We were starting from scratch after a large addition was put on the house. First and foremost, we needed a driveway. Because we are in an environmentally sensitive area we opted to use pavers for drainage rather than asphalt. We also needed steps and walkways down from the street. We called Environmental Contracting and our call was promptly returned. Charlie came over to see the lot and get an idea of the work involved. He listened carefully to our ideas and offered some wonderful suggestions. The work started very soon after our first meeting and continued non-stop until the last detail was taken care of. They arrived promptly every morning and worked like mad all day long despite the blazing heat. Among the too-numerous-to-list projects, they installed new granite steps to both the front and back doors, a brick walkway lined with granite pavers, new granite step to the porch, built a small stone wall and stabilized an eroding hillside, rebuilt a bluestone wall, dug up and moved a tree, and of course, built our beautiful driveway. Then when that was done, Charlie took our old fence that the contractor had removed and put it back up. As a parting gift, he made a beautiful granite bench for us so we can sit and admire our new yard. Charlie is so conscientious and professional that we wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. This guy is a gem.
Description of Work: Install driveway, two new sets of steps and walkways, move a small tree, build small stone wall, rebuild a small bluestone wall, replace fencing.

Last year, I responded to an Angie's list ad. He was nice, responded promptly and kept his appointment. I had him come out because I was concerned about the basement flooding in our addition. I wanted ideas and an estimate of what we could do to address it. I hated that he required me to pay $50 just to come out and look. But I agreed. The issue of my concern was not addressed. We walked around the property and he gave me ideas of what to do to landscape my property. (I wanted my $50 worth!!) . He sent an estimate for landscaping work that was much, much too high.I hope that someone has better experience!

When we bought our new home I was concerned about moisture in our basement so one of the first things I did was hire Environmental Contracting Company to drain all of the rain water around our home far from the basement walls. I couldn't be happier with the job that Environmental Contracting Company did. They consistently did an excellent job and did significantly more work under the original bid then I had expected. When we had that huge rain storm last spring, I was one of the few homes in our neighborhood that didn't have a flooded basement, despite the fact that my home is over 120 years old and has a porous old flagstone basement. This is undoubtedly due to their excellent work. I got their name from out neighbor who had used them in the past and was equally satisfied with their work.
Description of Work: Installed underground piping to drain all water from gutters far away from home. Regraded soil around home to drain water away from home. Repaired a brick patio. Cleared all existing drain pipes. Installed a sump pump at the bottom of my driveway.

Overall, the experience was excellent for both projects. Their pricing was competitive with other companies. They were very helpful. The whole point of the first project was to get moisture away from the house, and they had creative ideas and solutions to get this problem fixed. With the fencing, we really liked the view but wanted some protection, so they came up with the idea of the black chain-linked fence. The owner, Charlie, is very easy to work with, from when I first call (he's very responsive), to scheduling the work (he communicated the schedule, provided a time-frame and followed through with that). The quality of the work was excellent; the yard looks really beautiful after the work was completed. The blue-stone walkway made a difference in the design of the front of the home; made the curb appeal much nicer! I'm very happy with their services and I would highly recommend this company to others. When we have future projects, we'll definitely be working with Charlie.
Description of Work: One project (in 2007): Fixed a water drainage issue (re-graded our lawn to redirect the water away from the home), seeded an entire yard with hydroseed. After establishing the lawn, they installed a black chain-linked fence and then installedc about 25 Arborvitae (privacy plantings). Second project: Installed a blue stone walkway.
I was extremely pleased with the quality of their work. The bid was produced quickly and delivered by hand. At the time the owner, Charlie, promised me that he wouldn't leave until all work was completed to my satisfaction. He went further then this. He did several required repairs that we discovered during the course of the work without any additional charges. I would recommend them without reservation.
Description of Work: Quite a bit of work was done around the house, primarily to fix a moisture problem in our basement. PVC pipe was laid underground in 3 areas to carry water from gutters away from house. All existing underground drainage was cleaned. Blue stone path was relaid and leveled. A brick patio was repaired. Work was done around basement windows to redirect water. Miscellaneous other jobs were done as well.
