JP O'Brien Electric LLP

I contacted JP Obrien Electricals to perform a whole house electrical Inspection. I got a response fairly quickly, and scheduled the inspection for a day in the following week. They showed up on time, were professional. First they covered pretty much every outlet inside the house and then outside. They made notes as they went along, it was mostly in a pretty good shape and there weren't any glaring issues. He did show me any problems that he saw and his recommendation. The whole thing took about 45 mins to 1 hour. They even looked in the attic, and felt comfortable answering any questions we had. As promised they sent us a report with all details for the minor corrections and the quote on those. I felt the quote was a bit on the higher side for most things, but as I check online and hear from other people, it looks like its just that I have had a false expectation on the rates. Their rates for the things quoted pretty much are fair market rates. They seem to be genuine and treat their customers fairly. I would recommend them to my neighbors especially was they are really close by. I do not think I would look any further than JP Obrien for any future electrical work that I need.

The visit was relatively routine. The inspection was thorough and the electrician was polite, professional and detailed in his explanations. He was more than willing to answer any and all questions and was finished in no time at all considering he was inspecting 3 levels of wiring. His inspection uncovered some deficiencies and he is preparing a summary with pricing estimates to make all the recommended repairs plus some additional work. We were so impressed with his knowledge, professionalism and timeliness that unless his estimate comes in outrageously high [which is not likely] we will use him to perform both the repairs, the additional electrical work and any future work on my home.

The gentleman was polite, did an adequate job, and I had no issues with his work. Ultimately, it was a routine experience with nothing outstanding.

Joe is very personable and very responsive. Excellent customer service. He is efficient and trustworthy, and overall just a really nice young guy who is building a very respectable business. Not only did he do the work when and how promised, he also came back when I called (months later) at no charge to check on the bathroom exhaust fan and swapped it out for another one to make sure it was working properly. (We determined that the weaker than I'd like suction problem is due to the poorly installed duct in the attic, not the electrical/fan). I recommend him to anyone and everyone and consider him "my electrician" without hesitation!

I had called JP O'Brien electric for a quote on all of the work we needed done, and they totally worked around my schedule, and they showed up promptly. They were the fourth company I had called, the first 3 (referrals) having no-showed, so I was immediately pleased. Dave came out on a Friday to assess the work needed, and I had a quote by Monday, broken down to each individual task that needed to be done... extremely clear. The following Friday, all of the work was completed by both Dave and Steve. Both were extremely professional, courteous, and just incredibly respectful. I was working from home that day and they made what seemed to me a conscious effort to be quiet about it, and I very much appreciated that. They were done faster than I expected, and when they left, my kitchen was a million times cleaner than when they had arrived, and everything functioned as I'd hoped. They really went the extra mile to make sure I was happy, and it worked. I'll definitely be calling them again for the other work I'll need done.

Was very professional and helpful in describing the work being done and offering suggestions on better placement of outlets and lighting. They did a great job.

Everything went great. The post is about 80 feet from the house and they ran the wire, and tied everything into the breaker box, hooked up the switch and installed the fixture. Joe also took time to explain the Arc Fault Breakers that we have installed in the breaker box. Joe was flexible and able to fit the job into our schedule. All in all we're very happy... As a bonus, the lamp post looks great!

Arrived on time, completed job and updated us at end of visit. Received report with estimates for work needing done within a few days.

He was very good and very punctual.

They arrived promptly and were very courteous and thorough. They checked the panel and all the outlets. They also very kindly replaced one of the GFI outlets on my kitchen counter which was "dead." We talked about the reverse-wired outlets, the lack of GFI outlets throughout the house, the non-functioning fan unit in my half-bath light/fan, removal of the non-functioning doorbell chime units (which were replaced some time ago by my current system), etc. On May 16 they provided me with a detailed estimate for $2900 for the work they thought was necessary. I thought the estimate seemed high and was a little disconcerted that most of the items were listed as "approximate cost for labor." My house is about 150 years old, so I appreciate the fact that tracking the wiring through my ceilings to correct these issues might be tricky. Nevertheless, I am concerned that the repairs could ultimately be cost-prohibitive even though they should be done. I sent them a follow-up email expressing some of my concerns, told them that I needed to get a second opinion and that I would get back to them one way or the other. I did have another electrician (with a high rating on Angie's List) come 7 weeks later for a free estimate but have not yet heard from him -- very disappointing; see my review of Nicholas Tomaszczuk.

