I am a single woman in my 60's and disabled, I live on Social Security Disability, and my income is below the poverty level for a single person. The money I gave him was from a small savings...some of it from having to sell some personal and household belongings. The money he took is a fortune to me. I made many complaints about Baranowski. For those of you who have been cheated by him the most effective thing you can do is to contact the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation... 617-973-8700. You can file a complaint and get a hearing. The board that licenses contractors is under this state office. I filed a complaint, got a hearing and Baranowski did not even show up. He was fined for : (1) For executing a contract that failed to include all the terms required by the Home Improvement Contractor Act ($400.00). (2) For impermissibly demanding a deposit greater than one-third the value of the contract for home improvements ($600.00). (3) For publishing two advertisements that failed to contain the respondents HIC registration number ($100.00). Very importantly, if you successfully sue Baranowski in court and win the suit you can apply for funds from the Guarranty Trust that is administered by this office. You must file within 6 months (last time I checked). You must also show that you have done all you can to collect your money from him. You will be paid by the trust, and they will require Baranowski to pay the money back into the trust if you qualify. They can leverage his license revocation and can have the Attorney General's office investigate him. Also file a complaint with the Attorney General's office. Even if they can't successfully mediate with him there will be a complaint on file. The more complaints the more likely they will investigate him. Google his company and file a complaint with all where he exists. Write a letter to the Building Commissioner. Complain to the paper in which you found his ad. I contacted my police department, and they filed criminal charges against him. His lawyer took his time before finally making a motion to the court that the case belonged in civil court where I am soon to sue him BUT he still had to pay a lawyer. He has in fact now spent more money than he cheated me out of.

He got the deposit and did some work. He didn't finish the job. I keep calling him and he doesn't respond. The last few weeks his phone number doesn't work anymore.

Horrible, still trying to track him down and bring him to court.

It was time for new gutters and the roof (which was very tight, no leaks) was very old looking and was time for an update. My neighbor was having his roof worked on and I noticed that VSR seemed to be timely and of good quality work, so I asked for an estimate. The estimate was competitive enough for us to go with the contractor and a contract was signed. The next day he put a dumpster in my driveway, but work did not begin for over two weeks. The owner would call and tell us that his guys were set to come and work just about everyday after that, but most of the time no one would show. A job that should take no more than four days, was now a month in and still no where near completion. Joe (the owner) continued to try and get final payment before completion of the project (he even was arguing with my wife in front of neighbors) with the intention of never fully completing the job. In fact we later found out this is exactly what he had done to the neighbor who we met him through in the first place. Last but not least, after the job was finally finished, we come to find out that now our roof is leaking, and the new gutters he installed are not sealed properly. His contract states that he provieds a three year warranty, but I have been unable to secure him to come and fix all his mistakes. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS - This company goes by the name VSR Siding and Roofing as well as VSR Construction, with multiple addresses in order to hide from the clients that try to find him after figuring out he is a fraud and provides shoddy work.

Last fall I discovered one of the skylights was leaking. I called 3 contractors, including VSR Siding & Roofing. Joe Baranowski offered the best price if I paid him in cash. I hired him. After the winter, when snow started to melt and rains started to come down, found skylight still leaking and in a big way now. I went up the roof and discovered that VSR simply put some caulk around the skylight, which of course completely came off and simply did nothing to protect from water. Situation became urgent as it was rainy season and leak was progressing. I called them back. Joe Baranowski came and said that he will send someone to fix it. Next day I noticed there was a little of black stuff along one side, which didn't stop anything. Called them back. After almost a week he finally called back and said he will send someone. That never happened. Had to hire another person to fix the problem. In addition, the final water damage to the ceiling was over $2k. After I filed a small claim, Joe Baranowski agreed to return half of the money I paid him in exchange of me asking Angie's List to remove the name of his company from the Penalty Box, which I did.
