Basement Waterproofing
$400
Spent over $2,000.00 for a dehumidifer. It stopped working after several years so I called Pioneer basement and they brought out a loaner while they said they would send my unit back to the factory for repair. I was told I had to pay shipping both ways and labor for the repair but part was covered under the warrenty. The loaner did not work and very expensive instruments were subject to humidity and although nothing was completely ruined it was a mess to maintain. Pioneer basement said they would bring out another loaner. The warrenty is worthless as it coast over $400.00 for this reapair and took over 5 months to get my unit back as Pioneer basement does not have the capability to repair it in house. The unit was also installed wrong and now I have holes in the wall and that had to be corrected so now I have fake duct plates to hide the holes. I lost faith in this company and will not do business again. I also wrote the manufacturor and complained and there was no return call or letter.Worthless warrenty very disaponted!returned to factory for repair
Response from Pioneer Basement
"I am sorry that our customer had this all happen to them. I wanted to share a little more information so that customer understands our side of the story. Pioneer Basement's representative visited the home in 2006 and recommended a full crawl space encapsulation because there was an extreme humidity problem. We recommedned this because just putting a Santa Fe dehumidifier only would not fully solve the customer problem. The member's decided to just have the Santa Fe and sump pump installed. While this was better than doing nothing it did cause the unit to work more than it needed to. Even so the unit was fine for almost 5 years with absolutely no problems. Santa Fe Classic was Installed on 9/26/06 warranty expires 9/26/2011. Customer called in on 8/11/11 stating unit was not working properly. She was told if it was a compressor or a leak it normally runs about 350.00-400.00 for labor & shipping. We explained that she still has a part warranty but not a labor or shipping warranty. Pioneer Basement did explain that the repair needed to be done by the manufacturer since it was more than what Pioneer could legally do at our location. (Compressor must be serviced by a licensed HVAC technician.) One of the reasons we provide our customers with a free loaner is because we want them protected while their unit is being shipped & repaired. In this case Pioneer Basement made 2 trips to the home (at no charge) to install our loaners and pick up their unit. On 1/18/12 we called to schedule the unit to get put back in and the bill was $454.36. When the member's complained about the cost, Pioneer Basement credited the Amaral's account $125.00 which was our fee for the labor that was not covered by the warranty. The warranty on the Santa Fe is 1 year parts and labor and 5 years on parts only. (Compressor and Condenser) The manufacturer did cover the parts and only charged for shipping and labor. Pioneer Basement did not make $1.00 on this whole service issue and we went out of our way to help our customer. We at Pioneer Basement cannot be responsible for the time it took for the manufacturer to repair the unit, and we did provide a loaner unit. I would like to propose an offer to the members our Angie's List customer - Pioneer Basement while NOT our responsibility (legally or morally) to do so - will provide a full credit of $450.00 toward the crawl space encapsulation job we recommended back in 2006. It is our sincere desire to help people with their basement or crawl space problems - It was not our intention to cause any problem for our customer."

I requested that, they put the humidifier and tried to water proof the basement; they are the best in the area.

They didn't seem to do so much, and still charged us a lot. Everything went well, but it was a lot for just a maintenance checkup without any substantial repair work. It was on time, and the workers that came out were nice.

I think the price they charged us when they installed the pump was pretty reasonable.

Please see above comments.  I have not yet had the work performed on the basement.  Pioneer (Fabio) has offered to re-evaluate the basement if the solutions I have chosen do not work out.

A general comment - the more contractors you talk to, the more information you can acquire that will help you evaluate the correcgt contractor to select and the right questions to ask.

Pioneer is very professional and was a pleasure to work with.  They were always on time, friendly and answered all of our questions.  It was easy to schedule the work and they stuck to their schedule.  They did the work for a reasonable cost and the quality was great!  They completed the job as they said they would and cleaned up after themselves.  Our basement looks great!  They also take credit cards, which is a great offering. I would absolutely recommend Pioneer!

I was informed by a representative of Rescon (another Angie's List provider) that Pioneer Basements had relocated to the south coast of Massachusetts and that they had turned over all of their north shore business to Rescon. The representative stated that all of the technologies and equipment used by Pioneer could be provided by Rescon.

We found water in the finished and unfinished part of the basement, and part of the carpet in the finished basement room was wet. We suspected it was a foundation leak and asked another company who quickly provided a quote to install sump pump. However, after Nick (project manager from Pioneer) came by, he inspected closely on the damage, and did not think it was caused by foundation leak. He took the time and found the real cause of the damage, which is a pipe leak from the A/C unit!!! I am glad I asked Pioneer to come to provide an estimate, and did not go ahead and fix a problem that did not even exist!!!

