They were very punctual and polite when they gave me a call back for an initial inquiry. I was very impressed with their professionalism. We decided not to do the work now though.

"Fair" based on previous experience, we expected more honestly. We previously had a large portion of our interior painted by Arch and it went very well. So when it came time to clean and stain our deck we wanted to go with Arch. Unfortunately, the time it took from initial call to actually nailing down a date for the work took 10+ days. this was after emailing all the details to the Arch folks on the first day of contact and reaching out via multiple email and voicemail (vs. getting calls back). We also were told the deck needed 3-5 days to dry prior to applying stain. The day after they powerwashed the deck, the guys showed back up and stained it. So now we don't feel confident the long term quality is going to be there long term as a result. The Arch staff is professional once you get a hold of them and maybe this was a fluke, but we were disappointed overall for the money spent : $1350. Next time we will go back to bidding the jobs out to others.

I am trying to communicate with them regarding complaints that I have had. I sent them a letter, they called me, I called them back and they haven't called me back so it's been about a month of back and forth with them. I had already complained about the work once to them and they came and they tried to repair, but then more problems arose with the work that they did and I was really dissatisfied with the reason that did not get back to me when I said that there was a problem with the work. I am really frustrated with them to be honest. While they performed the work, they were speedy. They followed my instructions accurately. I did not have an issue with the room that they painted, but had an issue with the other work they did. The walls were fine. It was the wood work that was problematic. The paint began to peel within weeks after being applied. I did take my time and call them and they sent someone out and he said the reason the paint was peeling was because the doors were painted during winter. The reason he gave me cannot be true from my personal experience. He said that the surface would have been very cold. However, none of the surfaces were very cold. It was a heated house. When they came, the surfaces were not cold. I did not have a problem with the outside wall. It was the wood work that I had a problem with. I actually painted them myself and it's been fine so I know that that's not the problem. I am very unhappy because I feel that they did not perform the service properly. The quality of work was variable because some of the work that they did was very good. It's just the interior issues that I've had. They were pretty punctual. I would not use their services in the future.
Description of Work: I have used the services of Arch Painting in the past. They painted a large room, my upstairs hallway, all the doors and the door frames.

Based on our previous excellent experience with ARCH painting the exterior of our home, we didn't ask for multiple quotes instead choosing ARCH as our provider of choice, Adam, the estimator, was excellent, punctual and precise in his estimate. The follow-up call from the ARCH home office was also professional and to the point in setting up the time for the work to begin. On the first day, the crew showed up 10 minutes early to get the paint needed and begin the prep. Jose and his crew were clean, very professional and worked amazingly fast. What was to be a full 2 day job took about 1.5 days. The entire process was painless and we're left with 3 beautifully painted rooms.
Description of Work: 3 interior rooms were painted, the first included the ceiling, trim and walls, the second just the trim and walls, the third was the ceiling and walls. In one case, there were 2 colors painted in one room. Holes, divots and the like were to be patched prior to painting

It went well. Arch provided a full crew the entire time, started the job on time, and finished early even with a few days of rain. The crew worked hard and was adequately supervised by the crew leader. They were able to make some small repairs to the siding as they went along so they had some good related skills needed for exterior painting. The one thing lacking was good communication sometimes. The crew and crew leader were all Brazilian and most could not speak much if any English. We had some miss-communications along the way but they were worked out with some extra effort. They always stayed until I got home from work to let me know what they had done that day and see if I had any questions or requests. They all seemed very nice. Also, they cleaned up their work areas well.
Description of Work: I hired Arch Painting to wash and stain the exterior of our recently purchased home, sand and stain the mahogany deck, and make any small repairs to the cedar wood siding and roof as needed.

They were the 4th painting company from Angie's list I called and asked for an estimate. They came promptly. The assessor was very nice and knowledgeable (as was I by then). While he was there, he gave me an estimate, which I thought was good and appropriate. I called 2 references, which were very positive but not so glowing they felt unrealistic. I then called them back and said I wanted them to do the work. Within a few days they sent me the paper work, which I signed and returned. (They did not want any money until they had completed the job and I approved it.) They came when they said they would. I happened to be away the week they worked, but the crew foreman kept in touch with me by phone. (He had an accent but his command of English was quite sufficient for the job.) When I returned, 5 days later, as promised the house was painted and needed just a few minor touches. I paid them. They cleaned up well after themselves and left. I'm pleased with the job they did and the process and would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: They provided an assessment of the cost of the work of painting the exterior of my house, then when selected painted it.

