J MACNEIL & SONS ROOFING SLATE SPECIALIST

CALLED HIM ON FRIDAY AND TRIED TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT. HE SAID THAT HE WOULD COME OUT FOR AN ESTIMATE ON SAT. AT 3. I DO NOT HAVE A MOBILE PHONE. HE CALLED MY HOUSE AND LEFT A MESSAGE THAT SAID HE COULD NOT COME. WE SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR MONDAY AND HE CALLED AND SAID HE COULD NOT MAKE IT AGAIN. I DECIDED TO GIVE HIM ONE MORE CHANCE AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR TUESDAY AND HE CAME OUT. I THOUGHT THAT HE WAS NOT VERY PROFESSIONAL WHEN HE FINALLY DID COME OUT. HE WAS VERY KIND, BUT HE DID A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT MADE ME BELIEVE THAT HE MAY NOT BE VERY PROFESSIONAL. HE ASSESSED THE WORK THAT NEEDED TO BE DONE AND HE CALLED ME WITH AN ESTIMATE OVER THE PHONE. I CALLED HIM AND TOLD HIM THAT I HAD DECIDED THAT I WOULD GO WITH A DIFFERENT COMPANY.

I am not happy with this contractor.

I called to get a quote for a sizable roofing job. A very sleepy voice answered the phone. I asked if this was MacNeil and Sons. The voice said ''Yes. But, we're all sleeping.'' And hung up on me! It was 9:00 am on a Tuesday.

This contractor was scheduled to come out to give an estimate for work to be done. He never showed up for his scheduled appt. and did not call to cancel.

I made an appointment for an estimate at 10:00 on a Monday morning, and they never showed and never called. When I made the initial call, I got an extremely rude man on the phone who immediately demanded to know who I was and why I was calling - he told me afterwards he thought I was a telemarketer. OK, but this is still an odd way to greet people for a business that depends on people calling for service, is it not? He put a nice enough guy on the phone who set the appointment for Monday at 10:00. I tried to call that morning just before 9:30 to confirm but reached someone I believe was the same rude guy I talked to originally who was rude again and incoherent (got the impression I had woken him up), couldn't find his father after screaming for him over and over, then told me he'd have him call me. When I tried to give him my number, he cut me off and told me it was on the caller ID. Needless to say, they never called me back. I found this company extremely unprofessional!

I really like that they're a small shop. They came out right away and started work on the job. They didn't try to sell me any additional services more than I needed. They've just been fixing the problem that we have in a really professional way. They're low key and they get the job done. It's a four person company and they don't have salesmen or anything, they're just honest and reliable.

The person I spoke with was very friendly on the phone, and set up an appointment to take a look at the leak the next morning. He did not show up, however, and did not call to reschedule. I was in a hurry to fix the leak, and the delay in having to find another company was very inconvenient.

Jack MacNeil was knowledgeable and provided clear information when he visited for an estimate. I had a hard time following up with him for information later, however. And he did not respond to my requests for additional information and estimates.

These guys seem fairly disorganized. I called and left a message, didn't hear back for two weeks. I spoke to them a few times on the phone, each time they reassured me they'd come out and take a look. One time they even promised me they'd come look at my house the next morning, and call me by lunch time. Never happened. I've stopped calling them. Maybe November is a busy month for roofers - I've called about eight for this little job, and most don't even bother to return phone calls. I know it's a small job, but it'd be nice if they wouldn't waste my time by letting me think I need to call them again, to check. One company did, and I appreciate that.

WE SPOKE ON THE PHONE, AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR A MONDAY MORNING AT 10:00 AM. I TOOK TIME OFF FROM WORK, AND DROVE BACK TO THE HOUSE TO MEET WITH HIM. HE DID NOT SHOW UP, DID NOT CALL OR CANCEL, AND DID NOT RETURN MY PHONE CALLS. A WASTE OF MY TIME AND MONEY. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

IT WAS A SMALL JOB SO IT WAS DIFFICULT TO FIND ANYONE TO DO IT. MACNEIL & SONS DID AN EXCELLENT JOB, EXCEPT THEY WERE A BIT SLOW ABOUT RETURNING CALLS. I ATTRIBUTE THIS TO THE FACT THAT IT IS A VERY SMALL BUSINESS. THEY DID SHOW UP ON TIME AND WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL.

VERY RESPONSIVE: PROVIDED ESTIMATE WITHIN 2 DAYS OF CONTACTING HIM; COMPLETED WORK WITHIN 2 DAYS OF AUTHORIZING HIM TO BEGIN.

RETURNED PHONE CALLS QUICKLY, BUT DID NOT SHOW FOR FIRST APPOINTMENT. WAS PROMPT FOR BOTH SUBSEQUENT APPOINTMENTS AND CREATED ESTIMATE QUICKLY. WORK WAS DONE QUICKLY AND PROFESSIONALLY. CLEANED UP THOROUGHLY.

JACK AND HIS SON JOHN SEEM TO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, BUT THEIR PHONE MANNERS ARE AWFUL, NEVER RETURNING CALLS AND SHOWING UP WHENEVER THEY FEEL LIKE IT. THEY WERE CLEAN AND COURTEOUS WHEN THEY WERE HERE THOUGH, ALWAYS TOOK OFF THEIR BOOTS INSIDE (HAD TO ACCESS THE ATTIC FROM INSIDE FOR SOME OF THE WORK) AND CLEANED UP THE YARD AND LOWER ROOFS. THEY CHEATED ME ON THE SPOT-POINTING, ONLY POINTED WHAT THEY COULD REACH, SO UPPER HALF OF CHIMNEYS DID NOT GET MUCH WORK. I POINTED THIS OUT, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THEY PLAY MUSIC PRETTY LOUDLY OUTSIDE, BUT TURNED IT DOWN WHEN I ASKED. PRICE WAS BETTER THAN MOST, BUT I GUESS YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. I CAN ONLY PRAY THAT THE ROOF WON'T LEAK AGAIN.

HE WAS VERY RESPONSIVE AND CAME OVER MY HOUSE AT THE TIME HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO! I HAD RECTIFIED THE SITUATION BY THEN, SO THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE TO DO AT THE TIME. IN ORDER TO PREVENT ANY FUTURE WATER PROBLEMS, HE SUGGESTED A REPAIR TO MY ROOF AND PROMPTLY SENT ME AN ESTIMATE.

HE HAS DOES OTHER JOBS FOR ME. HE IS GOOD, CAME AND DID THE WORK. HE IS GOOD NATURED FELLOW, VERY NICE MAN.

DID NOT SHOW FOR APPOINTMENT.

VERY RUDE, NEVER CALLED!!

JACK WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL ROOFER, ON TIME, DID A GREAT JOB AND WAS VERY REASONABLE PRICED. WORKERS WERE VERY COURTEOUS AND VERY CLEAN. WHEN THE JOB WAS DONE THEY CLEANED UP EVERYTHING.

JACK MACNEIL WAS GREAT! THE QUALITY SUPER! THEY WERE HERE WHEN THEY SAID THEY'D COME & EVEN FINISHED ON TIME, DESPITE 2 DAYS OF RAIN. THE ROOF LOOKS GREAT & EXCELLENT CLEAN UP!
