Found a flood in basement on a snowy Sat. morning. Called Joe, who had installed our gas boiler a few years earlier, and a repairman arrived within an hour. After Joe arrived, they brought in a Whirlpool 40 gal. tank (6-yr warranty), installed it and removed the old tank. All done and back in business within 2 hours (except the mop-up).

They showed up on the appointed day and did a very clean (layout) installation. The next day when we discovered one of the thermostats was not working, they appeared within 30 minutes to make the fix. We are now enjoying an approximately 30% reduction in gas consumption. We have subsequently engaged the team for recommended routine maintenance ($125).

They were a little expensive. The quote process was basic. They came out and gave me an estimate. They were responsive. I will not use them again in the future.

In the past I haven't had much luck with plumbers, pipe fitters or heating contractors (nor have many other Angie's List subscribers from what I can see). Joe Phipps was referred to us by another 5A Angie's List contractor. He arrived for a same day estimate and after hearing my criteria recommended a 97% efficient, sealed combustion, modulating flame Buderus boiler. He scheduled the work, arrived on time with his electrician and worked extremely quietly - no radio or loud conversation (I work at home). They finished in 1 1/2 days, doing a clean and neat install (see picture) and removed the old boiler and debris. A couple of days later, when one of the heating zones wasn't working, I called and they both arrived within 25 minutes to solve the problem: they installed an electronic thermostat compatible with the new boiler.
