only blocking the road for 1.5 hours.

We first contacted Middlesex Tree Service last fall, about a tree we wanted removed. Someone came to the house promptly, assessed the situation, and gave us an estimate --- a very reasonable one. So we agreed to have the work done. At the time we were told that it would be in about six weeks, as they needed new equipment that had to be shipped. The six weeks came and went. We called, and were told that Hurricane Sandy had disrupted all shipments and they didn't yet know when theirs would be delivered. We waited a while and heard nothing, and so contacted another tree service, which gave us a similar estimate and said they could do the work in January. However, before the second contractor got to us, Middlesex Tree Service showed up at our door. They apologized profusely for not giving us any advance notice and said that if their doing the work right now was inconvenient in any way, they would make an appointment to come back later. Despite this somewhat unbusiness-like approach, we decided to go ahead. All that being said, Middlesex Tree did a great job. They had the tree down in no time at all. At our request, they cut it into smaller pieces for firewood. They cleaned up thoroughly. We would definitely use them again.

Overall the experience was very good. Chris was very prompt in returning my call, and showed up on time to do an estimate. His crew showed up on time and worked very quickly. They put down boards on the lawn so as not to damage the grass. They cleaned up afterwards.
Description of Work: Middlesex tree service took down a large dead tree which was precariously perched at the edge of a wall in our backyard. They also removed a medium size tree which was leaning towards the house, trimmed branches off a tree that were too close to the house, and took down numerous smaller maple trees which had grown up through a chain link fence.

Found Middlesex tree on Angies list. Chris was prompt in returning my phone message and came out to give me a quote. He was very personable. I went over the two trees I wanted down and he identified two other dead tress which needed to go (these had also been identified by our home inspector as needing to be cut down). The additional expense of cutting the two trees seemed well worth it. He had a great price (lowest from our three bids) and they did a great job. Trees were cut very low to the ground and the remaining stumps ground the next day. We will hire Chris again when we have the budget again to cut more trees. Limbs were cut and overall our front yard looks much better. Chris was also the only person to mention that I needed to call dig safe to have my gas and water/sewer lines marked. It was great working with him!
Description of Work: Cut down 4 trees (stumps also ground) and various tree limbs which were encroaching onto garage and house. The trees were allowing squirrels to get onto the roof of out home. (one was a two trunk maple, another maple around 12-18" in diameter and two spruces (less than 1 foot in diameter). Three limbs were pretty high up- inaccessible to us.

We called and asked for an estimate to cut down a few trees that were growing over our driveway. He responded quickly, gave us a fair estimate, and was ready to do the work the same week. We did get another quote which included grinding the stumps so we did not use his services. However, in saving a few dollars, we did not get the quality of work that we saw demonstrated by Middlesex on our neighbor's yard. I would not make that mistake again.
Description of Work: We asked for and received an estimate based on work we had seen him do for a neighbor. He did not perform any services for us.