The experience with Arch was the most professional and positive one I've ever had with people working at my house. The work was scheduled quickly and efficiently from the Arch office, the crew showed up at the hour that worked best for me, and all details of the job were discussed thoroughly with me prior to beginning the work. As the work progressed, I could see that the painters knew what they were doing. They were neat, took care of little extras like replacing shingles and trim on window, and they completed the painting within 3-4 days. I am delighted with the end result. Absolutely no complaints!

The paint job took longer than was estimated. The paint job and blueboarding was very sloppy. The touch-ups that were supposed to take ~2 days took an entire week. If you need to get touch-ups done, contact the headquarters and do not deal with just the lead painter on the job. I was pretty disappointed by the services provided.

They told me the job would take 2 days so that the oil based primer could dry adequately before application of finish coat but they did the work in one day and I felt the prep work (scraping) was not done well enough. They were supposed to come back to rectify the situation but didn't come & instead gave me a $200 rebate. I had used this company before some years ago and thought at thjat time they were professional and competent. I did not feel so this time.

Great experience, very professional and pleasant to work with.
Description of Work: I contacted Arch Painting for a proposal on exterior and interior paint work for a 2 Family house. Adam spent quite a bit of time with me talking through the proposal, explaining the work that needed to be done and the cost breakdown. I was very impressed by how professional he was, and the courteous, patient and articulate way in which he explained this all to me. Their proposal package, credentials and references are very impressive and based on my experience I believe they would deliver a high quality job. The price he quoted was quite reasonable but higher then a few other ones we got. At the end of they day we chose to have the work done by another company, purely based on price. For any future paint work I will certainly contact Arch Painting again.

I recently purchased a home in Salem that is in need of a paint job and contacted Arch Painters for an estimate. They were friendly and the process of setting up the estimate was easy. Adam called the day of the appointment to ask if I would mind him coming a few minutes early, which was not a problem and I appreciated the call. Adam was friendly and very informative. He was obviously experienced in the field and took a great deal of time explaining our options and the pros and cons of each. Both my husband and I felt completely confident in Adam and the information he shared with us. After discussing our options Adam spent some time walking around the property and then presented us with a quote. Having never owned a home before, we weren't sure what to expect in terms of price but the quote was way above anything we anticipated. To paint our Cape, two small sheds and refinish the deck came to $11,600. Adam asked us if we were surprised by the amount but at the time, I figured that I had grossly underestimated the going rate of painting services. About a week later, after several people were similarly shocked at my quote, I had two other quotes for the same exact work (except that Arch Painting said they would need to removed my wooden gutters, clean them, strip them, paint them and then put them back up; whereas both other companies said that removing original wood gutters was not a good idea and would cause more problems in the end so they proposed to clean, strip and paint them while still attached.) The more expensive of the two additional quotes was $5700, almost half what Arch Painters quoted me, and included the same paint and 2 year warranty. I hate to suggest that the company was trying to take advantage of new home owners - maybe they perform work so detailed and exacting that they can't afford to charge any less? In any case, I don't think that paying double for a service with the same warranty, especially in these economic times is justifiable.

During the project, everything went well. Youseff was very nice and communicative. They cleaned up after they were don. My issue is that only 2 years after (in 2008), the trim started to drastically started to peel. Of course when I called them, they immediately informed me that out project was out of warranty. All I can conjecture is that they ran through the prep work on the trim too quickly. All the porch railing that they painted look like crap.
Description of Work: We have a 3 story Victorian. The body is one color and we have 3 accent colors on the trim. Arch spray cleaned the surfaces, did some prep work, and painted.

I am sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with the paint job. I am not sure who it was that you spoke with when you called in about your porch railings in 2008, but I would like to elaborate a little on our warranty. We do offer a 2 year warranty on exterior projects, but there is a clear section of the warranty that states "Exterior exclusions: Warranty excludes railings, stairs, porches, wood gutters, deck flooring, and other high foot traffic areas, or areas where house is exposed to direct rain, constant moisture, temperature changes, and ventilation or drainage problems." Deck or porch railings are excluded due to the fact that they are susceptible to weather conditions such as rain water and snow that sit on top of them and damage the paint. Again, I apologize that you are, at this point, unhappy. Although it has been 4 years now since your project was done, I would be happy to have someone come out to take a look at the condition of the railings, and offer you a discounted rate to repair them. Please feel free to contact my office any time, 781-933-9335. Jennifer Blais Operations Manager Arch Painting, Inc.