It was excellent. They were every professional.

Everything went great from the first call all the way up to the actual service. The service was actually scheduled for a Friday but was able to be done on a Tuesday. This was a pleasant surprise and the work itself was done in under 2 hours.

Joe arrived right on time and got right to work checking all the electrical outlets, etc. inside and out. Pointed out things to me along the way. At the end of his inspection, he sat and went over every item he found in detail. He provided a written, itemized estimate for each recommended repair within two weeks of the inspection. We plan on using his services for the repairs in the near future.

Everything went fine. Nice neat, clean installation for the Angie's List Big Deal price of $149. I liked them well enough to ask them to install a couple of additional wall outlets while they were there, which they did for a very reasonable additional fee. I don't know if the surge protector works or not, because (thankfully) I have not had a lightning strike or similar event that would cause it to trigger, but I feel good knowing that (theoretically, anyway) my house and electronics are protected if such an event should occur.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They never called me back. I left two messages and they never called me back.

It was as good as can be. After a bit of telephone-tag, we connected and Joe found he could be here within a day. There were two of them, they arrived when they said and went right to work. They diagnosed and repaired the problems, and the showed my husband what they had done. They were in and out in less than an hour. It was a pleasure, and I'm now delighted to know I won't ever need to call anyone else.

I need to verify the dates. I used my standard pick-a-date which is not the valid date. I have had them out twice. My major reason for having an electrician come in was because the wiring to my front outside light was faulty. The light had stopped working and when it was removed there was burned out siding behind it. Scarey! The wiring was replaced to the outside light. A faulty circuit was identified and replaced for the outside outlet not working. Several inside outlets were updated. They found a live wire just hanging in the basement. They removed it. I will have them out again this summer 2013 to replace the 2nd flr wiring and add additional outlets. This house was built in the early 50s and the 3 bedrooms have 2 outlets each. Thehouse needs to be wired for the future. JP O'Brien and his assistant explained everything they found and replaced. The cost was acceptable. They were very easy to work with.

I thought it was a little unusual that the $99.00 to only look at the electric outlets. In our case, one of the electrical outlets stopped working. When they first came out they said that was not part of the advertised price but they did do it, so we were lucky. Their price was real reasonable.

They fixed a plug that was inoperable, and did the work well. They were very polite, and informative.

I bought an Angie's List ":Big Deal" for a whole house electrical inspection. The electrician was able to schedule the inspection for a convenient time. He walked through the house with me and provided a list of things that should be corrected.

See above. I probably did not undersrtand the scope of what they would/could do sufficiently - what they did was an assessment and inspection. I am not sure if that is a good price for that service or not. They seemed efficient and knowledgeable and spent several hours on site.

The inspection itself was worth the money. I knew I had problems but just wasn't sure the extent of them. Did a great job finding all of the issues and providing a timely estimate of cost and days it would take. Showed up on time each day and did a great job. I was more than pleased with the service and the quality of work. Have hired this company to do more work beyond the original scope of the job. They fixed problems that were left behind by a different local electrician. I was a very satisfied and happy with the work.

Great. Joe was extremely thorough and helpful going through specific areas that needed attention and also making recommendations on potential issues.

They came on time and worked for a day plus a little extra on a second day as estimated. They were very tidy, professional, and accomodating, and were willing to tackle a couple of minor electrical issues around the house on the spot in addition to the big one they were there to do -- and threw those in for free. They were on the lower end of the estimates we got, so were well-priced already, and in the end, they came in well under their original estimate because they were able to free up space on our electrical panel which meant we didn't need a new subpanel. We would highly recommend Joseph and his team and plan to use them for future electrical work.
