Best contractor experience to date. John took more time than all other painters to scope out the job, which was by the way, in the pouring rain. John's estimate was by far the most complete and professional. On paper John's estimate was the highest, however, other estimates excluded items that were discussed in the scoping, were labor only prices excluding materials, or were 2 sentences in an email with a price. Bottom line, I didn't trust most of the other bids. All were local companies, I won't list them but in looking at other Angie's customer ratings and comments, its easy to identify them. Unlike other contractors who estimate the job and then send a crew of strangers that you can't communicate with, John showed up with one employee and did the job himself. In addition to exterior painting, John replaced quite a bit of rotted trim boards and split pieces of siding. This season was very rainy. John managed the project and others so that no actual painting was done when the wood was wet or rain was expected, concerned with this, I kept close watch. Each day the property was cleaned up. John and his worker were always professional and polite. In the end my house looks great and I feel I certainly got my money's worth. I am planning an interior project and won't bother with bids. All future paint work for me will be with John Murphy Painting.

Excellent work by an incredibly conscientious and competent contractor. John Murphy knows his paint business extremely well. He is extremely careful to do only what is needed and do it correctly. You rarely find any touch up needed after he leaves. His crews are always very conscientious and clean up perfectly each time they work on the job. While painting he also makes repairs that are needed to the trim. He is conscientious about all local code and safety considerations while doing the work. Previously- we needed a major amount of exterior and interior painting in 2004 after we had moved into our current home. At that time he had an extensive amount of preparation/scraping due to poor maintenance by previous owners. Jon Murphy also did power washing of my deck and many other repairs to replace rotted trim at that time. There was very little repair work after 8 years this time as a tribute to the quality of his work. He also had to do extensive painting then inside our house including stripping wall paper, preparing the inside walls, and in some cases up to 3 coats of paint to hide previous very dark colors. On the exact day we moved in- he scheduled that day to paint our bedroom which was dark charcoal and make it a neutral color. This avoided the nightmarish effort of not having our bedroom available right away during the move. In all cases- if you asked for an estimate- the final price was always lower than his 'worst case' price. His crew had to work extensively in our house unsupervised and we were never concerned with any security problems. We have referred him in our neighborhood and he does all of the work for two of our neighbors who are equally as pleased and only use him for all work. John Murphy has also referred us to others for replacement of our deck and our windows which are not things he does. Although he removes wall paper, he did not hesitate to get us a specialist when we hung a special cloth type wall product on our cathedral ceiling family room. His referrals were also extremely honest and competent. He is a pleasure to work with at all times. He is an expert on painting, selecting paint, and proper preparation. I recommend him whole heartily for any painting needs.
