Description of Work: JP was running a little late . But he called to let me know when approximately he was going to get here. He apologized for being late. It seems that he had some difficulty finding my place. JP gave me a Residential Electrical Assessment handout. He proceeded with the electrical panel inspection. He checked the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, GFI outlets, close lights , etc...While conducting the inspection, he power down the electrical system on a few occasions. He found minor issues with the system. He explained to me what he was doing and answered all my questions. When he finished the inspection, he summaried all the minor findings. I asked him to check one of the motion lights on the left hand side of the house. The motion light sensor was not working properly. I asked him to proceed by fixing all the findings that he identified along with the motion light sensor that needed to be replaced. Here were the findings ; five wires on the Electrical panel were connected to the same place instead of being by itself ($40), a light was needed under the basement stairs instead of having an electrical cord running under the stairs($125), the Washer and Dryer needed a GFI outlet instead of a regular outlet($75) and the motion light sensor needed to be replaced($75). He went out to get what he needed in order to proceed with the job. This was a very nice gesture on his part. If not, I would have to take another day off to have these things taken care of.

+ -1 moreCalled Joe (O'Brien) around noon to see if he'd be willing to sign off on a form required for the Mass Save energy credit program that certifies that any residual knob & tube wiring in my 100 year old house is inactive. He asked if he could come by around 5pm the same day, which was fine. He was right on time, and got right to work checking the house (primarily attic & basement). He located a few pieces of old knob & tube that were cut but hadn't been fully removed, checked them, and verified that none of the active wiring transitioned over to K&T inside the walls. By 5:30 he was satisfied that everything was OK, and signed off on the necessary paperwork. He was friendly, punctual, and efficient.
Description of Work: Inspected house to confirm absence of active knob & tube wiring.

They respond pretty quickly, they're professional and very friendly, and they show up and do a quality job. They gave our condo building a very helpful initial visit and estimate no charge and then, once hired, returned a few times to tackle a half-dozen different jobs we needed. I would hire them again and recommend to others without hesitation.

+ 0 moreJoe was very professional and helpful when I called. We set up a day to have the work done. I picked up the new motion sensor light and ceiling light fixture. Joe supplied the proper plug outlets and wiring. He and his partner (Dave) were very professional and did an excellent job. I figured they'd be there for most of the day, but they were done within two and a half hours, and it was a bit of work. Cleaned up after the work was done. Did a great job! Because of a grounding issue he found when installing the sensor light, I'm having him come back to ground the two outside outlets within a couple weeks. In the Spring, I'll be calling him back to install a second ground bar in the electrical sub-panel (it only has one now - looks like a birds nest in there), a new range hood over the stove and a new chandelier in the diningroom.
Description of Work: I had a basement light switch that was shorting out, needed some work on a couple plug outlets, replaced a ceiling light, replaced a bathroom outlet and installed a dedicated line for it, and replace a motion sensor porch light.

+ 0 moreThe experience was great! Joe showed up exactly when he said he would and overdelivered on both the cable installation and the eletrical repairs. He had to work with to an unexpected beam between the 1st and 2nd floors, and he did so with minimal impact on the interior. He also moved a phone line to the wiring closet at no charge. On the electrical side, he was able to make a lamp in our front yard work--other electricians have tried and failed over the years, suggesting we were going to have to dig up the wiring from the house to the lamp--but Joe had it working in well under an hour. All that, and his price was very reasonable, too. I'm a fan.
Description of Work: Installing network cable from wiring closet to jacks in 5 rooms, and some minor electrical repairs.

On the day of the service provided, he was caught up at another job (he was held up waiting for the inspector at another home who was late) and called me about 3 times to give me updates of when he would be arriving and was very apologetic. I really appreciated that he seem so concerned that he was running late; it made me feel like he valued my time. He got right to work and finished the job within a reasonable time frame. He also explained to myself and my husband of the need to upgrade our electrical panel as we have an older home that only runs on 60 amps. He didn't put any pressure on us whatsoever to have the work done by him. It was moreso that he was trying to let us know that we were maxed out and that if we wanted to add on anything else to our home, it could become a safety issue. Joe cleaned up after himself and charged a very reasonable rate. I will absolutely use JP Obrien Electric in the future. Thanks, Joe!

They were totally fine working around my many baby gates and two toddlers, and they completed the work in a day. Joe even called me up to show me a defect in one of the fixtures before he proceeded with the work. The final cost was right in-line with the estimate and they cleaned up nicely afterwards.

After pulling out the dishwasher we noticed some frayed wires that had shorted out. Joe rewired the dishwasher and disposal into a metal junction box and everything works great. He was professional and pleasant to deal with.

He toured the interior and exterior premises and then we discussed the work that was needed to bring things up to code.Also he gave me the options and costs for installing a heat lamp in the bathroom. (I decided to forego that). I received a written estimate and a work date was set up. He again arrived on time with his coworker and did the work as descibed above. I was very happy with all aspects of his work and also especially pleased with a favor he and his coworker did for me.They moved a large bureau down 2 flights of stairs, down a long driveway and out to my curb for collecton. Even though it was not part of their job and I offered to pay, they declined. I appreciated them accomdating me and also their workmanship. .

He arrived when he said he would, he took the amount of time he said he'd need, and he was great about trying to accomodate our schedule. I think the job required more time than he had originally budgeted for, but he stuck with his quote and completed the work in one day just like he said he would. He did such a good job we asked him to do some additional work in our kitchen and we will use again him the next time we need electrical work.
Description of Work: Joe connected our condo association's unattached garage with electricity from the building, then installed hanging lights in each bay along with electrical outlets. He had to dig & bury the electrical line per our request to keep the line out of sight.