I am so impressed with the honesty of Nick, which I believe is a good reflection of the company's integrity, especially comparing to the other company I used for estimate. I will be writing a review on the other company to reflect the fact on what happened. Thanks, Pioneer!! I will definitely ask for you again for any future basement projects.

Response from Pioneer Basement
"Pioneer Basement chooses not to "sell" our services in the manner most other companies in our industry do. We do not feel it is right to tie up a client with 1-2 hours of their time and ours if we feel the client is not a match. I am concerned that this members rating (D) overall was posted in retaliation because our Project Manager determined that Pioneer was not a match. We would not want to spend 2 hours trying to sell someone as our process is one of self selection - where we allow our customer to buy what they want. We realized that some customers view this as rushed (20 minutes providing a "free estimate" is a reasonable time for our Project Manager to determine if we can do the project or if the customer is someone we want to work for) I would hope that other members look at this negative rating in the light of all our other reports."

Pat arrived on time and investigated the basement thoroughly.  He found no moisture issues, but did find some mold that may be contributing to the odor,  He also left a brochure and estimate for a dehumidification system, but there was no hard sell.  There was nothing to proceed with at that point, but if I ever need to have our basement waterproofed, Pioneer will be the first place I call.
Response from Pioneer Basement
"At Pioneer Basement our brand is choice and control. We want our customers to buy what they want and when they want it. We believe our customers should be in full control of the sales process and also in control of how they want to pay for their job. Thanks for taking the time to file a report."

I have them come out every now and again to make sure everything is functioning correctly.  They are pretty satisfactory.  I’ve had the same pump for about ten years and it hasn’t failed yet so they must be doing a good job with keeping it working well.

My electricity in my house went out and the back up battery for sum pump wasn't working. I had called them with my emergency and they were not able to get out to see me. After I called the fire department, they showed up and their service man did not have the correct switch. They did come back to give me the right switch later on. I have had to talk to office personal to tell them my thoughts about their business. I expressed my concerns about them coming out to me quickly and how I wanted to make sure they were committed to work they were doing for me. After this conversation they have been very attentive and do everything that I ask them to do.

Overall the job was done very well. The owner was very personable and informative. My only complaint is that they should have put the pipping, for the drains, further away from the house; which would make it difficult to clean the drains.

Subsequently, they came back and added to the length of the pcv drain pipe.  It now drains about another 25 feet or so into the bushes at the edge of my yard out-of-site.  As a result I have to give them an A.

It was very expensive, but they were excellent. With all this rain we had a dry basement. It was wonderful. Their support and everything has been great. Last year, even though we had sump pumps, we had ankle deep water for the spring. This year with all that snow we didn't have any water in our basement. It was nice and dry. I just called the 800 number, so I am not sure where they are located. It was quite the expense, but we have a dry basement as a result. It was expensive, but it works. We put it off for some time because of the price, but in the end we opted for the dry basement. We priced with some other companies and for the work we had done, it was the going rate. The work we had done wasn't cheap. For us personally, it was extremely expensive. As far as what other companies doing similar work were charging, I think it was pretty similar. We got a 10 percent discount which was similar to the Angie's List discount too. We got the discount by waiting and by not having it done when everybody was getting it done.

Pioneer Basement is a little expensive, but you get what you pay for. They guarantee their work. They assess the job well. I have a french drain going into the sump pump hole, which was not big enough or very deep. They had to dig the hole deeper. They have a very professional plastic insert they use that is patented by them. They also have me a battery back-up along with the main pump. I really rely on my sump pump so it is important that it is a reliable pump that is worry-free. They provided everything I needed and it only took them 4 hours with 3 workers. They did a great job. For a few extra bucks I got real professionals. They explained it well in the estimate. I would recommend at least getting an estimate from Pioneer Basements. They did the job and did it well.

On aug 23 2010 we contacted pioneer basement about water proofing our basement. The agent was very knowable . He gave an estimate witch was a fair price.. The only problem was we had to wait until nov 12 to get the work done .. that?s how busy they are . On the morning of the 12th the work crew showed up and also the agent. The work crew was knew ther job . They started right away and never stopped working until lunch time and quitting time . It was to be a one day job but it took an extra half day to finish we are very satisfied with the work that was done and they left the basement cleaner then when they started the job