The first few times went great. The next few projects did require some follow up but they were very responsive to my issues. Joe made sure everything was done to my satisfaction. I only had issues with one room and they fixed everything. I think the problem was that the crew leader was really good but the other two workers were not as skilled. The crew leader had to come back and fix the others mistakes.

I have owned several houses and contracted with painters and other worker for the past 25 years. This was the absolute worst, least professional, and most abrasive experience that I have ever encountered with a contractor. This contractor has no integrity, no pride of workmanship, nor any concept that the customer comes first. Furthermore, it became evident during the job that there were major breakdowns in communication between the contractor's sales person, office "manager", and job foreman. In fact it became quite clear that the job foreman was lying to the other two people, who were not willing to believe what I was telling them, until finally the salesman came out to inspect our house (a month later) and discovered that the work that the foreman had reported to be complete was not done. Here is a summary of this terrible story: 1) Office manager made an appointment for me to meet salesman at our property. Salesman did not show up. Waited 45 mintues while manager tried to reach saleman. Lost 1 1/2 hours of work time that day to a no show. It later turned out the office manager had never told the saleman about the appointment. 2) Made a new appointment. Saleman was over 1/2 hour late. (now lost another 1/2 hr of work). Went over both houses. Looked at some very large paint peels in areas of paint they had applied two years earlier, on NEW WOOD they had installed. He insisted the peeled paint was due to "moisture" not due to any lack of preparation by their prior painting. 3) Salesman recommended what painting should be done. Estimate and scope was written up and agreed to. Several items that he said would be "minor" were left at a per hour rate. 4) Paint job was rescheduled several times. There was minor work at one house and more major work at the other. When I met the painters at the second house they stated they had already completed the work at the first house. I asked them to come back to the first house to check it over. It turned out they had done almost none of the work, including not dealing with the very large and obvious spots with peeling paint. Angrily, they scraped to bare wood the areas that had peeled and went away (see also note 17). 5) They presented us with a very large estimate for "additional work" they said was necessary. 6) The foreman gave very hostile body language when I turned down the additional work. They soon left, not having done a number of items that were included in the scope and quote. 7) The next day, with a number of items left undone - include one complete side of the house not having been power washed, sophets that had been in the estimate not painted, and bare wood where they had scraped it, I received a bill by email. 8) I called the office asking why I had received a bill, the office manager told me the foreman had reported that the job was complete. She said she would ask him. 9) Next day she told me the job was complete. 10) Weeks went by. Finally the saleman met me at the house. He was shocked at the state of things, and promised to have the work done. (lost another 1 1/2 hour of my work time) 11) More days went by. Nothing happened. I asked for the bare wood to be painted and the rest of the undone work to be removed from the bill. 12) Finally they painted the bare wood. Then they sent me the same, original bill with no adjustment. 13) After four months, they finally gave me a revised bill with $300 taken off of the original $1800 price, for the power washing that was not performed. The office manager express surprise that we weren't happy. 14) I refused to pay the bill, indicating the subpar work and amount of time that I had wasted. 15) They had a lawyer threaten to put a lien on our property. 16) I have paid the bill, but want everyone to know to STEER CLEAR OF ARCH PAINTING THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY INTEGRITY OR PRIDE OF WORKMANSHIP. 17) Also I would like to note that we were extremely explicit with the salesman and the crew about ensuring our three dogs that are in a fenced in yard be kept in the yard. The fence is secured with a double door and we demonstrated how to ensure that the dogs do not escape. After I pointed out to the foreman that they had forgotten to do some of the work, within moments he had let our three dogs out of the fenced in gate !!! (it took 1 hour to reclaim the dogs). The lesson here is that a good contractor (we had in earlier years provided them with a reference) can very quickly go bad when key personnel turn over. You may have been referred to this contractor by someone who used them a few years ago, but their quality and service has extremely rapidly gone down hill. This job was only for $1500. It is beyond me why they didn't just credit us, or offer to fix the problems at no charge. We have more peeling which has developed this fall!!!
Description of Work: We contracted Arch Painting to do partial exerior painting on two properties in Acton, MA. In both cases, this was followon work to more extensive painting we had contracted them to do in the previous three years. Our prior experience with this company had been good. The contracted work included power washing, repairing major blistering and peeling from their prior work (which they insisted must be paid for since it was over one year later), and other cleaning and painting.

