It took them two hours as predicted. I keep going back to them because I am too lazy to switch. I have used three oil companies in the last 35 years that I have been here. After a few years, the price rumbles up to the top. You have to keep them honest and switch companies every now and again.

The cost is actually wrapped up with the cost of our oil because we are customer's of theirs. Because we bought our burner through them, some of the maintenance on our burner is provided through them. We do not pay any extra besides that. Their oil prices are a little high then they are elsewhere. They are pretty responsive.
Description of Work: They provide our oil for us and manage the upkeep of the burner.

We have been using them since we got our oil burner.

They came out because the furnace had gone off and I didn't know why. All I had to do was press the button and it started again and they charged me $125 for that. I think that's just a bit much. There was a point last winter where they didn't deliver oil on time yet it had gotten colder and peoples' furnaces run out of oil and that's extremely worrisome. That was just incredible negligence on their part. My impression is that they are on the expensive side. Most of what they do is just deliver oil. Even if it was once in a number of years, it shouldn't happen at all. They are pretty responsive. I am using this service although it's partly inertia. I wouldn't recommend them.

I have used them for several years. It cost nothing because I pay all in one price. Whenever I call they send somebody right out. They are close and local. I feel very comfortable with them. I found them on my own several years ago when the oil company I used went out of business. They transferred my account over to somebody else and they started charging me interest on the payment plan. I called Federal, they let me on the payment plan and do not charge me interest. The price might be a little bit higher than everybody else but I get a lot included with it. I get cleaning and service calls. It is just for heating. I still use them.

Firstly, I have been customer for approximately 15 years. When my contract expires I will leave them. Over the winter I had billing issues with them. I received late charges and was told I didn't pay my bill. I did pay, in full and timely. Customer service was horrible and would not work with me. I had to get Bank of America involved with proof of my payment to finally resolve the issue. After they let my fuel run out on 2/19, I called customer service and was directed to John. He apologized and made a courtesy adjustment to my bill for ongoing troubles with service of deliveries. He also said, I had a credit balance on my account and he told me my new balance due. I paid the balance that day in full. I have since received late notices. In good faith on 4/2/15, I called them to make my account right and explain the conversation I had with John on February 19th. Had the displeasure of dealing with Ellen James, who was rude. I told her my conversation with John on 2/19. She would not listen, instead began yelling at me. She said: somehow you don't understand that human's make mistakes? She explained that John is a salesman and did not know how to read account statements. I requested to speak to a manager and she gave me to John. Matters actually worsened. He was curt to begin with. First saying I misunderstood what he said. He then changed his story and denied saying it to me entirely. Then changed again saying that I knew what he said about my having a credit balance was incorrect and I should have corrected him. I explained the billing issues I had earlier in the year and assumed that the credit came from an overpayment. He was hostile and defensive during this conversation. Again, I have been a customer for 15 years with a 100% payment history. I will of course pay what my balance is; however, between the poor performance, the billing issues, and the hostile treatment I received, this is the END of my relationship with this company. BUYER BEWARE!
Description of Work: After calling them multiple times over a 3 week period, they let my fuel run out. I was told many times the a delivery would come, it never did. Finally on 2/19/15 at 3:00am they arrived with only 10 gallons and needed access to the inside tank. I waited in freezing conditions.

Description of Work: We have used federal hearing for 24 years with good - excellent service and response. The last couple of years has not been the same. Most recently we called 3 times before oil was delivered and we were on empty. We are on an automatic delivery schedule and so should not have to call, but did not think too much of it. They took 5 days to deliver. We will no longer use their service.

We have a contract with Federal to deliver our oil. There have been other times when our tank has been low but they always seemed to make it on time. We noticed the tank was very low and called on Thursday, 2/12. They promised to make a delivery by Saturday, 2/14. Then after numerous calls they promised to come Sunday, even late in the evening if they had to but they never showed up. We finally got through to Townsend Oil who owns Federal. A man saying he was a supervisor promised to show up the next morning by 10:30 with 10 gallons to hold us over until the delivery came. By 11AM the next morning we tried calling again because no one came. Finally at 1:30 the truck showed. This entire scenario is unacceptable and obviously happening to lots of other customers. On Saturday we call other oil delivery companies to see if they would make an emergency delivery. One of them told us we were about the fifth Federal customer that called them over the past 2 weeks to get an emergency delivery. I have also seen the same problem listed on reviews on yelp and other places. It's simply unacceptable and outrageous to leave customers without heat during the worst cold spell we have every experienced in this area. Get someone in management to fix this problem immediately. We had another oil company for 15 years and never had a problem. We are so sorry we switched and we are so worried that this will happen again, only the next time we may end up with an empty tank and frozen pipes.

My 92 year old mother has been a customer for 10 years she is on auto fill discovered yesterday they never came in January so on one of the coldest days of the year she had no oil. Called at 9am after many additional calls the technician (who was very helpful) came at 8pm he restarted the furnace and put 10 gallons of oil in the tank to hold her over until she gets a delivery today. Today after calling for 2 hours to confirm she was getting a delivery I was told she was scheduled I am skeptical. So I will lose a days pay waiting for an oil delivery to make sure she is not in the cold again.

