Used them 10 years ago and were fine. This was a very poor experience. I would have had them remove the products that didn't work as advertised, but i didn't want them in my home again. I would never use them again. Just awful

I had the estimate for the work done which went fine, then called to book the appointment. Was required to put down $200 for the $650 projected repair cost. I did this thinking there would be no issues between then and the repair date. My wife is quite pregnant and we had to move up the repair date to get the nursery ready in time for their birth. (twins) When I called to cancel this appointment and seek a refund of the $200, I was told that the window to cancel was 3 days from the scheduling and that I was forfeit my deposit. This information is in the contract, but I did not catch it at the time. I could only imagine if this were a bigger project and something like this happened to someone else. For the cost of $200 Pioneer Basement has not only lost me as a future customer, but forced my hand in posting several poor reviews such as this one. For any future customers, pay very close attention to this and hope "life" doesn't happen to you in between. Good luck.

Hi [Member Name Removed], First I am sorry that you had to move up the repair. Let me see what we can do, with the rainy season we had in March we are very busy and probably cannot move you up. When you gave the deposit to hold the date, you agreed - we did not offer you a sooner date and moved you further out. You are asking us to move another of our customers who also gave a deposit to move their job further out to accommodate you request. However, I will see what can be done to get you work done sooner. Did you let our representative know about your situation when you scheduled? Either way I will get your job moved up or issue a refund even though we legally are not required. I think that using a bad review to get what you want is not really fair to Pioneer Basement. You commented above that the work was done September 7th however we did not do any work for you.

They advice, and had all our questions answered on sensible and affordable options. Very knowledgeable, prompt, polite, efficient, and thorough team! We are happy with their waterproofing services in our basement (fast sump pump and a grate trench with a discharge line that goes 15 feet to the outside bubbler) as well as crawl space shield installed under our addition. It works well, and Pioneer checked a month later and a year after for inspection and cleaning. A+ work and workers.

When no one showed up I texted the person who was scheduled to be here and received no response. Thirty minutes later I called their office and was told I would get a call back. I heard nothing for an hour and a half and called their office back again and was told the same thing. Then I heard was the person scheduled to be here and he had no knowledge of the appointment and said he was short handed and would try to call me back sometime in the future with no specific time line. I took time off of work for this? Not the way to treat a customer!!!

The guys were great: they assessed the situation and made sure the sump pump was working properly. They also gave me their marketing materials for a more elaborate and efficient sump pump system than the one I have, which I might consider getting. They were friendly and very professional. I now have peace of mind about my sump pump and I am very happy about that. The one little glitch in the whole experience was that they removed the tubing from the basement washer spigot in order to connect their own tubing to flush out the sump pump hose, and then neglected to replace the washer tubing to the spigot. Apparently there was a previously unknown leak at that spigot which caused a 15 x 4 foot flood in the basement which I didn't notice until the next day. I cleaned up the flood and had my plumber to fix the leak. So, all is now well.

Wow! Unbelievable! If we ever have a water problem again, Pioneer will be the only waterproofing company that we call. We were getting some water in our basement which has a stack-stone foundation and radiant floor heating. We interviewed three companies and were particularly concerned about a solution that would stop the water without compromising the radiant tubes that were in the floor. Initially, Pioneer recommended a baseboard system that would run along the outside of the wall. Upon inspection, Mike Oliveira discussed a traditional drain to sump pump solution. We reiterated our concern about puncturing a tube in the floor and Mike assured us that he and his team would hand chisel potential problem areas to avoid the tubing. Moreover, this solution would save us roughly $2K and give us a lifetime guarantee vs. a 25 year guarantee on the baseboard system. The team showed up on time, cleared a 50' span of concrete by Noon, uncovered two sections of radiant tubing without puncturing the line, installed the moisture barrier, sump pump and new concrete by 4 p.m. They had to drill through a hefty header board to connect the pump line to an existing drainage line that carries water away from home and that was completed by 5:30 p.m. Mike came back in a week and we tested the fix using free-flow from our sprinkler system -- it worked perfectly. Subsequently we've had some consistent spring rain and absolutely no water in the basement. The team (including sales, service, billing, installation) was professional, courteous and available when we had questions. They saved us money, fixed our problem and provided a lifetime guarantee. We're both ecstatic and amazed!

