Joe returned my call within a few hours. We set up an appointment immediately. He was punctual, reliable, honest, and professional. His work on the recessed lights was beautiful! We will absolutely call J.P. O'Brien in the future for all of our electrical needs.

The experience was fine, he did what he said he was going to do. I have upgraded a lot of the things that he recommended. I expected him to do some work, and he did what the big deal said, and he did an analysis of the work, and the told me the cost of fixing it. I didn't have him fix any of it, I had a friend do some of it, and I had an electrician last week to do the additional. He was accurate and other people have verified what he said. I think I misunderstood the deal and I thought he was going to do some work. I was disappointed, but it was my fault for not reading the deal.

They did the work in three stages. The first was to upgrade the service and rough in all of the circuits followed by the first inspection. The second was to install fixtures into most areas prior to the installation of cabinets and appliances by another party. They thoroughly checked out all of their work before completing this stage. The third stage was installation of some final outlets, which was done several weeks after the second stage was completed due to the schedule for completion of the drywall work in that corner of the kitchen. This was followed by the final inspection. They were very responsive and conscious of the schedule, which involved two other contractors. They did a great job and contributed to the timely completion of a very nice kitchen project.

I was very pleased with the service, He was a pleasure to work with and he kept to the estimate even though their were some unexpected small things that came up. He was very nice and professional.

I ended up getting a refund from them because of scheduling issues. However, I had no trouble getting the refund, and they were good to deal with.

Friendly, professional service. I haven't had much electrical work done in my house, so I don't have any other experience to compare it to, but I was happy with the results.

We had outside lanterns that were shorted out. These guys helped by getting the outside lanterns on again, however did not figure out how to turn them off.

I was checking my circuit breaker box to diagnosis a short when I found some issues when I turned circuits back on. I lost power to some ceiling lights and outlets. I also discovered that we had two circuit breakers running the same circuit if lights and outlets. I called on sat morning. They came on Monday. Fixed both problems. Replaced a faulty breaker and removed a breaker that was wired wrong Also looked at a problem in my basement where an old nail from the first floor was shot through a romex line. They removed the nail and inspected it for damage. Will call again for more work. Great service.

Excellent service! On Christmas Eve at about 5pm I left a message for Joe requesting an appointment for the day after Christmas. He called me back in about an hour. Yes, he called me back on Christmas Eve! When Joe learned that I did not have the use of my stove, oven, and other appliances for the holiday, he offered to come to my house on Christmas morning. I was very impressed! Luckily, I was not preparing a big dinner so I made an appointment for the day after Christmas. Joe arrived on time and quickly fixed my problem (which was not major). He readily accepted my $50 coupon, and gave me an estimate for some other work I have been wanting done. I already have another appointment for him to come back. Joe was responsive and did a nice job. I negotiated an exterior light installation as part of the work and was very satisfied. Will use him again in the future.

They discovered my main electrical box was never grounded

We got off on a somewhat difficult start as I called them in Sept. 2013 and explained the work I wanted done. The person I spoke too asked me to send my "list" via email. I waited for a month and when I did not hear back I sent another email asking if they were able to do the work I needed. I got a call back within a day saying they were sorry but sometimes the lose track of emails and would come by that same day to look at what I wanted done. I was happy with that response. He looked at the work, and drew up an estimate. However, It took weeks before I heard back and than weeks more before the work was available to do the work. They sent two men (different from the one man who came and estimated the work load and cost). They came as scheduled and worked non stop until the "list" of things were accomplished. They actually came the day before to do the outdoor work because of predicted bad weather and returned the next day to complete the work we had prearranged. They were professional and very nice and did a good job cleaning up after themselves. They were helpful in problem solving around the location of one of the outlets. I would hire them again and they said they could come back as many times as needed without incurring any additional costs for travel etc. to do the additional work which I decided to put off. Good people, good work, just a little hard to get.

I wanted to make sure that the electrical upgrades done over the years to my condominium were up to snuff. I was assured that any issues were minor. A quote was provided to have the work done and I thought it was reasonable.