I would first like to say that many of your statements are false and/or exaggerated. It does not come as a surprise to me however; because after 9 months of trying to get you to pay your bill, you sent an email to our company stating that you would trash our name wherever you could if we did not drastically reduce the amount. We were late to meet with you for the estimate, and we apologize about that. We usually give our clients a ½ hour window for arrival times to account for traffic, and we try to make it there as close to the appointment time as possible. We did have to re-schedule your project on 2 occasions due to the weather. I had apologized to you regarding this matter, but unfortunately there is nothing we could do with painting outside when it was raining. Also, your dogs did get out. After apologizing profusely over a 35 minute phone conversation regarding this incident, it was brought to my attention that you were actually present at the time this happened. You opened the gates to walk around the property with our painters to inspect the work and by the time you got to the back yard, you noticed your dogs had gotten out. I can hardly say that my painters should take full blame for this when you were standing there with them. After that situation it was clear that you remained disgruntled for the rest of the project. We were asked to price some additional items that were not included in the scope, and we gave the price to you directly. You said that our foreman was over charging you and that the original estimator would have charged less. We had the original estimator look over it for a second opinion and he agreed it to be fair. You’ve stated that we were a great company but have turned over our employees and now we are not. We have not turned over our employees. The foreman that you were working with has been with the company for 12 years and is an experienced professional, and the crew that worked on your house has been here for 6 years. We do pride ourselves in customer satisfaction and quality workmanship. We originally granted you a 10% discount because you said you had a coupon, we never asked you to submit it or for proof that you even had one. We offered to come back to take care of the portion of the work that you believed not to be done (power wash), but when we got a chance in our schedule, you called our estimator and asked that we not go back to finish. After that, we discounted your bill again. You continued to ignore invoices, letters, and phone calls for 9 months until we had no choice but to have an attorney send you a letter. We did not lie about time spent on this project, and I have researched our crew’s gps reports to prove it. We had originally done work to your house in 2006, which was 3 years before you asked for these touch-ups, not 2. We warranty our work for 2 years. This is clearly stated on our estimates. The reason we do this is because certain parts of a home’s exterior could be exposed to extreme weather conditions, which can cause paint to peel, bubble, or blister, regardless of the amount of prep work done before painting. I am sorry that you feel so strongly as to write such things about Arch Painting. I can assure you that we have hundreds of clients that will tell you differently. We are not perfect, we do make mistakes, and when we make mistakes we own them and always offer to try and correct them. We did the best that we could to try and make you happy, and that is all that we could do.

I liked the man that owned it, but I wouldn't have them come inside my home. There was supposed to be a foreman on the job all the time and he wasn't. I don't know if the people he hired were regulars and they didn't speak English. They were very nice, but it was hard to communicate with them particularly if the foreman wasn't there. At the end of the job there was a screen on my porch that was completely sliced through and it was right over where they had repaired some carpentry. They claimed it was that way before and it wasn't. We just let it go, but it didn't give us a warm and fuzzy feeling about them in the end. They did an all right job on the carpentry repairs, but their tools were absolutely antiquated. They didn't have the proper tools to be doing the repairs. We crossed our fingers when we saw them. The price was excellent.
Description of Work: I used Arch Painting to paint the whole house and a shed in the yard. They also did a complete wash of everything and there were some repairs that needed to be done. There were four carpentry repairs. They did two coats of stain and all the trim.

The service quality was excellent. We had scheduling issues, but I don?t think it was in their control because there were weather issues.
Description of Work: We used Arch Painting for exterior painting last summer.

The inside job went quickly. It might have gone too quickly, resulting in numerous spots of splotches on our woodwork. Many of those spots were corrected, but many were not. My wife remains unhappy with the overall quality of the finish work on the inside. I have come to accept it as the result of the five person crew trying to do too much in a short period of time. Is the crew paid on a per-job basis? Interestingly, the outside job was performed at a much higher standard by exactly the same crew. Here, they took their time. The resulting job to the exterior of our home is beautiful and makes us happy. One of the crew members is a true artist. His work was a joy to watch (I was home for much of the work), and he went out of his way to make us happy. Our overall score for this company results from the mixed results of inside versus outside work. If rating only on the outside work, they would get an A. If rating only on the inside work, they would get a C. We still have some issues to resolve inside. To their credit, they respond quickly to phone calls and have fixed a couple of newly-discovered problems inside.
Description of Work: Arch Painting stripped wallpaper, patched walls and ceilings, repaired ceilings, and painted the entire inside of our house. The house had not been painted in the 27 years we have owned the house. They also power-washed, scraped, sanded, primed, and painted/stained the exterior of our shingled house, changing its color from ugly brown to our three-color scheme.

Decided not to use them because they were extremely more expensive than the other contractors we had quotes from. The salesperson was very nice, but he was almost an hour late for our meeting (due to traffic).