Description of Work: Torn about giving a review for Federal heating. Their technicians are in general very good and knowledgeable. The sales and business people do EVERYTHING to get your business including giving you empty promises and telling you things that are simply NOT true. For instance, we got a new boiler installed by them and they told us it will be quieter than the old one we had (one of our main criteria for the new boiler). The sales told us "absolutely" and went on saying how it will be quieter and more efficient. After it was installed, it was very obviously louder (rendering the adjacent room unusable when the boiler is on). Their technicianS also told us afterwards that the new boiler is known to be loud. This is just one of the at least 5 examples I can cite for Federal Heating trying to get your business by providing false info. The only reason we continue to go with them is because the tune-ups etc for the next few years were included with the new boiler installation. Even with that we are thinking of going with someone else as their fuel price is outrageously expensive.

For the past year, Federal Heating has been our oil, heating and central a/c service provider. They are reliable, friendly, honest and have always responded right away to my phone calls. Their service calls are always professional and prompt. Their prices are very competitive and I would highly recommend them. update - Massachusetts had an exceptionally cold night - we woke up last Saturday morning with no heat along with many other residents. Federal Heating responded in such a timely manner. Our problem winded up being a burst pipe which was eventually taken care of by a plumber. Once we notified Federal of our problem, they dispatched a second technician who shut off part of our two zone heating so we could still have heat and no flooding. We only have great things to say about the team at Federal. It’s nice knowing you can count on a company especially during an emergency situation. A+++ service

When we first called, a service person came right away; he explained what might be causing our problem, but wasn't able to diagnose the problem for certain. A second person came and figured out the boiler was cracked and leaking. Steve was terrific at explaining how the system worked and he showed me where and how much it was leaking. With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, I was worried about how the work schedule would go-they got their sales rep out there the same evening to explain our options and we decided to replace the system. Their sales rep made all the paperwork happen smoothly and we had the system replaced in 2 days. Their sales rep, John, was really mindful of the fact that we both work 9 to 5, and he also figured out we were eligible for 2 rebates and helped us get through very complicated paperwork. John also explained how he was assessing what size new system we should get-their willingness to explain everything rated highly with us. John called us back Thanksgiving weekend to make sure we were OK! And the guys who did the installation were also great-there were no problems, they got in and out in about 6 hours and didn't leave a speck of dirt, and again, explained to me what they were doing. And Steve came back to show me how to do the skimming and didn't leave our house(on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving)until my every question was answered. I can't say enough good things about the folks we've dealt with at their company-they're the kind of people you want to have as neighbors.
Description of Work: We have steam heat and an oil burner. In November, we suddenly were having to add water to the boiler at least once a day. Federal Heating diagnosed our problem, explained to us what was wrong and our alternatives. When we decided to replace the whole system, they ordered and installed the new system within days. They figured out 2 rebates we were eligible for and helped with the paperwork. It was terrific service.

5/30 - Central AC turned on and started leaking water. Technician shows up and claimed pipe between pan and pump to purge water outside was clogged. Blew pipe out by mouth back into air handlinng unit - declared problem fixed - <30 minutes and charged $105 - (I'm not kidding). Ran air conditioner two days later and found water on floor. 6/2 - A different technician showed up and jostled air handling unit and found significant water leaking at bottom. He determined that pan and possibbly coil in air handling unit was leaking. He returned to office to find and order parts. Barry in service (an incredibly rude person) returned my call the following morning at 7:30AM with no useful update. He claimed parts were or are being ordered and he will call me back when parts are available to schedule installation. Can not give me a confirmation that parts are even ordered. I began writing down details after this technician visit. The next 5-7 days produced 95 degree heat. This was not pleasant for my 9 month old son and we moved to the basement during this time where it was 84 degrees and humid. 6/13 - Two different technicians show up at 8:30 AM with the part that was ordered 11 days go. During these 11 days I called Barry in service 4 times to determine when my part would arrive. He was consistenly rude and unhelpful. The two technicans were surprised that anyone else was sent to look at the AC since they do most of the AC work. This is the point at which the incompetence of Federal Heating is apparent. The two technicians, who seemed quite competent, identify the real problem causing my AC to leak and find that the part that was ordered 11 days ago before the wave of 95 degree heat was THE WRONG PART. THEY LEAVE AND ARE BACK IN 1.5 HOURS WITH THE CORRECT PARTS AND HAVE IT FULLY INSTALLED BY 3PM. Had these qualified technicians arrived 2 weeks ago my family would not have had to sit through the 5-7 days of 95 degreee weather.

Every time we called Federal for help, they arrived promptly. My biggest gripe is that they could have killed our family because they left the vent pipe out of our chimney, not paying attention to the fact that we had a gas water heating venting out the same chimney flue. They do not have a lot of knowledge on steam heating systems, but they always arrived quickly when we needed their help.

THE INSTALLERS ARRIVED ON TIME. THEY CONFIRMED THE PIPING CHANGES WITH US BEFORE REMOVING ANYTHING. WHEN THE WORK REQUIRED SHUTTING OFF THE WATER FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, THEY LET US KNOW IN ADVANCE. THEY FINISHED IN ONE DAY, WHICH MINIMIZED THE TIME THAT WE WERE WITHOUT HEAT OR HOT WATER. THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THE INSTALLATION WAS THAT SEVERAL ROOMS HAD BLEED VALVES THAT DIDN'T WORK. WHEN THEY SYSTEM WAS STARTED, NO HEAT WAS GOING TO THOSE ROOMS. FEDERAL SENT OUT SOMEONE THE NEXT DAY TO INSTALL NEW VALVES AND BLEED THE SYSTEM. THEY CHARGED $180 FOR A SERVICE CALL FOR THIS ADDITIONAL WORK.