JP O'Brien did a stellar job under quite complicated circumstances. The job had some surprises that were not the fault of the electricians, such as the discovery of live gas lines in the walls and ceilings (left over from when the house was lit by gas). This happened more than once, and each time it required a change to the day's schedule so that I could get a plumber to come and cap off /remove the gas lines so the electricians could finish installing a fixture. There were other, smaller surprises -- an unexpected outlet in the bottom of a closet or shoulder high behind some coats, for example, and I changed my mind about a hall fixture which they swapped out at no extra cost. With every surprise and change (I also decided I wanted to add a few outlets, fixtures, and hard-wired smoke detectors to the work plan) JP O'Brien worked with me to make the schedule work and to provide me with updated cost estimates as needed. Both my apartment and my tenants' apartment were very full, and the electricians had to work around a great deal of stuff (some of which I had inherited from my mother a few months earlier, and much of this was in boxes). Their willingness to work this way, and their graceful acceptance of the reality of it, turned out to be surprisingly important -- I had received estimates from electricians who said that they would require the house to be empty (which was not an option) and from electricians who seemed very reluctant to work in crowded rooms, or who seemed cross about it. JP O'Brien took the crowded nature of the place in stride, non-judgmentally and gracefully, and all the electricians who worked on this job were careful and smart about moving things carefully out of their way. They were also careful to make sure that my life (and that of my tenants) was not disrupted more than necessary. For example, when working in the kitchen they ran an extension cord to the refrigerator so that food would not spoil, and made sure that we had light available every evening. I work from a home office, and they made sure that my computer and my office was up and running when I needed it and warned me far ahead when they'd need to work on the electricity in that room. My tenants sometimes work nights, and JP O'Brien was good about accommodating their work schedule around the tenants where possible, always checking to make sure that the next day's plan would be okay. There were pets in both apartments, and I never had to be worried that they would inadvertently leave a door open, or leave for the day with something left out that would be harmful to the animals. I'm sure they would be entirely reliable leaving a place safe for children after a day's work as well. They were imaginative and made useful suggestions, some of which were terrific and I had not thought of -- such as installing a switch at the top of the stairs to the basement rather than where it was originally, which you had to go down several steps in the dark to reach. They put a light in front of the new circuit panels. They removed the old ceramic knobs in the basement along with the old wires, as it made it look neater. The work required making holes in ceilings and walls, and although they do not patch the holes (they did recommend someone else, but I could have had anyone do this) they did make sure that the holes they left at the end of the day were not a worry for cats who might get curious, and they made sure the cats could not poke their paws into dangerous places (putting up temporary covers or putting something against the wall). They cleaned up each day after work, sweeping up the debris and vacuuming with a Hepa vacuum. They had all the trash removed at the end of the job. They were a pleasure to have in the house, even though it took so long -- several weeks. I would (and have) recommended them to anyone who needs an electrician. And I am thrilled to have found them!

Provider spent a while looking into our reported problem with circuit but could not duplicate/find the problem. We agreed that we'd call them again if problem resurfaced. Provider did not charge us for his visit, which was nice. They were on time, very professional, and am planning to follow up with them now that the problem has re-surfaced.

We spoke on the phone and confirmed via email a day and "morning" for JP Obrien to come give an estimate (he said he had another job first thing, and would come over right after). I loved that he will communicate via email. I did not love that I waited around all day and never heard from him. He emailed that night to reschedule, but we had moved on to other providers.

It was outstanding. It was a super job. They did quite well and beyond of what was expected of them.

I ordered the actual work 6 months after Joe gave me the quote. Joe was easy to work with and answered all questions. The work was done quickly and professionally including a few last minute requests on my part. Joe and crew are trustworthy and reliable, they had full access to my home for 4 days doing their work while I was away and I had no worry at all. The inspection with the city was delayed due to summer vacations etc, and took a few follow up calls to Joe. However, he arranged to meet with the inspector at my home so I wouldn't need to leave work and I appreciated that. The trash from this job was put into the boxes that my ceiling fans came in, which I thought could have been done better. I might have needed to use the boxes to return the fans if I didn't like them or if they weren't working properly. I think contractors should bring their own trash bags and fill them so that everything is neat and tidy at the end of the job. I understand that the homeowner would need to actually dispose of the trash, but the homeowner should not need to bag it. I wish this and other contractors would spend a little time sorting out things that could be recycled from regular trash. There is a lot of aluminum and copper etc. in electrical materials that can be recycled.

The electrician showed up exactly on time. We are in the process of buying this house, and the current owner is almost a borderline hoarder he has so much stuff, but the electrician was very professional and did his best to inspect as much of the house's electrical work as possible. He found many serious issues that had also been seconded by our original home inspector, and the price they quoted us to do the work seems pretty reasonable. Would use them again in the future.

JP was prompt, friendly, and professional. He completed the inspection quickly and provided a written report by email within a couple of days. I would definitely use him again.
