This isn't the first time I have used John. Both times he has come right out to check on the work I needed . He is dependable, responsive, quality workmanship in getting the project completed in a timely manner. I would not hesitate to recommend John White Construction to my family and friends.
Description of Work: They did a great job roofing my home. Johns crew were professional, courteous. I appreciated the clean up that was done at the end of the day.

We were originally excited with the reviews and photos that we found online, but this quickly turned into a project that left us looking for new contractors. The relationship started off on a positive note but quickly deteriorated after we questioned the build out of the porch roof and framework for the stairs that did not match the initial agreement. I had questions on when he would be able to finish the work defined in the original scope because we were approaching the timeline for the material delivery with inclement weather in the forecast. After reconfirming the preferred material multiple times and following up to make sure the order was placed, we had to ask if enough material was ordered when we noticed the inventory that was delivered looked lighter than what would be required to complete the work. I was gaslit and told I was micromanaging when asking for follow up and accountability. After pushing for follow through, he sent his team to collect their tools and walked off the job on a holiday. He left unfinished work and low and behold, there was not enough material for us to have another contractor follow through. While he will likely deny the review, we are writing to warn others before you experience the same outcome. Update as of 7.5.23: We had another contract come look at the work he had completed and this is a short list of what we were told would need to be fixed: - Stairs were not built correctly, so they will need to come down and be redone by the new contractor. The risers and kickboards that were left on the stairs are dented and will need to be replaced. - Vinyl siding needs to be tightened as it blows in the wind at the bottom and at the top next the second floor porch. Installed the incorrect piece for the bottom of the vinyl siding on both porches and the bottom of the house. - Not enough screws in the decking, which would not pass final inspection. - The screws used were too long and would puncture the roof causing leaking down the road. - The posts were too short and would not pass inspection as this is not up to code for a two family. - Did not block the doors leaving the decks unsafe to both the homeowners and tenants, which was requested by the building inspector. - Missing material: 8 panels of decking, 1 porch railing, 1 stair railing, 6 post skirts, no azek to finish off the trim, missing vinyl siding where a hole was left (but he said "all the material is there, and $1000 would cover anything else, so we could call it even.") I will update this again when we get the quote from the new contractor, but as you can tell, this was not the outcome we had hoped for when we signed a contract with John.

My roof was leaking due to exposure near the stack pipe and more rain was in the forecast so I needed the job done fast. Enter John White of J. White Contracting. I reached out to 5 other well rated roofing contractors on Angie's List, John was the only one who called me back. He answered his own phone, came out same day, quoted the job and actually did the work the very next day. Granted, timing really came into play here, but I'm pleased with everything about this transaction and will definitely call John first the next time I need some work done.

Working with John was a pleasure - job was completed in two days and his crew made sure the yard was free of any nails and debris during their cleanup of the job. I would absolutely recommend him and plan on using him in the future for gutters and siding, once my budget allows! I had 3 contractors come out to provide quotes, John's came in just about equal with one other.
Description of Work: Strip roof of previous asphalt shingles, applied ice shield to the entire roof and re-shingle with architectural asphalt shingles for my 1600 sq. foot Cape with shed dormers.

After getting 2 other quotes that were exorbitant and unrealistic (per my other contractors and personal advisors) to have my chimney flashed with lead, I decided to call John. John had re-lead flashed my aunt's chimneys and skylights and had done an excellent job (at a reasonable price) so I figured he was worth contacting. Scheduling a time for him to come out to see my chimney was very easy. He came out to meet with me, told me what the process would be like, and provided me with a formal written quote. The figure he presented was completely reasonable and in line with what my advisors had told me to expect. Based on the quote, my aunt's experience, and John's great communication and quickness to schedule a visit, I immediately signed up to have him do my chimney the following week. John White and his guys came in the morning (at the time they said they would) and worked for a good 4 hours up on my roof to flash my chimney with lead. They did a great job cleaning up after themselves and my chimney looks SO MUCH BETTER. I am now considering redoing my roof and this time John White will be the first contractor I call for a quote (and hopefully the last as well).
