I was finishing the painting of my daughter's room and was nearly finished but with Thanksgiving holiday approaching, guests coming to stay, I needed to finish and knew Tracey was as good at painting as he is at finish carpentry. He arrived on a Friday morning and got to work. He works tirelessly and knows how to paint, how paint will respond to various surfaces, what brush and roller techniques to use, and is incredibly steady with his hand which eliminates the need for taping off adjoining surfaces. Tracey's amazingly steady hand means the painting is completed faster than if he had to tape first, then paint, then remove the tape. He has drop cloths, is great at cleaning up after his work is done and is incredibly fair on price. This is the second project in which he has done just painting and he is the only person we will consider when the painting project is beyond what I can handle or have the time to complete. If not for Tracey's work finishing the painting of my daughter's room that Friday before the Thanksgiving holiday we would not have had our house ready for guests the following week.
Description of Work: Finished painting of my daughter's bedroom. I had already applied new paint on the ceiling and all four walls with one wall having an accent color.

Tracey worked on my parent's house after I discovered that carpenter ants had infested and devoured much of the wood on the outside of a short wall that held angled windows forming a solarium on the southern side of their house. The 2x4 studs had been compromised by years of hidden carpenter ant activity. He advised my parents to hire an exterminator before he proceeded with the rebuild which he initially estimated at $5,000. The exterminator applied the appropriate pesticide. Tracey was busy with other projects but finally on October 11th he was able to start working on my parent's house. That was the very day my parents were heading off for nearly two months of travel overseas, allowing him to work uninterrupted but also unsupervised but I had assured my parents that he could be trusted with their house. My family and I were also travelling for the next three weeks and wouldn't be around to check up on Tracey's work, he was truly on his own. His original estimate was $5,000 but on the day we were all headed to the airport he called me and wanted to let my parents know that after he was able to open the wall and look at the scope of the damage he determined it wasn't as bad as he initially suspected and revised his estimate DOWNWARD to just $2,500. I knew Tracey to be honest but this solidified what a decent and honest man he is. In the moments after that phone call I wondered about how many contractors we had hired before him that would have been that honest knowing that my parent's would be gone for eight weeks and would never know if the work required was only half of what had been anticipated and yet would have still asked for the original $5,000 upon completion. I returned from my trip weeks before my parents and was eager to see the work Tracey had done. Upon entering my parent's house I immediately went to the area where the repair had been done. The first thing I noticed was a series of new interior clapboards he had installed to replace the damaged pieces, while the work looked great I noticed a large gap where the boards reached a perpendicular wall. The gap stood out as a huge mistake, I couldn't believe it and yet I knew Tracey's skills and experience were too good to make that type of mistake. I looked up and noticed that he had chosen to match the new clapboards to the original clapboards above, it seems the original installer had years earlier left a gap and Tracey had chosen to follow that to maintain a uniform look. This was yet another testament to the quality of work Tracey Davis is capable of. I was even more impressed.
Description of Work: Rebuilt exterior wall due to carpenter ant infestation and damage.

After a flood damaged carpet on our upstairs and stairway, the carpet was removed and revealed that the stairs, from top to bottom, were too damaged from nails and staples after having been carpeted extensively with all wood surfaces covered by previous home owner. We decided to tear down and remove old stairs and Tracey Davis was referred to us by a flooring company. After helping us to decide on the look of the new stairs including different newel posts, balusters, and handrails, Tracey began demolition of the old stairs and the process of building the new stairs. After each full day Tracey would spend time cleaning up and hiding all his tools and materials because he didn't like leaving a mess, that was the first thing that impressed us; his strong work ethic. As the new stairs began to take shape it was immediately apparent that Tracey is a very skilled carpenter with ample experience to create a custom stair case that fit our home beautifully. Each day was exciting just to see the new pieces he had crafted and installed. The project took twice as long as expected to the wrong balusters being shipped. Upon arrival of the replacement balusters, Tracey worked Saturdays and Sundays to get the job done as quickly as possible. A testament to Tracey's honesty as a craftsman was found in moments when he would point out something he didn't like about a piece he had installed and he intended to replace or rework till it met his high standards. If he hadn't pointed out the "flaws" that his trained eye noticed, I would never have noticed and I consider myself a perfectionist. Upon completion of the stairs we decided to hire Tracey to also paint and polyurethane the new stairs as well as the surrounding upstairs hallway and downstairs landing. Most craftsman seem to excel at one discipline but to my amazement Tracey was as gifted at painting as he was at carpentry. With an amazingly steady hand I watched him paint without using painter's tape or any type of masking device and the results were superior to that of a painter we hired two years earlier for a room remodel. Tracey's forte in carpentry is visible everyday in our new staircase that gets high praise from all who have seen it. We have hired Tracey for other projects and referred him to family and friends who have also had very positive things to say about him and his work.
Description of Work: Staircase was rebuilt from top to bottom with new treads, risers, balusters, newel posts, and handrails.