Good Parts: Prompt sales and installation. Bad Parts: 1. Pioneer did not install a check valve in the discharge line, which was required according to the manufacturer's installation instruction. The water back-flow filled the sump, causing the the pump to run continuously. I added the check valve myself. 2. The pump discharge pipe was attached directly to the floor joist without any isolation. The discharging water sound was amplified throughout the house. So loud that we could not sleep. I added isolation to the pipe. 3. The wiring and electrical cords were never finished off, which could have been easily disconnected or become a trip hazard. I ty-rapped the wiring and cables myself. 4. The dehumidifier (mfg Santa Fe) failed in the first year. Pioneer wanted to charge over $100.00 to look at the unit. I contacted the manufacturer directly, who replaced the unit at no charge. 5. The sump pump (mfg: Blue Angel Pumps) level switch failed. I contacted the manufacturer who replaced the level switch of another style at no cost. I had to adapt and install the level switch myself. 6. The sump pump installation instructions requires a GFI receptacle, which I did not have at the time of installation. Pioneer did not install one or inform me of this requirement. I had the GFI receptacle installed. Comment: The high failure rate of the equipment installed (two dehumidifiers and the sump pump level switch) along with the substandard workmanship rate Pioneer a pass. Both of the equipment manufacturers were terrific, promptly replacing their defective equipment without charging me.

Thank You for your feedback. I am sorry you have experienced some problems. We installed the job in 2009 and have not been back since. It looks like we have tried to contact you many times by phone and postcard but have not heard back from you. You did call about the dehumidifier in 2012 but then cancelled a service appointment we had with you. I would love to help you but I need to be able to get a hold of your first. Please call my office at 1-800-649-6140 and ask for Mike Oliveira. I would be glad to address your concerns and see if I can help you. Look forward to hearing from you.

The project went great, from the first phone call to the end of the job. We were called a day before to confirm the arrival time, and the work crew arrived on schedule. It turned out they had some additional material from a previous job that day, so they actually repaired a bit more of the wall than had been agreed on, which we really appreciated. When we originally scheduled the job, we were given information on other services that Pioneer Basement provides, but at no time were we given any sales pitches. We're very confident that we picked the right firm to do our foundation repairs -- we'll definitely call them first for any similar work, and will recommend them to friends.

The biggest disappointment was the "Big Deal" for them that I actually bought from Angie's list. After calling the contractor and then Angie's List to understand what I was buying - Both parties were wrong. The representative that was at my house told me it could not be used on the current quote and had to be used on something in their "store". There was nothing I needed from the "store." In addition, they were THE highest bidder, out of 7.

Thank you for your feedback! The $49.00 Angie's list big deal you purchased was for a foundation inspection and preventative water leakage plan. With that big deal you also get a credit of $250.00 off any proposed work. That is why my project manager explained you would need to purchase something in order to get that credit. He did not mean you have to go to our online store to get that credit. When our project manager came out he performed a foundation inspection. He also provided you with two quotes. One was for a partial system in one area of the basement. Any partial system install comes with a life of house warranty on the areas that are treated. It does not warranty the entire basement. The second quote was for a full perimeter system with full wall vapor barrier and a sump pump system. That quote comes with a life of house warranty on the entire basement because the entire basement is being treated. I apologize for the confusion on the Angie's List Big Deal. We try to write the description on these big deals as clear as possible so the homeowner knows exactly what they are purchasing. I am actually surprised by this review. When my representative Tonya called to follow up you stated you were happy with our Project Manager that came out. You also said that you had two quotes and was waiting on a third quote but you were happy with what we proposed you. I'm not sure what happened in between that timeframe. If there is anything we can do to help you feel free to contact us. I can send one of the owners of Pioneer out to your home and see if we can help you further. Thank you and have a great day !
The company is a big corporation. They had a scheduler call me and then assigned me to a sales rep. The rep was punctual, inspected my basement and exterior of my home to come up w a plan to stop leakage. He tried to sell me a french drain system which cost over $10k and a dehumidifier which was something around $1500. I didn't go with it because i decided to shop around and found a better price. They're basically another big company so if you're trying t save $, I'd suggest finding an indy. Way to expensive.

Pioneer Basement has been around since 1984 and is family and employee owned - we have 45 employees to service the Eastern half of MA and all of RI - Steve Andras and his son Micah along with other Pioneer Basement employees developed a patented drainage system called Grate Drain. This is the history of Pioneer Basement just so you know we are NOT a big corporation. The fact is we have over 50,000 customers and run a service department to maintain all these systems and provide warranty service if needed. Pioneer Basement is built of many families i.e. Father and son in service dept. father and daughter working in warehouse and office, mother and daughter in laws in the office. We have 3-4 husbands & wives working for Pioneer- this is a close family business with better service than you could ever get from a BIG corporation . We truly want the right thing for our customers and not just sell them a job for cheap dollars and no service after the job. As always most of us know you get what you pay for. Low price might not be the right thing. Sorry we were not a match.
