Description of Work: Neil has done a wonderful job for us, painting several rooms and ceilings and touching up some defects in the walls. He is very professional and a very neat worker. It is a pleasure doing business with him. We highly recommend him!

Description of Work: I was looking for estimates to have the whole interior of my house painted including walls, ceilings, trim, built-ins, closet interiors, etc. Neil came to give me an estimate for the job along with an associate. They took all room measurements, made notes of potential issues that would need special attention (stains that would need to be blocked), areas that would need extra coats, stair risers and bannisters that would need to be painted (that I hadn't even noticed). Later that same day they gave me an estimate as I was under some time pressure. The estimate was inline with other estimates but I selected the general contractor for the job more out of convenience as they were offering a similar price and would already have crews in the house for renovations to be made. Neil was very responsive with all factors of our interactions: responding to estimate scheduling inquiries, performing the estimate and getting his quote in a very timely manner. He was pleasant to deal with and I feel like I learned important information about the painting process in order to get the best results for my house from both him and his associate.

Description of Work: Mr. Clapp gave me an estimate for painting the interior of my newly purchased condominium. He and his partner are very nice gentlemen. He thoroughly assessed my home for the work that needed to be done, and asked many relevant questions regarding my preferences. He discussed ways that I might be able to save money on the job, and discussed my priorities. He got back to me in a timely manner with a reasonable estimate. I ended up going with another painter, however that decision had to do with my time constraints. I would happily consider using NRC/Clapp in the future.

Description of Work: Only an estimate was provided for the job. We decided to go with another painter due to our budget limitations at the time. However, Neil's price was very competitive and fair. The quote mentioned above was for an unusually large eat-in kitchen, formal living room, and a family room. Walls only. Baseboard cleaning and touch-ups.

Description of Work: I first began my search for a faux painter in 2005. After doing exhaustive scrutiny of our area using recommendations given to me by paint retailers, customers, and friends - and interviewing four different faux painting professionals - I finally hired Neil Clapp to do the job. As a long time homeowner, I have hired a myriad of home improvement companies for jobs from roof repair to a basement addition and everything in between. I have to say that I think my most successful hire, (which also had the potential to be the most fraught with disaster considering the visibility of the project) has got to be Neil Clapp. My initial request was to have faux painting done to the walls of my very large, two story foyer. I knew very little about what I wanted and even less about faux painting. I knew I wanted some shade of the color green and I knew I wanted a dramatic yet understated effect. (Yes, those two things together.) But I possessed a complete lack of understanding as to what this might entail or how I was to achieve it. This fact is perhaps the most important element Neil brought to my project and what sets Neil high above his peers. Neil is not just a painter - he is most definitely an artist. But, unlike most artists, he is able to put together a color palette and look which made my personal vision come to life, not simply suggesting something that would mirror his own particular tastes. With Neil's guidance, I was able to come up with colors and a design for my foyer which is absolutely stunning. To this day, there is not a person who enters my home without marveling at the foyer. A year or so later we had Neil back to create a different and more subtle finish for our family room walls. This is a very large room with a cathedral ceiling. I did not want the drama of the foyer, but I did want the walls to make an impact. The design and colors Neil helped me choose are perfect for the room. Viewing the room from a distance, it merely looks like an attractive colr that is perhaps playing a bit with the lighting of the room. But when you get closer, you realize all the different colors and swirls of the design. It amuses me to see someone walk into my family room and then curiously step forward to touch the wall and peer more closely at the paint. It is really quite lovely. During that time we also hired Neil to put a simple one color coat of paint on our kitchen walls. My husband is a very good painter and takes care of all the other rooms in our home but the kitchen is quite large with different cabinet heights and requires a lot of reaching and physical effort to include the entire wall surface. Neil did a great job there as well so don't feel you need to utilize the artistic side of him. He is a more than capable interior wall painter. Of course, all the other issues which are important to consider when hiring someone to work in your home were not a problem either. Neil and his partner arrived on time every day and took very special care of our rugs and furniture. He is polite, respectful, honest and very professional. I felt from the very beginning when we considered my project and he put together a proposal, to the very end when he was assured of our happiness with the result, that we were dealing with a quality professional. We have since had Neil back to the house twice for touch ups. I live with a husband, 3 boys, and a dog and there will always be something or someone to nick or damage the finish. Regular maintenance and cleaning of handprints and dirt was never an issue. It washes up just fine. But there has been the occasional mishap; the metal end of a belt hitting the wall, a chair carried up the stairs and not quite fitting around the corner, and even some water damage from a roof leak. For very short money, we had Neil return and he was able to make the damage disappear and the walls look exactly as if they had never been damaged. I don't know how he does it but it is very impressive. While it may seem that faux painting methods are simple enough for a homeowner to create on his or her own, I highly recommend you hire a professional. I've been in the homes of many friends (some of whom are quite talented when it comes to do-it-yourself projects), who have attempted to replicate these results on their own. The different results achieved between a do it yourself faux painting project and that of a professional is discernible from the minute you walk into the room.
