The electrician came out and was very thorough. He gave us a list of updates that they wanted to do and the total bill came to $11,000 worth of suggestions. I had another electrician come and and go over the suggestions (another AL company) and he was able to do what he thought were the necessary updates for $700.00. My electrician was impressed with the thoroughness of the original inspection, however. It has been my experience with general home update work that price can vary greatly.

I purchased a Big Deal from Angie's List to have JP O'Brien Electrical do an electrical inspection of our two-family house. Based on the findings, we scheduled an appointment to add some ground wires and GFCI outlets in our basement, and correct double-tapping in one of our electric panels. Joe O'Brien is personable, explains all his work, and responds quickly to emails and calls. The charges were exactly as he quoted, and he and his partner were fast workers.

Excellent. He arrived on time, he did quick, clean work and answered all of my questions.

Joe responded promptly when I called to schedule the visit. He called before he came as he was running early, and wanted to know if it was okay to arrive early. He was polite, knowledgeable and thorough. He walked through the house top to bottom with me, checked outlets, fuse boxes, fixtures, alarms and detectors, mysterious electrical-looking boxes I inherited from the previous owner, etc. He explained the recommendations he was making thoroughly, explaining any abbreviations or acronyms I wasn't familiar with, and linking to code requirements where it applied. (who knew incandescent ceiling exposed light bulbs in overflowing clothing closets was not recommended?) He explained that he would email me a summary of his audit and list any recommendations he had made to me. I asked him to signal high- and low-priority items in case I didn't want to do the work all at once, which he said he would do. I look forward to receiving his estimate and hope we can do business. I will file another report if we do.

I contacted JP O'Brien Electric after seeing his Big Deal electrical special on Angie?s List. Joe returned my call that same day and scheduled an inspection. We found Joe to be courteous and meticulous. He went from room to room explaining what he was doing and why. The inspection was supposed to last one hour. However, Joe spent almost two hours with us. We explained to Joe, the intercom problems throughout the building that we were having - from crossed connections to no connections at all. Several electricians had told the Trustee that they would have to open the walls up in order to fix the problem. Joe took the time to go to each unit in the building to check out the intercoms, as well as the basement to check the universal amplifier - mind you, that the Big Deal was only for our unit. He told us what he thought was the problem, and although he didn?t rule out the possibility that we might have to go into the walls, that was his last option, and not the first as it had been with the other electricians. Joe gave us a quote for the job and we scheduled an appointment for the following Saturday. Joe returned with Rob promptly at the appointed time and went right to work. While it took a little time for them to trouble shoot the problem, they were able to determine that not only was the amplifier not working, but that the wires were crossed during the building?s renovation. Within an hour of diagnosing the problem, Joe and Rob were finished with all four units, and without opening up any walls. Without question, I would use JP O?Brien Electric for any future electrical work.

They were fine. I liked them. They were able to fix the two outlets. They were fairly quick. They were friendly, knowledgeable folks.

This is the second report I have submitted for Joe and Dave. They worked in my company's office a few months ago. They were great, and I just used them for work in my condo. I started with emails to Joe, and we scheduled a time for today. Joe is very pleasant and professional, and sent me a quote before the work was scheduled. Joe and Dave arrived, laid out tarps, completed the work quickly, cleaned and swept, and then charged me less than the original quote since it took less time than he thought. Who does that!? Do yourself a favor. Just hire them. You can't go wrong.

I called on Thursday afternoon and JP O'Brien came by on Friday, told us we didn't need to do anything to ground our second bathroom outlet, as the first bathroom outlet grounded both (saving us unnecessary work) and then wired our new dishwasher. They were efficient, friendly and capable. We'll definitely use them again!

We discovered that old knob and tubes were still feeding some rooms of our house. In the process of getting estimates we experienced a wide range of attitudes and prices. Some electricians did not send their estimate, others did not propose free estimates but did not mention it on the phone when taking the appointment. Some were very expensive. At his first visit, Joe performed a thorough (and free!) inspection of our electrical system. He clearly explained what needed to be replaced and how he would proceed. His estimate was very fair, about half of what his most expensive colleagues asked for the same listed work. Joe came on time and worked very efficiently, as cleanly as he could (even though our old horse plaster walls easily turn into dust). His time frame to completion was accurate. He was very pleasant, polite, quiet and overall we were extremely pleased with the experience and would recommend JP Electrical anytime.
